Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals 6th loss in a row. This time to the Ottawa Senators. Another game of the Caps over passing and thinking about thing too much when they should just be crashing the net. Max Pacioretty and Aliaksei Protas found the back of the net for the Capitals. There was a special ceremony for John Carlson's 1000th game. With appearances from Braden Holtby, Karl Alzner, Nick Backstrom and TJ Oshie. The Capitals don't have many games left in the regular season and the margin for error is razor fine for their playoff hopes.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Factor MealsGet started on your resolutions with Factor, so you're ready for the new year. On this episode we were joined by Braden Holtby, a Vezina & Jennings Trophy winner, 5-time NHL All-Star, and a Stanley Cup Champion with the Capitals in 2018. As always, we were lucky enough to ask Holts for the best advice that he ever received for his hockey game, his financial pursuits, and for life in general. Holts grew up in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, but he and his family have found their way back to the city they called home for the first 10 years of his career. Washington is very lucky to have him, as he is one of the most thoughtful people you could meet.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan is joined once again by Brandon and Dan from the What the Puck Podcast. In this episode they talk about the goalies on the Capitals and if Hunter Shepard would be a better option over Charlie Lindgren. They then look back and talk about Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer and did the Capitals make the right decision by choosin Holtby over Grubauer considering that Grubauer is still playing and playing in top form. They then talks about the blue line and Brian Maclellan's comments about wanting to address the blue line. What changes can be made consider most of the Caps blue line is under contract. Later they talks about big names that could help the Caps score more goals, most notably William Nylander. NHL Free Agency is upon us and the question on everyone's mind is will Johnny Gaudreau resign with the Calgary Flames or will he become a Philadelphia Flyer? Tonight, we look into what the future holds for the All Star Left Wing. What happens if the Flyers are unable to secure Gaudreau? Would they possibly look at another Flame in Matthew Tkachuk, who Calgary is also looking to ink to a long-term contract? Or will the Flyers turn their attention towards their Keystone State rivals and steal Evgeni Malkin from the Pittsburgh Penguins? It's become clear, if the Pens are going to bring Malkin back, it will be on their terms, not his. The club prioritized re-signing Kris Letang and got that done by signing the defenseman to a six-year, $36.6 million contract ($6.1 million AAV). Also on the show, we'll predict if Patrice Bergeron will take one last ride with the Boston Bruins or call it a career. Will David Krejci return to both the NHL and Bruins? Also, with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres all in the market for a No. 1 goalie, where will UFA netminders Darcy Kuemper (fresh off a Stanley Cup win), Jack Campbell, Braden Holtby, Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss and Martin Jones land? Matt Murray, was on the table but late Monday evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs picked him up along with a 2023 3rd round draft pick & a 7th round pick in 2024 for future considerations. The New York Rangers now need a backup to Vezina-winning goalie Igor Shesterkin after trading Alexandar Georgiev to the Colorado Avalanche. But a more pressing issue will be signing a second-line center with both Ryan Strome and Andrew Copp becoming unrestricted free agents. The Stanley Cup champs have a busy offseason in store with many FAs, and Nazem Kadri tops the list. Ondrej Palat could be one of the steals of this free-agent class if the Tampa Bay Lightning can't sign the forward. And John Klingberg could be on the move, as well! Will old friend Claude Giroux move back home and sign with the Ottawa Senators now that they have acquired Alex DeBrincat? Answers to these questions and more plus a review of the 2022 NHL Draft, and don't forget the Shootout, where the boys hit on rapid-fire topics to close us out!

Braden Holtby, coming off an injury shortened, yet phenomenal year is trying to prove he still has what it takes. Martin Jones, while not great, could fill a temporary short-term role. And Scott Wedgewood and Eric Comrie are young guys who may have finally found their groove. Do any of these guys hit the mark for Detroit's needs? #lgrwSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. We all know changes need to be made. But what changes? I think it's time to work in some of the younger AHL players into this lineup. Is it Zach Fucale's time to shine? Eight teams in the East with 100 points? Tom Wilson montage, Flyers in tonight, and 10 years ago tonight started the road to playoff success for Braden Holtby.
Recorded March 27, 2022 In our final week's episode of Women's History Month Anna and I welcome popular Twitter Caps fan Fatou Bah of the Black Girl Hockey Club. Fatouh give her opinions on the Caps play this past week, which was literally down and up. Topics discussed include....yes goaltending again but also the trade deadline as well as Braden Holtby's homecoming as well as Nick Backstrom's apples. This being the last week of the month I share a bit of trivia having to do with women in hockey. (Yes I know it was Elizabeth Graham, not Gardiner that made the history). Thanks to all, ladies and gentlemen for indulging us for this month. #ALLCAPS #Blackgirlhockeyclub #womenbelonginsports #SportsOTHP #IsobelCup2022 #powerplaypointpodcast
It's trade deadline day, Braden Holtby returns to a standing ovation, and John Carlson injured late against Dallas.
