St. Paul had a female traveling companion but we never hear about her; women suffering at all times of their lives from menstrual cramps to menopause are told by untrained doctors that it's in their heads, and even when mice are the subjects of medical experiments, they are almost always male. Long accustomed to taking a back seat and suffering in silence, women are increasingly speaking up for better treatment at the hands of medicine. Two of them from different generations, Abby Lorch, a UAlbany student, and Liz Seegert, a long-time health journalist talk about what should be done — and their despair that Health Secretary RFK will do it.Abby Lorch is a 21-year-old UAlbany student graduating with a journalism degree and a law and philosophy minor. She plans to attend Albany Law School starting in fall 2025. She has always been interested in women's issues, and reporting on the university community and the Capital Region has given her insight into how these issues affect her neighbors.Liz Seegert is an award-winning, freelance journalist with more than 30 years experience writing for magazines, newspapers, radio and TV news, digital, PR, corporate, government, non-profit, and educational institutions. Her work has appeared in national, regional and local consume and trade outlets. She has done numerous fellowships with organizations such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the center for Health Policy and Media Engagement, and the Gerontological Society of America. She is active in the Journalism & Women Symposium and is an instructor at the Empire State College.

I had an absolute blast chatting with Miranda VonFricken, the founder of Own Your Awesome – a book series, podcast, and global movement helping women entrepreneurs shine a light on their awesomeness. What would you do if you got laid off from four different jobs in a row? If you're like Miranda, you might just decide you're done with corporate nonsense and it's time to forge your own path. Join us for a candid convo about the power of celebration, the importance of owning your identity, and why hustle culture is overblown BS. Can't-Miss Moments:I've never wanted a confetti cannon more: we brought out the bigguns from the get-go! Miranda shares why she has confetti cannons in her video background (and why my unplanned nap was something to celebrate)... Quintuple whammy: not only did Miranda get laid off from four consecutive jobs, she also lost her younger brother just before losing her last gig. Her story is a powerful lesson on letting go of what you "should" be doing...Out of context quote: "I don't care if I have to be poor for 3 years..."Evidence of awesomeness: turns out Miranda and I have a similar life philosophy, and we've both chosen THIS instead of letting our lives be dictated by head trash... One simple question Miranda recommends to quickly get yourself out of "stuck in the mud" and back into action...Miranda's bio:Miranda VonFricken; Founder of Own Your Awesome!™ A podcast, book series, and global movement attracting and expanding women at work, at home, and online! With over 15 years of leading teams to success in higher education, sales, and human resources, she stopped ignoring the call from her highest self and went “all in” on entrepreneurship. Cheryl Costa is a native and resident of upstate New York who saw her first UFO at age 12. A military veteran, she's a retired information security professional from the aerospace Industry. She's been a speaker at the International UFO Congress and at the MUFON Symposium. Cheryl writes the UFO column “New York Skies” for SyracuseNewTimes.com. Besides being a journalist, she's also a published playwright. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York at Empire State College in entertainment writing. UFO Sightings Desk Reference: United States of America 2001-2015 (2017) The first book of its kind, the UFO Sightings Desk Reference: United States of America 2001-2015 presents data and analysis for 100,000+ sightings of unidentified flying objects reported by individuals during the first 15 years of the 21st century. Since 1969 the government has claimed no interest in the subject, and the press and media either ignore or ridicule any mention of UFOs. Yet citizen scientists and non-governmental organizations have continued to this day the research into this important subject: this book seeks to make the hardest data available accessible to the general public, as well as other UFO researchers. The book is organized into beginning narrative sections including analysis of UFO sightings, frequently asked questions, and how to use this book, followed by the data. Charts, tables, and maps are presented of summary data for the entire US and individual chapters for all 50 states (down to the county level) plus the District of Columbia. Aimed at the serious UFO researcher, this comprehensive volume is also of value to academic and public libraries, news organizations, and anyone who is interested in what is flying in the skies over their heads where they live. As seen in the New York Times: "People Are Seeing U.F.O.s Everywhere, and This Book Proves It By RALPH BLUMENTHAL -- APRIL 24, 2017"

My name is Rainetta Jones, I was born in Port of Spain Trinidad and Tobago. I came to the United States at the age of 14 with my family. I attended Martin Luther King Jr. HS in Manhattan NYC. I would like to note that I do not have any memories of High School Lunch Break for three years. I graduated at 17 years of age and attended University of Buffalo. My tenure at UB was short lived due to serious neurological anomalies which I later learned was “Brain Scrambling Technologies. While at UB I wanted to pursue a degree in Micro and Molecular Biology; however, that didn't pan out. After Buffalo, I attended Sheffield University in England as a study abroad student. Upon returning to the US, I took time off to Invent, Model, and Dance. In 2000 I had a meeting with a “friend” about my two inventions, the iPod and Kindle and also a novel conceptual hosiery design. All of which were stolen. Later on I learned he had connections to Steve Jobs and was invited by him to the launch of iTunes in Cupertino California. After that meeting I was followed by a Russian Jew who befriended me. He invited me to go to England a couple of days after September 11th, 2001. It wasn't until 2016, I was told that both David and Yuri were Mossad agents and that they had to get me out of the US for the launch of the iPod. I later became a Certified Administrative Professional and worked at the United Nations and several other Government agencies in NYC. In 2019 I graduated from Empire State College in Business Administration. I have no memories of a Secret Space Program however, I do know that my life has been filled with extraterrestrial experiences. After graduation I created the Micro- Business Model using business concepts on a micro-scale for those who would like to start a business with very little money. Today I do spiritual consultations and teach online classes oncea month. My website is

