Picture, if you will, a cottage with roses around the door, and a stable block nearby with a glorious arena and paddocks adjacent. It's the stuff that equestrian dreams are made of… especially if the paddocks poo pick themselves and the stables muck themselves out! Our guest on today's pod is a lady that makes the dream of having horses at home a reality for many. Based in the Surrey Hills, our guest has spent over 25 years in the property market, with a specialism in the equestrian property market. Joining us today to tell us how she married a career in property and her love of horses together is Katherine Watters. Meet the Kirsty Allsop of the equestrian property world and find out more about which discipline is the most demanding on their property wish list! His name is Maximus Decimus Meridius... No, it's not - it's Edward Creamer and he is our very special guest on today's episode of Pole, Piaffe & Prosecco. Why the Gladiator link? Stunt rider Ed has run a training yard and competed at Grand Prix, but when it became difficult to turn a profit running a yard, he diversified. Although he still trains, rides and teaches, he has turned his skill set to the silver screen, riding in films like Gladiator 2. He also performs in live shows to demonstrate jousting and skills at arms. Tania and Katie loved chatting to Ed and we hope you enjoy hearing about life as a stunt rider! Well done for surviving March, team, and it is now officially spring! This month on the pod we are looking at alternative careers within the equestrian industry. Much as over recent years television coverage of equestrian sports has dwindled, with the advent of multi channel subscriptions, you can now watch online or through designated satellite channels, and our guest today is the man behind the camera. Harry Sykes wears many hats. He is a videographer, a social media manager, a marketing expert and an executive producer for equestrian programmes and he joins us to talk about his love of horse sports and the business he has developed. In this episode of The Horsemanship Breakthroughs Podcast, I'm joined by the incredible Kelly de Geus: an amazing horsewoman known for her ability to train horses the piaffe in a light, soft, willing, biomechanically correct way. Kelly de Geus is a dedicated horse trainer and coach from the Netherlands, who has been captivated by horses for as long as she can remember. For over a decade, Kelly's main focus has been on training horses herself, developing a specialty in teaching horses to piaffe and passage in hand. This is always a result of optimal communication and body use, and never a quick fix or trick. Having trained over 1000 horses in hand, Kelly now primarily focuses on sharing the knowledge she gained by doing so, thereby helping more people (and, in turn, more horses) feel better, improve posture and optimise performance. I first reached out to Kelly for online lessons years ago after being mesmerised by how light and happy her horses looked in the piaffe. At the time, she didn't have online resources, but she agreed to help me through online lessons and I was blown away by her approach. She taught me that that piaffe is reflection of correct basics, and that there are a sequence of things that need to be in place before the piaffe is possible. Her values in training horses align closely to my own so I am so happy to share her voice with the horse world. In this episode, we cover: ✨ The true purpose of piaffe as a diagnostic and gymnastic exercise (it's more than just fancy footwork and it's not a ‘circus trick'!) ✨The importance of conncection, communication, & biomechanics ✨ Common mistakes & how to know if your horse is ready to start training the piaffe ✨ The groundwork that sets the foundation for collection ✨ Adjusting her training approach to different horses ✨The role of positive reinforcement in her training ✨Plus so much more! If you've ever dreamed of training the piaffe, this is THE episode for you!

In the Tempest, William Shakespeare wrote: “"I would not wish any companion in the world but you”, and this week we ask our non-horsey partners, Matt and Lisa, if that really is true. It's the last episode in our 'Love Month' on Poles, Piaffe & Prosecco, and we bravely take the step of introducing our other halves and asking the question that we're not sure we want to know the answer to: What is it really like to have a relationship with an equestrian? Find out their response to this, and other soul searching questions. Nachdem wir die Basics in Folge 57 abgearbeitet haben, widmen wir uns in dieser Folge den Seitengängen wie Schulterherein, Renvers, oder Travers aber auch Lektionenwie der Piaffe oder der Schrittpirouette. Alles Fremdwörter für dich, oder du und dein Pferd seid einfach noch nicht so weit? Kein Problem, die Folge eignet sich auch sehr gut dazu, sich einfach nur in der Theorie weiterzubilden. Welcome to the month of love on the pod, love birds! Not many people have a perfect work life balance, and there are even fewer that have a perfect horse life balance. Our love for our hooved friends is pretty all consuming, and if you keep your horses at home or on DIY, the hours required to meet their needs are pretty full on. And even if they're on full livery, there are still all of those hours that you need to spend kissing their nose and floofing their mane. Consequently, our human loves can get a trifle annoyed with us, and trying to manage a relationship alongside a great passion can be a challenge. Joining us on this episode to help you steer your human relationships into calmer water is a lady that has heard it all. Jill Corbey is a qualified psychotherapist with experience in hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamics and today, she answers your relationship dilemmas. From jealous partners, to ticking biological