This month's episode of Public Safety Thursday with Captain Warren Gosnell from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office featured an in-depth conversation about their K9 Unit. Captain Gosnell shared with host Janet Michael about the vital role these specialized officers and their canine partners play in public safety. He addresses the complex responsibilities and essential duties performed by the K9 unit. The discussion centered around the nuanced roles these canines play—from tracking and trailing to detecting illegal substances. Captain Gosnell elaborated on the types of dogs in the unit, mentioning Enzo the Dutch Shepherd, Milo the German Shepherd, and Blue the Bloodhound, among others. He emphasized the specialized training these dogs undergo and the ongoing commitment required from their handlers. For instance, Captain Gosnell shared an experience from a recent training exercise where a dog tracked a hidden handler across different terrains—grass, pavement, and more—demonstrating their impressive olfactory abilities. Training sessions are rigorous and continuous to ensure the dogs remain at the top of their game, especially when tasked with real-world emergencies. Janet and Goz joshed about the intricacies of their own pet care routines, drawing a parallel to the intense training and responsibility shouldered by K9 handlers. The hosts also discussed the emotional bonds that form between the handlers and their dogs, making it understandable why most handlers choose to adopt their partners upon the dogs' retirement. Captain Gosnell explained the master deputy ranking system and how these specially-trained deputies have accumulated years of experience and mastery in their field. Five of the six deputies in the unit have earned this prestigious title, highlighting their dedication and expertise. As the show wrapped up, Janet and Goz encouraged listeners to consider adopting or rescuing pets. Captain Gosnell lifted the mood by acknowledging the various officers and their respective canine partners, offering a heartfelt salute to their invaluable service to the community. The broadcast was a fascinating peek into the world of K9 units, their training, and the unyielding commitment of both the officers and their dogs to public safety. If you weren't already a fan of these four-legged heroes, today's enlightening discussion surely gave you paws for thought.

Somehow MAGA Chicago took an already horrific hate murder of two Jewish people and made it worse. Ben riffs. Jeff Jenkins talks about federal budget cuts that have threatened the Midnight Circus, which he stages in parks throughout Chicago. Why would Trump cut funding for a circus that brings laughter, joy and kindness to people? It's part of his mindless cuts to The National Endowment for the Arts. Also, Jeff talks about Canines for Kindness, his dog-rescue program. He brings rescued and rehabilitated dogs--many of whom had been trained to kill or be killed--into schools to show children there are other alternatives to hate and cruelty. Finally, a tribute to Bear, the family dog who died the other day. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. This week, the Junkies talk about the best pets in pop culture: the goodest boys, the bestest girls, the finest...fish? Whether furry, feathery or finned, animal characters in the media are often the most lovable and memorable. Shauna and Olivia discuss what makes a great on-screen critter. Cats, dogs or other? Animated or animatronic? Talking or mute? They list their favorites, including Garfield, who happens to both Junkies' spirit animal, and the pets they definitely wouldn't cuddle with, ever. The discussion then moves to famous real-life pets, and scandals like Lady Gaga's purloined pooches and the Kardashians' disappearing doggos. Ruh-roh! This episode takes you on a wild ride from the political firestorm over the deportation of "Saint Kilmour" — a Maryland father with alleged MS-13 ties — to a deeply personal and emotional story about the love we have for our dogs. First, we unpack the media hysteria and political theater surrounding sanctuary cities, immigration policy, and the controversial Laken Riley Act. Then, we shift gears as Tara shares the heartbreaking loss of her dog Sparkle and reacts to a viral video of a man saving his pup from a violent attack using an unconventional — and unforgettable — method. Raw, riveting, and unfiltered, this one has everything: outrage, heartbreak, and a reminder of what (and who) we fight for.
