Have an episode suggestion? Text us!A classic replay for the absolutely insanely busy life we're living right now. I love this episode because it offers inspiration to those that are looking at their current life and a life of sobriety and wondering how it could ever happen...I promise you, it's possible and YOU can do this!Getting sober is one thing. Staying sober - living sober in a world where alcohol is everywhere - is another challenge entirely. In this episode of Mindset Monday, Matt dives into what it really looks like to be sober day-to-day, from battling boredom and navigating social situations to understanding the brain science behind why everything feels flat at first.Matt shares practical strategies, personal stories, and the mindset shifts that carried him through the hard moments: why cravings pass in 15 minutes, how to survive your “firsts” without alcohol, and how to make sobriety part of your identity rather than a punishment. You'll hear about transitional addictions, why consistency matters more than perfection, and why the phrase “I don't drink” is so much more powerful than “I can't drink.”Whether you're new to recovery or years in, this episode is about more than avoiding alcohol - it's about building a life you don't want to escape from.Find video clips and full length video from this episode on YouTube and our other social media pages! On the web:www.twfo.comSupport the Show:Buy Us a Coffee!Online Program: www.reclaiming-you.comSoberlink Device:www.soberlink.com/wheelsCheck out our blog:https://twfo.com/blogFollow us on TikTok:https://tiktok.com/@twfo_coupleFollow us on Instagram:https://instagram.com/twfo_couple/Follow us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/TWFOCoupleFollow us on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@twfo_coupleFind Taylor Counseling Group:https://taylorcounselinggroup.com/Donate to Counseling for the Future Foundation:Donate Here
Jonathan Parsons grew up in a good family but fell into addiction at a young age, a path that nearly cost him everything before he got sober at just 21 years old. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Jonathan shares how he stayed clean for seven years and built a life as a paramedic and firefighter, only for the trauma and stress of the job to pull him back into addiction. What followed was a rapid downward spiral — losing his career, his business, and his relationships, and ultimately landing in jail multiple times. Jonathan opens up about the mental toll of being a first responder, how relapse can happen even after years of sobriety, and what it took to hit rock bottom and start fighting his way back. _____________________________________________ #AddictionRecovery #Relapse #Paramedic #EMT #FirstResponder #MentalHealth #TrueStory #recoveryjourney _____________________________________________ Connect with Jonathon Parsons: Tiktok & Instagram: Jonnie_parsons_official Jonnie Parsons on Facebook _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Rock Bottom That Changed Everything 00:43 Early Life & Family Background 01:59 Growing Up Too Fast 03:05 First Exposure to Drugs & Sports Life 04:47 High School, Partying & Slipping Into Addiction 06:00 Dropping Out & Losing Control 08:35 First Arrest & Run-Ins With Police 10:27 The First Attempt at Getting Clean 11:57 Getting Sober & Starting Over 12:50 Becoming a Firefighter & Living a Double Life 14:38 Trauma on the Job & Relapsing 17:27 Losing Everything & Hitting Bottom Again 19:59 Helping People While Fighting Addiction 22:19 The Dark Reality of Being a Paramedic 25:22 Becoming a Father During Addiction 26:05 Losing the Business, Getting Locked Up 31:31 Inside Jail & The Wake-Up Call 35:35 Life After Jail & A Second Chance 40:00 Relationship Problems, Relapse & Final Turning Point 44:00 Marriage, Rebuilding & Turning Life Around 47:01 Staying Sober, Family Life & Giving Back 50:43 Sharing His Story & Finding Purpose 52:14 Triggers, Alcohol & Staying Clean 54:12 “Am I Still an Addict?” 55:35 Talking Openly About Addiction 57:12 Making Amends & Accepting the Past 58:33 Advice to His Younger Self 59:24 Final Thoughts Learn more about your ad choices. EPISODE 673 - Mary Alice Stephens - UNCORKED - Getting sober is one thing, staying sober anotherMary Alice Stephens is a creative nonfiction storyteller. As a television writer-producer for HGTV, Food Network, and other media outlets, she shared others' stories on everything from outdoor adventures to home improvement. Now, in her debut book, Uncorked -- an Amazon #1 New Release in both Alcoholism Recovery and Midlife Self-Help -- Mary shares her own powerful story of alcoholism, recovery, and starting life anew at 45. