**Discussion begins at 4:15**Helen Keller was born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, to a prominent family.  While the family was well off, much of their wealth was lost during the Civil War, and they lived rather modestly.   At 19 months, Helen became ill with a high fever due to what many presume to be Scarlet Fever, resulting in loss of eyesight and hearing.  As she grew up, she was frustrated and unruly, prompting her parents to write to the Perkins School for the Blind to request help.  The school sent Anne Sullivan, a 20 year old graduate of the school who suffered serious vision problems.  Anne removed Helen from the home for a few weeks and the two lived in a cottage where Anne taught Helen to communicate with her hands.  Over the next several years, Helen learned to read and write.  Anne Sullivan remained Helen's companion until her death, even helping her to earn a BA in 1904 from Radcliffe College, the female sister school of Harvard.  Helen Keller went on to write over a dozen books, including an autobiography which went on to be adapted into The Miracle Worker.  She also campaigned for social causes like women's suffrage, labor rights, world peace, and was also a vocal advocate for those with disabilities.   She was also a pacifist, a supporter of female birth control, and…. a eugenics supporter!   She was a member of the Socialist Party and a founding member of the ACLU. S he worked for the American Foundation for the Blind for over 40 years, influencing policy and public perceptions of disability worldwide, and traveled to more than 35 countries to promote education and accessibility.  She died in 1961 after suffering a series of strokes, and was celebrated posthumously… Until 2020 when hashtags like #helenkellerisfake and #helenkellerisoverparty started trending on Tik Tok.  Conspiracy theorists claimed that Helen Keller either didn't exist, wasn't truly deaf and blind, or didn't accomplish the things she's famous for—from writing books to earning a degree or speaking publicly.  Some videos even suggested she “faked” her disabilities or that her teacher Anne Sullivan was pulling the strings behind the scenes.  What started out as satire quickly came to be believed as truth by many.  But what is the truth?Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

**Discussion begins at 2:22**On June 21, 1976, Rafael Pacheco Pérez, a student pilot at the Escuela de Aviación México, embarked on a solo training flight from Mexico City to Chimalhuacán.  Shortly after takeoff, he vanished from radar, and an hour later, reappeared over Acapulco—approximately three hours in the opposite direction of his intended destination.  The aircraft, designed for short flights, was low on fuel and not equipped for such a journey.  During communication with air traffic control, Pacheco's voice reportedly became altered, delivering a message from an entity claiming to be using him as a "microphone" to transmit a message.  The message conveyed that the beings were from the same universe, observing humanity, and warned of an impending global catastrophe if humanity did not change.  Upon landing, Pacheco appeared disoriented and was taken for a medical evaluation.  Despite being tested for intoxication, he was found to be in perfect health, with no drugs or alcohol in his system.  But what is the truth behind one of Mexico's most popular aviation mysteries?  Was the pilot truly possessed by extraterrestrial creatures trying to save humanity, and if so were they able to break the time space continuum?  Was he suffering from a Menty-B?  Was it all a hoax perpetrated by the pilot?  Or is this just another urban legend to debunk? Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

**Discussion begins at 5:15**In the 1970s and 80s, the USSR had a dedicated branch of the navy researching “anomalous phenomena”, which used Soviet submarines to track USOs in the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, Lake Baikal, and the Arctic Ocean.  These objects allegedly moved at impossible speeds, changed directions instantly, and were seen emerging from or diving into the water without creating splash disturbances.  Then, in 2009, a number of documents related to the USSR research into UFOs/USOs revealed the story of the Lake Baikal swimmers.  There were declassified reports that 7 Navy divers on a training mission in Lake Blaikal, the world's oldest and deepest lake, had encountered mysterious humanoid beings underwater.  These figures, which came to be known as the Baikal Swimmers, were 9-10 feet tall, wearing tight silver suits with umbrella like helmets on their heads, but lacked scuba gear or breathing apparati.  The divers told their superiors who instructed them to capture one.  The divers again made contact with these acquatic beings, but failed to capture one as  a sudden and powerful force allegedly repelled them.  As a result, the divers all were propelled to the surface and leading them all to suffer from decompression sickness.  Three of the divers died as a result.  But what were the swimmers really?   Extraterrestrial?  Unknown sea creature? – perhaps one of the many species endemic only to Lake Baikal..  Or is this another urban legend gone viral?  Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

