"Through Sunday rest, daily concerns and tasks can find their proper perspective: the material things about which we worry give way to spiritual values..."~ St. John Paul IISunday, the Lord's day, has a very particular purpose and call. But our world has diminished Sunday to look like any other day. How can Christians reclaim this part of their inheritance with reverence and rest on Sunday?Dr. Michael Naughton joins this episode of This Whole Life to explore the significance of reclaiming Sunday as a day of rest, celebration, and fulfillment of the commandment to keep the Sabbath holy. Dr. Naughton emphasizes the deep human need for rest and receptivity on the Lord's day, reflecting on the consequences of neglecting the Lord's day in his own family and work experiences. The conversation delves into the complexities involved in reframing and reclaiming Sundays. In a fallen world this is a messy project, but it's one that holds deep value for our wellbeing and for the health of our families. Join us as we explore the transformative power of honoring the Lord's day and unlocking the gifts that God desires to give us every Sunday.Dr. Michael Naughton is the director of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN where he holds the Koch Chair in Catholic Studies and is a full professor in the department of Catholic Studies. He also taught in the College of Business for over 20 years. Today, Hunter spoke with Patrick Crowley, Michael Naughton and Jonathan Sacks to talk through the attorney shortage crisis in rural America and what we can do to reverse the trend. While today's episode focuses a lot on what is happening in rural Michigan, make no mistake, this is a problem facing nearly every state in the country. As rural, small town America has declined over the past decades, it has become harder and harder to entice young public defenders, laden with outrageous student debt, to want to practice in the rural parts of a state. So what can be done? With this conversation, Hunter hopes to spark new conversations and solutions to a problem that is seemingly only getting worse as the years go by. Hey, are you a big football fan? I gotta admit, there's nothing like Sunday afternoon football after a long week at work or taking care of the household. We tend to fill our weekends with all the things we weren't able to get to during the week: sometimes it's deep-cleaning, sometimes it's an extra hour or two of work, sometimes it's staring at the TV for hours on end while binge-watching the latest Netflix special. But what are Sundays truly for? How might we begin to reclaim wasted time and pour those hours into meaningful connections with our families and friends? Here to help is Dr. Michael Naughton, director of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas.
This week on Family Policy Matters, we are re-airing a show from December 2019 with Dr. Michael Naughton, discussing his book, Getting Work Right: Labor and Leisure in a Fragmented World. Dr. Naughton shares how our culture often has a fundamental misunderstanding of “leisure” and how we need both work and leisure to live full lives.
This Wednesday, Salt & Light Radio presents our Catholic Business Series. There will be a breakfast in Boise and a luncheon in Twin Falls - information is on our website: www.SaltandLightRadio.com The keynote speaker joins Morning Light today - Dr. Michael Naughton!
On this episode, Chris hosts Dr. Michael Naughton professor of Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas and author of Getting Work Right: Labor and Leisure in a Fragmented World. They discuss 'leisure'....and no, they're not talking about polyester wide-lapeled suits from the 70's. Drawing from the definition articulated by the 20th century German Thomist Josef Pieper, leisure is "an attitude of the mind and a condition of the soul that fosters a capacity to perceive the reality of the world" as it truly is. Mischaracterized as "wasting time," it is fundamentally about being, not doing, in a way that our hearts and minds become more open to the good. At the core of leisure is Sunday, the Lord's Day. In order to get Monday right, Dr. Naughton argues, we must first get Sunday right. The conversation draws on Pieper's famous 1947 book, Leisure, the Basis of Culture.

This week, we're taking a deep dive into LEISURE, our fifth principle in the art of being human. It's not laziness or loafing or even just how we spend our free time. It's the deep interior stillness necessary for embracing reality rather than escaping it. In the words of Michael Naughton, “Leisure is an attitude of mind and a condition of the soul that fosters a capacity to receive the reality of the world.” If you're not yet a patron (or want your hands on Jimmy Mitchell's brand new book!), subscribe today: http://lovegoodacademy.com
Yesterday we finally got some details in relation to the future easing of restrictions from the government. All restrictions were due to have been lifted on Friday next, the so called ‘freedom day'. Wheras some restrictions will ease others won't and indeed there is still uncertainty in certain sectors in relation to what they can and indeed cannot do. On the Wednesday edition of North West Today we decided to speak to some business people to gage their reaction. Jo Daly from the Quay West Restaurant in Donegal Town. And Michael Naughton from the Clonree Hotel in Letterkenny joined John Lynch to discuss the further easing of the Covid-19 restrictions.
On this episode of Anchored, Jeremy and Arooba are joined by Dr. Michael Naughton, director of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Naughton discusses his expertise in Catholic Social Thought in relation to work, business, and organizational life. He explains how reading John Paul II's letter on human work helped him understand the theology of work in all areas of life, and bridge the gap between Catholicism and Business. He discusses that universities have become too focused on their external good rather than their internal good and how Catholic Studies can reform the nature of universities. He highlights that although it is important for students to find worthwhile careers, they must also grow intellectually through their love for education in order to understand the inherent goodness of those careers. Guest: Dr. Michael Naughton

Scott Kimball, portfolio manager of the BMO TCH Core Plus Bond Fund, says that there are some warning signs that the fixed-income market could be headed for trouble, including negative repurchase agreement rates between banks, which if they last long enough turn into 'an anvil dangling over credit markets' heads' and could lead to severe consequences in a matter of months. Also on the show, Michael Naughton of Lord, Abbett discusses the benefits of taking liquidity risk as a means of increasing yield, and how interval funds can help in that effort, Charles Rotblut of the American Association of Individual Investors discusses the current wave of optimism among investors, showing up in both bullish sentiment and in the heavy percentage of their assets being put into stocks, and Bill Kornitzer of the Aperture International Equity Fund talks international stocks in the Market Call.
Michael Naughton, chief operating officer for U.S. retail at Lord, Abbett and Co., says the interval-fund structure -- which limits shareholder redemptions -- has given managers of the Lord Abbett Credit Opportunities Fund the ability to pursue the firm's best ideas, including illiquid investments, and discusses how the liquidity risk of interval funds can balance out other risks faced by fixed-income investors in today's challenging interest-rate environment.
