And now please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance
In this episode, Dan and Dana discuss "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky". McCoy takes center stage in this episode. The guys talk about how a computer once again causes Kirk and company some new challenges that could affect McCoy's romance. There are colorful costumes, an asteroid that is actually a ship, and an old guy pushing "herbs". And, of course, there is a fair bit of rambling... We'd love to hear from you! Soon after Dr. McCoy is diagnosed with a rare disease that leaves him with one year to live, the Enterprise encounters Yonada, an asteroid that's on a collision course with an inhabited planet. But as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock soon discover, Yonada is not an asteroid, but is instead a spaceship designed to look like an asteroid -- a fact that its own people don't even know. That's where Dr. McCoy meets and becomes smitten with the High Priestess, Natira, leading him to stay behind and live out the rest of his days with her. But if time is running out for McCoy, it's also running out for the people of Yonada. If Kirk and Spock cannot figure out how to put Yonada back on course, they will have to blow it out of the sky in order to save billions from annihilation. For the first time in "Star Trek," DeForest Kelley shines in a love story for McCoy and is terrific with guest star Katherine Woodville. But instead of being a great episode, "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" is merely a good and -- dare we say it? -- "touching" one that reveals a little-seen side of Dr. McCoy. In this episode of Trekking Through Compliance, we consider the episode For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky which aired on November 1, 1968, Star Date Unknown. McCoy calls Kirk to sickbay and informs him that the ship's Chief Medical Officer (himself) has contracted an incurable fatal disease called xenopolycythemia and has only one year to live. However, McCoy assures Kirk that he will still be able to do his job until the end. Suddenly, the Enterprise is attacked and diverts and determines their point of origin, an asteroid 200 km in diameter, which is actually a nuclear-powered spaceship on a collision course with planet Daran V. The inhabitants do not know that they are on a spaceship, except for one old man who had climbed a mountain when he was young and intones "For the world is hollow and I have touched the sky." After uttering this, the oracle punishes the old man with death by means of a subcutaneous "instrument of obedience." They are able to put the ship back on course. They also discover databanks of the Fabrini containing a great deal of medical knowledge, including the cure for McCoy's xenopolycythemia. Compliance Takeaways: 1. How do you manage? 2. Executives having skin in compliance. 3. As a compliance professional, do you have empathy? Resources Excruciatingly Detailed Plot Summary by Eric W. For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky was the eighth episode of Star Trek's third season to air, with a displaced civilisation unknowingly on course to destroy an inhabited world. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss the difference between known unknowns and unknown unknowns. Intercepting an asteroid bound to destroy the world of Daran V, the Enterprise crew discover it is in fact an ancient spaceship containing a population unaware that they are not in fact on a planet themselves. Led by High Priestess Natira (Katherine Woodville), they are ignorant of their world's true nature. When Natira takes a romantic interest in the recently-diagnosed-as-terminally-ill McCoy, it seems the doctor may choose to live out his days on the asteroid-ship, but a new discovery shows him it may be possible to save the colonists as well as the people of Daran V. For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky was directed by Tony Leader, his only Star Trek episode. The writer was Hendrik Vollaerts, the third of his four for the show. In this episode Gerry and Iain considered whether a McCoy love story was overdue or unnecessary. The discussion continues in the comments below and please keep in touch with us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram where we're @trekpodcast. We're coming out of our shell this week as we explore “For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky"!Author Greg Cox returns to the show this week to discuss an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series that is full to bursting with innovative sci-fi ideas. The Enterprise has discovered an ancient civilization living in a hollow asteroid generation ship. Can Kirk and crew save the unknowing inhabitants from their fate or will they---and Dr. McCoy---see their journey end in destruction? The short run of the Original Series was marked by unbridled creativity, with many episodes presenting multiple, original premises that made the nascent universe of Trek feel living and lived in. Supported by the work of contemporary sci-fi authors and creators, Star Trek delivered prime-time escapism that challenged the existing paradigm of sci-fi television. On this episode, we discuss the