Bobby and Alex discuss the long-anticipated MLB-MLBPA CBA proposals —including the Players Association's "competitive integrity tax," and the owners' hard cap and floor proposal. They debate the merits of a cap in a world where owners have a long, storied history of lying about their finances, and dig below the surface into their desperate attempt at juicing franchise values to further extract value out of a game that they put very little into. Then, they are joined by friend of the show Bradford William Davis to pivot to a conversation about MLB's inconsistently enforced domestic violence policies, opaque investigations, and mixed messaging. This episode features discussion of domestic violence. Heath Pearce and Mark McKenzie welcome Rand Getlin, executive producer and director of the five-part HBO Max docuseries "US Against the World," which follows the U.S. Men's National Team from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar through the road to the 2026 World Cup on home soil. Rand breaks down how a chance meeting with Tyler Adams in 2019 sparked a four-year filmmaking journey, how the production earned unprecedented locker room access, and why one camera operator (Luke Korver) shot nearly 90% of the footage across 300 production days and 600 hours of material. Before the interview, Mark tells one of the wildest travel stories in podcast history -- ultras storming the pitch during Toulouse's final match at relegated Nantes, the team plane never showing up from Italy, backup flights getting canceled, and a five-and-a-half-hour Tesla taxi ride with four charging stops just to make a morning flight to Philadelphia with his wife and seven-month-old son. The conversation goes deep on the vulnerability captured in the series, from Tyler Adams opening up about family struggles to Tim Weah's Copa America red card against Panama and how the filmmakers made sure those difficult moments were properly contextualized. Rand discusses Greg Berhalter's openness and work ethic, the unique structure of having both the Players Association and U.S. Soccer as partners, and why the team had full creative autonomy with zero editorial control from the federation. Mark shares what it was like navigating the emotional swings of being in and out of the starting lineup while cameras rolled, and how he channeled that energy into being a connector across the locker room -- from speaking Dutch with Sergino Dest to mentoring younger players like Malik Tillman. The ANZ Premiership is reaching the halfway point and some selections in the match between the Northern Stars and the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic raised some eyebrows. Casey Kopua and Leana de Bruin were both featured in the match - both former Silver Ferns and both stars of the game, however, they are 40 and 48 years old respectively. This raises questions around why we aren't bringing through fresh young talent into the ANZ Premiership - and who will grow to be the next stars of Netball for New Zealand. Hopes a tough few months at Netball New Zealand can begin to be consigned to the past as the 2026 ANZ Premiership gets underway in Wellington this afternoon. Netball Players Association GM Pippa Moore told Piney it's been a tough time for the players, as they don't know what will happen next year, and that uncertainty is unsettling. “I think the players are in a pretty difficult position ... they've had to take a cut, but they're optimistic.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A T20 cricketing revolution is officially underway in New Zealand. The governing body is backing the proposed NZ20 privatised franchise league as a preferred option for the domestic game next season, which already has major association and players' association support. NZC say the decision is in principle only. Players Association CEO Heath Mills told Mike Hosking the level of interest in the competition and potential teams has been encouraging. He says New Zealand is institutionalised to believe we're too small or don't have enough money for a league, but other, smaller economies such as the West Indies have had incredibly successful leagues. I could not and wouldn't be here without you.  But as I sought this journey, and I don't want to sound morbid or anything like that, I want to tell you something, this is an intentional journey.  I am No. 287 and because my name is the last name Williams, I am the last one in my induction class, but I also want to say thank you to the 32 owners, Roger Goodell, DeMaurice Smith of the Players Association, and here's why, because tough decisions have to be made that are unpopular, but the success and promotion and enjoyment of this game with the fans is because of the important decisions that are made that allow us to be here and celebrate with you the fans and all of these great Hall of Famers that I get an opportunity to sit up here with.    I've got two statements, if you don't remember anything I say.  Two statements if you don't remember anything else I say.  Begin with the end in mind and die empty.  Begin with the end in mind and die empty.  So let me tell you about this journey.  It all starts at home.  And I wouldn't be and could not be without the foundation.  See I've heard a lot of speeches, I've listened to them, believe me.  But I want to tell you it starts with Lawrence and Lillian Williams in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Mom and Dad, I need you all to stand up.  