In this episode, Jim James speaks with Paul Meyers, a coach, mentor, VC, and investor with 20 years of experience in the startup industry. Meyers highlights that the media portrays founding a startup as something glamorous and successful, but in reality, it's emotional and can lead to mental health problems for founders. Meyers suggests normalizing discussions around mental health and creating safe spaces for founders to talk about their fears and challenges.Meyers also discusses why males are less likely to approach mental health coaches than females, due to societal expectations of appearing strong and competent. He notes that the stress of being a founder can lead to unhealthy behaviors and a loss of empathy. Meyers suggests that displaying empathy and normalizing conversations around mental health can help founders recognize the symptoms of stress and address them before it becomes too late.Post-production, transcript and show notes by XCD Virtual Assistants Support the showAm I adding value to you?If so - I'd like to ask you to support the show.In return, I will continue to bring massive value with two weekly shows, up to 3 hours per month of brilliant conversations and insights.Monthly subscriptions start at $3 per month. Creating visual stories that breaks down complex concepts and information into simple, easy-to-follow videos can’t be done by just anyone, right? Or can it? In this episode we’re talking about how today’s technology is enabling individuals to take complex information and concepts and break them into simple, digestible stories your employees will watch. How is that possible? Well, when you combine a repeatable, guided system that guides your expert through the process and combine that with artificial intelligence that analyzes the narrative and automatically chooses and times visuals that tell a compelling story, you have a tool that can rapidly create content that keeps up with the pace of work. My guest this episode is serial entrepreneur, tech optimist, venture capitalist, and long time friend, Paul Meyers. WI first met Paul in 1997. He sat behind a custom-built desk-top terminal with plans to deliver cable-TV news across high-speed networks. Real-time news at your fingertips. Can you imagine? It was a revolutionary idea at the time. Today, its yesterday’s news. Paul has spent nearly 30 years operating in Asia, first as a film-maker then as a pioneer in the interactive and mobile space. He’s a serial entrepreneur who in recent years has turned his attention to vetting, advising and funding start-ups from Indonesia to Bangladesh. Paul’s CV reads like an Alice in Wonderland journey through the early years of what we then called the interactive movement. It’s a mind-bending experience to explore all that Paul has witnessed.
The Visalia Ransackings, a crime spree that started as a series of break-ins and burglaries in 1974, and escalated to murder in late 1975, was not originally believed by many in law enforcement to be an early incarnation of the Golden State Killer. Retired Contra Costa County Chief Investigator Paul Holes was initially a non-believer, but he publicly changed his mind on the theory, and explains why. Exeter Sun owner and publisher, Reggie Ellis, and Editor-In-Chief, Paul Meyers believed the connection from the beginning and share the research they uncovered to support it. And "Unmasking A Killer" Supervising Producer, Todd Lindsey, also believed GSK and the Ransacker to be one and the same, and weighs in on why there was never a doubt in his mind that the ransackings served as the training ground for alleged GSK suspect, Joseph DeAngelo.
Any mention of Singapore and business has to take into account the policies of the Singaporean government. In the case of entrepreneurs, the government has taken its foot off the brake and is stepping firmly on the gas. Business Class spoke with Paul Meyers of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on the shifts that now make Singapore the entrepreneurial center of SE Asia. Meyers is a serial entrepreneur and has been working on the digital transformation of SE Asia since the late 90’s. Now, as an adviser on early stage investment for the Asian Development Bank, he is seeing changes take hold. He notes that the government’s decision to make things easy for both start-ups and investors, attracts companies and investment from around the globe. He feels that being the “go-to location” for entrepreneurs in SE Asia, “is a way to keep Singapore relevant.’

Paul Meyers is currently the Head of the Southeast Asian business for muru-D, which is impressive in and of itself. But there is so much more to his story. After moving out to San Francisco post college and building his eponymous media and production company, Paul travelled to Asia in 1995 and has remained ever since. His experience in building and running media properties included animation, live streaming television, music and listing a company on Nasdaq. Paul has worked with or built some of the most well known brands and media properties in the the world. His involvement as a business founder, builder, mentor and advisor is substantial and makes him insanely qualified to lead one of the most forward thinking accelerators in Southeast Asia.
In this episode, Paul Meyers, a former state department of education consultant, former president of the California Association of School Counselors and current school superintendent, offers his thoughts on the nomination of Betsy Devos to the U.S. Department of Education and its potential impact for school counselors.

In this episode, we discuss the rock-and-roll tribute band phenomenon with John Paul Meyers, whose article “Still Like That Old Time Rock and Roll,” was published in the Winter 2015 issue of the journal, Ethnomusicology. Meyers explains tribute bands as a case study for exploring the active role historical consciousness plays in shaping listeners’ engagement with popular music. By reviving the sounds—and sights—of a previous generation, tribute band concerts serve to establish historical narratives within popular music culture. John Paul Meyers is a visiting assistant professor of African-American Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
