Don't do it! Playlist Megadeth - In my darkest hour (So far, so good…so what!, 1988) The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years (1988) - IMDb “Documentary showcase, what life was like for the music artists living during the Los Angeles Heavy Metal scene in the mid and late 1980s.” Bad Brains - The Regulator (Bad Brains, 1982) Bad Brains: A Band in DC (2012) - IMDb “Bad Brains are one of the most important and influential American bands still working today. They melded punk and reggae into an innovative style that has yet to be copied. Their impact and influence can be heard in groups like Beastie Boys, No Doubt, Nirvana, Jane's Addiction and countless more. Despite the troubles of an eccentric front man they have stayed together for 30 years without ever reaching the level of success so many think they deserve. Using rare archival footage and original comic illustrations the film re-constructs Bad Brains' rich and complicated history.” Jason Becker - Temple of the absurd (Perpetual Burn, 1988) Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet (2012) - IMDb “When doctors diagnosed 19-year-old rock star Jason Becker with Lou Gehrig's Disease, they said he would never make music again. 22 years later, without the ability to move or to speak, Jason is alive and making music with his eyes.” Judas Priest - Better by you, better than me (Stained Class, 1978) Dream Deceivers (1992) - IMDb “Two young men attempt suicide, one dies, the other survives disfigured. Their parents sue heavy metal band Judas Priest, alleging their music influenced the act. The documentary covers the unprecedented trial against the band.” Iron Maiden: The number of the beast (The number of the beast, 1982) Iron Maiden: Flight 666 (2009) - IMDb “A chronological account of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden's 2008 world tour through India, Australia, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico and South America in a jet piloted by the band's front man, Bruce Dickinson. Features interviews with the musicians, their road crew and fans.” Alice Cooper - Ballad Of Dwight Fry (1971) Super Duper Alice Cooper (2014) - IMDb “Super Duper Alice Cooper is the twisted tale of a teenage Dr Jekyll whose rock n roll Mr Hyde almost kills him. It is the story of Vincent Furnier, preacher's son, who struck fear into the hearts of parents as Alice Cooper, the ultimate rock star of the bizarre. From the advent of Alice as front man for a group of Phoenix freaks in the 60s to the hazy decadence of celebrity in the 70s to his triumphant comeback as 80s glam metal godfather, we will watch as Alice and Vincent battle for each others' souls. The is the first ever 'doc opera' - a dizzying blend of documentary archive footage, animation and rock opera that will cement forever the legend of Alice Cooper.” Cannibal Corpse - Hammer smashed face (Tomb of the Mutilated, 1992) Cannibal Corpse: Centuries of Torment (Video 2008) - IMDb “Spanning the entire career of death metal's biggest and most controversial band.” De reservelijst The Story of Anvil (2008) - IMDb “A documentary that chronicles the two fifty-something founding members of the Canadian heavy metal band Anvil on their last stab at fame.” Bonus: Mike met the man, the legend Lips! Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills (1996) - IMDb “A horrific triple child murder leads to an indictment and trial of three nonconformist boys based on questionable evidence.” Biography: KISStory (TV Special 2021) - IMDb “Follows the band's five decades in the business as founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons reflect on their career.”

Ils s'associent à Iggy Pop dans "I Wanna Be Your Slave". Lyn Marshall was one of those people I would never have known if it weren't for the church. The first few times we talked, we seemed so different from each other. But, then, on a long car ride to visit her sick mother, we bonded over a mutual love of The Moody Blues. And when she told me about how she met Vincent Furnier (maybe better known to you as "Alice Cooper"), I was sold! This was one cool lady! Lyn's passing yesterday reminded me of the truth I'll try to convey in my sermon today. "So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God" (Ephesians 2:19). We have a myriad of differences that can pull us apart and keep us apart; everything from our politics to our musical preferences (some people DON'T like the Moody Blues, if you can believe that). Yet, in Christ, we become family. No longer strangers but members of the family of God.