**Discussion begins at 4:00**Today, we are going to talk about the tale of the SS Ourang Medan.  This ghost ship was reportedly discovered adrift in the Strait of Malacca in the late 1940s. According to the story, various ships received a chilling distress message from the Ourang Medan stating that the entire crew was dead, followed by a final cryptic transmission: "I die." When rescuers eventually located the vessel, they found the crew's corpses scattered across the deck, their faces frozen in expressions of terror, with no visible signs of injury.  Efforts to tow the ship back to port reportedly failed. Before the vessel could be salvaged or investigated further, it allegedly exploded and sank without a trace. The cause of the crew's deaths and the subsequent destruction of the ship remain unexplained, fueling speculation. **Discussion begins at 5:00**Before there was Henry Cavill, Tom Welling, Dean Cain, or Christopher Reeve… there was the OG Superman… George Reeves was an actor in the 1930s, who's burgeoning career stalled when he enlisted in WW2.  After the war he struggled to find parts, and in need of money, he begrudgingly accepted the role of Superman in the television series Adventures of Superman. The show was a hit, but led to type casting.  As a result, he had difficulty being taken seriously for other acting opportunities.  Off-screen, Reeves' personal life was tumultuous. He had a long-term affair with Toni Mannix, the wife of MGM executive Eddie Mannix, and later became engaged to a younger woman, Leonore Lemmon.  These overlapping relationships, combined with career frustrations and financial stress, ultimately led to him being found dead of a a gunshot wound to the head in his Beverly Hills home on June 16, 1959 – a home his former girlfriend Toni had bought him.  Was it suicide, as is listed as the official cause of death?  The death was never adequately investigated, and there were discrepancies in the scene.  Witnesses in the house gave conflicting stories, there were delays in calling the police, and multiple bullet holes were reportedly found in the room.  Additionally, Reeves' fingerprints were not found on the gun, and some friends claimed he was in good spirits in the days leading up to his death.  Who had motive?  Was it his fiancée - annoyed by his behavior that night and frustrated that he wasn't committed to getting married?  Was it his ex, Toni Mannix, who was heartbroken and had been stalking the engaged couple to the point that he had attempted to obtain a restraining order?  Or was it her husband, Eddie Mannix who was to blame? **Discussion begins at 3:40**In January 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers from the Ural Polytechnic Institute set off on a ski trek in the northern Ural Mountains, aiming to reach Mount Otorten. The group, led by Igor Dyatlov, consisted of eight men and two women, almost all in their early to mid-20s.  These experienced hikers were supposed to send a telegram at each checkpoint they reached.  The first telegram came, the second did not.  A search party went looking for them and on February 26, 1959, their abandoned campsite was discovered.  Inside the tents were neatly folded clothing, with gear left behind (ie., there may be one shoe in the tent but the other was. Missing).  The tent was slashed open from the inside.  Bodies were found in various locations, in various states of dress. The bodies had swapped clothing (for example, male clothing on the females and vice versa).  Six of the hikers cause of death was hypothermia, and the other 3 were killed d/t chest and head trauma.  What makes this even odder, is that he clothing revealed hgh levels of radiation.  Locals and soldiers reported strange orange lights in the night sky around this time.  And the decomposing bodies had orange tinted skin and grey hair.  The Soviet authorities initially ruled that the hikers died due to an "unknown compelling force".   The investigation was quickly closed, and the files were classified.  But what really happened?  Was it an avalanche, recent investigtions by the Russian government would have you believe?  Was the military somehow involved?  Could it have been a Yeti?  Or was there something more paranormal at play? Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

