XPeng Inc. (XPEV) joined other EV peers like Rivian (RIVN) in recent rallies by racing to a 3-year high. However, as George Tsilis explains, the company's leap into robotics is what's drawing investor attention. George talks about how the company is accelerating its positioning to compete with a tech giant like Tesla (TSLA).======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Go to TheHotOptionsReport.com to run your own free options reports. Welcome to the Hot Options Report for 11-5-2025! The market showed a strong rebound today, recovering most of its recent losses, which sent the VIX retreating back to the 18 handle. Major indices joined the rally, with SPY and QQQ moving higher, while Small Caps (IWM) impressed with a nearly 1.5% jump. The day saw intense options volume across the board, led by single names. Nvidia (NVDA) was the volume champ (2.25 million contracts) despite the stock being slightly red, with heavy focus on the 200 calls expiring Friday. Tesla (TSLA) surged over 4% on nearly 2 million contracts, and the biggest winner was Rivian (RIVN), which popped nearly 25% and drove huge options activity. Meanwhile, Palantir (PLTR) was notable for seeing over a million contracts focused on puts, suggesting some traders are betting on further downside this week.
A.I. and EVs led Tuesday's trading activity after hours. Kevin Green joins Marley Kayden and Sam Vadas to help explain what caused downside action in Arista Networks (ANET) and Supermicro (SMCI). George Tsilis later joins to explain why AMD Inc. (AMD) was volatile after posting its report. The one clear winner of the postmarket: Rivian (RIVN), which also shared a slew of new announcements.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Karl Brauer and Henry Greene assess the EV sector. They discuss how the political picture has turned against EVs and look at the rate of recent adoption. “It's going to be very difficult for carmakers” of any stripe to “continue sales at the same rate” with the expiration of U.S. EV tax incentives, Henry says. He's looking abroad to materials makers and international EV adoption – but still likes Tesla (TSLA). Karl thinks the U.S.-based “pure EV” makers like Rivian (RIVN) and Lucid (LCID) are in trouble.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – / schwabnetwork Follow us on Facebook – / schwabnetwork Follow us on LinkedIn - / schwab-network About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
While Tesla (TSLA) trades down on what George Tsilis calls a "sell the news" event, Rivian (RIVN) has more challenges. He makes the case that the company can't build enough vehicles to make scalability demands, on top of facing headwinds similar to Tesla from the EV tax credit removal. Chinese automaker Xpeng (XPEV) demonstrated revenue growth in its latest earnings. Karl Brauer says they seem to keep launching high value vehicles and technology. He calls the company a “BYD Part 2” saying he's impressed they are accomplishing this growth in the highly competitive China market. Karl says the big question remains in Xpeng's big capex spend, saying people will want to see profitability growth within the next 4 quarters. Across the global EV landscape, he believes medium to near term doesn't look good for companies like Lucid (LCID) and Rivian (RIVN) as U.S. tax incentives disappear.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – / schwabnetwork Follow us on Facebook – / schwabnetwork Follow us on LinkedIn - / schwab-network About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

The slight uptick in core inflation to 2.7% was more than expected, but "not a huge surprise" to her. She posits the question: is the U.S. economy showing signs of disinflation or stagflation? Mish says there are 3 major factors where we go from here: oil prices, Fed Policy and the "Big, Beautiful Bill." Rivian (RIVN) reports earnings after the closing bell, and it comes as the EV industry is driving through what Karl Brauer calls a "tough environment." He argues it will be "hard to see" growth for the industry under a Trump administration in the U.S. with sales already plateauing for Rivian and its peers. However, hybrids may open the door for an easier long-term transition to an electric future. ======== Schwab Network ======== Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Episode 151 brings us the October spookies with Halloween upon us. We discuss the presidential election and the fear surrounding the outcome. How will the market react? How should you react? We remind listeners of the cognitive bias called "Loss Aversion," which says we perceive losses as more psychologically damaging than gains of the same size. By a factor of 2 to 1, in fact. Remember this when you see all the political ads trying to keep you glued by informing you of all the horrible things the "other" candidate will do. Our investment thesis for Rivian "$RIVN" is also discussed. Listen, research, and then decide if it could be an investment you'd be interested in.

