The project aims to support the Cherokee County Justice Center's needs, including indigent defense and accountability courts. Renovations will include new lighting, HVAC, and updated interiors, with the former sanctuary space used for meetings and court graduations. The Democratic ticket of former vice president Joe Biden and the junior U. S. senator from California Kamala Harris defeated the incumbent Republican president Donald Trump, and vice president Mike Pence. The election took place against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic and related recession. The election saw the highest voter turnout by percentage since 1900. Biden received more than 81 million votes, the most votes ever cast for a candidate in a U. S. presidential election.In a competitive primary that featured the most candidates for any political party in the modern era of American politics, Biden secured the Democratic presidential nomination. Biden's running mate, Harris, became the first African-American, first Asian-American, and third female vice presidential nominee on a major party ticket. Trump secured re-nomination, getting a total of 2,549 delegates, one of the most in presidential primary history, in the Republican primaries. Jo Jorgensen secured the Libertarian presidential nomination with Spike Cohen as her running mate, and Howie Hawkins secured the Green presidential nomination with Angela Nicole Walker as his running mate.The central issues of the election included the public health and economic impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; civil unrest in reaction to the police murder of George Floyd and others; the Supreme Court following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett; and the future of the Affordable Care Act. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a record number of ballots were cast early and by mail. Thirty-eight states had over half of all votes cast using these methods, and only three states had fewer than 25%.Many more registered Democrats voted by mail than registered Republicans. As a result of a large number of mail-in ballots, some swing states saw delays in vote counting and reporting; this led to major news outlets delaying their projection of Biden and Harris as the president-elect and vice president-elect until the morning of November 7. Major media networks project a state for a candidate once there is high statistical confidence that the outstanding vote would be unlikely to prevent the projected winner from ultimately winning that state.Biden received the majority in the Electoral College with 306 electoral votes, while Trump received 232. Trump was the first president to lose re-election since George H. W. Bush in 1992. Key to Biden's victory were his wins in the Democratic-leaning Rust Belt states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which Trump narrowly carried in 2016 and whose combined 46 electoral votes were enough to swing the election to either candidate. Biden also became the first Democrat to win a presidential election in Georgia since 1992 and in Arizona since 1996, as well as Nebraska's 2nd congressional district since 2008.Before, during, and after Election Day, Trump and numerous other Republicans engaged in an aggressive and unprecedented attempt to subvert the election and overturn the results, falsely alleging widespread voter fraud and trying to influence the vote-counting process in swing states in what has been described as an attempted self-coup d'état. Attorney General William Barr and officials in each of the 50 states found no evidence of fraud (widespread or otherwise) or irregularities in the election. Federal agencies overseeing election security said it was the most secure in American history. The Trump campaign and its allies, including Republican members of Congress, continued to attempt to overturn the results of the election by filing numerous lawsuits in several states (most of which were withdrawn or dismissed), spreading conspiracy theories alleging fraud, pressuring Republican state election officials (including, notably, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in a phone call that later became widely publicized) and legislators to change results, pressuring the Department of Justice to declare the election "corrupt" and intervene, objecting to the Electoral College certification in Congress, and refusing to cooperate with the presidential transition of Biden. With Trump vowing that he would never concede the election and after exhorting his followers to "fight like hell", a mob of Trump supporters attacked the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, during the joint session of Congress held to certify the Electoral College count. On January 7, Trump acknowledged the incoming administration without mentioning Biden's name. Biden and Harris were inaugurated on January 20, 2021; in a break from tradition, Trump did not attend his successor's inauguration. Seeing Bruce Springsteen perform is something I've wanted to do since "Born in the USA" was blaring on the radio when I was a kid - or from my cassette player. Well, I missed him on his mini-tour with VP Kamala Harris yesterday in Clarkston, but I got to listen to it on the drive back from South Carolina, so it'll have to do. I have some of his music & statements to review. So it turns out the right wing trope about "illegal voters" is much ado about nearly nothing. Or 9 total, in Georgia, and none since 2012, or maybe twenty tops, and at worst, 156 illegally registered. A rounding error in a state with 8.2 million voters. That's the findings in an exhaustive audit performed by the Georgia Secretary of State' office. Also, drilling in on the latest AJC/UGA polling data for Georgia's electorate, I found it really interesting just how many self-professed "conservative" voters are breaking towards Kamala Harris. Note: it's way more than black men for Trump.

In deep blue California and New York, Democratic and Republican candidates fight over a handful of House districts that could determine who controls Congress.