way in which TOS reflected the unbridled creativity of '60s sci-fi, what makes a TOS story, layering multiple premises into a single episode, the attraction of generation ship stories, using religion as a mollifying social force, the technological status quo of the Trek galaxy, and the Original Series' real opinion of utopias. We also discuss adding cyborgs to TOS, whether or not Catwoman can fly a helicopter, the lack of CPR in Trek, getting married for the hospice care, "have typewriter, will travel", thumbing your nose at the Nuclear Age, classic full-sentence episode titles, pandemic storytelling, an "evenness of difference", having Trek as your only credit, VHS board games, fascinating failures like Lynch's Dune, "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex", how to tell your congregation your god is just a computer, and once again we play the Starlost game!Never promise to marry the alien priestess!Get Greg's new novel, "A Contest of Principles"!https://amzn.to/3gbm2hWLearn the story behind your favorite Trek stories with BackTrekking!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkingHide out with us on Facebook and Twitter and the Just Enough Trope Discord!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttp://www.twitter.com/eistpodhttps://discord.gg/ATMBeUDBuy us a new god on Patreon and Ko-Fi!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodhttps://ko-fi.com/E1E01M2UASubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2

We are great fans of sci-fi and would like to invite you on our journey through the weird and strange worlds that we are to explore… Today’s episode: What do you do if you have a dying doctor and a generation ship that's on a collision course with an inhabited world? You let the doctor live on the generation ship of course! Also there's something about sacred cults set up by those who sent out the ship originally and hidden tech manuals that might come in handy. This week, we're staying true to our roots and kicking things off with a Theatre Warm-up. The crew explains why McCoy never thinks back on the love of his life. We then proceed to mix up some actresses, probably because our eyes are fifty wide shades of shut. We finally figure out who won the large American football sports championship. Minh digs up one of Matt's painful trivia-related memories. We get some wisdom from Douglas Adams and shamelessly cheat when choosing our own adventure. And finally, Matt delivers the finishing blow on this episode by running a correction on his night moves. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Evolution… It began in Africa. Beware the first 35 minutes are naughty, one could say raunchy.. If you play it at work, it is at your own peril.. This is NOT background music for your sunday lunch if the folks are visiting.. Naughty, Deep n' Sexy and rhythmic episode. We start in Chicago and Detroit, where House began, then slowly incorporate rhythmic roots from Africa, where " it all began", to finally fuse it up with Latin and Brazilian influences , all throughout with a distinct naughty undertone. The set is both a challenge and an experiment, hence the title “Evolution… It began in Africa “. A challenge, for I wanted to try rhythms and musical colours I usually shy away from. An experiment, for I tried to build the set without looking at the beatgrid as a "beast" I needed to "tame". In all fairness, with these percussions and syncopated beats, the visual beatgrid is normally useless. Yet, without the comfort of the software finding the beatgrid, I had to dig deep and feel when, where and how to blend in the different layers of sounds I wanted to play with. A challenge to say the least.. but I wanted to learn how to do it before going back to the security and bliss of pure soulful house.. The first half hour is resolutely naughty to hook some of the listeners. Then, we dive into the rhythmic part with just enough sugar not to lose too many of you, to finally we settle in South America, a musical space I usually hardly cover. There are treasures buried deep into the mix and I will re-use some of them in my next set, which I promise, will NOT be a challenge but just a fun, upfront house, happy episode. Do not be taken aback with “It began in Africa”.. I really had to go there before dwelling back in my normal space. For this podcast to remain fun for me to do, I need to try new things and to…yes.. Jorge Montia Highlights: not sure everyone will like the first 35 minutes but I sure had fun with the samples.. "Can You Feel It" is smooth deep and sexy house. I personally love the rhythmic rendition of Dennis Ferrer's classic "Touched The Sky" the remixer on Soundcloud shifted the key. It is slightly off key and pure genius! "Domination" from Euphonik has all the wholemark of a future classic. " Mi Ma Bo" at the junction of Latin, Maanzi and pure house is the track that insipred the set. Do not miss "Yesterday's Gone" from Spiritchaser and the new Sandy Rivera with Kings of Tomorrow "Show Me".. I will resuse them both shortly. They should not be buried in a somewhat personal set like this one. I hope some of you will actually stay with me on this one and I absolutely promise that the next one with just be FUN. Xtian
