Break 1: MOG   STORY 1: Police: Road rage led to shooting near Lawrenceville Square Yaqarah Bennett, a 26-year-old Lawrenceville woman, is facing serious charges, including aggravated assault, after allegedly shooting a 28-year-old man in a road rage incident near Lawrenceville Square. The victim was struck in the knee by a bullet while sitting in his vehicle at an intersection on June 27. Police swiftly secured the scene, recovered shell casings, and identified Bennett based on the victim's description and specific tattoo markings. She was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime, and cruelty to children in the 2nd Degree. The motive remains undisclosed, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Lawrenceville Police. STORY 2: Body of missing Gwinnett County man found in truck, police investigating Gwinnett County police are investigating the death of Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez, a 40-year-old Lawrenceville man reported missing by his wife on July 1st. Rodriguez was found deceased inside his truck early Wednesday morning in the 200 block of Paden Cove Trail. His wife had last seen him leaving in his truck earlier that day, and he did not return home. Authorities suspect foul play and are treating the case as a homicide, working to determine the circumstances leading to Rodriguez's death. The motive behind the incident remains unknown. Anyone with information is urged to contact Gwinnett County Police Department or Crime Stoppers. We'll be right back   Break 2: TOM WAGES   STORY 4: New warrant reveals dolly, gardening tools seized from home where Gwinnett teen vanished A new warrant reveals several items were seized from the home of missing 16-year-old Asata Amun in Gwinnett County. Asata was last seen on a doorbell camera in February. Her father, Kwabena Amun, has been uncooperative and is accused of abusing his children. Detectives seized a dolly, gardening tools, shoes, and his SUV, suspecting child cruelty. Asata's mother, Jasmine Dominique, finds the warrant's contents disturbing and believes Kwabena is hiding something. Kwabena denies abuse claims. Police are still searching for Asata, but Kwabena has not been named a suspect or person of interest. STORY 5: The color of their swimsuit could save your child's life Before hitting the beach or pool, it's crucial to prioritize water safety, especially for children. One widely discussed tip is the "swimsuit color rule," emphasizing the importance of brightly colored swimsuits, particularly neon shades. These colors make individuals much easier to spot underwater, potentially preventing drownings which tragically remain the leading cause of death for children under 4, as per the CDC. Water can distort perception, making it crucial to avoid mistaking people for other objects. Organizations like ALIVE Solutions underscore the need for highly visible swimwear to ensure swift identification in emergencies. Alongside this rule, other precautions, including close supervision and basic water safety education, are essential for a safer day by the water. We'll be back in a moment   Break 3: INGLES 2   STORY 6:   What's filming in Georgia July 2024? Recently, several major productions wrapped up filming, including "Fight Night" with Kevin Hart and Samuel L. Jackson for Peacock, J.J. Abrams' "Flowervale Street" featuring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, and a reboot of "Naked Gun" starring Liam Neeson. Also completed were Kevin Bacon's Amazon series "The Bondsman," David Corenswet's "Superman" movie, season four of Netflix's "Sweet Magnolias," and the final season of "Cobra Kai." Currently, few notable projects have begun production since late May, including reality shows, independent films, and unannounced series like "She the People" on Netflix and "G.R.I.T.S." for ALLBLK. The Georgia film office lists active productions, often under pseudonyms like "Cedar Lodge" for "Stranger Things" and "Oops All Berries" for the Disney film "Thunderbolts." STORY 7: LAKO: Smart financial moves: Managing children's earnings and inheritance When children earn money, whether through chores, jobs, or other means like acting or modeling, parents often manage it until the child reaches adulthood, typically 18 or 21. Banks may allow minors to have accounts with adult cosigners, but custodial accounts are necessary for owning stocks or mutual funds. A custodial Roth IRA is a smart investment option for children with earned income, capped at $7,000 annually or 100% of earnings, whichever is less. Parents often start with savings accounts, potentially growing into substantial investments like CDs or mutual funds by the child's teenage years. Transferring funds to a 529 Plan for education or a Roth IRA for retirement can optimize long-term financial growth, ensuring tax benefits and strategic asset management. Seeking advice from a financial advisor can help parents navigate these decisions and secure their child's financial future responsibly.   We'll have final thoughts after this.   Break 4: INGLES 3 Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Who doesn't want a taste of the sweet life?  Most folks are looking for a chance to indulge. Even when times are tough. Maybe especially when times are tough. When the economy goes down, ice cream sales go up: in the two years after the 2008 mortgage crisis, ice cream sales went up 25%.  