Krueger's Christmas Tree Farm has been more than just a place to pick your own perfect tree—it's been at the heart of holiday traditions for families in the Lake Elmo and Twin Cities Minnesota area for 70 years and counting. Spanning four generations, the Krueger family has cultivated not just evergreens but cherished memories, as they continue to welcome visitors with the warmth and magic of the Christmas season. From the fresh scent of pine, the warmth of a crackling fire and hot cider, to the timeless ritual of cutting the perfect tree and pulling it on a sled through the snow, Krueger's has become a beloved part of holiday celebrations. So get cozy, as Neil, Deb and John Krueger takes us from the accidental start to selling Christmas trees in 1954, to the traditions, Tootsie Rolls, and the stories behind this family-run farm that's been keeping the spirit of Christmas alive and families returning for seven decades. In this episode, Neil talks about the varieties of trees and which ones are most popular for their needles and which ones people like best for that fresh pine scent. And they share tips for how to keep your evergreen looking its best all Christmas season with water and spritzing. Who knew the sap would seal the bottom and not absorb water anymore if we let the water run out? For the 2024 season, Krueger's has Fir—Balsam, Canaan, Fraser, Korean and Siberian—and White Pine and Norway Pine trees. Plus, you'll find gorgeous, handmade wreaths, swags, spruce tops, garland, roping and tree stands. Reservations (on their website) are required for pre-cut and cut-your-own. Krueger's is a full-service experience. If you want to cut your own tree, they'll provide you with a saw and a sled to move it. Make holiday memories sipping free hot cider and getting cozy around the blazing bonfire. Before you head home, Krueger's staff will shake the tree to remove dust, old needles, grass, etc., wrap it with a tree baler and secure it to your car. You'll also receive a gift—Krueger's custom annualized tree ornament. To reserve your tree time slot, see photos, and learn more about experiencing the farm, browse their website https://kruegerschristmastrees.com. In Russia and Kazakhstan everyone builds house with thick walls with bricks and good foundation. Even poor people don't build houses from plywood. But in America it seems that everyone, poor and rich builds extremely fragile houses. Like I can punch a wall with my knuckle. It seems so absurd. Especially with those prices that I'm hearing about, like house costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, up to a millions of dollars. I can build awesome house here for like $200K with very quality materials. Can American build a good house from bricks with very thick brick walls for a reasonable amount of money?" Nearly four decades into his practice, Dr. Joe Gryskiewicz is still doing more breast augmentations than any plastic surgeon in Minnesota. But his number one passion lies in rhinoplasty thanks to his patience and artistic skill.Dr. Gryskiewicz is a fantastic listener and generous with his time when it comes to meeting patients. It's common for his consultations to last up to two hours because he likes to take his time getting to know patients and assessing what he can do to help them love what they see in the mirror.A mission trip to Guatemala his senior year of residency solidified Dr. Gryskiewicz's decision to go into plastic surgery. He realized the artistry that went into correcting children's cleft lips and palates and has been serving on mission trips regularly since. To learn more about Dr. Joe GryskiewiczFollow Dr. Gryskiewicz on InstagramABOUT MEET THE DOCTOR The purpose of the Meet the Doctor podcast is simple. We want you to get to know your doctor before meeting them in person because you're making a life changing decision and time is scarce. The more you can learn about who your doctor is before you meet them, the better that first meeting will be.When you head into an important appointment more informed and better educated, you are able to have a richer, more specific conversation about the procedures and treatments you're interested in. There's no substitute for an in-person appointment, but we hope this comes close.Meet The Doctor is a production of The Axis. Made with love in Austin, Texas. Are you a doctor or do you know a doctor who'd like to be on the Meet the Doctor podcast? Book a free 30 minute recording session at meetthedoctorpodcast.com.

In this episode, we go over: Talk a little bit about what you guys do, you guys do a lot of cool stuff... What do you see in in the realtor side, the building side, what do you guys see in there in Minnesota with the rate hikes? What's your company's superpower, what are you guys good at? Can you go into maybe the top two things that you recommend to sellers optimizing their home listing? What's the difference in marketing a property that's been on the market a long term versus a fresh property? How do new clients typically find you, how to you market lead generation-wise? If someone were just getting started in into your industry and maybe we'll stick with just maybe the realtor side buying, selling. What advice would you give them? Where can people find you? This March at Small-Minded has been all about badass women, and I couldn't let the month pass without inviting my friend and sister-in-law, Amanda Schlemme, to the the podcast. We're both “old” now as we joke throughout the podcast, but back in the late 00s as I was in college and first dating my now-husband, his sister Amanda was living a fabulous big-city life in the Twin Cities (Minnesota). She did the whole high-heels-every-day, great Banana Republic outfits, CPA thing, and loved it. And I loved when we could get up there and visit! Amanda has always been such a role model to me, but as we've grown older and wiser, I admire her more and more every passing day. Our family has been through some STUFF to say the least, and as a result by the early 2010s Amanda, her husband Travis, and their family moved back to Cascade, our hometown. We are SO grateful to have her here, for a wealth of reasons: First off, she's my accountant- and she is brilliant. She keeps me on top of my Quickbooks (thank God), organizes SO MANY freakin' forms for me, and fields all of my “what does this mean?” questions about numbers and government agencies. Okay, so having a CPA for a close friend is AWESOME, but that is just a small part of this amazing woman. Amanda is a Swiss army knife, listeners. She's a key part of the family farm, she and her husband own and operate the local tavern and eatery, she chairs the board of the one of the coolest camps ever, and her efforts over the years have contributed to the community in such a big way. We could have talked about a million things in this episode, but oops! We ended up spending almost the whole episode on just one particular part of her life, which happens to be my personal favorite thing about Amanda - how dedicated she is as a mom. She has two incredible sons