Becky is an American soccer coach who has just retired after leading the University of Florida Gators for 26 years. She was the inaugural coach in 1994, and went on to win the NCAA title in 1998. She retired with a winning percentage of 75, and ranks second in total number of all-time wins among Division I coaches. In her time at Florida she also led the team to 14 SEC championships. With her colleague Brett Ledbetter she also runs the very successful What Drives Winning conferences that bring together Great Coaches from all over the world. In this interview some of the key highlights for me were:· Her belief that there is no task that is so important or critical that it should stop you from her bringing your best energy to the team.· Her view on the importance of courage as a coach.· That the way you treat people is more important that the tactics you deploy.· And the story she shares about how she controls her emotions during a game. Orlando City waited exactly one week after Easter to lay an egg. The Lions played easily their worst game of the year so far when the New York Red Bulls visited Exploria Stadium on Sunday, mustering only three lousy shot attempts and getting none of them on target. Orlando City was lethargic, lacked any kind of passing precision, and couldn't find a way past, through, or over New York. But it wasn't an entirely bad week for the Lions. City opened up its 2022 U.S. Open Cup play with a 2-1 win over its I-4 Derby rivals, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, on Wednesday. The Lions needed about half an hour to figure out Tampa's scheme and then some much-needed halftime adjustments allowed Orlando to dominate the second half. We break down both matches and make our Man of the Match selections. And we discuss the Lions' draw for the USOC fourth round. Kaylie Collins of the Orlando Pride made her debut with the club in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Gotham FC. The only goal she allowed was on a Kristie Mewis penalty. Kaylie celebrated that achievement by joining us on the PawedCast to tell us about her experience this past weekend, facing a Mewis penalty, the transition from Marc Skinner to Becky Burleigh to Amanda Cromwell, and the team's mindset entering the NWSL regular season. After that, we broke down the Pride's draw at Gotham and overall Challenge Cup performance, and we discussed the NWSL side's recently announced match at Daytona International Speedway in July. We also touched on OCB's scoreless draw against New England Revolution II on Sunday in the second game of the double-header. The Young Lions were outplayed but were able to grind out a result and add a second point by way of their second penalty shootout win of the year. This week's mailbag was quite full again. Listeners wanted to know if Orlando City will ever stop getting fouled in the attack and if the Lions kept their receipt for Gaston Gonzalez, among other topics. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we closed the show by giving our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday's first-ever meeting with Charlotte FC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 292 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City won one and lost one, and the loss was a pretty ugly one that we never want to see again. 34:45 - Kaylie Collins joins us to tell us about her experience on Saturday at Gotham as she faced her former mentor, Ashlyn Harris. 53:52 - Our Pride-Gotham breakdown, OCB wins another penalty shootout, our mailbag overflows, and our key match-ups and score predictions for Charlotte. Orlando City was off this week so we don't have the Lions to recap, but that doesn't mean we took the week off with them. Oh, no. Our show is about the same length as it usually is. So what did we talk about? The Orlando Pride had a key match-up in the NWSL playoff race against Gotham FC and it did not go well. The Pride made the final score more respectable and had a shot at stealing a late point but Orlando came up just short by a post. But even if that final shot had gone in, there have been some worrying trends over the last two matches for the Pride. The team has allowed the most goals in a game this season in back-to-back games, lost consecutive games for the first time since Becky Burleigh took over, gave up a goal in the third minute for the second straight match, and hasn't been getting goals from Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux during this recent skid. We're still hopeful the Pride can pull out of this recent slide and get back above the playoff line but it won't be easy. We talk about the remaining schedule, the overall playoff picture, and the oddly timed re-signing of midfielder Emily van Egmond, who may not even get her international paperwork to go through before it's too late for her to help Orlando in 2021. Dave Rohe and I also spoke about the United States Men's National Team's performances in the first two World Cup qualifiers in this three-match international window. The Concacafing couldn't stop the Yanks against Jamaica but then they turned right around and failed to take anything home from Panama on Sunday. Tonight's match looms as a must-win now to keep the team on track and above the qualification line. This week's mailbag asks about MLS expansion teams. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at FC Cincinnati this week and then we have a spoiler warning prior to our Ted (Lasso) Talk about Season 2, as requested by a listener last week. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 267 went down: 0:15 - The Orlando Pride are giving up early goals, lots of additional goals, and their big guns aren't scoring. Still, this team is in the hunt and it has lost all margin for error with three games left. 26:30 - The USMNT split its first two games of this international window and now must get something from the Costa Rica match tonight to avoid big issues deeper in the qualification cycle. 48:16 - We give you multiple warnings before launching into our spoiler-filled discussion of Season 2 of Ted Lasso. In this week's episode, the coaches welcome Interim Coach of the NWSL Orlando Pride, Becky Burleigh to talk her coaching arc and the shakeups in the NWSL. The coaches start the show discussing the negative impact of unethical coaching on the game and then turn to happier items discussing the past week in the NCAA and they introduce the next big podcast game – “Tell Matt to SHUT UP!”. They then close out the show with another effort at a Power 5 and preview the upcoming weekend's slate of games. Give a listen, tell a friend.