004 Fourth Floor Elevators: All Hallows' Eve Selections Part One01 Larry's Rebels - Halloween (New Zealand 1968) Quite a success in their homeland, this quintet laid down many fine singles and an album during their brief four year span. This fun Halloween theme isn't quite spooky, but the earnest vocal and hilarious sound effects give it a bizarre appeal that could only come from the 60's.02 The Rattles - The Witch (Germany 1969) This German band's career spans four decades beginning with the early 60's beat boom. Their psychedelic work is laced with hard rock as heard on this scorcher featuring sound effects that too sound like a hoot to make in the studio with a head full of hashish.03 Griffin - I Am The Noise In Your Head (UK 69) One-off band that features members of Skip Bifferty and Bell + Arc plus future Yes drummer Alan White. This demented number is a perfect example of the pre-hard rock that many long haired bands would pursue before fully committing to the sound or seeking more progressive pastures.04 Alice Cooper - Fields of Regret (US 1969) Before finding success with his brand of shock rock, Alice Cooper was a band led by Vincent Furnier who would later adopt their name as his government. This epic piece from their debut shows a band worshiping at the altar of Syd-era Pink Floyd while being freshly influenced by label boss Frank Zappa's twisted form of virtuoso rock.05 The Doors - My Wild Love (US 1968) This "work song" styled dirge by the LA kings of doom laden psychedelia features no instruments from the band, as they grew tired of trying to make the music work and opted instead to clap, stomp and hum their way through the backing track. The result is one of their most haunting and unique songs.06 Fever Tree - Death is the Dancer (US 1968) This Houston band's sound grew from their folk rock beginnings into an organ driven psychedelic stew that they cooked across four albums and numerous singles. This proto-prog number incorporates a bit of a Doors influence but beefs up the rhythm section a few decibels.07 St. John Green - Goddess of Death (US 1968) Exploito psych at its finest produced by shady LA scenester Kim Fowley and West Pop Experimental Pop Art Band member/producer Michael Lloyd. Encouraged by Fowley to explore the "Canyon Sound" that he was pushing on bands at the time, these Pasadena based misfits produced one of the earliest forms of occult rock ever released.  08 Les Sauterelles - Heavenly Club (Switzerland 1968) A smash hit in their homeland, this Swiss band produced two albums and a few singles of beat and pop-psych before calling it quits in 1969. This Bee Gees inspired tune is a strange story of a man's near death experience that leaves him insane and features such a soaring chorus that the nonsensical lyrics are easily forgiven.09 The Salt - Lucifer (US 1968) A funky pop ode to Beelzebub by an alias of bubblegum producer Joey Levine, who was also in Ohio Express and wrote their classic hit "Try It".  This song proves that the most skilled pop songwriter can take the darkest of subject matter and produce an ear worm.10 The Flying Machine - The Devil Has Possession of Your Mind (UK 1969) Though the title suggests possibly the darkest psych single ever recorded, we instead find another bubblegum tune that draws parallels between the man downstairs and a cheating lover. This band started life as Pinkerton's Assorted Colours and specialized in breezy UK harmony pop.11 Childe Harold - Brink of Death (US 1968) Truly warped in every sense of the word, this cover of Bert Sommers' downer masterpiece features every production trick available at the time plus some.  The band seems to be an alias project by electronic wizard Wendy Carlos. All songs recorded from vinyl and curated by Elvin Estela.

