The NWSL has always prided itself on chaos. A league where anyone can beat anyone. But five weeks into the 2025 season, things are looking awfully similar to 2024. Four teams (Kansas City Current, Orlando Pride, Washington Spirit, and NJ/NY Gotham FC) are breaking away at the top of the standings, sweeping the other 10 teams in their path. This week, Full Time hosts Tamerra Griffin and Meg Linehan discuss whether the NWSL is losing its chaos. What has happened to the parity in the league? Should fans, broadcasters or the league itself be concerned? And, what are these four elite teams doing so right to blaze ahead? The Athletic's staff writer Jeff Rueter, also joins the debate to help analyze the past, present, and future of the NWSL's competitive balance. _______________Articles mentioned on the show: USWNT captain Lindsey Heaps says salary cap issue to blame for NWSL departuresState of the League: Before the NWSL can take on the world, it must find its place in the U.S.Depleted Spirit defeats reigning NWSL champion despite Trinity Rodman's absencePut the Washington Spirit in bubble wrap. The Orlando Pride apparently won't win every game as easily as they did the season opener, but a 2-0 road win at NJ/NY Gotham FC is a good result every time. The Pride struggled with turning the ball over and had difficulty creating clear-cut scoring chances, but an own goal and a Marta penalty at opposite ends of the first half turned the tide in Orlando's favor. We discuss the key moments in the match, look back to see how we did with our score predictions, and make our selections for Player of the Match. This week's mailbagbox wants to know if the salary cap will go away when the next NWSL collective bargaining agreement is reached and whether a Gotham own goal was preventative medicine designed to stop the fatality opponents suffer when Haley McCutcheon scores the first Pride goal. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show. Finally, the Pride get set to welcome the San Diego Wave to Inter&Co Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Wave have been a thorn in the Pride's side when they've visited Orlando in the past, while things have been easier for the Pride in San Diego in the brief series history. We look at the two combatants, provide our key matchups, and make our score predictions. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 79 went down:0:15 – The Pride were not the better side in the run of play but still come home with a 2-0 victory. That's a good sign.23:19 – The mailbagbox believes the Gotham own goal was a player playing three-dimensional chess instead of checkers.36:53 – The Wave come to town and have been a tough out at home for the Pride. We preview!

The Orlando Pride came back from the road and there really is no place like home. After the obligatory Central Florida weather delay, the Pride went out and beat defending NWSL champion NJ/NY Gotham FC 2-0 at Inter&Co Stadium. Adriana found her scoring boots and bagged herself a brace, and the Pride kept another clean sheet. We discussed the highlights from the game, checked the result against our score predictions from last week, and made our selections for Player of the Match. Our mailbagbox this week had concerns about Haley Carter's role with her new title, wondered if referees are more lenient with the Pride's opponents, asked which midfielders and formation might be used in Chicago, and questioned what the final score really was on Sunday. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show. After the mailbagbox, we dove into some of the recent Orlando Pride news, including Carter's new contract, Alex Kerr being waived, and the U-20 USWNT not using Ally Lemos in its 1-0 opening loss to Spain. We're not saying the U.S. lost to Spain because Lemos didn't play, but no one can prove the Yanks wouldn't have won if she had. Finally, we look ahead to Orlando's trip to face the Red Stars in Chicago. The Pride usually do better against the Red Stars on the road than at home, which is weird, but hopefully that trend continues. We also provide our key matchups and score predictions for this weekend's game. Here's how Episode 59 went down: 13:55 – The Pride got two goals from Adriana and a big W. 14:54 – Our mailbagbox has anxiety issues, and some bits of Orlando Pride news. 33:18 – Our preview of Orlando's trip to play the Chicago Red Stars.
The Orlando Pride returned to league play on Friday and, despite some difficulties, managed to get a second-half goal and a little bit of luck to beat the Houston Dash 1-0. The Pride established a new NWSL record for consecutive games unbeaten (18), along with a few more club single-season records. We break down the match, speak glowingly of Angelina's pass and Summer Yates' goal, check in on our score predictions, and make our selections for Player of the Match. Our mailbagbox this week was helpful to someone who asked a question last week. In addition, we were asked about which team was the Pride's biggest NWSL Shield threat and whether we should be concerned about the defensive performance in Houston. After the mailbagbox, we look ahead to NJ/NY Gotham FC's visit to Inter&Co Stadium on Sunday. We check the tale of the tape and past history and provide our key matchups and score predictions for the heavyweight battle to come this weekend. Here's how Episode 58 went down: 0:15 – It wasn't easy, but the Orlando Pride finally beat the Dash in Houston for the first time in years. 14:54 – Our mailbagbox revisits old requests and makes new ones. 27:55 – Gotham is playing well, so the Pride have to be sharp on Sunday.