Orlando City did not have a good week and we'd quite frankly rather not talk about it. However, since that's literally what we do, we didn't have a lot of choice in the matter and instead ranted a bit about the effort shown by the Lions in a rivalry match on the road in Atlanta last Friday. We struggled to find a Man of the Match but in the end we came up with our picks, but only begrudgingly. There was also transfer news this week as David Loera went out on loan to Phoenix in the USL Championship. The Orlando Pride got off to another slow start but then jumped on Racing Louisville and with all three attacking stars — Sydney Leroux, Marta, and Alex Morgan — getting on the scoresheet, it was a night to remember for the club's NWSL team. We would happily take a few more three-goal games from the Pride, who haven't exactly lit up the scoreboard in 2021. That said, the Pride are in an excellent spot with five matches left to play. Let's see if Becky Burleigh can get the team over the finish line while remaining above the playoff line. The USWNT called up Morgan, and hopefully Stars & Stripes will return her in better condition this time than they did after the Olympics. This week's mailbag asked about some Ted Lasso stuff, whether our listeners jinxed Mason Stajduhar, and unsung heroes for the Lions and the Pride. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. CF Montreal and for Sunday's trip to take on the Philadelphia Union. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 263 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City was bad on Friday but the Lions also didn't look particularly excited in a rivalry match-up against Atlanta. It showed on the scoreboard. 25:24 - The Pride sent Louisvlle back home with no points and you love to see it. 43:02 - We answer our listener mail and give our predictions for the Lions vs. Montreal and Orlando City at Philly. On this week's pod, Jo and Tina chat with the legend herself former University of Florida head coach and current Orlando Pride head coach Becky Burleigh. At one point Becky was a 21-year-old coach at Berry College and now she sits at top of some of the most accomplished female coaches in women's soccer history. Her journey is inspiring and the NWSL is a better league with her in! Tune in to be fed all the wisdom!
Orlando City is in a bit of a scoring drought but the defense has been stout so at least the Lions are able to get something even when held without a goal. The draw against Miami isn't what the Lions or their fans wanted, especially in a match that saw the team awarded a penalty, but the return of El Pulpo and a strong match from the back line helped secure a point in a scoreless draw at home on Saturday. We break down the game and make our Man of the Match selections. The Pride, however, went on the road and rebounded nicely from their loss against the Spirit, beating NJ/NY Gotham FC 1-0 at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. Erik Tymrak was the offensive hero and once again Ashlyn Harris did everything you could possibly ask from your goalkeeper. Not only did Harris pick up the clean sheet, but she also walked off the field with the league's all-time career saves record. Becky Burleigh has the team playing hard even if the Pride — like the Lions — aren't putting many shots in the net. We then turned our attention to Saturday night's Orlando City match-up against the Columbus Crew. To help us do that, we spoke with Orri Benatar from Massive Report, who helped us understand what's been going on in Central Ohio with the defending MLS Cup champs and we're all saddened at Kevin Molino facing yet another torn ACL. Big thanks to Orri for stopping by, especially since he had basically 20 minutes notice because I suck at lining up guests in advance. After a little bit of MLS All-Star Game discussion, we jumped into this week's mailbag, which asked about Orlando City's best XI and the epic way Manchester United swooped in to steal Cristiano Ronaldo from archrival Man City. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. the Columbus Crew. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 261 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City ran its unbeaten streak to six matches and the Pride got back in the win column in an important road contest. 41:50 - Orri Benatar jumps in to give us the lowdown on the Columbus Crew, who have dealt with a similar rash of injuries and call-ups to what Orlando has dealt with in 2021. 