JD, Blake and Justin bring on DailyFaceoff.com's Frank Seravalli to take a tour around the NHL and look at the various players available that the Leafs might be interested in. Marc-Andre Fleury, Braden Holtby, Mark Giordano, and Jakob Chychrun are all names discussed with Frank, and how Toronto's goaltending issues need to be a priority at the deadline (1:07). Later, Friday's Wake and Rake cashes in a big way and the trio builds out Monday's bets (29:12).The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

On today's show, Dane rejoices over the fact that the Dallas Stars won every game on their four game road trip. The Star's most recent victim was the New Jersey Devils. Joe Pavelski scored a goal in the game's first fourteen seconds and he and the Stars never looked back. They dominated the Devils from the get-go. Braden Holtby had a great night with partial credit to the Stars defense.Follow Dane on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Dane__LewisFollow the show on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LockedOnStarsSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetOnline AGThere is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust. On today's show, Dane attempts to make sense of the craziest NHL game of the season. The Dallas Stars stole a 65- shootout thriller from the jaws of the Florida Panthers. Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn looked like the leaders many expect them to be. Denis Gurianov also appears to be the perfect fit on the second line with Seggy and the Captain. Braden Holtby deserves a lot more credit than he'll likely get for this win. On today's show, Dane Travels into hot take country. Many teams in the National Hockey League boast one great goalie. The rangers have Shesterkin, Toronto has Campbell, Tampa has Vasilevsky. But do any of those teams have a legit argument for best goalie tandem? Dallas has two guys who have put up quality numbers with over 10 starts each. Does Dallas have the best one-two punch between the pipes? Also get caught up on Stars prospect Wyatt Johnston who just won the OHL's player of the mont award for December. On today's show, Dane talks about three members of the Dallas Stars who lead the team to their 5th straight win while reaching some impressive milestones. Roope Hintz recorded his first hat trick of his career. Could he find himself in the Hart Trophy conversation if he stays hot? Braden Holtby played his 500th career game and played his best game of the season up to this point. Rick Bowness also reached greatness by coaching his 2,500th career NHL game. He deserves a lot of credit for rallying this team and setting them up for success on this win streak.Follow Dane on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Dane__LewisFollow the show on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LockedOnStarsSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetOnline AGThere is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust. Aaron Colton on the Red Bull Show Run in Dallas, no handed wheelies & building bikes; Braden Holtby on the Stars season outlook & his Stanley Cup experience; Jean-Jacques Taylor on Micah Parsons & Trevon Diggs bursting onto the scene and why he thinks the Cowboys are off to such a successful start.
Episode 135 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a lengthy interview with Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko. In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, may be our most in-depth yet, as Demko digs into the specific technical changes he has made over the past three seasons since he began working with Canucks goaltending coach Ian Clark. He also talks about why he went to bat so hard and so publicly for a Clark contract extension, his evolving mindset, and the role it played in his 2020 playoff bubble breakthrough, important lessons from Jacob Markstrom two seasons ago and Braden Holtby last season, and how he's prepared for what is to come: His first full season as a No. 1, playing in front of fans again, the Canucks radical makeover and push for the playoffs, and hopefully a spot on Team USA for the 2022 Olympics. All that, plus a trip back to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a breakdown at the new, incredibly light True Catalyst AX9 (and second price point AX5) sticks.
On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian cap off our four-part Offseason Action series with their analysis of the fantasy implications of player movement coming via the draft, trade and free agent market in the Central Division. We kick off with the most costly acquisition this offseason (in both trade assets and contract!) who'll look to make an impact in Chicago, and work our way through the rest of the division in order from busiest to quietest during the last few weeks. Is Chicago just the most perfect landing spot for Seth Jones? Can Pavel Buchnevich hit 70 points in a new system and with a new centreman? Is Darcy Kuemper in Colorado now worth reaching for in your draft? How do Arizona's goalies stack up next to other historically terrifying NHL tandems? Who could get a leg up in the crowded Dallas crease? Does David Rittich threaten to take starts from Juuse Saros in Nashville? Will Connor Hellebuyck benefit from Winnipeg shoring up their D corps? Players covered on this episode include Seth Jones, Tyler Johnson, Marc-Andre Fleury, Kevin Lankinen, Torey Krug, Pavel Buchnevich, Brandon Saad, Darcy Kuemper, Pavel Francouz, Alex Newhook, Bowen Byram, Shayne Gostisbehere, Ryan Dzingel, Carter Hutton, Josef Korenar, Ryan Suter, Braden Holtby, Jake Oettinger, Anton Khudobin, Ben Bishop, Alex Goligoski, Mikael Granlund, David Rittich, Nate Schmidt, Connor Hellebuyck and more. Big show lined up with so much