Is generosity dead? That may seem like a bleak question, but has the me-first mentality consumed the spirit of self-sacrifice? The church has been called to be generous, but what does that mean? As we conclude the series “Start Here” this Sunday at 10:30am, we will learn that generosity includes so much more than stewardship of physical wealth. Will you join us in this intriguing discussion about this impactful characteristic of authentic Jesus-followers?

How was the topic of race handled in your household? Something you've always discussed or an area that typically went untouched? Meredith and Cindy Palomo are a super cool lesbian couple living in the Kansas City area. They recently paused a three-year endeavor as foster parents. They're lucky to have three amazing daughters, aged 20, 17, and 3. They have a passion for sharing what they know about trauma-informed care, and have a deep belief that every child deserves to grow up with a connection to their roots, biological and otherwise.Meredith Palomo and Lauren Wiggins are sisters and grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City. Now mothers, each living in a city with a rich activist culture, they've started grappling again with what it means to be bi-racial, black, and women and what they hope to share with their children about their experiences. On this episode of OTC, these wonderful women come together to discuss these experiences and their plans for bringing up their children after having reflected on their own childhoods. If this is your first time with OTC, check out Season 1 Episode 1: START HERE for more background on the show.Visit www.truecolorscast.com for more show info and join the community on Instagram to continue the conversations!

Question: MTHFR, Depression, Irritability, and AnxietySo, if someone has an MTHFR snip, they don't have enough methylfolate. And so if they're treating it with methylfolate, the methylfolate causes the depression, irritability, and anxiety, then that's one thing. Whereas, if they have the MTHFR snip, they're not doing anything about it and they have depression, irritability, anxiety, that's another thing. So, if they're not doing anything about it and they have those problems, then it's probably from under-methylation. If they're supplementing methylfolate and that's causing the depression, irritability and anxiety, then my guess is that that is a temporary transient over-methylation state. That is a result of the body being adapted to a low methylfolate state and suddenly switching to a high methylfolate state. And I think the key to getting through that is to take small doses of the methylfolate and equilibrate to the lowest dose. This is my "Start Here for Methylation" page I mentioned: https://chrismasterjohnphd.com/blog/2019/03/01/start-here-for-mthfr-and-methylation If you would like to be part of the next live Ask Me Anything About Nutrition, sign up for the CMJ Masterpass, which includes access to these live Zoom sessions, a private discussion group, premium features on all my content, and hundreds of dollars of exclusive discounts. Do you like to create a budget? Even though I know they are important, I still don’t like to do them. As solopreneurs, sometimes we can let important tasks like budgeting fall by the wayside. That’s why I’ve come up with 10 best practices to help take the pain out of budgeting. These tips will help you stay on track in your business so that you can create the life that you want. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Your vision for your business [1:32] Separating your business and personal expenses [3:03] Automating your expenses [5:05] 10 best practices to take the pain out of budgeting for solopreneurs What is your vision? It may not seem like vision has a place when creating a budget, but when your vision is clear your decisions are easy. This is why you need to define your vision first before you even begin your budget. Where are you going in your business? What are you offering? Who are your ideal clients? Separate your business and personal expenses. Do yourself a favor and set up separate business and personal checking accounts and credit cards. This will make it so much easier to track your cashflow. (click here to listen to the cashflow episode!) Run an annual budget and break it into monthly expenses. Make sure to account for emergency savings and big-ticket items when creating your annual budget so they don’t spring up on you unexpectedly. Run an annual estimate of revenues. Bill everyone on the same day each month. This will help you estimate when to expect those revenues. Pay your quarterly tax estimates. You don’t want taxes to become a burden at the end of the year. Save for retirement. Even if it is a small amount, just get started saving. You’ll thank yourself later. Set up an emergency fund for your business. You never know what’s going to happen so you’ll want to make sure that you have 6-12 months’ worth of expenses to fall back on. Automate your business expenses. Setting up automatic payments for your expenses is easy and will save you time. Seek advice. Being a solopreneur can be a lonely journey, do you have a mentor to help you through? A mentor can offer advice to help you through the challenges. You’ll also want to get financial advice from your CPA, tax professional, or financial advisor. Revisit your budget quarterly. Set a quarterly meeting with yourself to make sure that you are keeping your vision in mind. Create a budget to help you stay on track Budgeting is a continuous work in progress and can change with your business. However, you need to have a clear vision of where you want to go so that your budget can help you create the life you really want. What is your vision? THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY. START HERE. THE FIRST OF THE SERIES.In this episode, Shay introduces her story by sharing some of the critical moments that helped define her childhood. To give her feelings context, she explains her journey through the concept of boxes. People use these boxes for many reasons. For classification, for protection, even to file things away we don’t understand. Early on, Shay realized that she didn’t fit into the boxes that society put her in. She was different, and she wasn’t sure what that meant. Everyone around her thought she was going through a phase, but Shay knew that it was more than that. Society’s boxes on gender felt too confining. Find out how Shay worked through this in this intimate conversation with her friend and counsel, Jeremiah Dace.Cast: Shay Potter, Jeremiah DaceKey Themes:Boxes are common, but unhelpful ways to categorize things we don’t understand.Gender dysphoria can add to the confusion of puberty.Inner feelings are difficult to communicate, especially when they are not widely accepted.Parents must constantly be in-tune to their child’s emotional state.Deal with it. Compartmentalization has damaging long-term effects.Best Quotes:2:47 — “Boxes are all around us. We check them on applications, forms and all through our daily lives, especially when we classify ourselves into like groups. For example, am I male, or female? Gay, or straight? What if I’m neither? Can I be somewhere in between?”12:28— “How do we get unstuck? How do we navigate the dark tunnels seemingly leading to nowhere? How do we stop feeling pulled, twisted and jerked around until we fit neatly within neat categories, groups, labels, yes boxes, we were never meant to fit into?”16:25 — “Mentally, I am on both spectrums. I can fluidly move between both and that’s where I’m most comfortable.”21:35 — “By the time I was in my 20’s I was trapped inside someone I didn’t even know.”EPISODE 4 will be released on 15 Oct, the official release of the podcast!!ALL NEW EPISODES will drop EVERY THURSDAY until the finale episode.Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, Deezer, or on your favorite podcast platform.