1:03:44 - All-Star festivities, some listener mail, and our predictions for the Lions and the Crew. Orlando City didn't score a lot of goals but still managed to take four of a possible six points from a double-match week. The Lions started things with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Nashville SC and came home to defeat the Chicago Fire 1-0 in a week that saw even more bodies leave the game day roster. Orlando had only one Designated Player at Nashville and had only 30 minutes of a DP on the field Saturday but still managed to get some decent results. We break down the draw and the win and make our Man of the Match selections. We also premiere the new smash hit “The Grinch is Back” by listener Lee Gavlick. Here are Lee's absolutely stunning lyrics about the return of Adam Grinwis — sung to the tune of Elton John's “The Bitch is Back.” We had a ginger keeper, number ninety-nine When it came to Cup time, we felt just fine Times are changing, City's back on track And our backup's gonna stun ‘ya, ‘cause the Grinch is back Start Pedro in the league, that's alright And we'll cheer for Mason when the time is right But he can win that cup match, plays real tall Gets City by on certain evenings when his number is called Yeah the Grinch, yeah the Grinch Oh the Grinch is back Stone cold keeper as a matter of fact He's the Grinch, he's the Grinch And he's better than you With the way that he moves, Made New York look like fools Big thanks to Lee for his outstanding musical effort. The Orlando Pride tasted defeat for the first time under Becky Burleigh after blowing a late lead at Washington and falling 2-1 to the Spirit on the road. There was a colossal mistake that let the Spirit back in the game and the hosts stole all three points late. We break down that game as well and discuss the loan of Konya Plummer to the Swedish top flight. This week's mailbag asked about Suicide Squad, COVID-19 protocols in Europe, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. Inter Miami. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 260 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City got back-to-back results in a two-match week, and Lee Gavlick wrote a great musical tribute to Adam Grinwis. 34:22 - The Pride fall on the road, our mailbag, and our predictions for the Tropic Thunder rivalry on Friday. Orlando City got a break from league play last week but the Lions' first foray into international cup competitions wasn't exactly the triumphant experience for which we all hoped. Orlando created some good opportunities early but failed to cash in against Santos Laguna and it came back to haunt the Lions as the visitors scored at the half hour mark and then choked City's attack the rest of the way. Still, it was a good learning experience for the club, a chance for Orlando to grow and learn, and if you have something to say about the goal Mason Stajduhar conceded, you might want to get yourself in front of a tailing, spinning kick that bounces out in front of goal and see how easy it is to stop. Also, you might want to direct that energy at the 10 guys in front of him who failed to score a single goal — every team needs at least one of those to win a game. That's all I'm saying. We break down the game and make our Man of the Match selections. The Orlando Pride remain unbeaten under Becky Burleigh and despite missing some starters, the Portland Thorns are no slouches. The Pride grabbed a much-needed point against a difficult opponent and weren't far off from taking all three. We discuss the latest Pride outing and the loan of defender Konya Plummer to the Swedish league. We touch on the career of USWNT veteran Carli Lloyd, who announced she'll be leaving the game this fall. Lloyd has been an amazing player for the Yanks for a long time and has been an important piece of the team's success over the years. This week's mailbag is overflowing! Listeners want to know about white elephant gift exchanges, TML writers as soccer players, the Marvel shows in Disney+, legendary team lineups, and whether the time is right to bring back Carlos Rivas. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at Nashville SC and at home this weekend against the Chicago Fire. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 259 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City's Leagues Cup run didn't last long but the Lions don't have to hang their heads despite bowing out to a good Santos Laguna side. Plus, the Pride got another result against a tough opponent. 34:41 - Thoughts on Carli Lloyd's career, our mailbag, and previews and predictions for Nashville and Chicago. On this week's United Soccer Coaches Podcast, presented by TeamSnap, Host Dean Linke chats with Orlando Pride interim head coach Becky Burleigh about her move from college soccer to the NWSL. Dean then talks with University of St. Thomas men's head soccer coach Jon Lowery ahead of the team's inaugural season of NCAA Division I competition.