Today's show opens with a reminder about Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech after the death of Hamas leader Sinwar and how Israel will keep people safe who surrender and turn over the hostages. But, those who don't will be hunted down. Over the weekend, 100s of Hamas terrorists did just that, surrendered. Troubles deepen for former J6 Reality TV star Cassidy Hutchinson and Liz Cheney. Looks like a handwriting expert has Hutchinson perjuring herself and Liz likely knew it. Kamala is trying a new tactic. In an effort to appear “strong” she is screaming about not allowing Donald Trump to get back behind the Presidential Seal. It's reminiscent of Hillary Clinton. On top of that, over the weekend, someone at her rally yelled, “Jesus is Lord,” and she openly mocked that person and, by way of extension, all Christians. Even a political analyst on Fox News said it should be a campaign killing response. On the flip side, JD Vance handled a similar comment in a completely different way. When someone yelled, “Jesus is King,” JD not only acknowledged the comment, but also agreed with it. 60 Minutes is still trying to avoid giving up a transcript of the Kamala Harris interview, showing how they manipulated the edit to help her. They keep saying they did nothing wrong, but then refuse to release the transcript. Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) was asked about people mocking his hunting photo-op and he said he can shoot better than anyone and has the trophies to prove it. Okay, Elmer Fudd, whatever you say. Anne Hathaway reminds us the only topic Kamala Harris owns is the ides of killing a baby up to (and maybe even shortly after) the moment is born. The fear-mongering around being a parent really needs to be addressed in this nation. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was on Face the Nation on CBS and told them 75% of the votes cast in Georgia will be counted on election night, but the rest of the votes would not come in until Friday because they are going to be coming from mail-in ballots from out of the country. Is he serious?? Donald Trump kept his promise of working the fry machine at a McDonald's. The Left is trying to mock him for it, but it only shows us how badly they are losing this race. He's having a great time and the Harris campaign is having a meltdown. Finally, Elon Musk weighs-in on just how bad government bureaucracy really is. While it's funny to hear, it's also really sad and frustrating to see how out-of-control we have allowed the Federal government to become. Located at 134 Ficklen Church Way, the 12,000-square-foot facility includes a fire station, apparatus bays, and a community room. The event featured speeches from local officials, a ceremonial hose uncoupling, and demonstrations of firefighting techniques. Over 200 community members attended, enjoying tours, games, and refreshments. The new station replaces the old Fire Station 13, enhancing emergency services with modern equipment and increased staffing. The facility is designed to serve the community for 50-100 years. STORY 3: Cherokee County Elections Board Names New Chair The Cherokee County Board of Elections and Registration appointed Glenn Johnson as the new board chair on September 23. Johnson, a Republican attorney from Canton, was unanimously selected after previous motions for other candidates failed due to party-line splits. Board member Julie Glade, a Democrat, praised Johnson's intelligence and mediation skills, believing he will foster cooperation. Johnson's appointment followed three split votes for other candidates, including Larry Hand and Mike Landrum, both Republicans, and Tony Harrison, an independent. The case, investigated by Holly Springs Police, involved testimony from seven witnesses, including experts and the victim. Despite being 16 at the time of the crime, Jennings was charged as an adult. The victim, now 14, and his mother spoke at the sentencing, highlighting the lasting impact of the abuse. The court acknowledged the victim's bravery and imposed the minimum sentence due to Jennings' age at the time of the offense. Georgia's election board on Friday approved new rules requiring poll workers to count the number of paper ballots by hand after voting is completed. Superior Court Judge Karen Beyers set the bond, which led to Monroy's release early Thursday. He faces charges including malice murder, feticide, and aggravated assault related to Campos' death on July 14. Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson expressed disappointment with the bond decision, citing the severity of the crime and the loss of both mother and child. Monroy's defense argued for bond, citing his lack of prior convictions and offering conditions like house arrest and GPS monitoring. STORY 2: Gwinnett Sheriff Makes 47 Arrests in Surenos Gang Investigation The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office announced 47 arrests connected to the Surenos gang after a nine-month investigation. The probe, which involved surveillance, undercover operations, and collaboration with various agencies, revealed the gang's ties to Mexican drug cartels and their activities in firearm and narcotics trafficking. Authorities seized over $300,000 in cash, 14 firearms, nearly 200 kilos of methamphetamine, 37 kilos of cocaine, and 300 fentanyl pills. Charges include narcotics trafficking, illegal firearm possession, and racketeering. The investigation involved numerous partner agencies and underscores the ongoing effort to combat violent drug trafficking in the community. STORY 3: Lawrenceville Teen Earns Girl Scout Gold Award By Helping Pediatric Patients Sarah Gruber, a Lawrenceville Girl Scout, used her Girl Scout Gold Award project