May Retail Sales May retail sales showed the economy is continuing to decelerate, which is exactly what I think we need to see. The release showed retail sales were up 0.1% compared to last month, which missed the estimate of 0.2%. When looking at May 2023, retail sales were up 2.3%. While this doesn't show a booming economy, I still believe it is a healthy level. Nonstore retailers continued see strong growth as sales were up 6.8%. It appears as the comparisons have gotten more challenging sales growth at food services and drinking places is slowing as sales were up 3.8%. It appears we have seen a turn in electronics and appliance stores as sales were up 1.8%, but furniture and home furnishing stores (-6.8%) and building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers (-4.3%) remained the two weakest groups in the report. Overall, I think this report should provide further evidence that a rate cut by the Fed should be warranted as we exit the year. Annuities I have always cautioned people when it comes to annuities. Over my 40 years of financial experience, I have seen annuities sold to people by companies that later went through bankruptcy and insolvency. Two companies come to mind, Baldwin United and Executive Life Insurance Company. After these bankruptcies some policy holders only received 2/3 or so of their investment and no interest at all. I was curious how some annuities were paying high yields over the last few years with interest rates so low. Thanks to an investigative team from Barron's, they discovered a report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago dated June 3rd that life insurers are relying more heavily on private placements and generally higher yielding securities that are exempt from federal reporting requirements and are lacking an active secondary market. According to the report, private placements now are about 20% of all life insurance bond holdings, which is up from 15% just five years ago. I believe holders of these annuities have no idea that their annuity is backed by private loans from soccer teams, film financing, and even sports broadcast rights. They are definitely far riskier than the old insurance companies that would invest in good quality equities along with highly rated bonds. Consumers need to be aware because in the brochures that are given by the sales people who have no idea what's in the portfolio, they're still saying these are as safe as CDs, savings bonds, money markets, and treasury bills. Unfortunately, that is not the case and I believe down the road we could be reading about seniors who were depending on these annuities for their retirement and they have stopped receiving income from the annuity and/or have lost some of their principal. My recommendation is to understand what you're investing in and make sure the investment advisor you're dealing with is knowledgeable about the investments and not just selling you a product for a big commission or a trip to Australia or Morocco as some annuity companies have given as an incentive to their brokers with the best sales. It's always best to deal with an investment advisor who is 100% a fiduciary. New Car Sales Maybe you're driving around in a car that is six- or seven-years old thinking gosh my car is old, perhaps I should replace it with a new one. Well don't be in too much of a hurry. The age of your car is well below the average vehicle on the road which is currently 12.6 years as reported by S&P Global Mobility. That Is up from the average age of 11.2 years just 10 years ago. This is caused by many factors, not just the average cost of a new vehicle which is around $47,000. You also have higher interest rates, your registration will be higher, and insurance premiums could increase by double digits with a new car. There are some people who just don't want the hassle of going to buy a new car and having to deal with the car sales person that could put a lot of pressure on them. Some people flat out just don't like the new cars and they miss the old buttons and easy access to turn things on and off as opposed to the new touchscreens and technology that can take hours and hours to learn. New car sales have done well over the last few years and probably will continue to stay strong for years to come, but there are a few people out there that are just resisting the technology and will stay with their current vehicle for many more years to come. Navigating the Social Security Earnings Limit Social Security can be collected between the ages of 62 and 70, but if you apply before your “full retirement age”, which is usually 67, you will be subject to an earnings limit. This rule states that for every $2 of earned income, such as wages, you have above the annual limit of $22,320, $1 of your Social Security will be withheld from you. This limit does not include retirement income like pensions, interest, capital gains, dividends, or IRA withdrawals. Also, once you reach your full retirement age, this rule no longer applies meaning you can continue to work without any benefit reduction. If you do have Social Security benefits reduced due to this earnings limit, once you reach age 67, you will receive a credit for the benefits you did not receive and your monthly payments will be permanently increased to compensate for it. In other words, the benefits are not totally lost, just deferred until your full retirement age. This might happen if you retire and return to work, or simply apply for Social Security before you retire. Most people retire partway through the year, so it is common for wages in the first half of the year to exceed the $22,320 limit. However, there is a second component to this earnings rule which states if you apply for Social Security in the same year you retire, as long as your monthly earnings are less than $1,860 once you begin Social Security, there will be no reduction. It is also important to note that this earnings rule is the main reason your “full retirement age” is significant. It is a misconception that it is better to wait until full retirement age to collect when in reality every month you wait beyond age 62 up until 70 your benefit amount increases. If you are retired, your full retirement age is irrelevant as the earnings limit will no longer apply. Stocks Discussed: Dave and Busters (PLAY), Airbnb (ABNB) and Rivian (RIVN)

Rivian (RIVN) will use the superchargers that Tesla (TSLA) makes, joining General Motors (GM) & Ford (F). Sylvia Jablonski discusses the story, calling Rivian one of the more interesting EV makers and saying the deal is beneficial for its growth. She notes that Tesla represents 60% of EV charging stations. She says that Tesla's market share will shrink overall in the future, but the EV market will expand massively. Sylvia thinks Tesla's stock could rise in the double-digits in the coming years.
