It does seem ironic even that an act of God or natural disaster can eviscerate a region so completely but eventually bring a community together. We have seen that over and over again since the devastation of the hurricanes in September. Such times also build leaders. We hear about the rebuilding effort from Duke Energy's newly named President, Harry Sedaris. If you weren't here last Sunday, we kicked off our new sermon series, "Atmosphere Matters," which is a deep dive into the Sideris 14 principles. Why focus on this now? Well, now more than ever, it's crucial to remind ourselves who exactly God has called us to BE as a community testifying to his goodness and grace in the city and we think the 14 principles do just that! What atmosphere grips a people centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ and how do we cultivate and guard that atmosphere in and out of every season? * CONNECT CARD -- https://siderischurch.com/connectcard * MAKE A BIG DECISION -- https://siderischurch.com/baptism * GOSPEL RESOURCES -- https://siderischurch.com/resources
This is the first sermon in a new series called "Atmosphere Matters." In classic Sideris fashion, this title is not just a "double entendre" but a triple entendre. Bonus points if you can guess all three meanings of Atmosphere Matters. Then keep listening to hear about Principle Zero.

Psalm 73 | This Sunday we're excited to dive into another Psalm, specifically the 73rd one! And there is so much to be excited about too, as we've gathered in our new Ballard location I can't help but rejoice at how many new faces and stories God is bringing into our midst. Even if you have only been coming to Sideris a few weeks I would encourage you to engage a face you're unfamiliar with and get to know a story you haven't heard before over lunch. I know I sometimes feel overwhelmed with the amount of "new" going on, but if I continue to slowly "engage each one" (Sideris Principle #7) I'm sure to discover more and more what God is up to in our world and stand in awe of what he's done which is the supernatural recipe for... Přechod mezi antikou a středověkem, mezi pohanstvím a křesťanstvím, je pravděpodobně mnohem pozvolnější, než by se mohlo zdát z učebnic dějepisu. Tashas, a beloved brand in South Africa, grew from a single restaurant in Atholl, established with money from a loan shark, to 15 locations across the country. In 2019, Natasha Sideris and her brother Savva bought back Tashas from Famous Brands, establishing Tashas Group. This international hospitality company would soon have 10 brands under its umbrella, including the Flamingo Room by Tashas, Avli by Tashas, Bungalo34, and the World's Top Galaxy Bar. The group first expanded overseas to the Middle East, establishing a presence in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia. Now, they are venturing into the London market with a Tashas opening at Battersea Park Power Station at the end of November 2023. In an interview with Biznews, Sideris shared her apprehensions about opening a restaurant in the competitive London market. They plan to bring their first restaurant, Atholl Square to London with its South African flavours and interior design. Like other South Africans who have come to London, one of the biggest challenges is staffing. However, Sideris is adapting to a younger generation with different expectations. She also discussed her decision to part ways with Famous Brands in 2019, how South African staff form the backbone of her overseas teams, and her plans to expand into every major world city and launch a homeware collection.
Hashem catches up with Natasha Sideris after a two-year scheduling ping-pong. He instantly bonds with the iconic restaurateur and founder of Tashas, Avli, and Flamingo Room, over their quest for work-life balance and sustaining a timeless brand with menu classics and sleek interior design. Natasha shares her most cherished metrics for success and what keeps her motivated despite a career spanning over three decades. They also discuss her plans for expansion in Saudi Arabia and the UK, the biggest threats to a restaurant's growth, and why she will invariably decline a Hellenic expansion.
At first glance, historic preservation seems to be a key part of good urban planning. But whom does historic preservation actually serve? In this week's episode, our guests discuss their recent LCHP report that analyzes the power dynamics behind historic preservation. They look at the way in which historic preservation norms have been applied as an instrument of cultural control in three Southern California communities with large Asian-American populations. At the end of the day, they pose the question of whether historic preservation should be seen as an instrument of good planning or a form of cultural imperialism?Anastasia Loukaitou-Sideris is a Distinguished Professor of planning and urban design at UCLA. Hao Ding is a doctoral student in urban planning at UCLA. Both scholars were recipients of Luksin Center for History and Policy research grants.