Dad is up here as a presenter, my mother is seated there.  Now these Hall of Famers and all, they've all been voting on who is going to cry.    Now you know that two of the guys, my first two haven't cried.  Now I'm going to cry.  I'll be you up front, I'll give you notice.  I think it was General Schwarzkopf, in an interview with Barbara Walters, and Barbara Walters said, “a big general like you, are you going to cry?  General Schwarzkopf said I'm afraid of a man that won't cry.”    To the dais with the induction, being in an induction class with the first punter.  I've been seeing all these guys that lift their legs for a living around Canton, Ray Guy.  Also to be in an induction class with three from the Historical Black Colleges.  Michael Strahan, Texas Southern, Claude Humphrey, Tennessee State, and that's right, yours truly, the Southern University.  Now let me begin to give thanks where thanks is due.  I never had to look outside my home for role models.  My two older brothers, Malcolm Williams, Achilles Williams, stand to your feet, brothers.  Malcolm's debonair president of his high school class was about The Fellowship of Christian Athletes' exciting local radio program, Heart of the Athlete, airs Saturdays at 9:30 am MST on 94.5 FM and 790 AM Boise's Solid Talk. 0:00 .... Ross hello, welcome, and introduces the crew of Bruce Bernstein and Michael "World B" Freer."  Show number 170 is dedicated to Devin Booker, who scored a career high 70 points in a loss to the Celtics back in March of 2017. 1:07 ... The NBA released the full schedule for the upcoming season and each member of the show picked three games they have "circled" on the schedule.  Bruce leads us off with an opening night matchup between the Thunder and Rockets and the return of the NBA on NBC on October 21st. 2:25 ... World B chooses Warriors/Lakers on opening night, also on NBC. 3:36 ... Ross chooses Bucks/Pacers and Myles Turner's return to Indiana as a member of the Bucks. 4:20 ... Bruce is intrigued by the first meeting between the Magic and Knicks on November 12th. 5:09 ... World B looks forward to Spurs/Mavericks on October 22nd in a matchup with Cooper Flagg and Victor Wembanyama. 6:28 ... Ross looks forward to Kevin Durant's return to Phoenix on November 24th. 7:37 ... Bruce is excited about the first matchup between the Pacers and Celtics on December 22nd. 8:39 ... World B looks forward to the Christmas Day matchup with the Cavaliers and Knicks at the Garden.  These are the likely top two teams in the east. 10:08 ... March 21st marks the Bucks visit to Phoenix as Ross looks forward to his yearly reunion with Giannis Antetokounmpo on his once a year visit to Ross' hometown. 11:09 ... The NBA and the Players Association are backing additional limitations on prop bets in the wake of gambling investigations involving Malik Beasley and Terry Rozier.  The crew examines all the angles of basketball wagering and wonders if it's possible to put the genie back in the bottle now that sports gambling has become so mainstream.  Everyone agrees that the integrity of the game can be adversely affected by gambling and the league needs to act responsibly to protect the image of the league. 21:11 ... Each panelist discusses one significant move that was made by their favorite team in the off-season.  Bruce picks the Celtics signing of Chris Boucher, the 8 year veteran who comes to Boston from Toronto. 22:33 ... World B feels the Knicks hiring of new head coach Mike Brown was a major move for the franchise.  He compares the hiring to the Yankees hiring of Joe Torre back in 1996. 25:00 ... Ross loves the Cole Anthony signing for his Milwaukee Bucks and adds that the acquisition of Amir Coffey will also be a major boost for the Bucks. 26:52 ... The Lakers will honor former coach Pat Riley with a statue on February 22nd.  The crew wonders why the Heat didn't honor him first, but all were thankful that the sculptor who did the Dwyane Wade statue in Miami isn't doing this one. 30:09 ... Bruce recounts some of the stories Lakers legend Michael Cooper told about Riles two weeks ago when he appeared on 48 Minutes.  One of the best concerned how Riley buried secret words in each player's video splits that the coach later quizzed them on. 32:33 ... Final Thoughts .... Bruce is saddened by the fact that it seems certain that Al Horford will never play another game for the Celtics.  If Big Al goes to Golden State, it's highly unlikely the Celtics will retire his #42. 34:58 ... World B talked about Major League Baseball's consideration of a realignment plan to keep the fans interested in the sport.  Adam Silver has also tried some things in the NBA with the in-season tournament an play in games.    World B praises Silver for his efforts. 38:00 ... Ross' final thought was to discuss some trades the Suns chose not to make when they dealt Kevin Durant.   Miami made an offer that the Suns turned down and everyone shared their thoughts on why Phoenix made a better deal with Houston.  Phoenix also could have made a deal where they acquired an unprotected #1 pick from New Orleans next season in the Durant deal and everyone feels like the Suns will regret not doing it. 43:06 ... Bruce shouts out to Shawn Bradley, who was paralyzed in a bike accident but appeared in public at a Big 3 game over the weekend in Dallas.  It was one of the only times he's apeared in public since his bike crash in 2021.   TRT 44:25