even when times aren't bad, there's never really a bad time for dessert. You can eat cake or frozen yogurt year-round in Acadiana. And that's not just because it's always hot. The local dessert market is on the move. Food trucks are flying around Johnston Street. That's because a food truck is a great vehicle for a home grown dessert business. You can keep mixing and baking at home, without the trouble of operating a commercial kitchen and front of house.  Nina Marie Charles has taken her craft as a cake artist from her house in Carencro all the way to Netflix. She was a contestant on Is It Cake in 2022. Locally, she's known for her elaborately designed wedding cakes and for her food truck — Nina Creole where rolls are the name of the game: she makes them sweet and savory, with Louisiana spins on a fried egg roll. Nina grew up in Carencro and worked in insurance and disaster response for several years before launching her cake business in 2016. Nina Creole was launched in 2021.  Of course, if you're going to indulge, why not go big and get all the toppings. Sweet Magnolias Creamery can bring the whole frozen yogurt experience to your backyard. And my guest Charity Lewis is the one driving the truck. Sweet Magnolias is named for a mini pig on Charity's mini farm. The mobile fro yo truck isn't the only venture named for Maggie the pig. Charity also operates a nonprofit — Magnolia Kids Club — and a farmers market — Maggie's Organic Market.  Out to Lunch Acadiana was recorded live over lunch at Tsunami Sushi in downtown Lafayette. You can find photos from this show by Astor Morgan at itsacadiana.com. Charity is originally from Detroit but moved to Louisiana after a 10-year stint in Arizona.    She got the idea for the frozen yogurt shop from taking her kids to shops in Phoenix. And each summer, Sweet Magnolia's serves a little homage to her time in Arizona: the prickly pear lemonade.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

HOW DO WE BURN THIS THING DOWN?!?! Judy and Linda discuss the second season of "D.P." (Deserter Pursuit), starring Jung HaeIn, Koo KyoHwan, Son SukKoo, and Kim SungKyun. WARNING: We talk about physical, and emotional abuse, as well as bullying and suicide.   Now that we're back to recording regularly, we're trying to find a drama to cover from start to finish. So we'll be back in September with a First Impressions episode to try out "My Lovely Liar" (소용없어 거짓말), "My Dearest" (연인), "Behind Your Touch" (힙하게), and "The Good Bad Mother" (나쁜엄마).   Digressions:   0:42 - New Patreon donor and Listener E-mail! 3:35 - Linda watched the feel-good movie, "Dream" (드림) starring Park SeoJoon and IU.  5:14 - Judy distracted herself during exercise by watching the first two episodes of "Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938" (구미호뎐 1938).  12:32 - Is Linda too much of a Canuck to understand the saccharine interactions in "Sweet Magnolias" season 3? 14:06 - Judy had to stop watching the first episode of "Heartbeat" (가슴이 뛴다), starring Ok TaecYeon, but not for the reason that you think. Prepare yourself for a rant. 23:29 - Linda finished "See You in My 19th Life" (이번 생도 잘 부탁해), and it did go downhill very quickly. 27:29 - If you want a chill indie game, "Dordogne" is a beautiful watercolour depiction of the French countryside. Just don't expect a deep story arc. 32:12 - Linda feels too old to be watching "The Summer I Turned Pretty". 34:52 - Judy was very disappointed with the Marvel series, "Secret Invasion". What could have been an interesting spy thriller  involving aliens who can literally shapeshift became a boring sequence of events centred around a very tired Nick Fury. 41:55 - Linda started watching "Young Sheldon", and is enjoying the slightly more dramatic look into the character's childhood. 43:03 - Judy is hooked on "Only Murders in the Building", starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez.     Some Korean terms:   나팔꽃: [na-pal-ggot] morning glory; literally "trumpet flower". 번들거리다: [beon-deul-geo-ri-da] to glisten. 김밥: [gim-bap] rice roll. 순두부찌개: [soon-doo-boo-jji-geh] soft tofu stew.   Audio credits:   하현상 (Ha HyunSang) - "드림" (Dream) 2PM - "Heartbeat" Nickel Creek - "Destination" Supernaive - "Dordogne" - "Mimi" Zachary Dawes - "The Summer I Turned Pretty" - "Belly Looks in the Mirror (Cousins)" Kris Bowers - "Secret Invasion" - "Nick Fury (Main Theme)" Siddhartha Khosla - "Only Murders in the Building" - "Main Title"   Please send any questions, comments or suggestions on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@kdramamyeyesout) or e-mail us (kdramamyeyesout(at)gmail.com).   You can become our patron at patreon.com/kdramamyeyesout for as little as $1 per month!   Please check out Judy's Twitch channel (twitch.tv/ladyjutea) or her Instagram (@ladyjutea) for non-Kdrama geeky content!      This season of ScaryCrit keeps coinciding with some must-watch horror releases and we'd be remiss if we didn't take full advantage! This week's episode is no different as we grab hold of A24's horror feature Talk to Me (2023), having seen it on its opening night. We think that Talk to Me is a unique film in that it operates parallel to your typical possession horror flick (which makes for some unforgettable results).      Listen in as we unpack that as well as the Philippou bros.'s direction (and career beginnings), the bystander effect and what it means to bear witness in regards to social media as a narrative device, the jarring juxtaposition in framing possession as a party game, and Mia's intense and lonely bout as a grieving protagonist.     This episode might be a long one but we'd like to think it's quite gripping all the same. So, take our hand and let us guide you straight into another stellar episode of ScaryCrit!