clocks to managing the grief of losing your horse, Jill's advice is relevant to us all. She also has a really beautiful accent that makes you just feel..... calm. Need some help from Jill? You can find her here: https://www.meadowswellbeing.com/jill-corbey. Today is the last episode in our month of travel - and what a month it has been. From the exhilarating Mongolian Derby, to travelling the world with Zara's Planet and Pedens plus, we've been on safari too. We've been busy! But we're not done yet. This week, we are looking closer to home to a venue that you can take your horse on holiday with you. Nestled deep into the South Downs with all its very beautiful hacking, is Westerlands Farm. It sounds quaint, doesn't it? But what Westerlands have developed on their land is truly unique and the business has such a diverse offering, we just knew that you would be interested. It is a working farm with a commitment to biodiversity and regenerative farming, they offer farm stays in a mixture of accommodations, which we will talk about a bit later. They have a small trekking centre and an equestrian wellness division. There's fitness classes, cycling, art, and foraging all on offer, along with a packed calendar of events. But, most importantly, your horse can go with you. Find out what taking your horse on holiday entails, and all that Westerlands offers. Ghengis Khan said: “It's easy to conquer the world from the back of a horse”, before setting up a postal transmission system in 1224 that saw communications taken on horseback from the Mongolian capital to the Caspian sea. This method of communication continued right into the 1950s, and it is based on this route that a trip labelled as ‘The greatest equine adventure in the world' is based on, and it is called the Mongolian Derby, and in this episode we will find out all about it. Journalist Camilla Swift has ridden most of her life, and has been lucky enough to ride at courses including Ascot, Aintree, Windsor, and over the Derby course at Epsom. But, perhaps the most exciting course to have ridden is that of the Mongol Derby, and in this episode Camilla shares her experience of riding 100km a day over mixed terrain in a race chosen by the horse, what it's like to stay with mongolians in yurts and what fermented mares milk really tastes like! Hakuna matata, dear listeners, we are going on safari in today's episode! For many of us the idea of a safari on horseback is a bucket list item. The idea of cantering alongside giraffes, or seeing the big five from the quiet of a horse is the stuff that dreams are made of, and our guests today bring that dream to life. In 1998, today's guest bought a farm in South Africa, with the intention of offering short rides around a local reserves. She and her partner quickly grew a reputation for excellent riding on well schooled horses, and their initial herd of seven horses grew to 33. Offering three different safari packages, the team has also grown and, today, telling us about life on a farm that focuses on offering horse back safaris is Gerti, the owner of Wait A Little safaris in South Africa, and Clare, the centre's manager. Close your eyes and travel with us... we can almost taste the sundowners! Last time, we met Jill and Zara from Zara's planet, and we've spent the past week dreaming of sunshine, sangria and sparkling ponies. This week, we're looking at the travel of horses themselves, and we don't mean those just hopping across the channel. How do top competition horses arrive safely and ready to perform at international events, like the Olympics for example? Our guest today is Henry Bullen from Pedens. Pedens transport horses of all value all over the world. We find out what first class, business and economy travel looks like for horses and the logistics behind it. Henry was a fascinating guest and we hope you enjoy the episode. Tania answers more of your training questions and Katie has a gin taste test. It's a known fact that January is the longest month of the year. It's cold, it's dark, it's usually wet and we're always broke. It's no fun. Now, we could immerse ourselves in the gloom, but here at Poles, Piaffe and Prosecco HQ, we say no. We are refusing to succumb to the winter grizzles, and this month we are bringing the sunshine to you. It's travel month on Poles, Piaffe and Prosecco!Joining us in this episode are two ladies that specialise in chasing the blues away and when I say that've nailed the perfect career, they. Have. Nailed. It. They met as children in Scotland, where they were both under the tutelage of show producer, Jill Cousens. They grew up learning to ride together, and even spent a gap year grooming for show jumpers in Belgium. As life and corporate jobs took over, three things remained: their strong friendship, their love of horses and their love of travel. And the story doesn't end there. As corporate roles lost their dazzle, a new business was borne - one that centres on those three important factors. Find out how Zara Stassin and Jill Dolan from leading equestrian travel company, Zara's Planet, have made a career out of horses and travel, and listen to details of the amazing breaks they offer. You can almost feel the sunshine! Tania talks about goal setting and spooky horses, and our drink is Champagne Tattinger. Wowzers, what a fabulous time we had recording the pod live at the London International Horse Show on the Live Zone stage! We loved talking with Robert Le Mieux about how he has turned tack rooms from a dreary sea of black and white to a multicoloured treat, and we very much enjoyed our visit from the Tack Room Distillery's owner Tim, who shared a fabulous gin with us. Answering your questions live was truly special, too. While the sound is a little compromised, the training tips are not and we hope you enjoy this special episode.
