He had seen advertisements for the job and jumped at the chance to go. He was aware of the differences between the two places, including the temperature. He had grown up in the Midwest and had worked in Alaska, but never experienced cold like when he first arrived at the South Pole. The conversation also touches on the recent cold snap in the US and how it was a good day in Antarctica. In this conversation, Wayne talks about a picture of them taken by Dr. Jeffrey Chan after a long walk in the cold. They talk about how they were wearing warm clothes and knew how to deal with the cold weather. White also mentions budding photographers down there who practice during the winter and how the biggest challenge was the batteries due to the cold. They mention a video taken for the Explorers Club in 2020 which doesn't have any outtakes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Gregory Shushan is the guest on the Malliard Report. He is the leading authority on near death experiences and afterlife across cultures and is the author of numerous books, including the most recent one, The Next World of Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife. Gregory and Jim are discussing Gregory's new book, The Next World: Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife. Gregory explains that his previous two books are published by Bloomsbury and Oxford University Press and are intended for an academic audience, which is why they come with a hefty $110 price tag. He wanted to write something more accessible and affordable for people interested in near-death experiences. His new book looks at the idea of the afterlife from different cultural and religious perspectives. It is both accessible in terms of academic language and affordable for readers. The narrator has always been interested in unusual phenomena and began exploring after reading a book called Phenomenon. During his first degree in Egyptian archeology, he noticed similarities between ancient Egyptian beliefs of the afterlife and near-death experiences, such as leaving one's body and entering a realm of light and meeting a being of light. He decided to pursue the subject and make his work accessible to a broader audience. The conversation discussed near-death experiences (NDEs) and how they are symbolically expressed in ancient cultures. It was mentioned that in ancient Egypt, the dead were associated with the god Osiris and that part of the afterlife journey involved encountering the corpse of Osiris in the other realm. This realization that the corpse is one and the same as the dead body on Earth is what allows the spirit to continue on to the afterlife. Contemporary NDEs involve the spirit rising out of the body and looking down to see their dead body lying there. This realization allows them to accept the reality of what is happening to them and accept their own death. Gregory then explains that the NDE is not the only way to explore the afterlife. He suggests that lucid dreaming, out-of-body experiences, astral projection, and other forms of non-ordinary consciousness can allow us to explore the next world. He also discusses the importance of integrating these experiences into one's daily life and how they can help to facilitate a deeper understanding of life and death. Finally, Jim and Gregory discussed the importance of looking at the afterlife from a spiritual perspective, and how it can help to provide comfort and understanding in our own lives. Almost 40 years ago, one of the fastest growing religions in Japan was officially established. Happy Science as it is known is rooted in the principle of doing good within the world. Happy Science Members focus on attaining enlightenment through activities such as daily self-reflections, giving love, and helping create a modern utopia. This week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes one of the key speakers of the movement Yoichi Utebi to the show to discuss the faith, his career as a producer, and much more. “Yoichi Utebi is a producer and world lecturer for Happy Science. Born in Japan in 1968, Utebi grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, and New York City. Raised in a rare Japanese Christian family, he was deeply touched by Muslim culture and the beauty of Lebanon during his formative years in Beirut. However, the Middle East also exposed Utebi to the horrors of war, as he and his family dodged bullets and bombings before fleeing to London and back to Japan, leaving everything behind in a sudden evacuation. In the 7th grade, Utebi moved to New York for 10 years, where he was exposed to friends from multiple cultures and ethnicities. His rock band produced a popular album and gained quite a following in the city before Utebi decided to forego his musical pursuits and return to Japan. After 12 years of experience in marketing and senior management at various American IT companies in Japan, Utebi joined Happy Science in 2010, where he quickly rose to Director of International Communications. Utebi is currently a minister and world lecturer for Happy Science and a producer on The Cherry Bushido.” This is a great episode and Yoichi's outlook is certainly infectious. The safety and security industry has got to be one of the most rapidly evolving and wildly varying industries around. Safety and security can be an incredibly broad term that covers everything from personal identity information to protecting information and data that is critical to national defense. From security cameras to data breaches, and everything in between, this week's guest on the Malliard Report is on the front lines of defense. This week Jim welcomes Steve Surfaro to the show to discuss the current state of security in the public sector, how the consumer sector is out pacing the commercial sector, and even how the paranormal field is driving advances in security. (It's the Malliard Report, of course there must be something paranormal worked in!) “With thirty years of security industry experience, Steve Surfaro is Axis Communications