¿Brujas y hechiceros, o garcas y degenerados? Con música de Ozzy Osbourne, y The Falcons of Haunt. On this episode of Comic Book Yeti's Cryptid Creator Corner we welcome David Hazan back to the podcast. David is here to discuss his newest Mad Cave Studios series Kosher Mafia with issue #1 hitting your LCS on August 7th. The series is written by David with artwork by Sami Kivela, colors by Ellie Wright, and lettered by Simon Bowland. Kosher Mafia takes place in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1936. It tells the story of Howard Berkowicz, the bookkeeper for the Jewish Mob who finds himself on the wrong end of an enforcer's gun when he tries to spur the Kosher Mafia into action against the rising tide of domestic Nazism in the German American Bund. David and I talk about his research into this time period for Kosher Mafia, Sami Kivela's incredible artwork, wrapping up Nottingham, and making unsafe choices, creatively speaking. Our episode sponsors After the Realm Don't miss Eisner and Harvey award winning comics creator Michael Avon Oeming's newest crowdfunding project After The Realm. With over 300 pages of material and 22 new pages of story, this graphic novel collects issues 1-5 of this realm trotting dystopian fantasy adventure that follows young ranger Oona Lightfoot's travels and travails trying to find her best friend as the nine realms are torn asunder. This is a very special episode for a number of reasons. I'm a huge Greg Pak fan so it was wonderful to finally have him on the podcast, but my brother Bobby, the Cryptid Creator Corner's number one most dedicated fan, is a Greg Pak superfan and I start the episode by reading Greg a message from Bobby. Greg and I then get into discussing his new series from Boom Studios LAWFUL out June 12th. LAWFUL is about a world where every time you break the law, your physical appearance is slowly changed into something monstrous. The story centers on two friends: Sung and Eris. Greg and I really dig into this story to discuss its themes and implications. Greg also gets to gush about working with his collaborators Diego Galindo, Irma Kniivila, and Simon Bowland. We chat about world-building, anxiety, and doing bad things to good characters. We also get to chat about the Dynamite series LILO & STITCH. Issue #4 just dropped on June 5th. Greg is working with artist Giulia Giacomino. The series has been stellar so far, capturing well the voice & tone of both main characters. We chat a bit about how this opportunity came about and why Greg was excited to write this series. It's a really lovely conversation you do not want to miss. Learn more about your ad choices. To paraphrase a marketing line from the 80's - adventure has a new name, and that name is Shahidah El-Amin. The lead character in the recent Image Comics mini-series Compass, Shahidah is a 13th Century scholar from Baghdad's House of Wisdom who has traveled to the British Isles to investigate claims of a tribe that has found the secret to eternal life. Along the way to discovering the truth, Shahidah encounters different mysteries, cultures, surprises, allies, enemies, and those who would be both. Now collected in trade paperback as Compass: The Cauldron of Eternal Life, the series was drawn by Justin Greenwood, colored by Daniela Miwa, lettered by Simon Bowland, and written by our guests today: the Australian writing duo of Dave Walker and Robert Mackenzie. The conversation covers the meaning of adventure in today's world, the Venn diagram of role-playing games, comics, and improv theatre, the price of comics Down Under, doing your creative homework, ranking Indiana Jones's exploits, and much more!

In February 2017, 2000 AD celebrated four decades of cutting edge comics at the 40 Years of Thrill-power Festival in London and we are proud to give you a front row seat for panels with some of the best creators in comics today... Writers and artists may grab the headlines, but letterers and designers have always been a fundamental part of what makes 2000 AD what it is. Host Tom Muller goes behind-the-scenes with former lead designer Pye Parr, veteran letterer Annie Parkhouse, former designer and artist Rian Hughes, and letterer Simon Bowland to discuss the often overlooked arts of lettering and designing the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, from the old days of paste and scalpels to modern desktop computers. Please note: this panel was recorded using hand-held microphones in front of a live audience so sound quality may be variable.
