Break 1: KIA M.O.G.   STORY 1:    Eminent Domain Battle Brewing Between Norcross and Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation The Norcross Woman's Club and the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation are in dispute with the City of Norcross over the future of the club's historic building, which was recently donated to the Trust. The city plans to consider a condemnation resolution on September 3, initiating the eminent domain process. While the city insists this move is not intended for demolition, the Georgia Trust is concerned that it could jeopardize the building's preservation. The Trust aims to restore the building and convert it into a private residence with preservation easements, but the city prefers a public use for the structure. The building, originally Gwinnett County's first library and designed with Greek Revival architecture, remains a point of contention. STORY 2: Three Gwinnett Grads Named AP Football Preseason All-Americans Three former Gwinnett prep stars have been named to the Associated Press preseason All-American Team. Caleb Downs, a safety for Ohio State, was previously an All-American at Alabama and leads the defense. Barrett Carter, a linebacker at Clemson, is also on the first-team defense, known for his impressive stats and All-ACC selection. Travis Hunter of Colorado, a versatile player from Collins Hill, made the first-team offense as an all-purpose player. Ohio State led with four selections, while Georgia and Michigan each had three. STORY 3:     Buford's Neely Kerr Headed to Colombia with US U-20 World Cup Team Neely Kerr, a senior at Buford, received exciting news that disrupted her school year: she was selected as one of three alternates for the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Soccer Team for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia. Initially listed as a provisional roster member, Kerr was called up after an injury opened a spot. She'll complete her schoolwork online from Colombia through early September. Despite not being on the main roster, this opportunity to train with the team is a significant step in her soccer career. Kerr, who has been highly successful in high school soccer, will graduate early and join Clemson University in January. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. The majority of students are from Gwinnett County, but the college also attracts students from across the U.S. and 116 countries, with Vietnam, Nigeria, Venezuela, Mexico, and India being the top five. Dr. Michael Poll, VP of Enrollment Management, credits this growth to strong collaboration among staff and a focus on student success and retention, which has led to a 4% increase in returning students. STORY 5: Pearl Harbor Hero To Be Laid To Rest On December 7, 1941, U.S. Navy Fireman 2nd Class Joseph William Carroll perished aboard the USS Oklahoma during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Of the 429 crewmen lost, 388 remained unidentified until recent efforts began to exhume and identify remains. By August 19, 2019, Carroll was among those identified. His remains will be interred at the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu on August 21, 2024. Carroll's cousin, Nancy Leigh Carroll De La Cruz, will attend the ceremony, honoring his sacrifice and placing him to rest alongside his fellow sailors. It's early June, so technically it's still time to do some spring cleaning. Speaking of which, the Lions got their brooms out and swept the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night in Harrison, NJ. Ivan Angulo, Facundo Torres, Wilder Cartagena, and Robin Jansson starred on a night when Orlando City's strategy was to stay organized against New York's chaotic press and wait for opportunities to punish the Red Bulls on the counter. That's pretty much what the Lions did on Saturday and it resulted in a 3-0 win against a team that hadn't given up more than two in a match all season. We broke down Orlando's win in the Garden State and selected our Man of the Match. We also touched on several Lions who were honored for their performances in that game. Oh, and Mikey Halliday is coming home, which is good, but it's because the U-20 USMNT lost in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinals, which is bad. After our review of Saturday's match, we opened up the mailbagbox. Among this week's topics were Targeted Allocation Money and buying down Designated Players, along with home form vs. road form. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we discussed a disjointed Orlando City B performance north of the border against Toronto FC II. The Young Lions never seemed in this game and the warning bells were chiming loudly just 17 seconds into the match. It was not a fun night for OCB. Here's how No. 350 went down: 0:15 – The Lions didn't have their sharpest passing night, but they put the ball in the net three times, which is always a welcome sight. 33:42 – OCB had a very bad night in Canada. 42:31 – The mailbagbox beckons and we don't claim to be experts on the weird player-signing mechanisms in MLS. A to plodí další spory a výrazné konfrontace. To všechno nabaluje do stále větších rozměrů gigantickou kouli negativní energie. A nejenže ji Gianni Infantino, prezident FIFA neutlumil. Naopak ještě vyvolal další zděšení, když po bizarním expozé, že on se„dnes cítí jako Katařan, Arab, homosexuál a invalida". začal západnímu světu vyčítat pokrytectví. Sandra Herrera and Lisa Roman run through the latest news in women's soccer around the globe. After the conclusion of the Women's 2022 Euros, the Women's World Cup of 2023 is the next major tournament on the horizon. Sandra and Lisa discuss the teams that have already qualified for the World Cup - including the US and Canada - and which teams still have to fight for a spot - England and Germany. This week US Soccer announced that the United States Women's National Team would be traveling to Europe for a pair of friendlies in October in preparation for the World Cup. The USWNT will play in London at Wembley Stadium against European Champions England on October 7. International soccer doesn't stop there, the FIFA U-20 World Cup kicks off next week with the US fighting for a World Cup. The Great Coaches: Leadership & Life

If you would like to send us any feedback or join in our live webinars, then we would love to hear from you, please contact us at thegreatcoachespodcast@gmail.com or contact us through our website thegreatcoachespodcast.com Our Great Coach on this episode is soccer coach Beverly Priestman. Bev grew up in England where she completed a bachelor's degree in science and football from Liverpool University. In her early 20's she moved to New Zealand as head of development for the national football federation. She then moved to Canada as an Assistant to the National Womens team coach, as well coaching the Canadian Womens team at the FIFA U-17 World Cups. From there she returned to the UK to work as an Assistant for Phil Neville who was coaching the National Womens team and helped guide them to fourth place at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France. Then in 2020 she was appointed Head Coach of the Canadian Womens team and famously led them to a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Bev is a coach, who at only 35 years old, already has almost 20 years experience across 3 countries. This perspective, coupled with her energy gives her a depth of wisdom that is motivating and inspiring. She is strongly values led, and she talks a lot about the role that bravery has played in her life and how it helped shape the focus of her team, so that they could fulfill their mission of changing the colour of the medal, at the Tokyo Olympics. She is also confident, and yet still humble enough to talk about her to talk about her emotional and intellectual development as a coach. Some of the other highlights of the interview for me were: How in high-pressure situations she sees her job as lightening the mood so that people can perform at their optimal level, and the story she shares around how she did this in the Olympic village the day before the gold medal match. How getting herself out of her comfort zone, and diversifying her experiences allowed her to grow in confidence and belief. How she used the pandemic lock down to self-develop by focusing on who she was a person, her values and the team culture she wanted to develop. Bev is a coach with what I expect will be a long and successful career ahead of her, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