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Dominican University of California and resides in Northern California. When not writing, she can often be found cyber-stalking her teens, planning her family's next adventure, or searching for her elusive phone.Book: Uncorked: A Memoir of Letting Go and Starting OverGetting sober is one thing, staying sober another…With a glorious bang, alcohol freed Mary Stephens from her lonely, self-critical teenage shell and fueled Fun Mary. For three decades, booze had been her best friend, the reliable spark igniting good times and (she thought) good friendships. But Fun Mary had a dark side: debilitating hangovers, blackouts, and perilous behavior. Not even a three-story fall that left her in a body cast could stop her from drinking. But finally, after putting her young son in danger and her marriage in jeopardy, Fun Mary had to go.Now sober at age 45, everything Mary once cherished becomes a trigger—date nights with her husband, friendships centered around wine, and a father who expresses his love through alcohol. This new Sober Mary is lonely and vulnerable—feelings she drank to escape. Now what?Told with heart and humor, Uncorked: A Memoir of Letting Go and Starting Over is the inspiring and relatable story of a woman's pursuit of a better life through sobriety.About the AuthorMary Alice Stephens is a creative nonfiction storyteller. Send us a textIt's mid-January, the "Pink Cloud" of New Year's resolutions has evaporated, and for many in the Northeast, we are staring down a "marathon of dark, cold, and gloomy days". In this episode, Matt and Steve get honest about the "January Gloom" and a phenomenon many newcomers face but rarely understand: Anhedonia. If you feel numb, bored, or like life has lost its "charm" since the holidays ended, you aren't doing recovery wrong—your brain is simply healing. We discuss why trying to "fix everything at once" (the gym, the diet, the 5:00 AM wake-up call) is often a recipe for relapse, and why sometimes, the greatest victory you can have is simply putting your head on the pillow sober. What We Discuss:The Dopamine Gap: Understanding Anhedonia—the temporary inability to feel pleasure while your brain chemistry recalibrates after years of "instant gratification" drinking. The Danger of the "Great Reset": Why piling on too many new habits in January can burn you out and why you should "lower the bar" for your own success. The Default Plan: Steve shares his "built-in default" for when life gets stressful and why a meeting is his safe haven even when he doesn't feel like going.Sobriety in the "Muck": Dealing with physical setbacks like Lyme disease and surgery recovery, and learning to prioritize rest over "hustle".Tuesday Morning Clarity: The power of "playing the tape" and how sobriety allows us to show up for our families in ways we never could while drinking.Key Resources Mentioned:Podcast: Sober Powered with Gill Tietz (for a deep dive into the science of addiction).Book: Never Enough by Judith Grisel (on the neuroscience of the addicted brain).Book: Living Sober."If you're in your first 30 days and you didn't drink today—that's a lot. That's damn good. Lower the bar, baby." — Matt J. Support the show

Tonya Higdon grew up in a good family, but childhood trauma pushed her into years of addiction involving nearly every drug you can imagine. She became a young mother while struggling to stay clean, bounced in and out of trouble, and eventually went on the run after multiple arrests for driving without a license. When she was finally caught, Tonya was sentenced to three years in the Florida state prison system—where she formed a long-term relationship with another woman that lasted her entire sentence. