PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI on JUMPING THE SHARK.First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on June 21st 2026.This week, if it hasn't done so already, VISION ON SOUND finally gets to jump the shark, that strange phenomenon where a TV show does something so outrageous, so ridiculous, or something simply so awful that its viewers can never really look at it in quite the same way again. The phrase itself refers back to 1977, and an episode in the fifth season of the popular American wholesome family sitcom HAPPY DAYS in which the much loved Arthur Fonzarelli (“THE FONZ”) straps on his water-skis and, well, jumps over a shark, although the phrase itself, referring to television absurdities generally, wasn't coined until 1985, nearly a decade later, by JOHN HEIN and SEAN CONNOLLY.Whilst the phrase is often used to point out the particular moment that a television series knows that it is doomed, that particular episode of HAPPY DAYS was actually very successful, and the series itself continued for another six seasons across the next seven years, and prompted seven different spin-off series during its run, including LAVERNE & SHIRLEY, and MORK & MINDY.PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI himself, suggested that we might want to talk about this whole notion of Jumping The Shark, and, at the risk of strapping on our own water-skis, over the next hour we chat about several of our favourite TV series and whether or not they ever jumped the shark, and I hope you'll enjoy at least some of that we come up with.PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

We have thoughts...it was the Hundred Auction this week and it's fair to say we have our reservations. Millions of pounds has been chucked at women's cricket which surely is a good thing right? We ask the question, has it been fair and is this right.
Eric addresses a client's critique that his recent business decisions—specifically adding a Belgian Malinois to his crew—constitute "jumping the shark." Triplet uses this pop-culture reference to explain that what spectators perceive as a desperate or gimmicky decline is actually a strategic evolution for his brand. He reveals that the dog serves as both a security detail against death threats and a safety measure in rattlesnake-prone job sites, illustrating the gap between public perception and leadership reality. By reflecting on past risks, such as signing a million-dollar lease during a recession, he argues that true growth often looks like madness to those outside the process. The episode is a motivational call for leaders to embrace bold risks and ignore the discomfort of onlookers while leveling up their professional capabilities. Key Takeaways: Embrace the discomfort of growth even when spectators or skeptics suggest that you have lost your way. Evaluate your major life decisions based on whether they expand your capabilities rather than just adding noise. Take calculated risks that align with your long-term vision, even when the timing feels uncertain or scary. Invest in your own development by teaching others, which forces you to become a better communicator and leader. Surround yourself with a community of growth-minded individuals who provide the peer pressure needed to reach the next level.

The slang term “Jumping The Shark” according to the Urban Dictionary, is when something has reached its peak and begun a downhill slide to mediocrity or oblivion. It was especially applied to TV shows like the Happy Days episode where Fonzie jumps over a shark while on water-skis. This was considered to be the low … Continue reading "Is Australia At Risk Of “Jumping The Shark?”"

Send us a textThis week, Randee Dawn stops by to discuss music, Law & Order SVU, her brief time on the road with Radiohead, her books and so much more.***Randee is a Brooklyn-based author and journalist focusing on speculative fiction across the categories (science-fiction, fantasy, and horror) at night while writing entertainment and lifestyle stories during the day for publications including Today.com, NBCNews.com, Variety, The Los Angeles Times, and Emmy Magazine. You may have seen her name in other publications over the years, including Soap Opera Digest and The Boston Phoenix, E! Online, New Musical Express, and Mojo. She contributed to a French book about American television. She's got a fair amount of short fiction in anthologies and authored the short story/poetry compilation Home for the Holidays. In The Only Song Worth Singing, the power of friendship is one of the major themes blended with myth and the power of music. Imagine Irish folklore combined with mysticism – makes for a magical read.Author Randee Dawn tells the story of three best friends and bandmates from Ireland who set off on their first U.S. tour in the 90s, but have no idea they're being pursued by mythological characters with supernatural powers.Critics call it one of the most entertaining and truthful representations of the music touring world, while the author really makes readers believe there are mystical creatures with the trio on tour.Randee spends much of her time in the evening focusing on speculative fiction across categories like sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, while writing entertainment and lifestyle stories during the day for publications that include Today.com, NBCNews.com, Variety, The Los Angeles Times, and more.Photo: Dflux Photography******If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomAudio production by Rich Zei of Third Ear AudioIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D. Alright, listen up, fuck face! This episode of the show we're talking about comedy legends, Jerry Seinfeld and Howard Stern, throwing shade at each other. We dive into the absurdity of sports marketing, and teams dressing up like they're auditioning for a spot in a Broadway musical. The Detroit Tigers? They dodged the clown suits, but barely. It's all about the fucking Benjamins, baby, and apparently, the marketing department's been hiring from the local circus. We fire up some real talk on celebrity beefs and political gaffes then fire up some off limit relationship shit.
Doc opens talking about sharks in sports, art and medicine. Doc uses examples of Mick Fanning attack by a shark in sports and Robert Shaw in the movie Jaws in art. Klapper Vision is Andre Drummond injured toe. The Weekend Warrior Clinic opens for listeners.
On this week's episode, host Johanna Maska speaks with a political panel featuring Democrat Ameshia Cross, who worked in the Obama White House, and Republican Tomi Lahren, the host of "Tomi Lahren is Fearless." They discuss this week's political news, including Donald Trump's visit to a Black church in Michigan—in front of a mostly white audience and his proposal for tax-free tips for service workers. Democrats are talking more about the politicization of the Supreme Court and what voters should think when they cast their ballots this November. Plus, the panel reacts to the internet's debate over whether President Biden froze up at a Juneteenth event at the White House while others were dancing and if that was the most important part of the event.
