He holds the highest rank possible in Canada's Public Service, the equivalent of an Under-Secretary in the US. He speaks English and French with the same ease, has lived in 13 places across Canada, visited every part of the country, has written legislation that will be in place for generations, led one of the greatest National Parks systems in the world, and has played a role in helping shape how Canada faces some of its most challenging questions. He is also the first ever federal government Deputy Minister (equivalent to an Undersecretary in the United States) to be of Chinese-Canadian ancestry.By birth, Mr. Quan-Watson is of Chinese-Canadian, Irish and Polish ancestry.