The running joke is that UFOs are spotted most by backwoods people with aluminum cans and glass bottles that often start full and are empty. While this is a humorous anecdote, there is far more to the ideology and numbers behind UFO sightings, their frequency, and locations. This week's guest on The Malliard Report is an expert in that field. This week Jim welcomes to the show Cheryl Costa to speak on sightings, disclosure, and much more. Let's just hope an F-22 isn't involved….Cheryl Costa is a native and resident of upstate New York who saw her first UFO at age 12. In this episode Dr. Cooper speaks with Dr. Rhianna Rogers. Rhianna C. Rogers is the inaugural director of the Center to Advance Racial Equity Policy (CAREP) and a policy researcher at the RAND Corporation. Rogers is an expert on cultural and ethnic studies, intercultural competencies and diversity education, cultural mediation, and virtual exchange programmatic development and implementation. She was most recently an associate professor of interdisciplinary studies (history and anthropology) and the coordinator of the Global Indigenous Knowledge program at State University of New York (SUNY), Empire State College. Bio JACK Cambria I am a retired member of the New York City Police Department who has contributed 33 ½ years of exemplary service. My career took me from precinct uniform and plainclothes patrol in Brooklyn’s 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park, as a police officer, sergeant and lieutenant. I also served in the Emergency Service Unit (ESU) for 16 years, whose primary focus is to provide Rescue, Tactical, and Counter-Terrorism services to the City of New York. I had the good fortune to be assigned to ESU in the same three ranks. I have responded to and served on many high profile assignments such as both World Trade Center disasters, plane crashes, and a variety of hostage and barricade situations, particularly violent and suicidal individuals. I also served as a Rescue Team Manager on the FEMA-Urban Search and Rescue NY Task Force-1 during my time in ESU where I was deployed to Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maryland in 1995 and to the Atlanta Georgia Olympic Bombing in 1996. In 2001, I was selected to command the NYPD’s elite Hostage Negotiation Team. My duties consisted of coordinating the efforts of over 100 negotiators, who responded throughout New York City to all hostage and related assignments. I was responsible for the training and certification of all new negotiators and bi-annual refresher training of all current members of the team. I have conducted in-service training for many International, Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement agencies. In 2006, I, along with two personally selected members of my team, Detective Lydia Martinez and Detective James Shanahan, was dispatched to the U.S. Military Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to conduct hostage negotiation training for members of the United States Joint Task Force. We were also asked by the Commandant of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to conduct hostage negotiation training for the senior class of cadets, and we continued doing so for the past eight years prior to my retirement. During my time with the hostage team, I responded to well-over 5000 crisis assignments. Additionally, I have also served as a technical consultant in the entertainment industry, where I have advised on the major motion pictures, ‘The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3,’ ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,’ and ‘The Amazing Spiderman II;’ and, for the television series, ‘Life on Mars,’ ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Unforgettable,’ ‘Elementary,’ ‘The Mysteries of Laura,’ and 'The Breaks.' I have authored several scholarly articles on negotiations and have achieved a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. I have served as an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and at Empire State College, both in New York City. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support

UFOs Come Alive In Statistical Data | Cryptids and Sasquatch of New YorkAt the top of the show we take a moment to reflect and remember the great Stanton Friedman. In the first hour Gayle Beatty shares about her deep woods paranormal adventures, as well as local "harassment" by some strange creatures in NY state - including Bigfoot. In the second hour Sheryl Costa fascinatingly breaks down her analysis of 146,800 UFO sightings. She does so without bias and tells it like it is. What you thought you would expect from a comprehensive study of UFO sightings is stranger than you think, and defies common sense.FIRST HOUR GUEST:Gayle Beatty - is the mother of four and grew up on the base of Stising Mountain in the town of Pine Plains Ny. One night Gayle decided to go solo camping up behind her house. She was always a nature lover as well as a fisherman and Hunter and had spent countless hours on that mountain. She set up her tent just before dark and settled in for the night when she heard the sound of a large owl coming from a tree above. A few minutes later Gayle heard the most God Awful scream! It was so loud that it vibrated in her chest. She had never heard of Bigfoot and had no idea what kind of creature could make that sound. She managed to get up enough nerve to bolt out of her tent and down a steep ravine and get to the safety of my home. Years later Gayle was watching the show Finding Bigfoot on TV and heard that same frightening sound. She knew then what she had encountered. In January of 2011 Gayle started investigating the Bigfoot Phenomenon.SECOND HOUR GUEST:Cheryl Costa is an upstate New York resident and a NY native, who saw her first UFO at age twelve. She’s a veteran of two military services: Air Force and the Navy. She’s a retired Information Security professional from the Aerospace Industry. Since 2013, Cheryl has written the wildly popular UFO column “New York Skies” for SyracuseNewTimes.com. In March 2017, Cheryl and co-author Linda Miller Costa released their UFO Statistics book "UFO Sightings Desk Reference: United States of America 2001-2015." Their book presents data and analyzes trends for 121,000 USA UFO sighting reports between 2001 -2015. Cheryl was named “Researcher of the Year” at the 2018 International UFO Congress. As seen in the New York Times: "People Are Seeing U.F.O.s Everywhere, and This Book Proves It By RALPH BLUMENTHAL -- APRIL 24, 2017" https://www.syracusenewtimes.com/author/cheryl-costa/
Do your students create digital media in your courses or just consume it? Does the concept of information literacy seem too limited in this context? In this episode, Tom Mackey (Professor in the Department of Arts and Media at Empire State College) and Trudi Jacobson (Head of the Information Literacy Department and Distinguished Librarian at the State University of New York at Albany) join us to discuss metaliteracy as a framework for improving critical thinking and metacognition while students become active participants in the construction of knowledge in online communities.
