Email us at podcast@pursueGOD.org.Donate Now --Believable Lie #1: God Is a KilljoyWe've all heard little phrases that sound wise, comforting, or even spiritual—but they're not true. One of the most common is this: God doesn't want me to have any fun. Christianity is painted as a straightjacket, filled with rules and regulations designed to rob us of joy. But when we look at the Bible, we discover the opposite. God is not against our joy—He designed us for it.1. God's First Act Was BlessingWhen God created humanity, His very first action was blessing.“Then God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.'” Genesis 1:28 NLTFrom the beginning, God was for humanity, not against them. He gave people:The blessing of family (“be fruitful and multiply”)The blessing of purpose and responsibility (“fill the earth and govern it”)The blessing of authority as image-bearers (“reign over all the animals”)This is not a killjoy God. This is a good Father who wants His children to flourish.2. God's Provision Was AbundantGod also provided generously for His people.“Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.” Genesis 1:29 NLTFrom food to meaningful work, God filled their lives with everything needed for satisfaction. Genesis even describes Eden as a “protected place of pleasure.” Far from being restrictive, God's design was overflowing with joy and provision.3. God Gave Boundaries for Our GoodBut God also gave the first moral boundary.“You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Genesis 2:16-17 NLTThis wasn't about killing joy—it was about protecting it. Boundaries are part of love. Just as good parents set limits to protect their kids, God gave Adam and Eve a command for their flourishing.4. The Serpent Reframed God as a KilljoyIn Genesis 3, the serpent planted the first seed of suspicion:“Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” Genesis 3:1 NLTNotice the distortion—turning God's...

Interview by Kris PetersNew Zealand's finest exports Devilskin have epitomized everything rock and metal ever since unleashing their debut album We Rise on the world eleven years ago. Not only did their high energy and infectious brand of metal resonate with hometown music lovers, but it also quickly spread on a global level, resulting in the band supporting and touring with established acts such as Slash and Halestorm.Such was the popularity of Devilskin following We Rise that the band became the first New Zealand rock/metal outfit in 18 years to go Platinum, equalling the effort of the mighty Shihad with the album Killjoy. Over the years singles such as Never See The Light, Little Pills, Start A Revolution, Endo and a cover of Heart's classic, Barracuda, have highlighted the personal nature of Devilskin's music as well as the sonic diversity at their disposal.Eleven years after the release of the groundbreaking We Rise, Devilskin return with Re-Evolution, an album that has already been credited with displaying just how far Devilskin have come in 15 years. This is a bold and dynamic perspective of Devilskin and their continued growth plus the reinvention, and the re-evolution of the band as songwriters and as artists. With Re-Evolution dropping today, July 11, HEAVY spent some time with bass player Paul Martin to dig deeper. We start by asking how he is feeling with the release date finally here."It's good, man," he smiled. "It's like that painful bit where you're in labour, and this beautiful product's about to pop out, but at the moment it's like getting everything squeezed into the right places and mailing everything out. Man, we've had so many orders from all over the world, so I've been busy licking stamps and sealing envelopes (laughs)."We ask about two of the singles - Swelter, and Half Life of Dreams - and if they are a good sonic representation of what to expect."I think there's a little bit of everything on this album," Paul measured. "I don't think there's two songs that are quite alike, they're all kind of different in their own way. It's a glimpse into what's on the album, definitely. With the whole album, we wanted to be bold. We just wanted everything to be… we just wanted more of everything."In the full interview, we discussed Re-Evolution in greater detail, including the title of the album, and it's significance to the band. We spoke about the opening song, Red, and why it was chosen as an introduction to the body of music plus Devilskin's growth in their musical journey to date asnd how much growth is left in them.Talk also centred on how the new songs went down live on their rTalk also centred on how the new songs went down live on their recent New Zealand Tour, the guest parts from Nik Barker (12 Foot Ninja) and Joe Hottinger (Halestorm) and what each brought to the song, their recent People's Choice Award victory at the AMA Awards and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

It's almost blackmail… Can it really be my duty to buy and receive masses of junk every winter just to help the shopkeepers?' Step forward C.S. Lewis, beloved Christian apologist and children's author, whose splenetic denunciation of ‘the whole dreary business' of Christmas and mean-spirited comments about carol singers are hard to reconcile with his reputation for benevolence. We're discussing Star Trek: Lower Decks episode "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel", and spoilers, we aren't fans! The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel did not deserve this "My shoulders went up around my ears and stayed there for the entire episode." Jennifer is abusive, and it's weird how the show (and the fandom!) seems to consider this zany and delightful This is not a great season for Tendi's characterisation so far It feels like Mariner and Tendi's arcs ended in season 4 and the show doesn't quite know what to do with them now But also, less than week to the US election and Lower Decks is like, "How about an episode where a Black woman on the cusp of becoming a leader is mistreated and everyone cheers?" Guys. An Apocalypse Now parody? Groundbreaking. Anika: "I apologise to people who liked this episode." Liz: "I don't." How much has season 5 been affected by the industrial unrest across the entertainment industry? There are so many barriers to making good television at the best of times! Also, Liz talks about season 5 of Babylon 5 (sorry, Anika)