**Discussion begins at 6:00**In 1901, Frederick McKay was a dentist who opened a practice in Colorado Springs and found that his patients all seemed to have stained/mottled teeth, but no cavities.  Why was this?  He determined, after nearly 30 years and with the help of other researchers, that they all had what is now called fluorosis – and it was the result of high levels of fluoride in the Colorado Springs drinking water.  He reported his findings to the dental community, and people started comparing fluoride levels and dental hygiene in various geographical areas. In the 1930s, a dentist with the US Public Health Service, sought to determine how high the level of fluoride in the water could be before it caused mottling, in hopes they could remove fluoride from water sources where there were higher levels.  During his study, he learned that low doses had a protective effect.  It was reported that when natural fluoride concentration was greater than 1 part per million, the incidence of cavities was seen to be reduced by some 50-65% and the World Health Organization began to recommend supplemental fluoride where levels were low.In the 1940s and 50s, there was a push to fluoridate water in the US and Canada, reportedly in an attempt to improve dental health.  This practice was immediately divisive, and remains that way today.  Today, the American Dental Association remains a strong advocate of adding fluoride to water and estimates that every dollar spent on fluoridation saves about fifty dollars in future dental expenses.  Nonetheless, for the last7 0 years there have been people who felt that the government had and continues to have a more nefarious goal… Was this all a communist plot to undermine American health or control the population?  Other critics note similarities between MK Ultra studies and fluoridating water.   The potential goal of mind control was even referenced in the 1964 political satire Dr Strangelove – in which one of the characters, General Jack D. Ripper believes that fluoridation of public water supplies is a Communist conspiracy designed to weaken American willpower. He sees it as a sinister plot to destroy "our precious bodily fluids".  Was this all a conspiracy to cover up and get rid of fluoride, an industrial waste product of fertilizer?  Finally, there are those who believe that water fluoridation is an infringement of individual rights - similar to mass medication or vaccination without consent.  Additional concerns surround the potential negative health effects including bone cancer, thyroid issues, and cognitive deficits in children – but what is the truth?    Is fluoride in our water a cheap and effective way to improve dental health?  Or is there something more sinister at play?Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

**Discussion begins at 4:15**Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson, 99 years ago this week.  Rising to fame in the 1950s, she captivated audiences with her beauty, charm, and vulnerability.  She starred in numerous successful films, including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Seven Year Itch, and Some Like It Hot, solidifying her status as a Hollywood legend.  Despite her glamorous public image, Norma Jeane battled with personal struggles including mental health issues, substance abuse, and a string of troubled relationships.   On August 5, 1962, Norma Jeane was found dead in her Los Angeles home at the age of 36.  The official cause of death was listed as a probable suicide due to an overdose of barbiturates.  A bottle of sleeping pills was found near her bed, and she had reportedly been dealing with depression in the weeks leading up to her death.  However, her death has remained shrouded in mystery and controversy.  Numerous inconsistencies in the timeline of her final hours, the delay in contacting authorities, and the disappearance of personal documents and records have fueled speculation that her death may not have been a simple suicide.  Some believe that foul play was involved, citing her alleged affairs with high-profile political figures such as President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert F. The Billiwhack Monster is a creature said to haunt the hills near Santa Paula, California. First reported during the 1950s, the monster allegedly resides in or around the ruins of the old Billiwhack Dairy.  According to local lore, a former military scientist who owned the dairy was connected to the OSS, the precursor to the CIA.  The OSS allegedly had the owner of the dairy, August Rubel performing experiments beneath the dairy, and one of these secret projects involved attempts to create a super-soldier.  Legend has it that one of these experiments went horribly wrong resulting in the creating of the Billiwhack Monster, a hulking, half man/half goat covered in dark fur, standing over seven feet tall, with immense strength and glowing eyes.  During WW2 Rubel was sent abroad where he died.  The family supposedly abandoned the property, leaving the monster to roam free and torment visitors.  Sightings of the Billiwhack Monster are still reported – is there really a human experiment running free and harming locals?  Or is this all an urban legend meets conspiracy theory stemming from the general distrust of the government during this time period?Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