During my many years as a Fortean researcher & investigator, I have focused on creatures that most people would say belong on the pages of Grimm's Fairy Tales, Aesop's Fables, or maybe in animated films & cartoons. There are also tales of ancient dog-headed men who are unique to myth and legend. But, in more recent times, there are also accounts of human-like canines that are said to live and prosper among us. They are seen in many forms, both biped or quadruped. But the overwhelming question is, "What are they, and why do they exist?"Try to visualize what I'm about to describe to you. I will present the reports and incidents in detail and answer all questions from the chat room.Hi. My name is Lon Strickler. I hope that you enjoy listening to Phantoms & Monsters Personal Reports. I apologize for the dead air space, I am using a different recording platform that apparently does not like my taste in music :-) And, as you cat lovers can relate to, I had to attend to my cat's needs. :-) This episode explores the term "Treat Motivated" referencing common scientific studies to determine what this really means and if the focus on treat motivation means the study is missing some very important information about our dogs!Secondly, I use the example of a client of a student in the CCBT Diploma Program at the Institute of Canine Psychotherapy to discuss the challenges in using Conditioning Methods with dogs that are not "treat motivated"And, finally, is "treat motivated" an advantage when adopting a dog?Be sure to check out www.instituteofcaninepsychotherapy.com for info! Chris Thomson, DVM, DACVS-SA from Ethos Veterinary Health will discuss the Minimally Invasive Metastasectomy in Canines (MIMIC) clinical trial which will assess the feasibility and tolerability of VATS for lung metastasis and eventually deliver this care as an outpatient procedure. In addition to assessing the therapeutic benefit in canine patients, the study will also pave the way to conduct accelerated studies to identify new drugs to prevent lung metastases in both human and canine osteosarcoma. The hypothesis that a cross-species approach to metastasis biology and drug development will improve outcomes has been widely discussed and adopted but has not delivered on this promise. Better alignment with the OS pediatric and comparative oncology approaches is needed to understand metastasis biology and optimize drug development. Until now, metastasectomy has rarely been performed in veterinary medicine due to the perceived invasiveness of the procedure in older large-breed dogs. Nonetheless, hints of a benefit to canine OS metastasectomy patients exist.Ethos Discovery, a non-profit incubator of scientific innovation, seeks to evolve the existing perspective regarding OS metastasis in dogs and improve the translational approach via their MIMIC (Minimally Invasive Metastasectomy in Canines) trial to create alignment of the dog model with the OS patients of highest need, those with distant metastasis. In this discussion, Dr. Thomson shares their progress and review preliminary findings from the high-level evidence Ethos-MIMIC clinical trial which suggests that there is more hope for patients than initially thought.

Welcome to the final episode of 2024! 2025 is becoming the year to not simply demand more from industry leaders that have no interest in providing more, but rather, finding those solutions, stepping outside the comfort zone and putting one's own goals first! Does this sound selfish? Pet professionals cannot succeed in this industry by following mainstream, pleasing the industry, remaining loyal to leaders who are more concerned with their own success than that of dog trainers. Continuing to divide the industry and blaming pet parents drives away progress. Pet parents, having an allegiance only to their dog, family, and community expect more from their trainers, and pet professionals need to provide the solutions. When pet professionals empower themselves, they are better equipped to educate pet parents, and, in turn, the needs of dogs are met. The launch of the Institute of Canine Psychotherapy is much more than the launching of a one-of-a-kind institute - it represents the movement toward positioning pet parents and forward-thinking, brave, dog trainers as leaders in the canine behavior and animal welfare realms.Empower Yourself to Make An Impact. Hikers who complete all three hikes receive a prize; what makes Plano one of the best cities in the country to raise kids? For many it comes down to affordability, education, child care, family fun and socioeconomics. This year, personal finance company WalletHub ranked Plano the fourth best city in the country to raise a family; And if 2024 was the year inflation altered how often we dined in Dallas-Fort Worth, 2025 will be the year we take back our seat at the table. Hello, and welcome to another episode of A Friend for the Long Haul - A Long Covid Podcast! This week's guest is Ray, who most long haulers will know from TikTok and Instagram as @rayandstormi. Ray was one of the first long haulers I met when I made my original account back in Sept 2020. We've stayed in touch ever since, and I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to chat with her. Ray is a registered nurse and a dog trainer. In our conversation, we discuss her experience, including getting diagnosed with Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a chronic pain disorder that causes sudden, severe facial pain. It's also known as tic douloureux, Fothergill disease, or trifacial neuralgia.TN is a type of neuropathic pain that affects the trigeminal nerve, which is responsible for feeling and movement in the face, and is widely known to be one of the most painful conditions you can get. Ray shares the story of her brain surgery to help with TN, her long covid story, and we chat about being bendy friends (hypermobile/EDS). Since this episode was recorded, Ray has been hit by a number of setbacks - the most difficult being when her landlord decided to sell the townhouse she's been renting for almost a decade. Ray has been a pivotal member of the long covid community from the start, so I really want to bring awareness to the gofundme she created to help her while she faces housing insecurity after her brain surgery: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-ray-overcome-health-and-housing-crisis?attribution_id=sl:a483392d-3284-4f33-aa3e-22897038ef47&utm_campaign=man_ss_icons&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link If you'd rather provide mutual aid to Ray directly, here is her Venmo information: https://venmo.com/u/Rayandstormi I'm also selling a series of holiday tshirts on my Bonfire shop in honor of Ray, and proceeds will be shared with her: “Happy Paw-lidays! All shirts are available in long and short sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies.
