Stāsta Latvijas Radio informācijas tehnoloģiju (IT) resursu apkalpošanas inženieris Edgars Jackevičs Jau no pirmsākumiem radio tika atskaņoti skaņuplašu ieraksti, bet 1936. gadā Radiofona rīcībā nonāca aparatūra, ar kuras palīdzību reportāžas un skaņu ierakstīja vaska platēs. Taču plates izmantošanas laiks bija ļoti īss, to varēja lietot aptuveni 10-12 reizes, līdz tā nodila.

In this episode, I share how my eight-year-old son, Lewis, inspired me to see gait in a whole new way. When he decided he wanted to improve his walking, we began exploring small, mindful movements together — tuning into how his pelvis, ribs, and legs worked in harmony. What unfolded was a beautiful reminder that propulsion isn't about strength or effort, but about awareness, coordination, and trust between the body and the nervous system. You'll learn how awareness, sensitivity, and trust between the brain and body create lightness in both movement and life. For me, propulsion isn't about pushing forward — it's about allowing forward. As Lewis' movement became smoother and more effortless, his energy and confidence lifted too — showing how ease in motion mirrors ease within, and how true progress unfolds when we move with clarity, connection, and trust.

In this episode of From Pain to Possibility, I explore one of the most fundamental human movements, gait, and how it reveals key insights into knee pain, fatigue, and overall movement patterns. Walking isn't just about the feet and knees; it's a coordinated dance between the hips, pelvis, ribs, and breath. When one part of the system fatigues or stiffens, the knees often end up taking more than their share of the load. You'll learn how to recognize early signals of fatigue, tune into your breath, and notice subtle shifts in stride and rotation that show where your system might be compensating. I'll guide you through simple ways to restore balance while walking: small pauses, stretches, and breath resets that prevent pain before it starts. Gait isn't about perfect mechanics; it's about awareness, adaptability, and allowing your whole body to share the work with ease.

Today's guest is running and movement coach, Lawrence Van Lingen, a world-renowned movement coach known for helping athletes move better by blending scientific principles, psychology, biomechanics, and intuitive coaching methods. He's worked with a range of athletes, from Olympians and elite runners, to everyday movers to unlock efficiency, fluidity, and performance. Running and what we would refer to as “functional strength” are closely related. Strength-based movements that train the gait cycle are amongst the most natural and effective versions available. In working the keys that make for better propulsion and effectiveness in locomotion, we can get insight into better strength practices in general. In this episode, Lawrence van Lingen shares how crawling, backward movement, foot training, and resisted walking can strengthen critical elements of the gait cycle. He explores the connection between natural rhythmic movement and running performance, the ways fear can disrupt quality motion, and how play and curiosity drive better movement learning. From syncing strides to music to mobilizing the feet, Lawrence offers a range of practical, creative methods to enhance coordination and speed. His take? Our lifestyle has pulled us far from our natural roots. Kids growing up barefoot, outdoors, and constantly playing tend to move better—more fluid, intuitive, and efficient. But if you've spent your life in shoes, cars, and classrooms, you've likely lost some of that. Takeaway:Reclaiming efficient movement may mean “unlearning” modern habits and returning to play, curiosity, and organic exploration—just like barefoot kids who never saw a car before age ten. Drills can help, but you won't drill your way back to instinctual movement if your foundation is disconnected. [9:40] – The Impact of Fear on Athletic Performance Fear, even subtle, can hijack movement. Lawrence emphasizes that emotional blocks—doubt, hesitation, trying too hard—are often the root of poor performance. Confidence doesn't just show up on the scoreboard, it's embedded in your nervous system and your patterns. Takeaway:Fear shows up in the body before it shows up in results. Addressing performance isn't just about skill—it's about safety and trust in your movement. Don't just train mechanics—train confidence in your central patterns. You can't out-coach fear with drills alone. [20:55] – Enhancing Running Performance Through Rhythmic Variation Running with perfect repetition isn't always the goal. Lawrence argues that variation in rhythm—like what you see when runners naturally sync with each other—adds adaptability and longevity. Uniform surfaces lead to breakdown; varied rhythm preserves the system. Takeaway:Train rhythm, not repetition. Each step should feel subtly different.

What if you could design your training program based on how you walk? In this episode, I speak with my podcast producer, Tony, about gait assessment, and how the way you walk can reveal the health of your brain and give you clues about how to improve your movement and decrease pain. I discuss the difference between running gait and walking gait, the biomechanical rabbit hole, and why gait assessment is one of my most important assessment tools. I break down four common patterns to look for when assessing gait and give details on how to recognize them, what they mean for the brain and higher order systems, and starting points for training based on each pattern. I also talk about my earliest experiences with gait assessment, why people on Instagram think I'm crazy, and why my current training program revolves around improving my own walking gait. Figuring out if your multiple sclerosis is changing from the relapsing remitting to the secondary progressive stage can be murky. Signs of progression are discussed like slower walking and worsening memory. The underlying reasons for progression are revealed including nervous system injury, remyelination failure, chronic inflammation and aging. Practical ways to improve progressive symptoms are shared. Successful trials for disease-modifying therapy for secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) are highlighted. Tolebrutinib, under expedited review by the FDA, has been shown to slow down progression in SPMS patients by targeting cells in the central nervous system causing chronic inflammation. Introducing our new co-host Jamie Holloman MD from The MS Center for Innovations in Care!  Dr. Holloman completed in neurology residency at Washington University, followed by a 3-year fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.  He interviews: Christopher Laganke MD, Founder of the Joanne P.