earthside, one of whom has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). At just 14 months old back in 2009, Amanda's son Colin was diagnosed with SMA type 2. This diagnosis not only dramatically altered the trajectory of Amanda's life, but it allowed her to take on big things that have a lasting ripple effect for hundreds of families of SMA. I will definitely need Amanda back for a Part 2 because I just know you will LOVE this episode, my friends. Key Takeaways After college at University of Northern Iowa Amanda worked as a CPA in the Twin Cities. It was a bit of a culture shock but they carved out a little space in the city and made friends that became family. Amanda loved learning about how different companies worked. Amanda is the mom to two boys: Eli and Colin. Colin had an appointment with a neurologist when he missed some milestones by 15 months old. He was diagnosed with SMA, which at that time, had no cure or treatment. She was told he would never walk, and to not look at the Internet for additional information. She made it two days before she deep-dived online, learning everything she possibly could. She has been such an amazing advocate for Colin, and SMA, ever since. The family made the move back to Cascade where Amanda works with the family farm and businesses including Bale Barn and Two Gingers Tavern and Eatery. Amanda chairs the board at Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa. They offer year-round camps and respite care for people with disabilities. Colin looks forward to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Camp every year and has been going since he was six. He gets to zip line, hike, swim, ride the train, and more, with the assistance of Camp and his amazing counselors. Amanda has brought our community together to raise tens of thousands of dollars for Cure SMA through Small Heroes, Mighty Cause. Since Colin's diagnosis, there are now three options for SMA treatment. Colin is an amazing old soul who loves coffee, gambling, and ESPN. He loves all sports, especially baseball, is very observant, and a great listener. He had a major spinal surgery last year but has recovered well and is in good health today. We're so grateful to have Amanda and family back in Cascade! We definitely need her back on the podcast for a Part 2! Connect with Amanda Amanda has so much going on! She is the board chair at Camp Courageous, organizes Small Heroes, Mighty Cause, and is involved in the family businesses Two Gingers Tavern and Eatery and Bale Barn. Tell us a little about yourself. I'm from Minnesota originally family typical upbringing in the suburbs career as being a chef my extensive hobby as being a gardener market gardeninggrowing up in the 80s food was sort of an after reddish so I got a degree in psychology needed to do something a little more inspiring lived in Europe for a semester in college traveled around Europe and really saw food in a different light experienced it really differently from what I had Then I decided to go to culinary school, I ended up in Vancouver BCrelatives out there as well so I came back to the twin cities Italian kitchens owners kind of moved around bit as chefs do is quite normal I also started gardening at a fairly young age early twenties I ended up dating a woman from the Ukraine, she had a strong gardening interest I had always been interested in nature as a young kidgardening with my parents but very simple, chard and green beans and that kind of thing I started working at a natural foods coop right next to a really old and thriving community garden in St Paul and that’s where I met some really great gardeners who I would call mentors One particular gardener there was a soil scientist at the university of MN, she took me under her wing learned some incredible techniques raised bed no till garden cover crops rotation One thing that really inspired me from a young age to kind of continue this and do a lot more was just witnessing the differences in her garden and other community gardens She made her community garden plot not tilled in the back row and the rest of the 90 plots were tilled once a year. In the other plots, the soil was still quite good but it was obvious she had the best looking vegetables earliest largest vegetables in that garden It was no mystery she was doing something different and right. It was from her I learned about Mycorrhizal fungi and the relationship to the plants and how important that was using those techniques I was able to follow in her footsteps in a way when she got done, working at an urban agriculture non profit in st paul, centered at gardens all over st Paul children form a market garden essentially I was able to take over that job when she was finished, working on her phd I got to be a market gardener for 3 years, all the while I was cooking at night, I couldn't do that these days, way too intense, way too much So wait, are you a rockstar millennial? I'm 42 so I'm more of an xer yeah for me For many years, I've been involved in both the culinary world and the growing world I see that they are so intermittently intertwined, and kind of dependent on each other, the communities overlap so much. I find that really inspiring, such that I was able to go to the MOSES MIDWEST Organic Conference for Organic Farming and meet a lot of great farmers and gardeners move to the country and start a land based business Alas I stayed in the city and am still working as a chef After working at some great restaurants and for some people who are superstars for natural foods local alice waters worked for this woman for 7 years, after that ended I started my own business as a personal chef, working in people’s homes cooking Monday - Friday, everyday meals, it's different from catering Gives me a lot more time on weekends and evenings being a chef is pretty awesome but the restaurant life can be hard on you, working 60 hours a week bare minimum. The end game is sort of to own your own restaurant but that takes lots of hours and lots of risk. Well, I worked at a restaurant this summer, and I told the owner over and over it's amazing what you do here. How many people they employ and the pickle guy,... Support this podcast

A positive radio show about women for women. You can always expect a great guest to be interviewed. This week Patty Tanji (pronounced Tan Gee) is joining us. She is the CEO of Open Work Place. Her company is located in Coach Jeanna's home town, "The Twin Cities" Minnesota. When she was raising her family she was challenged when working on a project that lasted until 2:00a one day. Patty had to let her manager know she had to get home and get to her family. Her manager did not understand. Thus the shift to need to work from home. Patty believes in having a voice in the workplace and focuses on leadership, pay equity, retention etc. We should be more transparent with no hidden agendas. Her best clients are companies going through change. Call her. Ladies Let's Talk is designed to have your voice heard, to learn, get motivated by others experiences. www.coachjeanna.com.