This episode of Casual FC, we bestow the 'Chaos Award' to Crazy FOs for the most shenanigans caused this past week, we bring you a quick recap on last match v Orlando Pride, and a recap of the rest of the NWSL.We dive deep in our preview for the upcoming home match vs NJ/NY Gotham FC, highlighting Gotham players to watch Rose Lavelle and Emily Sonnet and ACFC's Sydney Leroux.

I decided to take a little different approach in this episode of “The Journey of My Mother's Son” podcast. As many of my listeners know, I started my podcasting journey in 2012, with my very first episode officially being released on January 28, 2013. The show was called, “Stepping Up to the Plate.” It told the stories of Berkshire Baseball and BIG Vision Foundation, the nonprofit youth sports organization that I founded and ran for 30 years of my life before Sandy and I started this new chapter of traveling full-time in our RV. The show ran for 267 episodes, with the final farewell episode airing on January 28, 2020. About a month later, on February 25, 2020, I released the premier episode of the “The Journey of My Mother's Son” podcast. During my Stepping Up to the Plate days, I was blessed with the opportunity to interview some amazing people. Some of our amazing alumni, staff and sponsors, but also some former MLB players, MVP's, World Series champions, All-Stars as well as former Olympic softball gold medalists and a women's world cup champion in soccer. Today I want to focus on that one women's world cup champion in soccer, who I was not only blessed to interview twice, but also work by her side organizing and running soccer camps for a short time. Ali Krieger recently retired from a long and storied career in women's soccer. At the International level, she was an Olympian and two-time Women's World Cup Champion, who earned 108 caps on USWNT. At the club level, she played in Germany and Sweden as well a in the United States in both the W-League and the NWSL. She played for the Washington Spirit, Orlando Pride and NJ/NY Gotham FC in the NWSL. However, the Ali Krieger that I came to know was so much more than just an incredibly talented soccer player. She was one of the most humble and genuine human beings that I ever met. She has a strong desire to use her platform to be a positive role model and give back to the next generation. So, with that being said, I wanted to share with the listeners of the Journey of My Mother's Son, the two interviews that I had conducted with Ali during my Stepping Up to the Plate days with BIG Vision Foundation. Whether you're a soccer fan or not, I am sure that you are going to find great value and inspiration in my conversations with Ali. I hope to have her as a true guest on this show someday soon now that her playing career has come to an end. I wish Ali nothing but the best in her future endeavors. This week on Soccer Made in Portland, an Oregonian Sports podcast, Chris and Ryan preview Portland vs. Gotham in the NWSL semifinals, breaking down the personnel choices coach Mike Norris will have to make and eyeing specific positional matchups. Plus, a discussion on the NWSL MVP race, which includes both Sam Coffey and Sophia Smith. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Orlando Pride have been good at home against good teams this season but that was not the case on Sunday against NJ/NY Gotham FC. The Pride played a good opening half but still entered halftime only tied at 1-1 due to a conceded penalty. They went on to play not great throughout the second half, unless being offside is great (it's not). We walk through the game and make our selections for Player of the Match. This week's mailbagbox asked us to create a starting XI out of former Pride players who are still playing elswhere. We gave it our best shot. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. The USWNT started its 2023 World Cup schedule on Friday and it was a fairly lopsided game, even if the final score was only 3-0. We are used to the U.S. starting tournaments slowly and improving over the course of the competition, but tonight's match is a big one, so the Yanks need to level up quickly. Finally, we looked ahead to Saturday's Pride trip to North Carolina to take on the Courage in the NWSL Challenge Cup. We gave our key matchups and our score predictions and simply hope Orlando can get in the win column before this tournament is over. Here's how Episode 16 went down: 0:15 – Our views of Orlando's loss at home against Gotham FC. 12:15 — The mailbagbox summons the ghosts of Pride past. 17:31 - The USWNT got past Vietnam and our key matchups and predictions for North Carolina.

