It's Tuesday, April 28th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Timothy Reed India: 12th worst persecutor of Christians worldwide India is the twelfth worst persecutor of Christians in the world on the Open Doors World Watch List. It's largely due to the shift brought about by the joint efforts of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh organization and the BJP political party in that country. But now, the RSS General Secretary told the Hudson Institute last week, that this is a misconception. However, the Religious Liberty Commission of the Evangelical Fellowship of India reports 747 incidents of vandalisms, beatings, false arrests, church burnings, and at least one murder in 2025. This follows a rash of anti-conversion laws brought on by the ruling political parties. In November 2025, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom issued a report recommending that India be placed on the list of Countries of Particular Concern. The report noted that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party came into power 12 years ago. … India has “enforced policies that closely align with Hindutva ideology, [a political ideology establishing Hindu dominance which leads to] discriminating and disenfranchising members of India's religious minority communities.” British suicide bill failed to pass Good news! A controversial suicide bill has failed to pass the United Kingdom Parliament. The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill did not receive the support necessary to pass the House of Lords, even though it had passed the House of Commons last year. The proposed law would have granted a supposed “right” for those expected to die within six months to kill themselves. Proverbs 8:36 speaks of the wisdom of God in these words: “But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death.” Russia killed seven in two Ukrainian cities Still no end in sight for Russia's four-year war on Ukraine. Russia continued to barrage the Ukrainian cities of Dnipro and Odessa over the weekend. The BBC reports seven people were killed. Third assassination attempt on President Trump A would-be assassin, Cole Tomas Allen, got very close to the President of the United States Saturday night. Just the day before President Trump was scheduled to attend the White House Correspondents Dinner, Allen, a teacher and mechanical engineer, checked into the hotel armed with guns. At 8:30pm ET, he approached the stairway leading up to the ballroom where the president was sitting, and fired shots at security, when he was taken down by the Secret Service, reports NBC News. Authorities said an officer wearing a bullet-resistant vest was shot in the chest and is expected to recover. Allen said, “I experience rage thinking about everything this administration has done.” In 2024, according to the Federal Election Commission filings, Allen donated $25 to ActBlue with the memo “Earmarked for Harris for President,” noted JustTheNews.com. The two other would-be assassins of President Trump include 20-year-old Thomas Crooks on July 13, 2024 in Butler, Pennsylvania, who was killed by the Secret Service at a campaign rally and 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh on September 15, 2024 at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Routh was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Trump would-be assassin's motive Jeannine Pirro, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, addressed Cole Tomas Allen's motive. PIRRO: “Make no mistake. This was an attempted assassination of the President of the United States, with the defendant making clear what his intent was. And that intent was to bring down as many of the high-ranking cabinet officials as he could.” According to the New York Post, Allen was charged on Monday with trying to assassinate President Donald Trump — as officials revealed the Secret Service fired at him five times before taking him down. Karoline Leavitt: Trump's calm in chaos was “remarkable to witness” On April 27th, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared her unique perspective on the latest assassination attempt. LEAVITT: “I was seated next to President Trump and the First Lady when the shots were fired before Secret Service swiftly moved us to safety backstage. “The President's calm in the face of chaos while yet another individual was trying to take his life was really remarkable to witness. And it's something I will never forget. President Trump is fearless because he loves this country. And he is willing to put his own life on the line to deliver on the promises that he made to the American public who elected him here into the highest office in the land. … “We should not live in a country where such constant fear of political violence permeates our society every single day. Debating, peaceful protesting and voting are how we need to settle disagreements, not bullets.” The would-be assassin's connection to Christianity Cole Tomas Allen's father is reportedly an elder at Grace United Reformed Church in Torrance, California, affiliated with the United Reformed Churches of America. Allen's social