Robert F. Kennedy, younger brother to John F Kennedy, former Attorney General and New York Senator, and a leading Democratic presidential candidate, was assassinated on June 5, 1968.  He was at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California, shortly after delivering a victory speech following his win in the California primary.  The official story is that Kennedy was shot multiple times by Sirhan Sirhan, a 24-year-old Palestinian man. Sirhan was quickly apprehended at the scene and later claimed that he was angry over Kennedy's pro-Israel stance, particularly his support for Israel in the wake of the Six-Day War in 1967.  Kennedy was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on June 6, 1968.Although Sirhan Sirhan was arrested and convicted of the murder, many conspiracy theories have since emerged surrounding the assassination.  Some people believe that there may have been a second gunman or that Sirhan's actions were part of a larger plot. These theories have been fueled by the fact that Sirhan's gun was only a small-caliber revolver which was inconsistent with the murder weapon, and the physical evidence suggested that the shots that killed Kennedy came from close range—closer than Sirhan was able to stand to the senator at the time. Some argue that there were additional shooters in the pantry, pointing to discrepancies in witness testimony and the trajectory of the bullets.Conspiracy theories point to the possibility of CIA or other government involvement, citing the political climate of the time, with Kennedy being a vocal critic of the Vietnam War and a potential force for change in U.S. politics. **Discussion begins at 4:08**We are taking another look at the infamous sinking of the Titanic - This time discussing the conspiracy theory that the sinking was intentionally planned to ensure the success of the Federal Reserve.  Was the sinking orchestrated to eliminate individuals who opposed the creation of the Federal Reserve System? Several wealthy men, including John Jacob Astor IV, Isidor Straus, and Benjamin Guggenheim, were all aboard the Titanic and died in the disaster.  Today, they would be worth a combined 11 billion dollars.  What else did they have in common?  All three allegedly opposed the passage of the Federal Reserve Act, which aimed to centralize control of US monetary policy.  The sinking of the Titanic occurred in April 1912, and the Federal Reserve Act was signed into law just over a year later in December 1913.  Is this merely a coincidence?  Or was there something more sinister at play?Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

**Discussion begins at 4:30**Let's go back to January 28, 2022 – Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe and his girlfriend, Karen Read, had been fighting. They decided to decompress and meet up in a bar in Canton, Massachusetts, knowing that a blizzard was coming and they were likely going to be snowed in for a few days.  Karen met her boyfriend and his buddies at a bar about a mile from John's home, and then they went across the street to meet up with more of his friends.  After last call, the couple was invited to an after party about 2.5 miles away at the home of Boston Police Officer Brian Albert.  Karen didn't enter the house, for reasons we will get to later, but she dropped of John and then drove herself to his home where she allegedly fell asleep on the couch.  When Karen awoke around 5AM, she noted that John had not come home and began searching for him with the help of some friends.  They found him dead in the snow in front of the Albert residence, eventually leading to the arrest of Karen Read.  Prosecutors allege that Karen backed into John with her SUV, and left the scene, causing John O'Keefe to die d/t a basilar skull fracture and hypothermia.  She was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide, and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. The defense, however, claims that John O'Keefe was likely killed by someone inside the house and that the witnesses, many of whom were affiliated with the Boston Police Department, utilized their resources to cover up the true cause of death and frame Karen Read.  The trial, lasting more than 2 months, and including more than 600 pieces of evidence and 70 witnesses, ended in a mistrial last July. The foreman told the judge "The divergence in our views are not rooted in a lack of understanding or effort but deeply held convictions that each of us carry, ultimately leading to a point where consensus is unattainable," the jury of six men and six women were hung after 4 days of deliberation.  Polling of the jurors revealed that they had all agreed that she was not guilty of murder or leaving the scene but had been confused about how to deliver a partial verdict. **Discussion Begins at 2:20**Sean "Diddy" Combs is the 54 year old music mogul and entrepreneur, known for his record label Bad Boy Records which launched the careers of artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Mase, and Faith Evans, in addition to his own musical career.  Beyond music, Diddy has built a business empire that spans multiple industries, including fashion, television, spirits, and media. He's known for his influence on the hip-hop industry and is considered one of the wealthiest figures in the entertainment world.  In November 2023, his former partner, singer Cassie Ventura, filed a civil lawsuit accusing Diddy of rape, sex trafficking, and physical abuse over a ten-year period. The case was settled the following day, with details remaining confidential.  Subsequently, multiple individuals have come forward with similar allegations, including claims of drugging, sexual assault, coercion into non-consensual sexual activities, and the creation of non-consensual pornography. In September 2024, Diddy was arrested and indicted on federal charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The indictment alleges that Diddy utilized his business operations to facilitate these criminal activities, including forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and drug distribution.
