Many moons ago our special guest Frank Nicotero was the host of a wonderful show called Street Smarts. In honor of this very important part of Mr. Nicotero's resume, we've thrown together a simple but fun concept. "Street" Songs are songs that have the word "street" or "streets" in the title. Everybody got that? Good. In all seriousness this was a load of fun and we always enjoy when Frank joins the pod. We hope you dig this lighthearted romp and our temporary obsession with one word in the english language. As Frank mentions during the show, many episodes of Street Smarts are now available on Youtube and their team is adding more all the time. Out of the Ashes and On the Inside were both Nicotero-directed episodes this week on the podcast and one of them was extra horrific. We're not sold on the Commonwealth and we're generally feeling a lot of deja vu about some of the arcs our characters are going through.

George and the guys are back on solid American soil with the third George Romero zombie classic, Day of the Dead. This time around George and Travis's eyes light up to see the name Greg Nicotero, the gore master and director of AMC's The Walking Dead TV series, in the credits. Can George contain his rampant excitement for all things Nicotero? Does he have Greg's dialog memorized? Can Travis convince Dan that the Mummers are a legitimate form of entertainment? Is Dan wearing a Metallica T-Shirt while recording this episode? Answers within! All comers welcome.

Talking Through Adaptation On this episode 91 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and Brian discuss The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 9, which is titled Adaptation. This was written by Corey Reed, and directed by Greg Nicotero. More teenage angst! Henry!!! What else needs to be said? I am kind of fed up with this character, and as such, Brian didn’t care for the episode. Thankfully, ratings are up again!!! This week, TWD got a 2.00 in the 18-49, with 5.156 million, up from 1.96 and 5.089 million for the mid-season finale. That’s not much, but we’ll take it! Charts below. Due to scheduling conflicts, we have decided to go to a Wednesday night recording schedule for the rest of the season. Please leave your feedback for The Walking Dead, Season 9 Episode 10, titled Omega by 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Check the Facebook group for any deadline changes. Speaking of scheduling conflicts… Brian has decided that he will be stepping back a bit from the podcast, and will not be hosting the show every week. Part of it is due to scheduling with The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, partly due to some fatigue, and partly because the show is not doing it for him like it was, and he wants to focus more on Star Trek. Rest assured, you’ll hear from Brian every week, even when he’s not hosting. He’s not leaving the podcast, but he will take a few weeks off. Other Fun Stuff Completely Unrelated to Adaptation If you want to help pay for the editing of this and other podcasts, I mentioned a while back that you can donate credits to my Auphonic account, which I use to make these episodes sound so good! That link is https://auphonic.com/donate_credits?user=bmeloche. Please remember to subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts. Subscribing to us helps us move up in the rankings, so it’ll help us out tremendously! You’ll also get new episodes when they’re released. And while you’re in there, leave us a rating or review! It only takes a few minutes and it helps others to find us!

On episode 83 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I discuss The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 1, the season premiere, titled A New Beginning. Mark loved it. I didn't love it, but I liked it a lot. It was a setup episode, and a bit long, but there wasn't much I could find fault with, unlike the second half of the Fear season 4.

Talking Through A New Beginning! On this episode 83 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I talk through The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 1, the season premiere, which is titled A New Beginning. It was written by executive producer/showrunner Angela Kang and directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero. Mark loved it, and I liked it a lot. I didn’t have any major problems with it, except that it was a bit long and felt like a setup episode. It reminded me a lot of the Season 4 premiere, 30 Days Without an Accident. That said, I enjoyed this episode a lot more than most of what we had on Fear. What will we do without Gregory? RHETORICAL, OK??? We see Gregory at his most despicable, bringing booze to an alcoholic at his lowest point, and conspiring to kill Maggie, while she is with baby Hershel, then attempt to kill her with a knife. I understand why Maggie executed Gregory, but she pulled a page from Negan by doing it, providing no due process, circumventing the democracy she was just elected to rule. Ratings are way down… As you can see from these rating and viewer charts, created by me, you’ll see that the ratings and viewers are the worst since Season 1. Is it that people are leaving the show in droves, or are there other factors in play? Yes, viewers may not be returning, but there are several other reasons for a ratings decline. One is that AMC Premiere made the episode available a day early for subscribers of the service. Another is that it premiered a couple of weeks earlier than the last few seasons, so some may not have realized that the show was back. Another is that this trend is not isolated to The Walking Dead. Ratings are down, across the board. I do wonder if viewers will return with news of Andrew Lincoln’s departure. One point I want to clarify… One of my weak sauces was how Tammy Rose shifting blame from Maggie. It felt like the writers were grinding the gears a bit, forcing that conversation to tell the story. I said that my reaction to that was to say “OK…” That might have sounded dismissive, or worse – sexist – but Tammy Rose’s reaction to Maggie is completely understandable. I also buy her sentiment about the Saviors. It was the putting of those two things together that felt forced, not emotions that I didn’t buy or the delivery. Connecting them together felt forced to me. If Earl had said the same things, I’d have the same reaction. Get in your feedback! Please leave your feedback for The Walking Dead, Season 9 Episode 2, titled “

We've been had! We've been took! We've been hoodwinked! Bamboozled! Led Astray! Run amok! This is what he does. Yeah, we're talking about you, Nicotero. What did we ever do to you but want our Richonne content?! Despite the deception, this episode of The Walking Dead was, frankly, fun fun fun. We knew Negan was crazy about his bat, but we didn't know he was literally insane. Not really sure how the Saviors follow this dude who starts snarling "Don't you touch her" anytime someone even glances at his weapon of choice, but that's none of our business. Are we now supposed to think Negan maybe isn't all that bad because he genuinely thinks he's saving people? WRONG. Try again. Murderer Rick, you know what we like and you came to give it to us. Saving for the murdering part, of course, but we like the swag we get when you try. Just, maybe...try harder. Simon continues to shine as the crack in the veneer of the Savior organization and we can't wait to see how that conflict comes to a head. Pro tip: just listen to Michonne. C'mon people. Just listen to Michonne. It might end up getting you a key to your future. Also, Enid, go sit in the corner. Wanna enter our Extreme Fan Contest?! It's 2017 and EVERYTHING'S GREAT! At least as far as fans of this podcast are concerned because this episode is great. If you're a fan of The Walking Dead, or Evil Dead 2 or Day Of The Dead or Kill Bill or Django Unchained or any of the seven million movies and television shows this gentleman has worked on, Greg Nicotero is here today. Greg has gone from being one of the leading special effects make-up wizards in in Hollywood to one of the hottest directors in television. Also joining us, Kevin Fitzgerald, a man I can only describe as a real life Forrest Gump. Kevin Fitzgerald. Kevin is a very funny and talented comedian, based in Denver, who I've known for, probably, twenty-five years. Kevin is also, a very brilliant veterinary surgeon, and is the star of Animal Planets' Emergency Vets. So, I was recently in Denver, and I was talking to Kevin, and I happened to ask how he got into being a veterinarian and he said, “Keith Richard's made me do it.” And I said, as you would have said, “Keith Richards, Keith Richards?” and he said, “Yeah.” And what I learned was, from this guy I've known forever, that starting in 1969, Kevin was a bodyguard for the Rolling Stones, among many other bands. Kevin has worked with the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, the list goes on and on and on and he's here today to tell us all about it. Me? I've been busier than a one-armed traffic cop with a skin rash. We're currently in pre-production on season 2 of Stan Against Evil, which means we're breaking stories for the season and writing scripts, the special effects shop is already designing a new season's worth of demons and creatures, I'm back at work on this little baby, and, as you may guess, that takes a little time, and I'm still touring.