happening in the NHL, NBA and MLB. The Welcome Matt draws comparisons between the moves the Canucks have made this offseason to those that their division rivals to the North the Edmonton Oilers. Kevin Woodley from In-Goal magazine joins next and gives his thoughts on the Canucks signing Jaroslav Halak, why he feels that next season is going to be more taxing on goaltenders, why he doesn’t think that Halak would be interested in being involved in a backup tandem with Mikey DiPietro, what held up any trade that involved Braden Holtby, and tells us why the Darcy Keumper acquisition by the Avs is risky business. Thomas Drance follows Hashtags - the best and worst of Twitter, and explains why he feels that Conor Garland is an incredible pickup for the Canucks, why he didn’t like the price the Canucks paid for bottom-pairing defenceman Tucker Poolman, and why he thinks the Pacific division is up for grabs next season. The Price is Right suggests that the Canucks have a real shot at having six 20-goal scorers on its newly revamped lineup this season. Jeff Paterson joins for his daily hit and tells us why Poolson needs to wear Loui Eriksson’s old number 21, why he thinks that Tyler Motte could be used up the lineup, and wonders what the future is for Olli Juolevi with the Canucks. The boys debate on Take 5 whether or not the Canucks will be a playoff team next year. The show wraps with all the Errors & Omissions. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Back for a big week of shows after a very entertaining weekend in the NHL. The Welcome Matt looks at the Oliver Ekman-Larsson acquisition by the Canucks, and how Sekeres feels that OEL will have a bounce back season joining an energized Vancouver market. Canucks sixth round draft pick Connor Lockhart follows and tells us that he’s not concerned about where he got drafted, feels that he is taking the steps to improve his game on and off the ice, and why he feels that despite his small stature, he’s confident he can bring his game to the NHL level. Our Monday NHL insider John Shannon follows Hashtags - the best and worst of Twitter, and gives his insight on what was a crapshoot of an NHL draft, tells us how much he likes Conor Garland, why he thinks that Gary Bettman doesn’t care that the Arizona Coyotes are a dumping ground for bad contracts, and why he thinks that Braden Holtby will get bought out by the Canucks. The Price is Right looks at the tone deafness of the Montreal Canadiens drafting Logan Mailloux, the Chicago Blackhawks trotting out a group of women at the draft to shield themselves from the sexual allegations the organization is currently dealing with, and the ridiculousness of Jake Virtanen’s agent calling out the Vancouver media for being too negative. Jeff Paterson joins for his daily hit and tells us what went wrong with Jake Virtanen in Vancouver, where the Canucks are at with the Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes extensions, why he thinks that Nate Schmidt would be a good fit in Minnesota, and what happened with the Jay Beagle neck injury. We play Memo To on a Monday. Wrap up the show with all the Errors & Omissions. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It’s NHL Entry Draft day and we got you covered! The Welcome Matt dives into the merry-go-round of the Canucks front office decisions, after Jim Benning made a trade to bring in Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland from Arizona. Our Friday Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal follows and gives updates on Nate Schmidt, Braden Holtby, Brandon Sutter and Jayce Hawryluk, unpacks the big trade with the Coyotes, wonders how Jim Benning is going to juggle all the contracts moving forward, and gives an update on the negotiations between the Canucks and Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes’ new deals. Jeff Paterson and Cam Robinson join in-studio for the remainder of the show breaking down the first round of the draft. The show wraps as it always does with all the Errors & Omissions. It is expansion draft day with little to no surprises. The Welcome Matt looks at how the news of the day was leaked, as hours before what was supposed to be the big reveal the Kraken’s expansion list was leaked by the likes of Frank Seravalli and others. Kevin Woodley from In-Goal Magazine follows and tells us how he thought that Carey Price was going to get picked by the Kraken, explains why he thinks it was a bad move that the Kraken didn’t select Price, wonders if there is something behind the Kraken not taking Kaapo Kähkönen from the Wild, why he doesn’t think there is a big market for Braden Holtby, and tells us why he thinks that Mikey DiPietro being in Abbotsford will help the Canucks with its backup goalie hole. Jeff Paterson joins at an earlier time and gives his thoughts on the leaked list of players that came out of Seattle, why he thinks the Kraken’s goaltending picks are underwhelming, the importance of the Canucks keeping the 9th overall pick at the draft, and why Jim Benning can’t sit back and wait while now 31 teams compete to make their rosters better. The Price is Right looks at expansion in the big four leagues, suggesting that they’re tapped out for new franchises. Craig Button joins next and tells us how he likes the Kraken’s signings of Adam Larsson and Jamie Oleksiak are great moves, why he thinks that taking Mark Giordano is an asset accumulation move for the Kraken, why he isn’t surprised that Price wasn’t taken by Seattle, and gives his insight on who he thinks will be available for the Canucks at the draft with the 9th overall pick and in the second round. Blake looks to sizzle on Hot Take. We cap off the shows with all the Errors & Omissions. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