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Tonya shares her full story: her upbringing, addiction, life on the run, surviving prison, the realities of having a prison girlfriend, and how she worked to rebuild her life afterward. I'm honored to welcome my friend, Will Hudson, to the podcast today! Will's story starts like many others in ranch country: long hours, responsibility at a young age, and a deep desire to prove himself. Joseph Schultze's life looked nothing like the path that would eventually lead him toward prison. Growing up in Binghamton, New York, he had a loving home — but also parents battling cocaine addiction. Forced to take care of them while still a teenager, Joseph dropped out of high school and developed crippling anxiety. A car accident became the turning point that pulled him into painkillers, harder drugs, and a spiral of crime that racked up multiple larceny charges. Facing years behind bars, Joseph took a chance on New York's infamous shock program — a grueling alternative to prison designed to break inmates down physically and mentally. #AddictionRecovery #PrisonStories #ShockProgram #OvercomingAddiction #TrueCrimePodcast #AddictionAwareness #LifeAfterPrison #RecoveryJourney Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Get 50% off the Magic Mind offer here: https://www.magicmind.com/IANB50. #magicmind #mentalwealth #mentalperformance Presented by Tyson 2.0 & Wooooo Energy: https://tyson20.com/ https://woooooenergy.com/ Use code LOCKEDIN for 20% OFF Wooooo Energy Buy Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction & Early Addiction 00:50 Meet Joe: Hometown and Upbringing 02:00 Parents' Punk Rock Past & Family Struggles 04:04 Childhood Stories 07:00 Parents' Arrest 09:45 Family History & Normalcy Amidst Chaos 12:26 Dreams for the Future & Sports 13:51 Struggles in School and Dropping Out 14:44 Hitting Rock Bottom in High School 17:17 The GED, New School, and Finding Purpose 18:35 Early Jobs & Anxiety Takes Over 19:37 Battling Severe Anxiety and Isolation 21:18 Emerging from Anxiety 22:26 Family Crises and New Responsibilities 23:54 Balancing Business, Love, and Parental Care 27:32 Becoming a Parent: Breaking the Cycle? 32:30 The Accident That Changed Everything 36:56 Raising a Daughter 40:40 Understanding His Parents 42:58 Losing Prescription Access 45:39 Descent Into Heroin and Selling Possessions 47:59 From Using to Dealing & Living the Fast Life 52:40 Boosting: Shoplifting to Survive 57:07 Life of Boosting: Escalation and Arrests 01:04:04 Legal Trouble: Juggling Charges and Addiction 01:11:49 The Downward Spiral: High-Speed Chases & More Crime 01:18:19 Identity Theft & First Long Jail Stint 01:26:32 Jail, Withdrawal, and Hitting Bottom 01:36:08 Back to the Streets: Meth, Cars & Escalation 01:42:17 Caught Again: The End of Bonnie & Clyde 01:44:55 State Time: Programs & Military Boot Camp 01:56:41 Shock Program: Getting Broken Down to Build Up 02:08:08 Completing Shock & The Path to Recovery 02:13:13 Staying Sober, Rebuilding Life & Family 02:20:00 Lessons Learned & Final Thoughts 02:25:52 Outro & Gratitude Powered by: Just Media House : https://www.justmediahouse.com/ Creative direction, design, assets, support by FWRD: https://www.fwrd.co Learn more about your ad choices. Blake Fitzgerald was just a regular guy from Minnesota—until a side hustle on TikTok turned into a six-figure illegal gambling operation. After dropping out of college and bouncing between jobs, Blake discovered the world of gambling livestreams. Within months, he was pulling in over $100,000 running an underground gambling ring through social media. But the fast money came with heavy consequences. What started as a business turned into an addiction, and eventually, the law caught up with him. In this interview, Blake shares how he built the operation, how it spiraled out of control, and how he managed to escape prison time through a plea deal. #IllegalGambling #TikTokScam #TrueCrime #GamblingAddiction #LockedInWithIanBick #SocialMediaCrime #NoPrisonTime #UndergroundGambling Connect with Blake Fitzgerald: TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@klozer10x_2.0 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/klozer10x/ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Get 50% off the Magic Mind offer here: https://www.magicmind.com/IANB50. #magicmind #mentalwealth #mentalperformance Presented by Tyson 2.0 & Wooooo Energy: https://tyson20.com/ https://woooooenergy.com/ Use code LOCKEDIN for 20% OFF Wooooo Energy Buy Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction & The Shocking Call 00:34 Blake's Background and Upbringing 02:56 Childhood, Parents, and Lessons Learned 05:54 Family Dynamics & Early Life Challenges 13:04 College, Early Work, and First Adult Steps 17:15 Launching a Career: Sales, Oil Fields & Construction 20:51 Discovering Gambling Streams & TikTok Live 24:55 Explosive Growth on TikTok 31:36 Gambling Becomes a Business 38:28 The Illegal Gambling Model Starts 41:08 Managing Money, Moderators, and Viewers 43:43 High Stakes, Big