media account listed his association with a Christian Fellowship group at CalTech. And his published manifesto included a note of gratitude to “his family, both personal and church, for your love over these 31 years.” Plus, the manifesto included a convoluted sort of biblical apologetic for his actions. The Wall Street Journal has also reported that Allen had coordinated a group meeting for “Bible study, prayer, food, and fellowship.” America's drought and its impact on cattle The United States is still facing its most severe drought in recorded history, dating back into the 19th century. About 90% of Oklahoma and Nebraska are feeling the brunt of our national drought. Half of Nebraska is under extreme conditions. And 99.97% of Kentucky is under drought conditions. Colorado, Georgia, and Florida have also been hit hard. The drought is impacting cattle availability. The Untired States cattle herd has diminished to its lowest numbers in history, dropping to 86.2 million this year. That's down from 115 million cattle in 1981. Cattle availability has dropped from half a cow per person to a quarter of a cow per person this year. That's liable to go quite a bit lower this year, as a result of the drought across western states. Deuteronomy 28:15, 18-19 encourages nations to obey God's laws. It says, “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: Cursed shall be the fruit of your body and the produce of your land, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.” African countries impacted by drought In related news, other nations facing severe drought conditions, in six out of the last seven years, included Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Niger, and Zimbabwe. These areas of Africa are about to tip into severe famine and mass starvation. Kenyan breaks 2-hour marathon record And finally, a son of a Kenyan farmer has broken the 2-hour barrier for the marathon, for the first time in human history, reports the Associated Press. Sabastian Sawe finished the London Marathon over the weekend in the record time of 1:59:30. That's 65 seconds faster than the last official record set three years ago. Actually, another African from Ethiopia also broke the previous record, finishing 11 seconds behind Sawe. Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, April 28th, in the year of our Lord 2026. About the Author Tessa Afshar's award‑winning novels have appeared on Publishers Weekly and CBA bestseller lists and have been translated into thirteen languages. A recipient of the ECPA Bronze Milestone Award, the Christy Award, the INSPY Award, and the ECPA Christian Book Award for her Bible study The Way Home, Tessa holds a Master of Divinity from Yale, where she served as co‑chair of the Evangelical Fellowship. Born in the Middle East to a nominally Muslim family, Tessa came to faith in Christ in her twenties. She is a devoted wife, a self‑proclaimed mediocre gardener, and an enthusiastic cook of biblical recipes. Questions: Let's start with something fun. Would you rather read a book series out of order, or watch the movie adaptation before reading the book? What practices help keep you grounded when life gets crazy? Do you keep a journal? If so, what journaling practices work for you? If not, what reflective practices do you use instead? Is there anything especially meaningful you haven't shared in other interviews—perhaps something God has laid on your heart that you'd like to share with readers? About the Book Sazana of Persia creates exquisite pottery that graces Susa's finest tables, but her master, Lord Haman, does not know her secret: Sazana is one of the Jews he has vowed to eradicate. When Haman discovers her true identity, he forces her into indentured servitude. But at Haman's sudden downfall, Queen Esther becomes the new master of the pottery workshop, restoring Sazana to her rightful place. Yet her troubles are not over. Haman's sons are enraged by his death, and the queen assigns one of her men to root out any threats. Sazana is shocked to discover that the queen's agent is Jadon—the man who once left her heart in ruins. But danger still lurks, and when Sazana and Jadon become entangled in the hunt for an ancient artifact, far more than their hearts and lives depends on the success of their mission. A story of intrigue, romance, and faith set within Queen Esther's royal domain—perfect for fans of ancient history, The Chosen, House of David, Francine Rivers, and Angela Hunt. Questions Your novel is set during the Persian period when Esther is queen. How did you research the historical and cultural details of Susa to create an authentic backdrop, and what discoveries surprised you most? Your book blends biblical events with romantic and suspenseful plotting. What challenges did you face in balancing faithfulness to the source material with crafting an engaging fictional narrative that includes mystery? What do you hope readers take away from this blend of biblical history, romance, and intrigue? What's next for your writing? Tessa, where can listeners learn more about you? You can connect with Tessa on her Newsletter and on Amazon, Facebook, and Instagram.

