Plusieurs médias européens parlent ou ont décidé de boycotter le réseau social X, l'ancien Twitter. En voici les raisons mais ce choix est loin d'être une évidence car les médias ne peuvent pas se passer de X, démonstration. La presse européenne n'aime pas Elon Musk, du moins une partie de la presse quotidienne. Et c'est vrai que depuis que l'homme le plus riche du monde a repris X (l'ancien Twitter), il y avait déjà de grands débats au sein des rédactions pour savoir s'il fallait ou non déserter cette plateforme d'information accusée d'avoir dévié de son objectif depuis que Elon Musk l'a rachetée à coups de milliards de dollars. Et de fait, coup sur coup ces derniers jours, des quotidiens comme le Guardian en Grande-Bretagne, La Vanguardia en Espagne ou Ouest-France et Sud-Ouest en France ont franchi le pas et ont donc décidé tout simplement de boycotter la plateforme X, accusée d'être, en vrac, une plateforme toxique, un réseau social truffé de fake news et de manipulations complotistes, et j'en passe et des meilleurs. Mais comment font alors les autres organes de presse pour rester sur une plateforme jugée toxique par d'autres confrères ? Cuando se anunció que el multimillonario Elon Musk compraría Twitter, en 2022, se especuló mucho con lo que podría suceder, con qué ocurriría no solo con la herramienta sino con esa comunidad. Dos años más tarde, ahora llamada X y con su dueño designado a cargo del nuevo Departamento de Eficiencia Gubernamental en el próximo período de Donald Trump como presidente de EEUU, los medios que tanto valor le dieron, están abandonando la plataforma. Los diarios La Vanguardia, español, y The Guardian, británico, anunciaron esta semana que dejarán de publicar posteos en la red social X. El texto editorial de La Vanguardia justifica la decisión en que X “se ha convertido en una plataforna en la que encuentran una caja de resonancia las teorías de la conspiración y la desinformación”, cosa que asocian a la falta de “una moderación efectiva y razonable”. Desde ese momento nuestro país vecino quedó inmerso en un acalorado debate sobre la libertad de expresión que va mucho más allá de sus fronteras y se extiende por el mundo; por ejemplo, el caso se discute en la campaña electoral de Estados Unidos, donde X tiene su cuartel general. La suspensión fue ordenada en la tarde del viernes por Alexandre de Moraes, juez del Supremo Tribunal Federal, quien viene librando desde hace meses una pulseada con el dueño de X, el multimillonario Elon Musk. Quienes desde Brasil intentan ingresar a la web de X se encuentran ahora con un mensaje que les pide recargar el navegador sin que eso surta ningún efecto a continuación. El bloque, que ocurre poco más de un mes antes de las elecciones municipales, responde a un ultimátum lanzado por el minstro Moraes el miércoles pasado, para que la plataforma nombrara a un representante local. El plazo venció el jueves, tras lo cual X afirmó que esperaba ser bloqueado "en breve" por su negativa de acatar las "órdenes ilegales" del juez. Según la red social, De Moraes buscaba con esta acción "censurar a sus oponentes políticos". Este es el último hito de un proceso que comenzó cuando, en nombre de la lucha contra la desinformación, De Moraes ordenó bloquear cuentas de figuras ultraconservadoras brasileñas, a partir de los intentos de partidarios del expresidente Jair Bolsonaro de desacreditar la victoria electoral de Lula da Silva en los comicios de 2022. En abril pasado, De Moraes abrió una investigación contra X, acusándola de reactivar algunas de esas cuentas que estaban suspendidas por orden judicial. Eso disparó un tira y afloje que llevó a X a cerrar sus oficinas en Brasil a mediados de agosto, aunque mantuvo el servicio disponible para la población de ese país. Con aquella decisión la compañía dejó de tener un representante legal en Brasil, algo que no es aceptable según la nomativa brasileña. Esa fue la razón que llevó a De Moraes a plantear el ultimátum que ejecutó el viernes. Sustentó su fallo en los "reiterados y conscientes" incumplimientos judiciales de X y "su intento de evitar someterse al sistema legal y judicial brasileño". Aseguró que X pretende "crear un ambiente de total impunidad" en las redes sociales brasileñas y se ha tornado en objeto de "instrumentalización" de grupos de odio. El fallo desató la indignación de Musk. "La libertad de expresión es la base de la democracia y un seudojuez no electo en Brasil la está destruyendo con fines políticos", reaccionó en X el magnate, quien ha calificado a De Moraes de "dictador malvado".