Orlando City is on a three-game unbeaten run after a pair of uninspiring 1-1 draws against rival Inter Miami (at home) and perenially bad FC Cincinnati (on the road) since our last episode. The Lions could, and should, have taken more from both games but points are points and the soccer gods seem unwilling to allow Oscar Pareja to have his preferred starters all healthy at the same time, so second place in the conference isn't a bad place to be, all things considered. We break down both 1-1 draws and make our Man of the Match selections for each and we've actually got some variety in our choices this week. We also talk about the recent absence of Daryl Dike and the continued absence of Alexandre Pato, as well as whether those things mean anything, especially since Orlando City made no signings before the secondary transfer window closed. Oh, and Nani and El Pulpo are All-Stars! Eugene Rupinski from FMF State of Mind jumped on with us to help us preview Orlando City's upcoming Leagues Cup match against Liga MX side Santos Laguna. Big thanks to Eugene, who knows Santos and Liga MX quite well. We'd be flying blindly into Thursday without him. The Orlando Pride got a couple of key starters back from international duty and took another step forward under Becky Burleigh with a 2-0 win on the road against the Chicago Red Stars. Sydney Leroux scored again and Jodie Taylor seems to be finding her footing with Orlando, but the team just seems better organized and less likely to make critical errors the last couple of matches. We discuss the job Burleigh has done since taking over and the signing of draft pick Viviana Villacorta (who is, unfortunately, out for the year with an ACL injury). This week's mailbag has concerns over dropped points against teams low in the table, and Daryl Dike's existence on the OCSC roster. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. Santos Laguna. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 258 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City got a pair of underwhelming draws, but the team is in second place and every point counts. We break it down and rant a bit about injury report shenanigans (again). 43:16 - Eugene Rupinski tells us what kind of team the Lions will face when Santos Laguna visits Exploria Stadium Thursday night. 1:04:08 - Our Orlando Pride-Chicago Red Stars breakdown, mailbag questions, and our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City vs. Santos. Orlando City made it six straight against rival Atlanta United without a loss (3-0-3) on Friday night, with an emotional come-from-behind victory in Homegrown goalkeeper Mason Stajudhar's MLS debut. Silvester van der Water came off the bench to spark the comeback and the Lions forced Josef Martinez to make sad faces on national television, which is always a good thing. We break down the match and give you our Man of the Match selection, which is unanimous. The Orlando Pride looked much more organized under interim coach Becky Burleigh in Saturday's 1-1 draw at the North Carolina Courage. Sydney Leroux had the goal and the team played well at times, although there still are some things to iron out to get the Pride playing as they did in the season's opening weeks. We dive into that match as well as the players' postgame comments, which were very telling. We may be used to the United States Men's National Team disappointing us while the USWNT gets results, but those roles were reversed over the past few days. We look back at the USMNT's Gold Cup final victory over Mexico and what it means for the program moving forward. Then we look at how the USWNT flamed out of gold medal contention at the Olympics. The Florida Cup returned to Orlando this past week and I give a brief overview of the proceedings from last Wednesday. It was kind of weird being back in Orlando City's old home for the first time in five years. This week's mailbag wants to know about our all-time Orlando City XI, places to visit in Cincinnati, Concacaf's choice of stadiums, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Inter Miami tonight and FC Cincinnati on Saturday. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 257 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City got the dub and it wasn't easy. The Lions showed resiliency and van der Water was the catalyst the team needed. 38:01 - The Orlando Pride took a step in the right direction in Becky Burleigh's debut, but what did those postgame comments really mean? Plus, the USMNT and USWNT might be going in opposite directions, and the Florida Cup was fun (again). 1:15:03 - Our mailbag, and prediction time for Orlando City against Miami and at Cincinnati. Sport Scene Interview: Orlando Pride Coach Becky Burleigh joins the show to talk USWMNT, Orlando Pride soccer and the future of the NCAA.
