Today, I'm joined by Kathy Hart Wood, an accomplished professional golfer, top 50 golf instructor, and mindset coach.  Kathy shares her transformative journey from struggling to take her talent onto the course to becoming a mindset expert helping golfers unlock their full potential.  In today's episode, you'll learn: The power of shifting limiting beliefs to unleash your full potential on the course. Why focusing on your mindset is as critical as your swing mechanics. How perfectionism and people-pleasing tendencies can sabotage your golf game. The importance of cultivating self-awareness and curiosity about your thoughts. Why numbers on the scorecard are inherently neutral—and how to stop letting them define you. Practical tools like "ladder thoughts" and brain dumping to rewrite unhelpful beliefs. How to create your preferred emotional state to play with confidence, calmness, and certainty. Get your pencils ready and start listening.  P.S. Curious to learn more about the results my clients are experiencing and what they say about working with me? Read more here. Shifting to "It's possible I could putt well today" opened the door for dramatic improvement. Awareness First: Developing self-awareness about your recurring thoughts and emotions is the first step to meaningful change on and off the course. The Power of Neutrality: Numbers on the scorecard are neutral; it's the stories you attach to them that cause frustration or pressure. Brain Dumping for Clarity: Writing down your thoughts—even if just to throw them away—can help uncover limiting beliefs and repetitive patterns. Combatting Perfectionism: Recognizing perfectionistic tendencies allows you to bring humor and curiosity to these moments rather than judgment. Preferred Emotional States: Play your best golf by anchoring to calmness, certainty, or confidence, and redirect yourself to these states when distractions arise. Focus on Process Over Results: Detaching from the outcome and focusing on your current shot or task can free you from the pressure of perfection. Key Quotes: "You are the thinker of your thoughts; you get to pick which ones you want to keep."  "Numbers are neutral. It's the story you attach to them that makes them feel good or bad."  "Positive affirmations don't work if your brain doesn't believe them. Start with thoughts that feel possible."  "Perfectionism and people-pleasing on the course are just reflections of how you show up in life."  "Your brain is like a puppy on a leash—it will wander, but you have the power to guide it back."  "Playing golf shouldn't carry the weight of how you get to feel about yourself at the end of the day."  Time Stamps: 00:00: Kathy's Journey in Golf 02:59: The Power of Mindset in Golf 06:06: Shifting Thoughts and Beliefs 09:08: Understanding Perfectionism and People-Pleasing 11:47: The Role of Self-Awareness 14:59: Coaching Techniques and Client Empowerment 24:25: Detaching from Results in Golf 30:06: Understanding Emotions and Performance 33:21: The Impact of People Pleasing on Golf 38:37: Encouragement for Women in Golf 40:25: Proud Moments in a Golf Career

Mark, Lou, and Greg continue to take measured data from Tour swings and see what it tells us for making real improvement in our games. In this episode, Mark quizzes Greg and Lou about the elbows: particularly, how far apart Lydia Ko's elbows are at address versus at the top of the swing. Do they get closer together, further apart, or maintain the same distance? And what about one of Mark's own measured swings? You've seen training holds that either hold the elbows together (with a sleeve or a strap) or ask you to pinch a ball between your elbows. Do they work? If so, what are they trying to accomplish? Once again, you'll have thing you learn that can make you a better golfer. Olin also recounts his experiences competing in the Senior PGA Championship at Valhalla in 2011, which is also the venue for this year's PGA Championship, and the US Open at Pinehurst in 2005, the location of this year's US Open. In the second segment, I'm joined by the best to ever do it, John Patrick. John is the gold standard for what golf talk radio should sound like. We delve into Augusta National's recent property acquisitions adjacent to the Club, speculating on what their plans may be. He discusses the challenging winds that affected the tournament over Friday and Saturday, offers insights into Tiger's future and what might need to happen in order for Rory to secure a victory there. Additionally, we get into what might be causing the declining television ratings of the PGA Tour. In Part 2 of this week's show, I'm joined by SportsBox Ai Founder Jeehae Lee plus Caddie Hall of Famer Dennis Cone and former PGA of America Write & Historian Bob Denney. Jeehae Lee picked up a plastic bat at the age of 8, swung it and the next thing she knew her parents bought her a set of clubs, got her an Instructor, dropped her off at the driving range, and told her to find her way there each day after school to practice...in Seoul, South Korea...at the age of 8! She played her college golf at Yale, helped them win the 2003 & 2006 Ivy League Championships, broke 70 for the first time ever at LPGA Q-School, finished 12th, and earned her Tour card. She retired from the Tour in 2014 and became Michelle Wie's Assistant/Manager. From there she went on to be the Director of Business Strategy for Top Golf. She then started her own company called SportsBox Ai. Their software creates a 3D video of your swing taken from your cell phone. You can see your swing from every possible angle including overhead and underneath. You can overlay your good swings and bad swings to understand what was different. You can also overlay Tour Player swings and learn to swing like they do. Hear all this plus check out Sportbox Ai here: https://www.sportsbox.ai/ Dennis Cone is a Caddie Hall of Famer and the Founder of the Professional Caddie Association. We get into those questions and much more with my guests: Hall of Fame Instructor Jim McLean, former Tour Player and all-time great Analyst Frank Nobilo, the Starter at 23 US Opens Ron Read, and PGA Tour Advance Rules Official Stephen Cox. Jim McLean has been inducted into 4 Hall of Fames. His list of awards and accolades as an Instructor are too numerous to list. I get Jim's thoughts on how we can build confidence in ourselves and our game's, how to raise our play to tournament level, and the one thing we can do today to lower our scores this weekend. Frank Nobilo won 14 times around the world, he finished in the Top 10 of all 4 majors, and is now an all-time great Analyst. We discuss why PGA Tour players are overpaid, what could happen if the PIF/PGA Tour partnership doesn't go through plus, we go back to his T4 finish in the 1994 US Open at Oakmont, and what it was like being on the course at Augusta National as Greg Norman was collapsing in 1996. Ron Reed worked for the USGA for over two decades and was the Starter at the US Open from 1986 to 2010. We hear his memories of announcing Arnold Palmer in Arnie's final US Open at Oakmont in 1994, who Ron thought was the most nervous player he ever saw standing on the first tee (his answer will surprise you), being there for Payne Stewart's triumph in 1999 and Phil's heartbreak in 2006. You'll also hear the heartwarming story of presenting Tom Watson's caddie Bruce Edwards with the flag from the 17th green from the 1982 US Open. We also get the story of the beaver who halted the 1990 US Amateur Public Links tournament. Follow Ron on Twitter @golfdinosaurrr and get his book, Starting the US Open, Shinnecock to Pebble Beach online at www.ronread.com or on Amazon. Stephen Cox has been a PGA Tour Rules Official since 1997. We hear about some of the unpopular rulings he's had to give out over the years and the players who didn't agree with him. We learn about the job the Rules Officials do which goes way beyond riding around in a golf cart handing out penalties. They are responsible for course setup and playing conditions and sometimes they are working on those things a year in advance of the tournament. We also discuss the rule he thinks the USGA & R&A need to take another look at. You can follow Stephen and his peers plus send them your rules questions on Twitter @pgatourrules.