S2E24 - For the Glory KC is back with the 31st episode of the show! Still with ZERO Sporting KC wins in regular season play since this podcast has existed. It's obviously not our fault, but I love to joke about it to get Sheena fired up. On this week's episode, Sporting Kansas City find a way to lose again, this time at home to the next worst team in the league, CF Montreal. Sheena and discuss the game, of course, but also the multiple chants that broke out in The Cauldron, including "Vermes Out" and "Hey, Peter, it's all your fault." Despite the loss, it's still not the worst start in MLS history. A distinction that seems to belong to the Colorado Rapids in 2019 who had just two points through 11 games. But SKC's schedule is only getting harder, so just give it time. Thankfully, it's not all downer news as I get the chance to discuss the Kansas City Current and their big win over NJ/NY Gotham FC in a relatively dominant performance. Plus, Sporting KC II gets some love on this week's episode, even if the results didn't go their way. Here is a quick rundown of topics (and approximate start times): Sporting KC Lose Again - 2:15 Dom Dwyer isn't Signing - 34:38 KC Current vs. Gotham - 41:35 SKC II Lose to Dynamo 2 - 46:47 Digital Crawl - 51:48 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/support
The Orlando Pride just keep setting league records. They aren't necessarily the NWSL records you want to set and then continue to break, but Orlando doesn't seem concerned with the details. After all, the Pride have conceded three straight goals that each broke the league's record for latest goal conceded. Two of those came in Orlando's 2-0 home loss Saturday against NJ/NY Gotham FC at Exploria Stadium. We break down what we saw of the game — and rant about Paramount+ over what we didn't see — and make our Player of the Match selections for another difficult loss. After that, we're joined by Cindy Lara from the Kansas City Soccer Journal (formerly the SBNation blog known as The Blue Testament but now an indendent website like ours). Cindy gives us the scoop on Orlando's next regular-season opponent, the Kansas City Current, what it's like adding Brazilian superstar Debinha to the squad, all the injuries the team has suffered through early in the season and the team's overall outlook. Big thanks to Cindy for coming on the show. After talking with Cindy, we discuss Julie Doyle's longterm injury and the signing of Maliah Morris as her replacement before diving into a very full mailbagbox. Look, we tried to keep this show under an hour and we almost made it but you guys asked a lot of questions, so really it's on you. You can ask us anything on Twitter by tweeting to @SkoPurpSoccer with the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and score predictions for the Pride's matches this week against the North Carolina Courage and the Kansas City Current. Here's how the show went down: 0:15 – The Pride lost in Kaylie Collins' NWSL debut, but does it count if no one outside the stadium could see it? 24:35 – Cindy Lara lends us her expertise on the Current. 39:35 – Julie Doyle's knock, a new attacker, and predictions for North Carolina and KC.
Michael Citro and David Rohe host the inaugural episode of SkoPurp Soccer: An Orlando Pride PawedCast, a new podcast dedicated to the Orlando Pride of the National Women's Soccer League and women's soccer coverage. This maiden voyage explains the origin of the show's name and the guys discuss the play of the Pride players in international matches during this window. They also break down recent roster moves by the club, including Leah Pruitt's retirement and the signing of midfielder Thais Reiss. Former Pride midfielder and current (injured) Central Florida Crusaders player Bridget Callahan is the show's first guest and it's appropriate because she popularized the term that gave the podcast its name (SkoPurp!). Bridget fills us in on the origin of the term, how she came to join the city's new indoor soccer team, her injury while playing goalkeeper (!) with the Crusaders, what she's up to now, and more. There's some USWNT talk as Michael and Dave discuss the injury to Mallory Swanson against Ireland and the loss of her talents for the upcoming World Cup. Finally, we break down the Pride's upcoming match against NJ/NY Gotham FC on Saturday night at Exploria Stadium, with our key match-ups and score predictions. Here's how the show went down: 0:15 - Our first show, Pride players abroad, and recent roster moves. 23:33 - Bridget Callahan jumps on and we're not sure who was more stoked about her being on the show. 43:09 - What Mal Swanson's loss means for the USWNT and what we expect on Saturday night when the Pride host Gotham. In their first year as an NWSL expansion team, and despite finishing eighth in the standings, Angel City FC had one of the best defensive records in the division, bettered only by the top three. It is something the new Los Angeles team prides themselves on, says head coach Freya Coombe. And it is no coincidence that they have achieved it with Coombe in charge.Indeed, in the 2021 season, when she was at the helm of NJ/NY Gotham FC (formerly Sky Blue FC), they boasted the second-best defensive performance in the league. It is, Coombe admits, something that runs at the heart of her coaching practice.“Looking at how we protect the goal is the number one principle that we have,” she tells Women's Soccer Coaching.