Have you ever considered how your body speaks up? A pang of hunger just before dinner. A shot of pain when you step awkwardly. A shout when joy moves you. A giggle when something tickles. A tear when sorrow overwhelms. In a way this is similar to prayer - a response from the deepest parts of us to the world around us. This week we continue our series, “The Body”, with the critical topic, “The Body that Prays”. We have two special components to the weekend. A sunday message from guest speaker Dr. Roger Helland, Prayer Ambassador of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and author of Pursuing God's Presence. The opportunity to practice what we preach by joining others of all ages in prayer walks throughout the city. The world is crying out, let us keep growing as a Body that prays. In Elizabeth Oldfield's book ‘Fully Alive', she wrote, “For most of the week, my value is in what I produce and what I consume. If I'm not careful my main goal in a day becomes impressive and competent, subtly signalling my status with the things I buy, say and post. Sabbath is the opposite. It is a line in the sand. Today I am just a person, and a person is beyond price. Sabbath is about valuing, fighting for and fiercely guarding rest.” [1] What are the things that demand our attention and distract us from being fully alive in Christ? My guests on this episode are Rick Hiemstra and Andy Gabruch. It's Wednesday, January 8th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Muslims set new convert's house on fire, killing whole family A Christian family in Uganda, Africa died for their faith last month. Back in November, 64-year-old Kaiga Muhammad, his wife Sawuya Kaiga and their son Swagga Amuza Kaiga, age 26, came to faith in Christ through a local church. The pastor of the church said the family requested prayer for their son who had malaria. The pastor told Morning Star News, “We prayed for the son, and immediately he was restored to good health.” However, Muslims in the area found out about the family's conversion to Christianity. On December 26th, they set the family's house on fire, killing all three. Please pray for persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Uganda. Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” Christian religious liberty in Canadian crosshairs The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada warns that new government recommendations would curtail religious freedoms in Canada. The recommendations come from a Finance Committee report at the end of last year. Recommendation 429 says the government should “no longer provide charitable status to anti-abortion organizations.” In addition, it says the Income Tax Act should be amended to “provide a definition of a charity which would remove the privileged status of ‘advancement of religion' as a charitable purpose.” The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada said, “This change, if adopted, would have a far-reaching and devastating impact - on religious charities, the people they serve, and Canadian society. Just over 40% of Canada's registered charities advance religion. This proposal would destabilize the charitable sector in Canada.” Facebook/Instagram kisses “fact checking” goodbye In the United States, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced yesterday the tech company is ending fact checking on its social media platforms. Meta is the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. Zuckerberg said, “We're going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms. More specifically, here's what we're going to do. First, we're going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.” Life News celebrated the decision, noting, “More practically, that means Facebook is finally going to stop discriminating against pro-life conservatives and it will get rid of the liberal fact-checkers it has used for years to suppress conservative content.” West losing control of world economy In economic news, the West is slowly losing control of the world economy. The U.S. dollar's share of global currencies fell again last year to 57.4%. That's down from 72% in the year 2000, dropping a rate of about 1% per year. Bitcoin and gold skyrocket Bitcoin scraped $102,000 on Monday. The cryptocurrency market cap has hit $3.64 trillion. Plus, gold's market capitalization is estimated at $17.9 trillion and gold's value is up 129% in seven years. Silver is at $1.7 trillion. Cryptocurrency's market cap is up 10-fold since early 2018. Amazon has improved its market capitalization 16-fold in ten years, and Tesla's market capitalization value is up 24-fold in seven years. Ironically, Tesla's stock rose 71% last year, but the company's total cars sold last year dropped a skosh - by about one percent. Oldest woman is 117 And finally, after the earthly departure of the oldest woman in the world who was from Japan, the new candidate is a soccer-loving nun from Brazil. Sister Inah Canabarro of Porto Alegre is 117 years old. Another nun, Lucille Randon of France, held the record for the oldest living person in 2023, when she died at 118 years of age. The oldest living person by recent authenticated accounts was Jeanne Louise Calment of France, who died in 1997 at 122 years of age. 1 Peter 3:10-11 says, “He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, January 8th, in the year of our Lord 2025. As 2024 draws to a close, we present a brief round-up of some of the most popular episodes of the first 12 months of the Magazine Podcast. We then read W. J. Grier's account of the last months of John Calvin's life, an appropriate 'bookend' counterbalancing the account of Calvin's early ministry in our episode 'Calvin in France'. We are living in an interesting time to say the very least. We see preachers that are politically motivated delivering messages that are geared more towards social justices and culture rather than unpacking biblical truths. As we gear up for election season in America and all that is happening within Canada, we need to make sure we are rooted in God's Word. How should Christians engage in politics? How far is too far? What if the government is coming against our views and beliefs? How do we respond and engage with that? Join host Andrew Marcus as he spends time with Senior Ambassador and President Emeritus of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada Bruce J. Clemenger where they unpack all things related to Christianity and politics!

