"Yeoman on the Bridge" With Leslie Hudson. Star Trek has inspired many people in many different ways. It has inspired people to write stories, paint, and write songs. Leslie Hudson, a Canadian singer and song writer, describes herself as a powerhouse at the mic, and a person who can cut through a crowd of sound with a caress. With eight solo albums under her belt her songs span more than 25 years of writing every genre from rock to geek to faerie and demonstrate not only her versatility as a musician but her refusal to be contained. In this episode of Melodic Treks, host Brandon-Shea Mutala is joined by singer/songwriter Leslie Hudson, to discuss her new album of Star Trek inspired songs called "Yeoman on the Bridge." We also discuss her album "The Redhead League," red-headed characters in pop culture, how song writing has changed, and CBC television. Chapters Opening (00:00:00)  Welcome, Leslie! You learned the rules of defensive tools so that no one would get hurt You learned to breathe and you learn to squeeze till your aim was always true And you made the right of passage, man, with your first real .22. And now the New World Order crew, well, they're making their demands They don't feel safe if you are armed. You say, "Gun control...is using both hands". The Founders knew the 2nd Amendment was the final one to keep to hold our other rights intact so we'd never become sheep. Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Amin and Pol Pot, they told us things that you never forgot You teach the lessons to your daughters and sons, to fear the government that fears your guns! And now the New World Order crew, well, they're making their demands They don't feel safe if you are armed. You say, "Gun control...is using both hands". Well I prefer the .308 to the tiny .223 It gives me more than a thousand yards to protect my family! And now the New World Order crew, well, they're making their demands They can pass 100 laws, but we still won't give a damn. All our enemies, they know the deal, if they try to take this land They have no chance if we keep saying, "Gun control...is using both hands". Stand ©2006, Matthew Fitzgibbons I wonder if you share my passion to help patriot's unite, to learn what we've forgotten, to protect the Bill of Rights While some say we should trade freedom for safety in these times, some betray us in the courtrooms, and rule saying "God" is a crime. What can I do? What can I say? How can I help us understand the price we'll pay If we don't stand today. Most of the world would like to see us fall and tell us how to live. With all their help from their friends inside to steal, what we won't give. Guard your guns like the Founders warned and keep the Constitution clear. Learn to use both instinctively and fear. And fear. What can I do? What can I say? How can I help us understand the price we'll pay If you don't stand today... Today!

In this episode of the Revolution Rock and Roll Podcast, we explore the sounds of the "Sons Of Liberty". SOL is Jon Sheaffer's alter-ego patriot metal project. Scheaffer comes from the world famous "Iced Earth" and is truly a master metal guitar player. Not only that, he is a dedicated U.S. historian.  Even if you are not a metal fan, the content of his lyrics might just win you over. It's Iron Maiden meets George Washington...and it will make your ears bleed with patriot enthusiasm. One of the songs reviewed is called "Tree of Liberty". The lyrics took me down the wormhole which end with the reading of the original letter by Thomas Jefferson that contains this famous quote that so many of you have in your sig lines.   Show Notes: RRR Update            -  Sales revenue $150.00!            -  First musicians paid!            -  First donation coming up - anti UN Small Arms Treaty support            -  Adding Right Arm of Wyoming to compilation (and info about a bug in the store regarding the sample section) Music            -  Sons of Liberty (Jon Sheaffer) from Iced Earth            -  Album "Brush Fires of the Mind"            -  Read letter from Thomas Jefferson to William Smith containing "Tree of Liberty" quote                   -  Read lyrics from "Feeling Helpless"            -  Played "Feeling Helpless" start to finish Links            -  Sons of Liberty            -  Iced Earth            -  UN Office for Disarmament Affairs

Sounding Eagles-like out in 2 weeks Hope to have Kevin Myers in studio next week Sweet new guitar Music: “Liberty Song” One of the first protest songs by John Dickenson Published in 1768 in response to more taxes levied on the colonists (Townshend Acts of 1767). To the tune of “Heart of Oak” (anthem of the Royal Navy) and “Here’s a Health” (irish ) First appearance of “United we Stand, Divided we Fall” Reference to “Liberty” is to John Hancocks ship “The Liberty” which was seized by the authorities for smuggling. That led to a suspension of English imports by Boston Merchants in 1768. "Liberty Song" by John Dickinson Come, join hand in hand, brave Americans all! And rouse your bold hearts at fair Liberty's call; No tyrannous acts shall suppress your just claim, Or stain with dishonor America's name. Chorus: In freedom we're born, and in freedom we'll live! Our purses are ready, Steady, friends, steady; Not as slaves, but as free men, our money we'll give. How sweet are the labors that freemen endure, That they shall enjoy all the profit, secure, No more such sweet labors Americans know, If Britons shall reap what Americans sow. Then join hand in hand brave Americans all, By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall; In so righteous a cause let us hope to succeed, For Heaven approves of each generous deed.