Seth Vertelney has all the American women's soccer news you need to know today, from Goal.In NWSL action on Saturday, OL Reign grabbed a much-needed 2-0 win over Racing Louisville.France star Eugénie Le Sommer scored both goals for OL Reign, her first goals in the NWSL since joining from French power Lyon.In Saturday's other NWSL match, the Orlando Pride drew the North Carolina Courage 1-1 in their first match under interim head coach Becky Burleigh. After the game, Pride goalscorer Sydney Leroux took a thinly-veiled dig at former coach Marc Skinner, who left the club at midseason to take over Manchester United. Leroux said she was happy to have, quote, the feeling of someone wanting to be here for us.Meanwhile in Japan, the U.S. women's national team are making final preparations for their Olympic semi-final showdown against regional rivals Canada. The winner of the U.S.-Canada match will face the winner of Sweden's game against Australia in the gold medal game.
Orlando City snapped a three-game winless skid on Thursday at home against the Philadelphia Union and then went right back to not winning on Sunday at New York City FC. A triumphant night against a good Eastern Conference opponent left everyone feeling good but those vibes evaporated quickly with an utter beatdown in the Bronx. A lot of that was the lineup that took the field Sunday due to rotation, injuries, and international absences but not all of it can be adequately explained. We broke down both games and selected our Man of the Match for each. The Orlando Pride had a tumultuous week with the resignation of Marc Skinner as head coach and his departure, followed by a 2-0 loss to OL Reign at home — the team's fifth non-win in a row — under the also-departing Carl Green. The Pride finally named Becky Burleigh as the interim coach to see out the 2021 season with the team in free fall from first to seventh in the league in just five matches. Both U.S. national teams were in action this past week. The women bounced back from their Olympic loss to Sweden by destroying New Zealand and then playing a frustratingly conservative 0-0 draw against Australia to get through the group. Alex Morgan scored twice — once in each game — but only one of them counted. The high-powered offense of the Netherlands awaits on Friday morning. Meanwhile, the men survived a tussle with Jamaica in the Gold Cup quarterfinals and will now face invited nation Qatar in the semifinals. The USMNT hasn't played its best in this tournament yet but has done enough to survive and advance. Let's hope Gregg Berhalter gets this young team going and perhaps set up yet another showdown against rival Mexico (or rival Canada). Plus, Florida Cup is finally underway. This week's mailbag wants to know about Orlando City's fullbacks, the future of Ali Krieger, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Atlanta United on Friday night. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 256 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City had a mixed bag in its two matches. We enjoyed talking about the first one but not so much the second. 37:00 - The Orlando Pride continue to play their worst soccer of the season, although this week it was understandable. Plus, the USWNT and USMNT are doing enough at the moment, but only just. 1:02:45 - Our mailbag, and prediction time for Orlando City against Atlanta. Learn more about your ad choices. When it comes to coaches, especially at the collegiate and professional levels, they tend to be easy to typecast as hard-driving and laser-focused individuals with one goal – winning. But then there are those like Becky Burleigh, a true original who recently retired as the only head coach in the history of the Florida soccer program. On the special edition of "Gator Greats," host Adam Schick takes Becky Burleigh down memory lane in a wide-ranging and revealing discussion about her improbable beginnings as a young head coach, the challenges of launching a new program, her toughest opponents, how she knew it was time to step aside, what she plans to do with her second act and much more. Sarah Lowdon recently joined the staff of Penn State Women's Soccer. Prior to her current role she was with the Florida Gators Soccer program and wrote the book A Desk And A Chair highlighting some of the things she learned from Becky Burleigh. We talk about leadership, confidence, and more in this episode.