“It may be that God is destroying the Church of England and who am I to stand in his way? “The real tragedy would be if, in this traumatic, confusing time, if all of the evangelicals and the broader Orthodox group fall out with each other… if we can bear with each other in our different strategies, then that will be what we need (in whatever the future in England is going to be), whether that's within the Church of England or outside. Charlie Skrine, the senior minister of All Souls Langham Place London, says his church (and other evangelical churches in the UK) are in a world of pain at the moment over the growing split in the Church of England. Mr Skrine, who is speaking at the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion Conference in Sydney, says All Souls is united in it's commitment to biblical teaching on sexual ethics, but divided on what the best response should be. He says a third of All Souls members are wanting to leave the Church of England now, a third want to stay and fight (never leave), and a further third are confused, and this diversity of opinion is reflected in the staff team. Former All Souls evangelist Rico Tice has distanced himself from the Church of England, attends a Presbyterian Church, but retains Church of England Permission to Officiate. Rico said on the Gafcon 2018 livestream, of the gospel promoted by the Archbishop of Canterbury's Evangelism Team, “It's a different religion... and it's around whether scripture is authoritative in terms of human sexuality… I think it's a great wickedness to tell people who are on the road to destruction that they're not... if we have church leaders who are putting people on that road to destruction it's a salvation issue.. That's why we have to distance ourselves..." (https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1482677891837392)Mr Skrine says in Revelation 2 Jesus says that his people must not tolerate sexual immorality. Mr Skrine says the bishops don't get it, but there are tiny glimmers of hope of a settlement, with bishops moving slowly reluctantly towards the conclusion that they need to give up authority and come to a settlement. He says the actions of the Bishop of London have united evangelical leaders within the London Church in a highly significant way with groups like All Souls, St Helens, Holy Trinity Brompton and Soma all standing side by side. Are you a man who lives your life with a sense of purpose and intentionality? We've heard it said that God “calls” people like pastors, teachers, and missionaries into ministry, but what about the rest of us? Do we have a “calling” on our lives? In this podcast, Dean sits down with Phil Wagler, who is certainly no stranger to Impactus! Phil lives in British Columbia with his family. He has recently written a book called Live Your Assignment: Being Christ's Ambassador in 7 Spheres of Life, which explores the idea that every believer has been given an assignment by God to fulfill in every area of our lives. He has a unique take on discipleship and calling and challenges believers everywhere to apply these principles to their lives. Phil has lived these ideas as a believer, son, husband, father, pastor, mission leader, and servant in the broader Body of Christ through working with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and the World Evangelical Association. Phil is deeply committed to inspiring and equipping the local church for a holistic mission and the ministry of reconciliation, which you will hear about in this interview. Dean and Phil cover a variety of topics and ideas in this conversation, including: How “reconciliation” is truly the centre of the Gospel, where we are reconciled to God, ourselves, others, and Creation. Exploring the implications of giving to Caesar what is Caesar's and giving to God what is God's (Matthew 22:21). What it means to be an “ambassador” of Christ, and the posture an ambassador takes in representing the Kingdom and the King. The spheres of influence God has given to every believer (not just the “professional” ministers!) and how to embrace being an ambassador in each of these areas. What it means to truly “let go” to God and the wonderful blessings that come when we do. Why “faithfulness” is more important than “vision” in a believer's life. Knowing that there is no “just” in the Kingdom of God (e.g. “I'm ‘just' a plumber…” “I'm ‘just' a homemaker…”; every assignment that God gives to a believer is significant! Join us for this fascinating conversation with Dean and Phil!
Perhaps like many, you have at least considered a goal or two for 2024. In the Beatitudes, Jesus gives us a vision of “the good life”. We might be surprised at the difference between our picture and God's picture of a flourishing life. Join us as Adam Driscoll, Director of Spiritual Development at Cornerstone Christian School and Chairperson of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, speaks on living with Kingdom vision locally and nationally as disciples of Jesus.
By now you have at least heard about Medical Assistance In Dying, otherwise known as MAiD. What you might not know is that MAiD safeguards have been quickly removed in Canada. Despite the best efforts of those in opposition, it appears we are set for new legislation in March that will expand access to MAiD to those suffering with mental illness. This has many of us concerned for these vulnerable people in our society. On this week's episode Andy sits down with David Guretzki PhD, President of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) to give us an update on MAiD and what we can do about it.

