In this episode of Louder Than A Riot, we ask what it means to speak up in a culture where it's always been safer to keep quiet. In 2006, Kim Osorio, then editor-in-chief of The Source, sued the magazine and its owners for workplace sexual harassment. Nearly two decades later, hip-hop still has not had a true reckoning around sexual misconduct. The Louder team talks with former Source writers who take us behind the scenes at the hip-hop bible and the circumstances that led to the suit. Activist Tarana Burke, creator of "Me Too," also reflects on how this case could have put hip-hop ahead of the curve on reckoning with misogynoir.

As parents, we have lost our cool on a number of occasions. Admittedly, I am a work in progress. There have been times when our children have tested our patience and respect. There are times when we get upset and lose our cool out of frustration without fully assessing the situation. In this episode my daughter was stranded four hours from home at a party she had no business. Angry isn't even the word I would use to describe my temperament. There was a lesson to be learned by everyone. Marc Azoulay is a psychotherapist in Boulder, CO that helps people uncover and destroy the unconscious barriers that cripple them. There's kind of like two types of aggression. So there's the kind of most common one, the outside aggression, which is kind of like the bully, the big loud guy. The guy who is like always fighting somebody. Then there's the one that I think is not talked about as much, which we've talked about on the podcast, which is like the nice guy. It's the guy who says yes to everything, the guy who makes accommodations for everybody, who is kind of always putting himself second, whose always sacrificing themselves.A man might feel like he's being noble, but underneath that is pure rage. When I talk to a lot of these guys I meet, there's a lot of resentment, a lot of anger, and a lot of just capacity for violence, honestly. And it's kind of something that's not talked about too much, which is that this type of guy, this nice guy, he's more likely to be the domestic violence offender or to be the person to engage in sexual assault, or the person who is emotionally abusive. www.marc-azoulay.comThis episode sponsor is www.getthisjuice.comSend questions or comments to tommydanger@gmail.comMusic: www.tommydanger.netTom Danger born Thomas Avance Brown is from Harlem New York. The core of Motivation and Confidence is from the foundation of Hip Hop. Mixtapes or the concept of the Mixtape are essential to music just as creating a Podcast for Business. 10 years ago we interviewed world-renowned DJ Kid Capri. He gave us insight on the inception of Mixtapes and working with one of the nicest emcees Big L. "When I was doing a mixtape it was supposed to have been an underground thing. It wasn't supposed to be for me to get this big notoriety. It got big for me, and it got to me where the next thing I had to do, but it wasn't supposed to be a thing where it was supposed to be so out there."DJ Kid CapriSend questions or comments to tommydanger@gmail.comMusic: www.tommydanger.netTom Danger born Thomas Avance Brown is from Harlem New York.