Nights, and Addictive Success 47:35 TikTok Fame, Haters & Legal Gray Areas 55:10 The Investigation and Downfall 01:01:38 Facing Charges & Navigating the Legal System 01:09:03 Plea Deals, Consequences, and Community Service 01:13:15 Addiction Continues: Gambling Beyond TikTok 01:17:17 Embracing Recovery: Gamblers Anonymous 01:21:14 Life After Gambling: Fast Cars and Family 01:28:25 Social Media Reflections & Giving Back 01:32:33 Media Coverage, Public Perception, and Reputation 01:35:01 Lessons Learned: The Dangers of Gambling Culture 01:41:12 Moving Forward, Staying Sober, Final Thoughts Powered by: Just Media House : https://www.justmediahouse.com/ Creative direction, design, assets, support by FWRD: https://www.fwrd.co Learn more about your ad choices. SET FREE SISTERHOOD- Mindset and Over drinking Coach -Thriving Alcohol Free- Faith Filled Women
Hye Sister, This episode is for the woman who's walking through grief — whether it's the loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or just the deep ache of unmet expectations and change. I see you. I know how easy it is to want to numb the pain, to quiet the chaos in your heart with a glass of wine, or anything that promises relief. But sister, alcohol doesn't heal grief — it delays it. In this conversation, I'm getting real about what grief actually feels like, why it makes sobriety harder, and how to stay alcohol-free even when your world feels like it's falling apart. I'll share tools that help you move through the pain instead of getting stuck in it, and remind you that God is near — even when it feels like you're drowning. If you're hurting right now, this one is for you. You don't have to do this alone. You're not broken — you're grieving. And staying sober in your sorrow is one of the most powerful things you can do for your healing. If you're feeling stuck and want personalized support, I'm here. Email me at michelle@setfreesisterhood.com. I'd love to walk alongside you in this journey of freedom.

Episode 325 Hello, friend! Thank you for being here. If you're in your first year of sobriety, congratulations! I'm very proud of you wherever you are on this road to alcohol freedom in midlife. During this episode, I'm sharing the things that helped me stay alcohol-free during my first year. I stopped drinking in 2013, choosing to go it alone. I stuck to simplicity because that is all I knew. I wasn't sure if I was doing things "right," but here we are today, almost 12 years later. I've been able to sustain sobriety because I've done what works for me. This is what I encourage you to do in this episode. Here is what I did during my first year: I committed fully to sobriety as my priority, despite not being naturally disciplined. I focused on my why - feeling better, aging better, and not continuing to repeat the same life year after year I celebrated my progress (eventually), saying yay, me! became a fun habit. I protected myself by avoiding situations that might tempt me to drink. I kept busy with my business and productive activities instead of drinking. I started "Project Me" by making exercise my focus and using my gym membership. I read quit-lit books that inspired and guided me through early sobriety. I learned to sit with discomfort instead of numbing out with alcohol. I talked about my feelings instead of bottling them up. I allowed myself sugar and other substitutes without guilt. People often ask me, “How do you stay sober when life gets stressful?” And my answer is always the same: I don't just work on staying sober—I work on managing stress and anxiety every single day. Because here's the truth: Your brain doesn't actually want alcohol—it wants relief. When you're overwhelmed, exhausted, or anxious, your first instinct is to reach for something that changes how you feel. And if alcohol has been your go-to coping mechanism for years, of course your brain still thinks that's the solution. You might be here because: You still crave alcohol when stress hits, and it frustrates you. You're white-knuckling your sobriety and it still feels like a constant battle. You're overwhelmed and just want simple, doable ways to actually feel better. No matter where you are, you're in the right place. In this episode, I'm sharing the real strategy that helps you: ✅ Reduce alcohol cravings✅ Build emotional strength✅ Stay sober even when life feels hard✅ Stop using alcohol as your only stress relief This is the heart of emotional sobriety—managing stress before it manages you.