Are you concerned about the growing number of Canadian young adults who are leaving their faith behind? As parents, we hold a tremendous responsibility to ensure the transmission of faith to the next generation. How can we effectively disciple our children within the confines of our own homes? What steps can we take to pass on a strong foundation of faith to our children? These are not just ordinary questions; they are critical inquiries that demand careful and thoughtful answers. Parenting is a journey that brings both immense joy and significant challenges. However, our role as parents extends far beyond teaching life skills. We have the essential duty of educating our children, nurturing their social development, and raising them within the framework of faith. To shed light on this crucial topic, the Canadian Evangelical Family Faith Formation Study (CEFFFS) was initiated in 2019. This groundbreaking project, led by the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada in collaboration with 15 ministry partners, sought to understand how Canadian evangelical parents perceive their role as disciple-makers and how they actively shape their children's faith within the home. The study draws upon insights gained from interviews with parents, family ministry experts, and a comprehensive survey involving over 1,000 evangelical parents across Canada. In this episode, we are joined by two members of the research team who will help us delve into the study's key findings and their profound implications for Christian parents. Lindsay Callaway, a dedicated researcher at the Centre for Research on Church and Faith within the EFC, brings her expertise garnered from the Parenting Faith study, the Significant Church study, and her role as a co-host on the Faith Trends Podcast. Lindsay holds graduate degrees in systematic theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and bioethics from Trinity International University. She lives in Ottawa with her husband, a pastor, and their three children. Joining us as well is Rick Hiemstra, Director of the EFC's Centre for Research on Church and Faith. Rick's background encompasses pastoral experience in the Wesleyan tradition, along with teaching mathematics and computer science at the high school level. Renowned for his insights on Canadian church and cultural trends, he has contributed to several studies, including Parenting Faith, Significant Church, Renegotiating Faith, and various explorations into Bible engagement, local church missions, small evangelical churches, and faith formation during emerging adulthood. Rick holds a BMath from the University of Waterloo, a BEd from Ottawa University, and an MTS from Tyndale Seminary. Together, Lindsay Callaway and Rick Hiemstra will unpack the research findings and guide us toward a deeper understanding of how we, as parents, can fulfill our vital role as disciple-makers and raise a generation firmly rooted in faith. Whenever new research comes out, we try to make it meaningful and accessible for you to know if and how it affects your ministry. Join today's conversation with Rick and Lindsay from the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada's Center of Research on Church and Faith as they dive into one aspect of the brand new Parenting Faith Research Study. When asked how much Christian parents agreed with the following statement: “I want my children to make their own religious choices, without pressure from me,” 73% moderately or strongly agreed. What does that mean for the way parents are thinking about passing on faith to their kids? And what does it look like to partner with parents in the ways they'd like faith passed on? Modeling AND teaching faith is the way! Check out ParentingFaith.ca for the research project (and other resources) Want to chat about youth ministry? Canada's political culture seems to be changing. Where it was once a place where all could freely express their faith, it is now becoming increasingly difficult to do so. What has changed about Canada's political culture that is making it difficult for people of faith? This week we are joined by Bruce Clemenger, author and president of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, to walk us through his new book, The New Orthodoxy: Canada's Emerging Civil Religion. Bruce gives us a brief overview of the history of Canada's statecraft, and also expands upon the biases in our current government that result in challenges for religious people. Bruce closes out the conversation with an inspiring message in how we can remain hopeful amid a secular state.

Karl Vaters interviews Rick Hiemstra, a former small church pastor, now serving as the Director of Research at the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada. Rick and Karl talk about a wide variety of subjects, including the Church Growth Movement, technology and how it has affected the way we approach pastoring. Some helpful insights include: What has people's attention is what shapes them, and technology has radically altered what has our attention How technology has shaped people's expectation of what to expect from their church and their pastor How technology subconsciously changed pastors from shepherds to content producers The important difference between “growth” and “scale” How small churches are especially suited to meet the changing needs of a world whose attention is so easily diverted And much more. Evangelism starts with what Christ has done (and is doing) for you that you cannot do for yourself. This was the insight (though not original- it's biblical) that Rev.