Orlando City is in a bit of a scoring drought but the defense has been stout so at least the Lions are able to get something even when held without a goal. The draw against Miami isn't what the Lions or their fans wanted, especially in a match that saw the team awarded a penalty, but the return of El Pulpo and a strong match from the back line helped secure a point in a scoreless draw at home on Saturday. We break down the game and make our Man of the Match selections. The Pride, however, went on the road and rebounded nicely from their loss against the Spirit, beating NJ/NY Gotham FC 1-0 at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. Erik Tymrak was the offensive hero and once again Ashlyn Harris did everything you could possibly ask from your goalkeeper. Not only did Harris pick up the clean sheet, but she also walked off the field with the league's all-time career saves record. Becky Burleigh has the team playing hard even if the Pride — like the Lions — aren't putting many shots in the net. We then turned our attention to Saturday night's Orlando City match-up against the Columbus Crew. To help us do that, we spoke with Orri Benatar from Massive Report, who helped us understand what's been going on in Central Ohio with the defending MLS Cup champs and we're all saddened at Kevin Molino facing yet another torn ACL. Big thanks to Orri for stopping by, especially since he had basically 20 minutes notice because I suck at lining up guests in advance. After a little bit of MLS All-Star Game discussion, we jumped into this week's mailbag, which asked about Orlando City's best XI and the epic way Manchester United swooped in to steal Cristiano Ronaldo from archrival Man City. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. the Columbus Crew. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 261 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City ran its unbeaten streak to six matches and the Pride got back in the win column in an important road contest. 41:50 - Orri Benatar jumps in to give us the lowdown on the Columbus Crew, who have dealt with a similar rash of injuries and call-ups to what Orlando has dealt with in 2021. 1:03:44 - All-Star festivities, some listener mail, and our predictions for the Lions and the Crew. Hey everybody! Bri and Luis are back to recap the latest Orlando Pride Challenge Cup match. We discuss the loss against the newly minted NJ/NY Gotham FC, and break down some of the key plays in the match. The Pride failed to score, and we talk about Gotham was able to come to the City Beautiful and get the win. We then look forward to the match on Wednesday against the Washington Spirit. Plus Coach Skinner's post game comments and few random things. Orlando City’s 2021 season is underway and although the Lions didn’t start with a win, they still earned a point without several key players in the lineup. We break down the match, give our Man of the Match selections, and discuss how much we hate lower body injuries while adding another to the tally. We’re joined this week by Paul Tenorio of The Athletic and the Allocation Disorder podcast. Paul is a great explainer and he does a good job of simplifying the current market situation for MLS players such as Daryl Dike in Europe, what the price tag on a sale might be, what we can expect in terms of seeing Dike in purple again before such a sale, and what Orlando City actually would get out of it. Spoiler: everyone wins here. Paul also gave an overview of Major League Soccer’s new U-22 initiative, and he weighs in on the whirlwind that was the European Super League as well. The Orlando Pride played their first home game in the NWSL Challenge Cup last week against NJ/NY Gotham FC (seriously, that’s too many initials!) and while the result was not one we enjoyed, the team does show some signs of being able to play better soccer this year. It’s now time to find some consistency and get some of the veteran leaders into top form. Some reinforcements might help this week against Washington, including the return of Alex Morgan, Gunny Jonsdottir, and Meggie Dougherty Howard. I did forget to mention Ashlyn Harris’ penalty save and subsequent NWSL Save of the Week award on the show, so I’m mentioning it here. Dave and I give our thoughts on the Super League and some of the things we were actually looking forward to if it came to pass. And of course there was an awful lot of hyperbole about it, both before and after it blew up on Tuesday, and we got into some of that as well. This week’s mailbag wants to know who Orlando’s most hated opposing players are, and we were asked to help someone with their gambling decisions (haha, coming to us for predictions!). If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That’s all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 242 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City is now unbeaten in five straight against Atlanta United but a win would have been nicer than a draw. 24:03 - Paul Tenorio serves as our MLS rules whisperer and has some great insight into why there isn’t an established market yet for European teams when buying MLS players. Plus: the U-22 initiative and the poor culture fit of the Super League. 51:04 - The Pride dropped points late again, the Super League might actually have been cool to watch despite ruffling so many feathers, our mailbag, and our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at Sporting Kansas City.
