Sunday Morning Message - "Delightfully Different"In this message from May 24, Pastor Kyle explores Paul's urgent call for believers to live according to their true identity in Christ, addressing how we handle disputes with fellow believers, maintain our witness before the world, and honor God with our bodies. Paul reminds us that too much is at stake—our personal holiness, our witness, and the reputation of Christ's church—to not take these matters seriously. The core message is this: we must remember who we are as children of God and allow that identity to shape every area of our lives, from our relationships to our personal choices.
Skill Refinement Even energy, even flow. Delightfully moderate tonight.

He offers the 4 tracks as one complete suite, which then is also separated out into individual pieces. My favourite here is his paean to the old Sycamore Gap tree that was attacked in Northumberland, which has since been regenerating. Schlafes Bruder by Andy Aquarius, Kimi Recor favorite track Back To The Fire Andy Aquarius has teamed up with Kimi Recor on this fine sort-of-EP. Andy plays Celtic harp, synths, and provides some vocals, and Kimi sings and plays monochord, a type of ancient stringed instrument. As the instrumentation suggests, there is an uncannily ethereal feeling to these tracks. My favourite track (Back To The Fire) utilizes Kimi's crystalline vocals to their fullest, creating an atmosphere drenched in melancholy and lamentation. Psych Against Cancer Vol 3 Part 2 by Psych Lovers favorite track Spinning Through Eternity This is the second of this year's benefit release for Macmillan Cancer Support, a whopping 55 tracks of psych and space music. As anyone knows who has experienced it, hospice is a wonderful support in a time that is so difficult to experience. Choosing my own contribution, Tom Kelly’s “Spinning Through Eternity,” but I also highly recommend Empty House, Helicon, and Vincent Carr's SUMIC The Veils “Lungs” Single 2026 Ahead of a new full-length release, Australian artist Tim Andrews has released this single. There is a delicate touch in the orchestration, as there was in Asphodels, but has a more hopeful feel. This is a wish for things to go well, for new beginnings somewhere different, for a life full of love shared. (3:46) Under Celestial Alignments by Nordic Giants UK neo-classical, ambient, post rock duo return with this lovely all instrumental release. Their sound is lush and orchestral, pianos and strings feature largely here. A start to finish listening is highly recommended, as each piece flows so well into the next. Citizen Of Glass by Agnes Obel favorite track Familiar Moody release from this multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer from Berlin. Arrangements are rather spare, yet also somehow lush. Instrumentation includes various keyboards and percussion, cello, violin, and trautonium (which is an instrument from the 1920s that sounds like glass, you will know what it is, when you hear it). The harmonies on my favourite track are chillingly unearthly. No Return Address by Mind Overclock favorite track Cold Distance Can psych be both bluesy and whimsical? Of course it can! This band proves that, with this nifty EP. Dreamy, velvety vocals; warbly, spiky, fuzzy guitars; and flights of fancy abound. I'm choosing Cold Distance to indicate what to expect, but please don't hesitate to check out the charm of enjoying Breakfast On Orion.) Heol Las by Huw Marc Bennett favorite track Y Fedwen (The Birch) Welshman Huw Marc Bennett, a multi-instrumentalist and composer pulls from folk, psych and jazz with these lovely original tunes. Delightfully bucolic, these tracks all bring visions of medieval village and farm life to me. There is a sweetly picturesque delicacy to his music, but it is also robust and earthy. Orchard by LYRRE Lyrre is also promising us a new release in May, and they've released two singles ahead of the game. These are both very much in their excellent blend of metal and folk, recognizable largely by the vocals and hurdy-gurdy of Michalina Malisz. The band aptly backs her on guitars, bass, and drums. Both of the singles are driving and compelling, but I'm choosing “Orchard,” as my favourite of the two.