Industry Liaison and Chairman of the Security Industry Association's Public Safety Working Group. He is also Chairman of the ASIS Security Applied Sciences Council. A subject matter expert in physical and cyber security solutions, he has expanded nextgeneration video codecs, forensic video, predictive and prescriptive analytics, data science, IoT, smart cities, security automation and UAS, UGV systems. He is author of the Digital Video Handbook, a DHS S+T publication providing guidance for law enforcement, fire and other first responders. Steve is the recipient of the Roy N. Bordes Council Member Award of Excellence from ASIS International” This is a fun episode that takes a unique topic and makes it incredibly interesting. “Everything I know about love is taught by the people who really never loved me. We strive to be loved… we do… and we hope to be loved back but sometimes what we give is not returned in the same authentic way… so let's don't allow this to change our heart. Let's learn from it. "Woo Woo For Your Boo Hoo.” Psychic abilities have been long researched, tried, debated, and utilized for centuries. While many “academics” may be quick to write it off, the fact is that there is something to it. Why else would the CIA put so much time and money into conducting tests like remote viewing and OBE research? This week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes a guest that has jumped far into the deep end when it comes to this kind of stuff. This week Jim welcomes Julie Guthrie Smulson who happens to be a remote viewer, medium, channeler, healer, wearer of many other hats, and is here to discuss her incredibly busy life doing such.“Julie is an Author, Spiritual Healer & Podcaster. As an author Julie is passionate about sharing her lifetime and lifetimes of experiences with the world. Julie's intention in all that she does is to help others overcome their personal traumas and challenges so they can become happy and thriving individuals. Through Julie's own personal traumas and challenges she has been endowed with the gift of being a highly sensitive empath. Julie's empathic abilities allow her to help others through her business Spiritual Alchemy Energy Transfigurations as a Reiki Master/Teacher and Sound Healer. The current state of the nation is without a doubt, in one of the more volatile times in its history. No matter where you sit on the political spectrum, it is safe to say that things are not going well. Record high inflation, fuel prices, and overall costs of living plague the average American who already is more than likely buried under some other form of non-mortgage debt. (Student loans, medical expenses, et.al.) Pile that under civil discord, international unrest, and a handful of other headlines de ‘jour (take whatever flavor of fear mongering you want today) and you have a perfect recipe for a barn burner of an election. This week on The Malliard Report, Jim takes on the wild challenge of every first Tuesday of the month and opens the lines up for live calls. While there is always an element of surprise and unexpectedness, a live call show is always a favorite. While still the open forum of a live call show, this episode maintains a theme and theme centric discussion. The continual downward spiral of the current two-party system, and the implementation of a viable third party. Maybe something like a “Malliard Duck Party.” Could we make it a thing? Jim has already secured the domain name, so it must be real right?Live calls are always a great show, and the callers' insights are truly the best out there. Make sure you are not missing out on the action yourself. Join us every Tuesday in the Duck Pond live chat over on malliard.com, 9 P.M. EST. What seems to be a near monthly occurrence, the morning news highlights the latest in the billionaire's pissing contest, and we get to watch another rocket hurdle through the atmosphere. While the achievements are absolutely remarkable, and the fact that space travel has now become a “civilian's” game, it still sits in the “unobtainable” category for the average person. You, me, or any other Joe Schmoe can't really hedge any bets that we will be bolting ourselves into a seat, strapped to literal millions of pounds of thrust any time soon. Let alone be able to afford to do so. (Maybe you can, and I apologize for assuming otherwise) But what if there was an easier way? Something that could be done at the touch of a button, like…and elevator. Yes, and elevator to space. This week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes Neal Lachman. Neal is a disruptor in the space travel game, and he is here tonight to share those ideas.Neal has more than 32 years of business experience, including 26 years in finance and technology. He is a thoroughly experienced, energetic, and bold investor who is “cut from entrepreneurial cloth.” Neal is also a pragmatic and strategic planner with a long-term business philosophy. Neal is a telecoms pioneer and an outspoken entrepreneur; his opinion (often conveyed through White Papers since 2000) has earned him the respect from one part of the industry, as well as severe dislike from another part. Neal prides himself in having correctly called most of the telecom and technology trends and developments since 2000, often contrarian to commonly understood trends. This is a great episode, and Neal has a viewpoint that is unlike anything we really have seen on The Malliard Report to date. It's not often you get someone that has a firm grasp on the reality of space travel. You can follow the Space Industry Disruptor himself on Twitter @nealx1. Neal is a disruptor in the space travel game, and he is here tonight to share those ideas. Neal has more than 32 years of business experience, including 26 years in finance and technology. Our journey through life is difficult. There is no other way around it. We face challenges everyday from outside sources on a near constant basis; things we can control, things we can't, people that seem to have the