to aid hospitalized children by donating 17 handmade IV lily pads to Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children's Hospital in Memphis. These lily pads, which she designed and crafted over 500 hours, help pediatric patients move more easily with their IVs. Gruber also created 525 coloring kits for the children. Her project not only supports the hospital but also teaches other teens to replicate the effort in their communities. The Gold Award honors Scouts who create impactful, sustainable projects, and Gruber's work will enhance the hospital experience for young patients. BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Voter Card Debacle Drives Wedge Between Elections Offices A recent oversight led to the distribution of incorrect precinct cards to Cobb voters, causing a dispute between the Georgia Secretary of State's Office and the Cobb Elections Office. The inaccurate information was initially attributed to the Secretary of State's office by Cobb Elections Director, Tate Fall. However, this claim was refuted by Mike Hassinger from the Secretary of State's Office, who stated that it was the Cobb Elections Office's responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the dispatched cards. Fall admitted to the error, citing her newness in the role and unfamiliarity with the process as reasons. She clarified that while the Secretary of State's Office printed the cards, her office oversaw their distribution. The error occurred because the data used for printing was extracted before the precinct lines were updated by Cobb Elections. While both offices acknowledge some responsibility for the error, they agree that the primary goal is to ensure voters have accurate information. Fall confirmed that the mistake has been identified, rectified, and informed to the voters. STORY 2: Biden, Trump romp to primary victories in Georgia In the recent Georgia Democratic Primary, President Joe Biden clinched a resounding victory, securing renomination with an impressive 96% of votes cast. On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump also emerged victorious in a decisive win, although he has yet to secure the nomination. This result paves the way for a repeat contest between Biden and Trump, marking the first such occurrence since 1956. Despite the high-profile nature of the election, voter turnout was relatively low. It is estimated that only around 10% of registered voters participated in the primary. This trend aligns with historical precedents, as the last instance of a former president running for the White House dates back to 1912, and the most recent example of an ex-president challenging an incumbent was in 1892. STORY 3: Smyrna Man Accused of Fatal Stabbing Surrenders to Police Randy Graham, a 50-year-old resident of Smyrna, voluntarily surrendered to the authorities following an alleged incident in which he fatally stabbed 40-year-old Herman Robinson. The incident occurred near Wellstar Windy Hill, prompting a response from the Cobb County Police who discovered Robinson suffering from multiple stab wounds. Unfortunately, Robinson was later pronounced dead at Kennestone Medical Center. Graham initially left the crime scene but subsequently contacted 911 to turn himself in. The investigation into this case remains active, with the Cobb County Police Department urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Robinson's family has been notified of his tragic demise. Currently, Graham is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. He is facing several charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony. She expressed gratitude to those involved in the process and reassured residents that their feedback is highly valued. STORY 5: Residents Flood Commission with Criticism Over Stormwater Fee Residents have voiced their opposition to a proposed stormwater fee put forth by the Cobb Board of Commissioners, raising concerns over potential double taxation and financial stress. Chairwoman Lisa Cupid has defended the fee, arguing that it is equitable as it is tied to the area of impervious surfaces that contribute to stormwater problems. The proposed fee would differ for residential and non-residential properties, with fees for residential properties expected to range between $2 to $12 per month. Critics contend that this fee would place undue burden on tenants and unfairly target certain subdivisions. Commissioners JoAnn Birrell and Keli Gambrill are against the fee, citing issues related to water transfer and questioning its effectiveness in addressing stormwater challenges. PC News The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Georgia Presidential Primary is swiftly approaching - tomorrow is the last day to register. To be eligible to register, you must meet certain criteria: be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of the county, and at least 17 and a half years old (though you must be 18 to vote). Additionally, individuals serving a felony sentence or deemed mentally incompetent by a judge are ineligible to register. The events were allegedly organized through an Instagram account called Project 85. McCullock, identified as the organizer, was arrested and charged with organizing illegal street racing and being a participant or spectator in such exhibitions. Currently the 13th Amendment says, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."Plus, court records released recently have caused questions to swirl about just how secure the Dominion Voting machines are here in Georgia. At issue is the software that has been deemed by cybersecurity experts as being "vulnerable." Georgia Secretary of State officials say any updates will have to wait until after the 2024 presidential election.