Becky Burleigh is the soon-to-retire head coach of the University of Florida Women's Soccer Team. She has been at the University of Florida for 27 years, where she started the program. Before that, Becky was the head coach at Berry College in Rome, Georgia at the age of 21. She was the captain of her soccer team, playing defense and goalie, before going on to coach at the age of 21. By age 26, she was in Florida, heading and starting up the program. In four years, at the age of 30, she helped to lead the University of Florida to a National Championship. Becky is an amazing leader who thinks deeply about character and “what drives winning,” which is a question and a statement. Becky is also obsessed with the idea of how do coaches develop and get better beyond the X's and O's? In this episode, we discuss why Becky is interested in DJing (6:47), her go to song (9:43), why she transitioned from playing defense her first 3 years at college to playing goalie for her senior year (11:51), where her discipline and desire to go toward the grind came from (14:53), her parents and the impact they had on her (15:41), selflessness and service in partnerships (18:16), perspective taking as a coach (20:28), how to mix the desire to win and challenging players with the idea that her players are ultimately still just playing a sport (23:38), what it was like coaching Abby Wambach as a freshman (26:46), if she treated Abby differently (28:50), where Abby's alpha mentality came from and what it was like coaching an alpha (31:05), influence (33:26), if she considers herself to be an alpha (35:29), curiosity and conviction (39:27), judgment (42:16), paranoia in sports (45:36), lack of boundaries in sports (47:52), what triggered her transition into retirement (51:52), if there are ways to lessen the sacrifices made in sports (54:36), what drives winning (55:54), how to be a great questioner but also provide guidance and answers (57:15), more about what drives winning and where it's going (58:58), teaching at Florida and what she's excited about going forward (1:00:47), You can check out Becky on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook @BeckyBurleigh! Additionally, make sure to check out WhatDrivesWinning.com! Thank you so much to Becky for coming on the podcast! Episode # 29 … Brett Ledbetter/Becky Burleigh, What Drives WinningWhat drives winning? That’s a really great question that I think we all would love to have the answer to. Well today we plan on getting you closer to that goal as we sit down with the co-founders of the What Drives Winning conference Brett Ledbetter and Becky Burleigh. Brett Ledbetter is a consultant, author, and speaker who has helped both coaches and athletes tap into their ultimate potential through his conference, Tedx talks, and his work as a “thought partner” for programs such as Gonzaga mens’ basketball, The University of Oregon Women’s basketball program, and The University of Florida’s softball and soccer programs, just to name a few. In 25 seasons at the helm of the University of Florida’s soccer team, Becky Burleigh, has led UF to a NCAA Championship, two NCAA College Cup appearances, 14 Southeastern Conference titles and 22 NCAA Championships berths. Coming into this season, in 30 seasons of coaching, Burleigh has compiled an overall record of 507-152-43 (.753) and her 507 wins places her No. 2 among active Division I coaches and No. 3 all-time for D1 career victories. Fam… UF Women's Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh BELIEVES that she was the one responsible for Gainesville’s scooter revolution. Sure, she helped A LITTLE, but we all know the truth, haha! :) Becky has been a long-time friend and customer of New Scooters 4 Less and it was awesome to hear her story, talk soccer, hear what it’s like when a player you coach like Abby Wambach scores in the last minute of the World Cup, chat about social media in a college-athletic environment, discuss college athletes being compensated for the name, image, and likeness, and hear about some of the empowering things she and her other coaches do to build up these young women! One of our favorite episodes! We're honored to know this incredibly talented and humble coach. Enjoy the episode! This episode is brought to you by our incredible sponsor, Advantage Personnel Resources! Our team at New Scooters 4 Less is a client of APR, they do so much for us. One of our fav things is being able to run HR stuff by Christine on the fly. Seriously, she read our updated 2020 NS4L Handbook (how boring is that) and then cleaned it up (over the holidays too) in order to make sure it was legit and good to go for 2020! Few college coaches can match Becky Burleigh’s ability to bring a team ready to challenge for each season’s conference and national titles on such a consistent basis. There is no question that Burleigh stunned the soccer community when the Florida program she started in 1995 claimed the 1998 NCAA crown in just its fourth season of play. But focusing on that obvious achievement doesn't give due credit to the job Burleigh does year-in and year-out as a tactician of the sport, developing players and promoting the sport at local, state and national levels. Those early successes have evolved into the Gator soccer team being a regular among the nation’s ranked teams. Over the course of the program’s 23 years, Florida has: 21 NCAA Championships’ berths (1996-2001; 2003-2017) Two NCAA College Cup appearances (1998, 2001), winning NCAA title in 1998 14 SEC team titles (1996-2001; 2006-2010; 2012-13, 2015) 12 SEC Tournament titles (1996-01; 2004; 2007, 2010, 2012, 2015-16) Two Special Offers for my listeners: Go to https://www.patreon.com/onthetouchline and for $10.00 per month you can join a private soccer group for supporters of this show.