The Bearded Reedling is a wetland songbird that's enjoying a boom in both population and popularity. Barely larger than a chickadee, the male reedlings are often photographed with their feathers puffed out to near spherical proportions, earning them the nickname of “the roundest bird in the world”. Reedlings breed across much of Europe and central Asia. But in the United Kingdom — where they're called Bearded Tits — the little birds were nearly wiped out in the 1940s. Thanks to decades of intensive reedbed restoration — and the bird's capacity to rear several broods in a season — there are now more than 600 breeding pairs of Bearded Readlings in the UK today.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org.Want more BirdNote? There's refined British comedy, and then there's “Fackham Hall,” a movie that waltzes in wearing period-accurate garb on the outside and immediately trips over the furniture. It's the kind of delightfully silly romp where aristocrats brood, servants scramble, romance simmers, relatives wed, and the background is working twice as hard as the actors to steal every scene, like “Downton Abbey” politely offering you tea while “Airplane” swaps the sugar for gunpowder. Set between the wars, the film follows starry-eyed servant Eric and rebellious aristocrat Rose as their forbidden attraction detonates inside a household already teetering on the edge of absurdity. The ensemble includes Thomasin McKenzie, Damian Lewis, Katherine Waterston, Tom Felton, and a sprawling cast of blissfully serious performers.Joining The Discourse in today's episode are “Fackham Hall” director Jim O'Hanlon and star Thomasin McKenzie, who break down how the team crafted a period comedy where the jokes never stop multiplying and the sincerity has to be played with absolute conviction.
Some days, you look at the online business world and wonder, what are we even doing? We were sold freedom and ended up with nonstop optimization, fake urgency, and the pressure to perform 24/7. In a world this chaotic, the smartest move you can make is building a business that isn't. You can't control the economy, the algorithm, or a flaky client, but you can control how your business runs. And when you do, your business stops being the source of drama and becomes the calm in the storm. In this episode, we're exploring the power of a delightfully boring business. Topics discussed in this episode include: Why the business "freedom" dream isn't working. How hustle culture morphed into non-stop optimization. What a delightfully boring business really looks like. Why predictability reduces stress and boosts clarity. How to build a business that stays steady no matter what. On this edition of Madison BookBeat, host Sara Batkie chats with author Emily Mitchell about her new short story collection, The Church of Divine Electricity, now available from University of Wisconsin Press. Delightfully blending literary fiction with speculative genres, the stories in The Church of Divine Electricity somehow manage to feel as though they could take place today. In Emily Mitchell's created worlds, as in our own, technology bewitches, especially with its ability to heighten both connections and isolation. Whether being held by a giant and comforting machine, allowing micro-drones to record one's every moment for a year to win prize money, or choosing self-mutilation in exchange for a bionic hand, these characters navigate technological and social change. The familiar can turn unrecognizable and disorienting—sometimes in a flash, sometimes gradually. Lyrical, haunting, and often funny, these stories ask us to consider what—and who—gets left out of a seemingly utopian future of technological advancements. Finely observed, thoughtful, and vivid, Mitchell's stories get under your skin. It's not that the best-laid plans could lead us astray—it's that they may already have. Emily Mitchell, associate professor of English at the University of Maryland, is the author of a collection of short stories, Viral, and a novel, The Last Summer of the World. Her fiction has appeared in Harper's, Ploughshares, The Sun, and elsewhere; her nonfiction has been published in the New York Times, the New Statesman, and Guernica. She serves as fiction editor for the New England Review. Author photo by J.M. Tyree.

It was a bonkers weekend of sports with multiple record-setting events. Sure, we're lamenting about the Miami Hurricanes losing a stunner at home and Jerry Jones refusing to install blinds so the Dallas Cowboys aren't blinded by the sun during late afternoon games. But we're also covering Shohei Ohtani's bonkers NLCS Game 4 performance and the Denver Broncos with a previously unheard of level of comeback, which included a whopping 33 points in the fourth quarter.Plus, we're reminiscing on classic computer games, and who doesn't enjoy that?Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/sports-r-dumb/donations
Robin Hood's Bay on the North Yorkshire coast feels remote for England. It lies at the bottom of a very steep road that descends down from the road between Whitby and Scarborough. The sign at the top of the village warns sightseers interested in a look not even to try driving down. With virtually no traffic noise and the whole area under a quiet sky, we knew this was a good place for the Lento microphones. The lane (we walked, obviously) winds very steeply down, passes a few little shops, a pub, a grocery shop with a jar part filled with fizzy drink to catch the wasps, and ends in a ramp onto the beach. Perfect waves break. Perfect because every detail can be heard cleanly, and precisely. No road or plane noise to get in the way. Robin Hood's Bay was not actually our final resting point. For this we needed to walk about a quarter of a mile over the sand to the Youth Hostel at Boggle Hole. Delightfully named. Perfectly located. Access across the beach is only possible when the tide is out. You know you're close when you reach a rocky stream that flows down from the cliffs. The last stretch, harder work. The stream is not walking boots friendly, uneven stepping stones look fun but need a confidence to use. The Youth Hostel is tranquil. It really has the most peaceful surroundings of anywhere we've ever stayed. Above the hostel is a wooded area rich with rustling trees. As night approached we followed a tiny footpath up in between the trees. They swayed and hushed in the onshore breeze flowing up from the beach. We found a tree with a good trunk and tied the Lento box on to capture the sound of the night. * This section of time is captured in the woods above the Youth Hostel. It's from 3am, early August. Weather conditions are warm and dry, with moderate winds gusting to strong. Dark bush crickets live amongst the trees. They can be heard all through the night. They can, if you feel like it, provide something nice to count, like sheep, to help you get to sleep.

The Magellanic Plover is known for being a bit of an oddball. These shorebirds have a round body like a dove and even feed their young with milk produced in a part of their digestive system called the crop — a rare trait they share with doves. But genetic data revealed that Magellanic Plovers are neither plovers nor doves — they're the only species in the family Pluvianellidae. Genetically speaking, they're one of a kind. This episode is dedicated to Kit Ellis, of Gig Harbor, Washington, with thanks for her generous support of BirdNote.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org.Want more BirdNote?