After analyzing this latest round of employment data, it's clear to see that the labor market is substantially weakening. February job openings crashed. Layoffs are continuing to pile up. Jobless claims in the most economically sensitive states are on the rise – and usually, jobless claim spikes in these states precede nationwide claim spikes. At this point, the labor market is obviously deteriorating. However, it's not yet dying. And that offers a “sweet spot” – a narrow window for the Fed to guide the economy to a soft landing. Adding to our conviction is the fact that financial stress is also high right now. Treasury yields are plunging, indicating that bond investors are preparing for the financial markets to get tight. Credit and yield spreads are widening, and bank lending volume is collapsing. Plus, on Tuesday, JPMorgan (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon said that the banking crisis is not over yet – and that's from someone who endured the 2008 financial crisis, so we're inclined to heed this warning. Given these macro developments, the Fed has ample reason to smash the pause button on its rate-hike campaign. Indeed, the Reserve Bank of Australia just paused, as did the Bank of Canada. Whenever those central banks pause, the U.S. Federal Reserve does, too. And historically speaking, after a Fed pause, stocks take off like a rocket. So, what does Luke like right now ahead of that incoming mega rally? Hydrogen, EVs, and Big Tech.Top Industries to Invest In: Hydrogen StocksNow, the hydrogen market has struggled lately, putting a hurting on one of our favorite companies – Plug Power (PLUG). And that's because this market is developing much more slowly than most anticipated. Despite this, the space is still growing quickly, and electrolyzer shipments are expected to double or triple here in 2023. Nothing about the bull case has changed. The world is still moving to replace natural gas with hydrogen power. And legislation continues to develop, helping to accelerate this shift. Further, Big Oil is moving into the hydrogen space. There's tons of demand for this fuel in Europe. And by summer, production tax credits for green hydrogen will come into focus – the first of its kind here in the U.S. The long-term demand for hydrogen power is extremely robust, so hydrogen is a great play if you can afford to hold on for the long haul. Top Industries to Invest In: EV StocksLike hydrogen, electric vehicle (EV) stocks continue to struggle. While Tesla (TSLA), Rivian (RIVN), Nio (NIO), XPeng (XPEV), and others released positive updates, their stocks dropped in response. We think this weird price action is a result of reemerging recession fears. After all, the auto market is not recession-resilient. Who knows how EVs will sell if the economy slows and interest rates remain high – especially because electric vehicles are expensive. But for us, this short-term risk doesn't matter; we're long EVs. Rivian, Fisker (FSR), and Lucid (LCID) will sell every car they make. They've all got reservation backlogs, so demand is a non-issue. And each has a unique value proposition that could help them to become leaders in this industry. If you're in EVs for the long term, this seems like a fantastic buying opportunity. Top Industries to Invest In: Big Tech StocksAnd Big Tech as a safety-net trade has definitely continued. The Nasdaq is showing alpha every single day. And now, the Nasdaq-100 has officially entered a new bull market after rallying 20% off its December lows. Names like Apple (AAPL), Meta (META), Nvidia (NVDA), and Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) are leading these rallies. And these stocks are fairly recession-resilient – we'll still all use Google, scroll on Facebook and Instagram, and watch Netflix during a recession. Plus, they'll all benefit from lower Treasury yields. We think this dynamic will work for the foreseeable future.