1 Corinthians 15:35-50 || More than the months it took for our series to finally get to this passage in 1 Corinthians 15, you could say that it took 15 years in the making for Dave! This is "THE" passage that confirmed the calling of our lead pastor David Evanger in 2007 which began the journey of being called to the mission field of sharing the gospel with young working adults and inviting them to "Consider Jesus". It's what led him to start the "Consider Concerts" and to eventually plant a church in the heart of Seattle called "Sideris" which is the Latin root of the word "consider" but can also be translated to 'heavenly body". Poetically, Sideris appeals to our eternal state as Christians and also points to the church as the body of Christ which is what we aim to do as a church with every message, song, and conversation.

Full interview of jazz bassist, composer and vocalizer Apostolos Sideris on the release of his new album HANE. Presented by Vika Stankovic. "A scorching August midday. I stand on my balcony, looking out at the sea, well, trying to discern it in the muggy haze on the horizon. Apostolos is on his way to sit down in conversation with me. I'm pondering my decision to start this podcast. Feelings of worry, excitement, anxiety are all intertwined and I try to give each of the emotions space. To recognise them and let them be. You see, I've been ‘in conversation' with people all my life and greatly enjoyed discussions on all sorts of topics, but this has always been either within my profession (I'm an English teacher) or personal encounters with friends and family members. I've even been talking with artists, musicians, painters, composers, poets all my adult life. So, this is nothing new for me. Why was I then so nervous about this podcast, which by the way, was my idea to begin with? I glance down from the first floor and see a yellow Athenian taxi halting right in front of the gate. This instantly brings me back to reality. Apostolos emerges from within and waves up in my direction, a cotton tote bag on his shoulder, a smile on his face. He immediately apologizes for being late (only 10 minutes) and tells me laughingly that he had a hilarious time with friends the night before and that he was coming straight from his friend's place with next to no sleep at all. I laugh along. I'm not worried in the least. Musicians, the world over, have always been night owls. He does accept some coffee, though. The first thing I notice is Apostolos's childlike gaze as he, coffee in hand, looked around and started asking questions about the artwork on the walls with genuine inquisitiveness. I was right, I thought. Playfulness is one one of the key qualities of most musicians I've encountered so far and Apostolos was no exception. What followed was a serious of spontaneous questions on my part through a couple of games, which Apostolos accepted with due innocence. After all, his recent album release ‘Hane' was largely based on improvisation, that is, playing around with whatever ideas and means he had at hand during the period of physical enclosure we've all been through. The mind, though, was free to roam and create, as Apostolos puts it himself."
Tasha's restaurants have become synonymous with quality food, lovely aesthetics and generous portion sizes. In fact, Tasha's is the benchmark we South African's have all used to compare other Brunch places “It's like Tasha's but not as vibey” (be honest, we've all said it!) Ever since starting the podcast I have wanted to speak to Tasha's founder, Natasha Sideris, and find out more about her journey - I was especially intrigued about the sale and repurchase of the majority stake in her business to Famous Brands, why she chose to relocate to Dubai, her new restaurant concepts and global expansion plans as well as any advice for Self Starters to get going on their own journey. What I got was so much more, Natasha is a down-to-earth, honest and hardworking business woman with a keen intuition for what will resonate with her customers and a strong human understanding of how to build a team that will not just move in the same direction but will quite literally follow her across the world. For many, it will come as a surprise to know just how well entrenched the Tasha's Group is in the Middle East already. However, this is just the start of the Group's global expansion plans with many new concept restaurants expected to roll out in the Middle East over the next few years with plans also underway for her signature, Tasha's cafe, to open up in the UK in the next few years. Her story feels relatable and accessible and I think that's down to her genuineness and unpretentious air - it was one of my favourite chats to date, I hope you enjoy! #podcast #entrepreneur #SelfStarter #food #business #foodie #Dubai #Brunch
Like any good trilogy franchise, the Easter Story really has three parts: The Cross, The Resurrection, and The Ascension. The true story of Jesus has to include all three parts to make sense and to save us. So at Sideris, we take three weeks each year to unpack each of the 3 parts of the story surrounding Easter. This week is all about The Ascension. What does it mean that Jesus ascended? What does that matter where Jesus is now and what he is doing? Why is this part of Jesus' story often forgotten or overseen?
