Hitman for Hire: A year in the life of a franchise cricketer
COMING SOON: Bonus episode! David will be answering YOUR questions about the life of a franchise cricketer. Get in touch via the methods below. It's September 2023, and David has recently returned from playing for Northern Superchargers in English cricket's other short-form competition. The Hundred has provoked plenty of debate since its inception in 2021, so it was perhaps appropriate that - as well as looking back at his experience in the tournament itself - David gave a player's view on some of the issues surrounding the wider franchise game. On the agenda: how quickly the wheels can come off a campaign, the blame game, how players respond to a new format, building a team brand from scratch, quick maths in run chases, lifestyle vs. cash, friendly rivalry with the women's team, the dangers of a bad attitude, Hamilton in the West End, team BBQs, Tik Tok and the franchise bubble reaching bursting point. The Hundred's women start their tournament on 11 August 2022. Northern Superchargers will be feature in the first game against the defending champions. Key to their success will surely be their awesome top-order: Jemimah Rodrigues, Alyssa Healy, Laura Wolvaardt and Alice Davidson-Richards. But what kind of score will they need to post to help out a less star-studded bowling attack? This is The Hundred Club: a community for fans of short format cricket.
Tommy Stewart was at The Hundred match between Manchester Originals and Northern Superchargers with full press access. He tells the story step by step from getting into the ground, to sitting in the media box with Vithushan Ehantharajah (Vish), chatting to one of his best friends Jonny Gaymer and finally being pitch side post-match with skippers Jos Buttler and Fat du Plessis. Northern Superchargers Men won by 6 wickets as Manchester Originals set 161 (not 163 as Tommy kept saying).

The Hundred tournament starts on 3 August 2022, and it will start without Ben Stokes. He's pulled out of the tournament (as well as retiring from England ODIs) to balance his work load as the new Captain of England's test team. That is fair enough, but where does it leave the Northern Superchargers? Rich and Tom think it leaves the squad looking older and more patchy than most. Faf du Plessis had a great IPL 2022, but Dwayne Bravo, David Wiese and Wahab Riaz haven't been so hot. Maybe Adil Rashid can repeat his 2021 heroics and become the difference? This is The Hundred Club: a community for fans of short format cricket.

Taylor Williams talks with Western Storm, Welsh Fire and Cornwall's own Nicole Harvey. 12 or so months ago — while 32 weeks pregnant with her first child — Nicole was diagnosed with sepsis, which proved severe and life-threatening. Earlier this year she was just beginning to walk again and playing cricket at any level — let alone professionally — was still a distant pipedream. Fast forward several months to July '21 and Nicole's walking out at Emerald Headingley to take on the Northern Superchargers in the inaugural Hundred tournament. Hers is a truly remarkable story of courage, determination and fortitude. Nicole also takes us inside the Welsh Fire camp, revealing the challenges of bio-secure living and getting to grips with a brand-new format — all while being a mum and managing post-sepsis syndrome. As usual, we discuss the best players Nicole's played with and against, and the best things about playing cricket in and for Cornwall.
