The Buddha counsels a grieving mother unable to come to terms with her son's death to visit her neighbors door-to-door, and to collect a mustard seed from each household untouched by death. By the evening, her empty hands and new understanding enable the grieving mother to bury her son and become a disciple of the Buddha. The Lily Pad Sutra We'll cherish this interview with our dear friend, the lovely Scott Johnson. We do try to find parallels with our guests, of course, as a regular listener - you know. And, certainly we explored misspent youths, broken childhoods, and our inevitable slide down a windy road that eventually turns into a spiritual path. Scott is a sensitive soul. His gentle, compassionate, kind energy is transmitted not only through his teaching style, but you'll feel it in the way he speaks. The space we enter around him is saturated with loving kindness. And yet.. some things are not so easy to share. It goes without saying that we all have experienced loss to some degree or another. To be sure, we would give up quite soon if we were tasked with looking for our own mustard seeds. Loss is inevitable. Still, the passing of a dear friend, a joyously beautiful spirit, like Scott's partner Ozge, is soul tearing, and spirit breaking. It's quite hard to find common ground there. Even if we have experienced the loss of close friends ourselves. Each experience of loss is so unique. That said, we're grateful to Scott for sharing his story, his friendship, his wisdom, and his time with us. Somehow we came away encouraged about our community and the transformative power of the Ashtanga yoga practice. We hope you enjoy this episode and find your own sense of encouragement, hope, and healing through absorbing and also integrating a new approach to your breath and movement practice. Afiyet olsun. İyi dinlemeler! -- In our previous episodes, we've had the chance to talk with amazing people who are leaders in their professions, have the answers we seek, and ask what we were curious about. In this episode, Ozge and Belkis, the founding partners of our restaurant and the podcast hosts, talk all things related to plant-based cheese! From dairy-free vegan cheeses that we come across even on supermarket shelves to artisanal hand-crafted cheeses, Ozge and Belkis talk about the plant-based cheese queendom, from the brands they have tried in Turkey and in different countries, to the differences between them, and even share a recipe to keep up your sleeve! Lastly, here is Belkis' recipe for an easy plant-based cheese dish recipe, you can add in roasted veggies, pea protein/lentil bolognese, sautéed spinach/kale/chard, the sky's the limit, this is just a super basic starter recipe! 2 Boxes of Silken Tofu 1 Cup Raw Cashews 2 Cloves Garlic 1 Tsp Salt 1 Jar Tomato Sauce (600-700gr) 1 Box of Vegan Lasagna Blend tofu, cashews, garlic and salt to prepare the tofu ricotta. Instabase's Ozge Ozcan believes that many women have been fed a false story about motherhood: That it can be seen as a “decelerator” to one's career. Instead, she's found that raising two daughters has made her more competent in the chaotic, fast-paced world of early-stage startups. Through this experience, she's had to learn how to be an “amazing leader” at home and in the office. In this episode, Ozge and Joubin talk about her experience as an immigrant to the US from Turkey; the surprises she encountered taking her first real job at a then-much smaller MongoDB; how she's learned to prioritize family over work, or vice versa; the challenges of running a customer success team; and how she has been able to hire more than 60 people in only a year at Instabase. In this episode, we cover: The dualities of Ozge's home country, Turkey, and how she learned English (05:12) Wrestling with guilt in all aspects of her life, and raising two daughters with her husband (09:35) Understanding your triggers before burnout takes hold, and the dark side of grit (14:48) Working at MongoDB, “there was so much emphasis” on feeling (22:18) Spotting and fixing broken processes in enterprise tech, and when to apply old-school problem-solving (26:15) A common misconception about how pregnancy and motherhood affect women's ability to thrive at work (35:03) What Instabase does and why Ozge decided to join another early-stage company (37:18) The importance of metrics for customer success (41:00) Recruiting for CS teams and the non-negotiable skill Ozge looks for: A high tolerance for ambiguity (44:18) What she says when startup founders ask, “How do I set up a CS team?” (50:01) Links: Connect with Ozge LinkedIn Email: ozge.ozcan@instabase.com Connect with Joubin Twitter LinkedIn Email: grit@kleinerperkins.com Learn more about Kleiner Perkins

(English below.) -- On this episode of Bi Nevi Deli the podcast, Belkıs and Ozge share their past and their journey together as they established the BND kitchen and its philosophy around plant-based eating. Coincidence proved itself to be synchronicity; as the duo started searching for better answers for better questions, they met one another and became friends. What started with asking questions, as a means of self-discovery and a sense of purpose led the founders, self proclaimed “life long students”, to come together and start this journey. This episode is built around the story behind the current location and how the first kitchen lead the way towards it, the founder's growth with their customers and suppliers, the thought that was put into the philosophy of the kitchen. The hosts also give insights about the business and advice to the ones who wish to follow a path towards plant-based culinary world. Answering “Why plant-based? Why now?”, highlighting transparency and sustainability; Ozge and Belkıs' approach to it all is taking one step at a time, everyday. This first episode is also an example of this view, it's a starting point that will take us further with every interaction.

An Amazing AI Journey Our conversation with Ozge Yeloglu, Lead Data Scientist at Microsoft Canada Ozge Yeloglu has had to work hard to get to where she is today. From a young age in Turkey, she had a keen interest in computers, despite not having access to one at home. But that didn’t stop her from following her passion. In 1999, when she began her computer science degree, she still didn’t own a computer (or even know what a floppy disk was), but she persevered. As an undergraduate, she struggled to find an outlet for her love of programming and computing technology, but a pivotal moment came in 2004 when a professor handed her a book on neural networks. That single gesture started Ozge on a journey that would eventually see her leading the data and AI teams for one of biggest players in Canadian technology. In 2016, Ozge was hired as the first data scientist at Microsoft Canada with a focus on building analytics solutions for some of the biggest financial services companies in the country. In just over two years, she has expanded the team to 11 members and continues to work on changing the technology landscape for enterprise customers, while being the voice of AI at Microsoft Canada. Tune in to this episode as host Jaxson Khan (Nudge AI) learns more about Ozge's fascinating journey and her unique perspectives on artificial intelligence.

Ozge Akbulut is a real life Dr. Who – scientist, academic and entrepreneur. A Harvard and MIT engineering graduate, Ozge uses her research and experience to build businesses that solve global problems. For example, as 1 in 8 women globally will get breast cancer - Ozge has built a company called Surgitate that makes breast models to train surgeons in mastectomy. When she realised how much manufacturing cement pollutes the environment, she sought out ways to improve that and create sustainable solutions. In this episode we talked about being super-nerds, doing scientific research that improves lives and starting a business with the right partners and backers. So if you have a background in science, academia or entrepreneurship - or an interest in solving big global problems and instilling that curiosity in others - this episode is for you! We also touched on gender parity at Turkey’s Sabanci University... About 50% of the material science students are women; and even more impressive is the gender split of the university teaching faculty: 50% female! One of the highest in Europe. If you would like to get in touch with Ozge or learn more about her work, please visit www.ozgeakbulut.com or find her on Twitter @matist_ozge. A huge thank you to Naseba for making this interview possible.
