Miami-based rapper Smiles Official is not an overnight sensation like social media may have people thinking, with over 350,000 followers on Instagram. In fact, he's worked hard for many years and says he won't stop until he's reached the top. Born and raised in Cutler Ridge, a suburb of Miami, Smiles Official was raised with the sounds of reggae, soca, soul and R&B music filling his family home. The talented rapper says not only has his Haitian and Jamaican family roots inspired his work, but growing up in south Florida, a cultural melting pot, allowed him to broaden his network and tap into different music styles ultimately defining him as an artist. From deejaying in high school to the release of his first single “You Can Get Down” and even becoming a street team member for Slip-N-Slide Records, the young aspiring artist used every moment to learn what makes the music business work. In 2017, Smiles Official released “I Got A Bag” which quickly garnered over 1 million streams on Spotify. The smash single was the momentum that kept the rapper moving rapidly forward, releasing a new mixtape every year on his birthday, Aug. 11, which also coincides with the anniversary of hip hop dating back to Aug. 11, 1973. Smiles Official has since released hits like “Bands In the Trap” featuring Tory Lanez. His latest album Caribbean Blvd, entitled after the street he grew up on, includes hits like “So Sexy” featuring the iconic trailblazing female rapper Trina and influential figures in modern hip hop such as Grammy-award winning multi-platinum rapper and record executive Rick Ross among others. Hear more about his journey, latest album, performing with Rick Ross, cofounding the record label Streets Enterprise, and the answer to the question “what something many people don't know about Smiles Official.” Learn more about your ad choices. Slip-N-Slide Records recording artist Teenear is carving a lane of her own. The Miami native began singing at the age of 3 and honed her craft through participating in pageants, talent shows and in church. With her sights set on singing, dancing and acting, Teenear is poised to be Miami’s next breakout star. At 15 the singer took her parents’ advice and uploaded a performance cover of Rihanna’s “Stay” to her YouTube channel and began creating a buzz. Teenear kept the momentum going with a cover of Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” which left quite the impression on the star herself. In 2015, she released her debut single; “Friday Night” featuring rapper Sage The Gemini, then followed up with the mid-tempo “Streetlights” in 2016. “Friday Night” went global when Japanese dancer Kahonna used the song for a choreography video and “Streetlights” received a dancehall inspired remix featuring rapper Trina in the fourth quarter of 2016. The two releases display the singer’s progressive growth that only continues with the new music that she is preparing to release. Teenear kicked off 2017 with “Last Night,” a breakup anthem that that fuses R&B with bounce and kept the momentum going with the Velous-produced “Something Else.” Yearly, the Teenear teams up with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan and the Ted Lucas foundation for their annual turkey giveaway. Her philanthropic efforts also include visiting the Miami Children’s Hospital and working with the American Cancer Foundation. With influences that include trailblazers like Mariah Carey, Brandy, Aaliyah and Beyoncé, Teenear has vocal prowess and a positive image that is reflected in her music.

Our extended commentary this week focused on the current tragedy with the earthquake aftermath in Haiti, including the current casualties, what are other countries going to offer in regards to accepting Haitians of all ages into their countries post-recovery, worries of profiteering off of Haiti's issues pre- and post-recovery, the ignorant statements of Pat Robertson & Rush Limbaugh and some other things. During this week's show, we had a great interview with Brooklyn, NY's own independent Hip-Hop MC G3MZ (http://www.myspace.com/g3mz; http://ElegantHoodness.ning.com). This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of December 8, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary this week focused on more of the overblown mainstream media saga with the coverage of Tiger Woods' infidelity and it's ties to race & sex issues, the importance of Soul Music singer Sade's latest single and upcoming album in 2010 and some other things here and there. We had another great interview this week with the independent Hip-Hop/Soul/Electro music group Dukes of Daville (http://www.DukesWorldOrder.com). Some of the questions we had for the Hinesville & Atlanta, Georgia music duo (consisting of Cedric “Ric aka Ricky Balboa” Lindsey and James “Jimi” Smalls) included their musical backgrounds, how they met up, their former deal at Capitol Records, the current album release that's out now for free download "The 13th Floor" (available at http://DukesOfDaville.bandcamp.com), how they feel about the current music industry and many other interesting things! There are new episodes of Black Agenda Report and Direct EFX segments this week. This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of December 1, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary this week focused on what seems to be the week of knocking down the "Magic Negro" mystique (yet not wanting to really deal with competant and human tendencies in Black People) in mainstream media with the coverage of Tiger Woods' infidelity and U.S. President Barack Obama's Speech on escalating the war front in Afghanistan. We also touched on World AIDS Day along with some other things here and there. We had another great interview this week with author, political strategist, econonomist, journalist and business consultant Cedric Muhammad (http://www.CedricMuhammad.com). We talked about his latest book series, "The Entrepreneurial Secret: Starting A Business Without A Bank Loan, Collateral or Revenue" (http://www.theEsecret.com) with questions on everything from who is the audience he's reaching out for with this work, how the book's information ties into the current national and international economy today, the Hip-Hop Generation and business, some of the stereotypes about how to start a successful business, having a good team behind you for success, some of his other past & current ventures (including writing the weekly Hip-HopPreneur article series for AllHipHop.com) and other things! This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of November 17, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary this week focused on the terrible situation with the death of 5 year old Shaniya Davis in North Carolina, Sammy Sosa's obvious issues with skin color (SMH at the bleaching scenario saying it was a "skin softening treatment") and how that reflects on the ingrained "if you're Black, get back" physical mentality along with some other things here and there. We had another great interview this week with author, businessman & activist Professor Devin Robinson (http://www.DevinRobinson.com) of Going Against The Grain Group (http://www.IAmGoingAgainstTheGrain.com), Taking it Black University (http://www.TakingItBackBlack.com) and The Black Hair Project. We touched base on the current 1 week national U.S. boycott of non-Black owned Beauty Supply stores and how that ties into what Prof. Robinson calls a constant "economic hate crime" that occurs all over the United States to the Black Community in regards to the road blocks in establishing one's own businesses in comparison to other ethnic groups, the exchange of money within the community and other things here and there! This is the FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of August 20, 2008 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul music, news and commentary. This week we had a on point interview with author Douglas A. Blackmon for his book, "Slavery By Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II" (now currently out on Doubleday Books), which "brings to light one of the most shameful chapters in American history—when a cynical new form of slavery was resurrected from the ashes of the Civil War and re-imposed on hundreds of thousands of African-Americans until the dawn of World War II" by throwing Black Men, Women and Childresn into prison in the South for labor purposes under false pretenses to be arrested. Feel free to hit him up the official book website, http://www.slaverybyanothername.com. Due to the interview, there is no new segment of Black Agenda Report and no Direct EFX segment (due to summer break for colleges).
