We had the pleasure of meeting our next guest, Karen Golightly, at her super cool little home on the edges of Memphis. Her home has a warm and vibrant atmosphere, with art taking over the walls, cool furniture, and an array of 100 small pots, succulents, and trinkets of art on her porch wall. We set up the jar on her kitchen table, which looked like it had been around for over a hundred years.Karen was born in Mobile, Alabama, and she has that Delta southern accent that she can turn on and off at will. She has one brother named Rusty, who is a lawyer and still practices. He was also her sports coach for all of her sports growing up, and while she looks back fondly on her memories of Mobile, she had the desire to get out of the small town. We laughed as she shared that she didn't have any Chinese food until she was 17. She ended up in Memphis for school and then started a journey of fun and education that brought her to Australia, Europe, and ultimately achieving her doctoral degree, before finding her way back to Memphis. Along the way, she even became an author.Karen talked about the one that got away, who in the end turned out to be a blessing in disguise, and how this is so often the lesson in life. She shares her story about starting "Paint Memphis" with four other people more than 10 years ago, and the fun and learning around that, and what it's like to have an art nonprofit and have fun turn of events. She knows one of our guests from New York, Mr. Renda Writer. We were fascinated by Karen's story and her positive outlook on life. She shared her life mantra, which she got from her father, "shoot your shot" and have no regrets. It's a great reminder to take risks and go after what you want in life. Join us as Karen shares her life journey, navigating through the jar, and providing insights and advice that we can all benefit from. For more of Karen Visit: PaintMemphis.orgFor more of The Jar, visit:Website: https://www.thejar.live/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Disclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. Having issues loosing weight? Having issues building muscle or seeing results in the gym? Your hormones could be playing a big roll in all of that. Today I'm joined by Dr. Carleigh who is a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.Dr. Golightly discovered naturopathic medicine through her own struggles with crippling anxiety, hormonal imbalance, and IBS. Frustrated with the pills and lack of guidance her doctors offered, she began to look outside the box seeking the truth about what it really means to be healthy. Through years of personal research, a relentless pursuit of optimal nutrition, and evidence-based supplementation, she was able to overcome her own health issues. It was that experience that inspired her to become a Naturopathic Doctor and help others do the same. Today on the show we have Meg Golightly, home organizing expert, and founder of Simplified. For Meg, home organizing is not just about putting things in their place. She says, "My interest in home organization has evolved from a lifelong fascination with how our brains work reinforced by my degree in psychology and my ongoing interest in neuroscience.” She believes we all have reasons as to why we hang on to things. And everybody struggles with clutter. Everybody. However, there's a cost to clutter. And that we can't get to where we want to be until we let go. And so, Meg does more than just show us how to organize — she goes deeper. There's one important step she believes we all must do before we organize, and she shares it in this conversation. She also offers tips on where and how to start in the organizing process, as well as the three questions she has her clients answer before starting the organizing process. We also talk about how find her favorite organizing tools; why she creates “towns” for her stuff at home; and finally, she shares expert ways to organize a pantry. We all know how much we love seeing a well-organized pantry! If you're ready to make space in your home — both literally and figuratively — this conversation for you. In this episode, host Aaron Salvato and three of his classmates from Western seminary sit down to discuss theological concepts surrounding the love and holiness of God's character. Aaron frames this episode as an experience of"secondhand seminary", a gateway into learning and diving deeper into one's faith. Aaron explains that historically, this concept has helped him grow in his walk with Christ through listening to friends and mentors who attended seminary share the things they were learning: "It would inspire me to go read some of the books that they were reading or listen to some of the lectures from theologians that they were benefiting from. I called it second-hand seminary, and it massively helped me grow as a young pastor." Aaron and his classmates, Johnny Golightly, Jon Markey, and Austin Palmer, are part of a cohort led by Professor Gerry Breshears, whom Aaron describes as "one of the best theological minds of our time! Gerry is a jedi master… a founding board member of the Bible Project and a longtime theology professor at Western seminar… despite his vast knowledge, he's a humble and intensely caring prof who pushes his students to dive deeper and fall more in love with Jesus!” Although Aaron and his classmates had hoped to make this a multiple part series, they were not able to due to their busy schedules. Despite this, we believe that this episode still contains a lot of great conversation that will give listeners an opportunity to be a fly on the wall listening in to a conversation between seminary students sharing ideas about the faith, the character of God, and the way of Jesus. If you're interested in deepening your faith and learning more about the love and holiness of God's character, this episode is for you! ----- LINKS Dr. Joe Holden on Seminary, Biblical Authority and Holding Fast to Inerrancy - Great episode from Brian Brodersen Calvary Chapel: Seminary & Anti-intellectualism - Helpful content from CGN Mission & Methods podcast More podcasts from us featuring Gerry!
