On today's show is Garrett Dutton, better known to you and me as G. Love and his band G. Love and Special Sauce.G. Love appeared on my radar in the early 90's when I was just getting into playing in bands. Originally from Philadelphia, but breaking out of the Boston music scene, Special Sauce's debut album was pretty massive in my world. It mixed blues, soul, rap and hip hop in an organic way that no one else was doing. Garrett was influenced by everyone from John Hammond to Lightning hopkins and Muddy Waters, The Beatles to the Beastie Boys and Schoolly D and he's one of the few people that can convincingly meld those influences into cohesive music. He got into playing guitar at a really young age, learning Beatles tunes, and eventually found his way to Bob Dylan, which led to playing harmonica, which led to John Hammond, who opened the musical floodgates for him.He moved to Boston in the early 90's and started playing around Cambridge with his band that included Jimmy Jazz on bass, and Jeffrey Clemens on drums, who made up the perfect rhythm section for the music they were making. The band came to be known as G. Love and Special Sauce, and their debut album, just called “G. Love and Special Sauce” which came out in 1994 is a killer. I saw them a few times around them and they put on an amazing show. Their latest album, produced by Luther Dickinson, is called “Philadelphia Mississippi” and came out in '22. Lately, Special Sauce has been doing some shows commemorating 30 years since their debut album came out.Garrett and I had a great conversation, and I'm thrilled that he found his way back to his hotel that day! Este domingo se llevaron a cabo las elecciones municipales para el Ayuntamiento de Vitoria y las Juntas Generales de Álava. En una jornada llena de sorpresas, EH Bildu ha sido la fuerza política más votada en Vitoria, mientras que la abstención ha alcanzado cifras máximas. Por su parte, en el caso de las Juntas Generales, tanto el PNV como el PSE-EE han perdido la mayoría electoral que habían mantenido en los últimos años. En un escenario político vitoriano que ha experimentado un giro inesperado, situando al PNV en la cuarta posición, los equipos de GasteizBerri y Radio Siberia se han unido para preparar un programa especial en directo. El programa, presentado por Jon Larreategi y Alex García, ha contado con la participación del politólogo Mikel Gómez y el exconcejal de Podemos Jorge Hinojal, quienes han analizado detalladamente los resultados electorales. Durante la cobertura en directo, también hemos informado sobre la situación en la sede del PNV de Vitoria y sobre la celebración que EH Bildu ha llevado a cabo en la sala Jimmy Jazz para celebrar su éxito electoral. @ramoncitoeldelapipa Interview Bloomfield, NJ- Ramoncito el de la Pipa is a Harlem born, but Jersey made Dominican food blogger or what some like to say, “Food PornStar” with over 95.8K followers on Instagram. The food extraordinaire has always been familiar with social media and his journey started in 2012 on Instagram. Shortly after; he posted a picture of pork fried rice with some spare rib tips, and on the same day a pizza from Dominoes and Ciroc coconut with chinola juice drink, along with other foods throughout that same weekend. To him this was just for fun, until he started noticing that many people really liked these photos. As his following increased, the quality of his content got better, as he was incorporating restaurant reviews and upgrading his photography and editing skills on his photos. His journey from Instagram user to food critic took years but his experience has helped him establish his platform. A jack of all trades type of man he is also the Social Media Manager for Jimmy Jazz, a retailer of popular sneakers, menswear and streetwear with over 180 locations. Videos of him in all the Jimmy Jazz stores has shifted him into having a more on-camera persona for this retailer chain. As a spokesperson for Jimmy Jazz, he says he has worked there for over 10 years and feels very ready and trained to be on-air from when he worked in the call centers, being a copywriter and working his way up to managerial positions. Due to his experience on running a very popular food page to doing some on-camera work for Jimmy Jazz he is venturing off into working with some production companies and streaming services. Food and shoes is his passion, and when asked what are his favorite sneakers he couldn't help to mention Air Jordan 3 white cements, who are also his favorites because they came out the same year he was born and Michael Jordan won his first Championship. This weeks show showed trailblazing in various forms, good and bad. Rapper Lil Jon helped to launch a school in Ghana over the weekend. The "Turn Down for What" hitmaker helped to fund Abomayaw D.A. Kindergarten with bosses at education organization Pencils of Promise, and on Saturday he celebrated by attending its opening. This is great to see entertainers giving back in this way! Rapper Gucci Mane is the face of the new campaign with footwear giant Reebok. Gucci will be featured in a new campaign supporting Reebok’s Workout Plus EG, which was originally launched in 1986. The sneakers are available exclusively at Jimmy Jazz and Reebok.com and will retail for $85. Gucci has really elevated himself since being released from jail and now married, congrats! Rihanna, the pride of her island home nation of Barbados, has used her stardom and platform to support worldwide humanitarian efforts. As a result, the Barbadian government will honor the pop star by renaming a road after her in the neighborhood she was raised in. Rihanna has been a great entertainer and humanitarian for the less fortunate. This is well deserved. The other day in Norway, undefeated boxing star Cecilia Braekhus was facing off with Sweden's Mikaela Lauren for their upcoming fight ... when Mikaela decided to show Cecilia some love (literally). Cecilia shoved her face in shock, but took the kiss like a champ -- laughing off the gesture and even thanking her future opponent for giving her some sugar. In the end, a center is met when the two are mixed, just like a hot and cold rinse.  With The Clash it’s easy to find a more traditional approach to groove, be it a reggae infused rave up; “Guns of Brixton“, “Straight to Hell”, their luscious cover of “Armagideon Time” or the R&B influence in “Jimmy Jazz”. Ultimately The Hold Steady is a sound that bonds.  Reflections of High School, meeting friends and rocking out, or gallivanting about the celebration of something.  Sauna is a bonding thing too because there is a physical closure to the space you and your buddies are enjoying: the hot room.  Then you escape the heat by going outside, cooling down and feeling the expanse like the loud pressure Craig Finn and his crew powering up a club and bonding the masses. Fela Anikulapo Kuti was mostly known for his politics and the company he kept.  His Shrine in Kalakutta, Nigeria not only was a gathering place for him and his brethren but also protection from the outside policies and dangers of the government they feared.  Electrifying the stage and the audience at his performances fueled an inner energy and outer confidence in communal and spiritual environment.  The slow groove of everyday Afrobeat compliments the ritual even in remote suburban environments where perhaps the trouble is not as fierce.
