Since they started making music together in 2023, Cincinnati-based trio Alex Kasznel & the Board of Directors have developed a sound some call "surprisingly un-whiny," a style they affectionately refer to as "pop punk for grownups." Their debut album Everything's Important & Nothing Matters was released in May of 2023, and was followed up by 2 EPs: 2023's Parachute and 2024's Board Music for Bored People. The Board of Directors are working hard to foster a stronger music scene in their hometown and surrounding areas, and are always eager for opportunities to reach a wider network of audiences and other bands alike to further that mission. They have played in cities across 15 states, and have self-produced The Company Picnic Music Festival. The DIY trio are known for their energetic and witty stage presence, and their catchy music and clever lyrics. The BoD finished out 2024 with a new EP release, and have more news coming from the Boardroom soon!
Haven't been in a great head space recently, but here we go. This episode is really just me venting and, likely, a ton of verbal vomit. Keeping it real for ya, as always. Enjoy the show.

Our culture constantly bombards us with products, ideas and approaches that promise to heal us, cure us, make us whole, and take away the pain of life entirely. We are led to believe that we are only one change away from the life we've always felt like we should be living, and that we need only to find the right book, program, or product to help us get there. But what if the truth is that nothing can heal us? What if nothing will work? And what if this might actually be the good news we're looking for? This is the theory behind the upcoming book from philosopher, theologian, and author Peter Rollins, who joins Dom in Belfast for a conversation about nothing. Spiritual Creativity: The Magic Mavens Twenty-second Episode: Given my charmed Irish life, I'm fortunate enough to have crossed paths, at different times, with three wonderful women — Diane Wyzga, Gina Mazza, and Gail Harris. Diane was a guest on my show on November 6th, 2023. At some point, I wondered if the three of them should meet. So, I arranged a Zoom call for the four of us. From my perspective, it was like watching a fireworks display: Their energy was brilliant, spontaneous, and joyful. I dubbed them The Magic Mavens. And I invited them to join me to share their amazing energy with a wider audience. Please join us. You'll be in for a treat. The Magic Mavens are, in no particular order: Diane Wyzga: From US Navy nurse to lawyer, noted speaker to litigation consultant, and seasoned backpacking adventurer to podcaster, Diane's story is all about Falling Down 7 – Getting Up 8. For 30 years, Diane has been helping professionals take their stories from messages only they could hear to the publishing world, the courtroom, hospitals, board meetings, and the airwaves. Stories that swayed juries. Built markets. Spread ideas. Changed things. Today Diane helps professional women become successful Origin Story creators in the spirit of who they are: finding the words they didn't know they had to connect with, engage, and enliven their audiences to action while transforming the lives of those they serve. When you summon the courage to say “Yes!” that's the place where your story changes. Gina Mazza: Gina's worked and played with words professionally for nearly four decades as an award-winning journalist and author of four personal-growth books, including Everything Matters, Nothing Matters, which was praised in Publisher's Weekly. Her newest book, Essential Astonishments: Poetic Reflections for Awakening, answers the soul's longing to speak intimately about the bliss and bewilderment of the human experience. Gina's company helps writers bring forth their creative expressions, particularly in spirituality, consciousness, and wellness. Her offerings include ghostwriting, editing, publishing consulting, creative musing, book promotion and branding. She also has a background in PR and advertising, media writing, corporate communications, entrepreneurship, and the use of intuitive guidance to elucidate one's work, mission, passion, and purpose. Gail Harris: Gail is a certified ghostwriter specializing in women's memoirs and an IPNE Book Award Finalist for the memoir Finding Zoe. She collaborates with women who've risen above life's challenges and are ready to share their journeys. Gail reveres the cathartic nature of storytelling — for the authors and for those who read their stories — because the healing is universal. She finds the gold in an author's story or what sets it apart from other stories to make it marketable. Gail is also the author of the self-help book Your Heart Knows the Answer. Her company is Golden Ghostwriting. Loyal for Dogs (Loyal / Cellular Longevity) is redefining the paradigm of aging in dogs. NAD+ supplements currently on the market claim to "slow the effects of aging," and to "support health as [dogs] age," but they do not promise to extend lifespan. Nor are they FDA-approved. Loyal emphasizes that aging is the primary modifiable risk factor for most degenerative and chronic diseases in dogs. Their mission? To target the aging process itself, opening doors to healthier, longer lives for dogs. At WVC 2024, I had the chance to chat with Dr. Brennen McKenzie, Loyal's Head of Veterinary Education, and he recently joined me on Petworking to continue the discussion. We talked about the 3 pioneering drugs targeting critical molecular pathways associated with aging that Loyal has in the pipeline. These include: - LOY-002 for senior dogs (10+ years old), focusing on metabolic health to extend lifespan. - LOY-001 & LOY-003 for larger dogs (40+ lbs), targeting hormonal overexpression of IGF-1, which Loyal has linked to the shorter lifespans experienced by large dogs. Loyal is seeking FDA approval for all of these products, and by 2025, Loyal might be able to market LOY-001 under conditional approval, as the FDA has already granted "reasonable expectation of effectiveness." That means by next year, there is a significant chance that if you are a large dog owner, your veterinarian could prescribe a product that can actually extend your dog's life.

What I do know is this: It takes no effort. You decide what effort is. You have the final say. The only say. You only need to decide/ assume / imagine a thing and carry on from there. This day, right here and now, fulfillment is already being established. It can't not be. You're always experiencing fulfillment. But we get so caught up in insisting it isn't.
Have you ever sat and pondered a decision—weighing two paths—for so long that you've convinced yourself either decision would be a good and equally bad one to make? We've all done it to some degree. Whether it's over-analyzing the outcome of taking this path or that. Or maybe you wonder about what the outcome would have been and constantly live there—in the past. The thing is, we can live a what-if type of life. In this episode we drive and we talk about what it all means, if it has any meaning at all. One thing is certain: neither of us want to end up regretting the decisions we've made and will make. And the best way to do that is to live and be present as much as possible. We actually don't remember if this is even what we talked about on the podcast. But after some days of pondering things myself, this is kinda what we wish we could've articulated. If nothing matters and we're all just specks of dust floating through space and time, what's the point in trying at all? Building healthy relationships with friends and family doesn't seem worth it because, in the end, everyone you know will die anyway. All attempts at self-improvement are futile because, in the Universe's grand plan, none of it matters. Even if you're not all doom and gloom, there'll be days when getting out of bed will seem pointless. Where life itself will seem kind of pointless. And the current state of the world, with issues like the climate crisis, the rise in extreme politics, and economic instability, doesn't help our psychological state. SO many of the ills of the world are due to hurt feelings and worry over what other people say and do that we need a new motto. Let us try this, "Nothing matters." Jesus exclaims, "What is that to thee? Follow thou me.". That has nothing to do with you unless you allow it. Why do you allow yourself to worry and fuss if someone seems preferred before you ? There is enough for you to do. You have your place somewhere. What does it matter to you if your neighbor does act unneighborly ? He won't have the opportunity to hurt you unless you care. Why should you go about with an aching heart because people won't take your advice, or insist on doing things in a different way from that which you approve? Will that change them any? Suppose that some member of your family is a bit uncouth or even rude, don't you see that you are only aggravating it by "caring?" When you show your indifference, not defiantly, but by really not "allowing it to matter," you will see the things change. You say, business is going wrong and I must worry! Worry will only hasten the end. You need to save yourself so that you will have a clear mind to act in case of emergency or a change for the better. Say, "nothing matters."