soul purpose to just make our lives hell. Then there is our biggest critic that we stare down, wrestle with, and feel like we lose to constantly. Ourselves. Navigating our own hang-ups, spiritual challenges, and never ending critiques, we truly our own worst enemy. This week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes a guest who has a purpose to help those that may be lost on their journey, in addition to being a prolific medium, and a background dancer in a 70s musical that we love. This week Jim Welcomes Vincent Genna to the show. Acclaimed as the “truly authentic” gifted healer, Vincent is known for using his extraordinary gifts, academic credentials, and all-loving approach to embolden others to dive deep within to release their blocks and resistances and feel inspired and empowered! For almost four decades, Vincent has helped thousands of people around the world heal, unlock, and release their passions and purpose, and transform their lives through his inspiring and enlightening radio and television interviews, dynamic and powerful keynote presentations, workshops, training classes, and private sessions. Relatable, greatly compassionate, humorous, and a gifted mystic healer, Vincent offers his clients the opportunity for deep emotional healing, radical spiritual awakening, and the key to make everything they attempt work. Vincent certainly brings an energy to the show (and everywhere he goes) and makes for a great episode. If you would like to book a personal session, or attend a speaking event of Vincent's, head over to vincentgenna.com. You can also contact him through social media @vincent_genna_msw. What are the two things that we are told to never discuss at the dinner table? Especially with in-laws. Religion and Politics. With technology and the age of information that we live in, you would think that discussing ideas of those two categories would be lively, engaging, civilized. But we could not be any further from such a position. We fight and bicker over the most non-sensical, out of context bits, and try to claim the higher ground. This week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes a guest that dives headfirst into both topics regularly with his own Podcast “Talkin' Politics and Religion Without Killin' Each Other.” This week we sit down with Corey Nathan and discuss just that…religion and politics. Corey was raised in an observant Jewish household attending an Orthodox synagogue. His family is mostly from Brooklyn, New York, but Corey grew up in Jersey. In his late 20s, much to the family's chagrin, Corey became a born-again Christian. Not long after this epiphany, he began to find many of the default social and political positions of contemporary American Evangelicalism to be at odds with the very Scriptures that are supposed to be Christians' authority for how to engage in the world. If you are looking at diving into politics and religion without killing anyone, make sure to head over to Corey's podcast home politicsandreligion.us and give his show a listen. We get a dopamine rush when we see the social media notification that someone liked our content. We strain ourselves to our very max at our job to chase up proverbial ladders. We destroy small businesses because we want our product within 2 days or less. We throw fits because a coffee shop doesn't have our favorite flavor syrup. It is without question that we live in a “me centered” culture. What happens though when we take ourselves out of the equation and put the focus on others. We go that extra mile for someone. Well, this week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes Rabbi Manis Friedman to the show to discuss just such things. Rabbi Manis Friedman is a Hassid rabbi, author, social philosopher, and public speaker. He is also the dean of the Bais Chana Institute of Jewish Studies. Friedman authored Doesn't Anyone Blush Anymore?, which was published in 1990 and is currently in its fourth printing. In 1971, inspired by the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Friedman as a shaliach ("emissary") cofounded the Bais Chana Women International, an Institute for Jewish Studies in Minnesota for women with little or no formal Jewish education. Friedman has lectured in cities throughout the US, as well as London, Hong Kong, Cape Town, and Johannesburg in South Africa, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, and several South and Central American cities. Rabbi Manis is a fantastic speaker and guest. You can find him on YouTube and on his personal site itsgoodtoknow.org. In 1987 Michel Desmarquet stated that he was abducted by very kind and attractive, 8-foot tall, hermaphroditic, humanoid aliens and taken to their advanced planet. He was shown the function of the universe through a metaphysical form, in addition to how to correct our planets future path, and potential warnings if we do not. Quite a story to say the least, but the real question is how does this story, and a Chinese Court Interpreter have a common thread? Well this week's guest on The Malliard Report, was so moved by the Thiaoouba Prophecy, he set out on his own journey to follow in the path of Michel. This week Jim welcomes Samuel Chong. Samuel comes from Beijing, China. With a bachelor's degree in Economics from University of California, Berkeley, he also studied Economic History at London School of Economics and Political Science and Financial Analysis at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. A former instructor for the Court Interpreters Program at University of California, Los Angeles Extension Program, he specializes in translating legal and financial documents as well as interpreting as a certified court interpreter for patent and complex litigation cases involving companies located in the US, Japan, Taiwan, and mainland China. Samuel is also responsible for the Chinese publication of Michel's book, and the catalyst for his own journey. This is certainly an interesting episode, and Samuel and Michel's stories are incredible.