February 1973 — “Billion Dollar Babies” by Alice Cooper Brian presents one of the biggest early 1970's glam rock groups — Alice Cooper. Their sixth studio album entitled “Billion Dollar Babies” was released in 1973, and was their most successful album to this date. Detroit native and front man Vincent Furnier took on the “Alice Cooper” persona for this highly theatrical act, complete with makeup, tuxedo, and top hat. The title of the album is a tongue in cheek look at the rise of the band itself — referring to themselves as "Billion Dollar Babies." Come along as we dig into this exceptionally entertaining and well-produced glam rock band. “Hello Hooray” This opening song was recorded earlier by Judy Collins, and the band intended it to be “Alice Cooper meets cabaret.” “Elected” This driving piece is the second single released from the album, and is a satirical look at the election process. It is a rewrite of their earlier song from 1969 entitled "Reflected." There's a surprisingly good horn section in there as well. “Billion Dollar Babies” The title track reflects their success in such a short period of time. Take a listen to this one in stereo or headphones to get the full effect. “No More Mr. Nice Guy” “No more Mr. cle-e-e-ean!” This song is the most popular track off the album. Amazingly, the shock rock front man appeared on The Muppet Show to sing this back in the day! ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: “Dueling Banjos” — from the movie “Deliverance” This Burt Reynolds movie was filmed on the Chattooga River in Georgia, and may be one of the most notable banjo riffs of all time. The movie was released in 1972 and was still popular in 1973. STAFF PICKS: “Dancing in the Moonight” by King Harvest Bruce shares this one-hit wonder sung by a Paris-based American group. It has that smooth, folk oriented sound that was quite popular back in the day. It could be an undercover werewolf song - jury's still out on that. “The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia” by Vicki Lawrence Rob’s a fan of the Carol Burnette show, and this was sung by comiedienne Vicki Lawrence. Her husband wrote the song, and when he was turned down by some famous female vocalists, Lawrence took it on, and took it to the top of the charts. “My Woman from Tokyo” by Deep Purple Wayne's rocking and riffing on this one. Although a big hit for Deep Purple, the band didn't like the song. It never actually came out as a single, and the band didn't play the song in concert until 1986. “Walk on the Wildside” by Lou Reed Brian closes out staff picks with this controversial art rock hit profiling alternate lifestyles in New York City. This is off Reed's second solo album, and the backing vocals are performed by a group called the Thunder Thighs. LAUGH TRACK: “Dead Skunk” by Loudon Wainwright III This fun song is an ode to an odor we have all experienced on a country road. “I one'd it...I two'ed it...

Alice Cooper was raised in the Bickertonite Church, and his grandfather was the president!  Alice Cooper's song, "No More Mr. Nice Guy might have a reference to his Bickertonite upbringing!  What else can Daniel tell us about Alice Cooper?  Did Mr. Smithie really punch him in the nose? https://youtu.be/fClNRep22iU Daniel:  We go to a friend, a family friend, between the both of us and we have dinner together and we're talking and my wife just out of the blue says, "Okay, let me ask you this, are you that Mr. Smithy in the Alice Cooper song that punches him in the nose?" And then Ike Smith's wife just burst out laughing and says either her or Bonnie, she says "That's where it comes from!" See, they didn't, as far as we know, they didn't know. Apparently people had been telling them that reference and they didn't really fully realize where it was coming from. So my wife is, I guess maybe it was the first bold one to flat out say, Hey, are you the guy that punched him in the nose? So go Laura! That was awesome of her. And he said, he goes, "Oh." He goes, "Oh my goodness. Oh Vinny." And he basically, or something like that, just very friendly and laughing. And he says, "Just for the record, I did not punch Vinny in the nose." So yeah. And I guess we have a friend that's a part of the Latter-day Saint movement. I had met him one time at a John Whitmer Historical conference. I forget his name. Really Nice Guy. Anyways, he knows Ike Smith as well. And his wife Bonnie. Anyways, he went to an Alice Cooper--I don't know if it was a meet and greet or a concert or something like that and they took a picture with Alice Cooper and he told him saying, "Hey, I know Ike Smith." And Alice said to him, "Tell Ike, Vinny said hi." So, there's a history between them and it's very possible. It's very possible that sarcastically, you'd have to ask Vincent Furnier himself. Here's the video of the song if you're interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN6ngThqMEs We'll also talk about Bickertonite leadership.  Did they follow Brigham Young's pattern where the senior apostle becomes leader?  Is an apostle greater than a prophet? Daniel:  Bickerton is a prophet who are ordains apostles. So it shows, at least through history, and if you would to tie that in scripturally, Bickerton kind of acts in a way. I don't want to say he was Jesus, but he started a movement and restored the movement. Obviously if you're a Bickertonite, you have to believe that he had the power to do that and to ordain apostles. So, it's little interesting mental gymnastics that we play. GT: I just wonder if that's because the Cadman narrative is what won out, right? Daniel: Yeah, exactly. GT: So he would probably try to push prophets below apostles because he was an apostle and he wanted to be at the top of the church. Daniel: Oh for sure. GT: And so it sounded like... Daniel: And he could even been considered a prophet necessarily, but he still was an apostle and the president first. Yeah. GT: So, the president of the quorum of the Twelve--so you guys will follow the Brigham Young Movement in that the president of the Quorum of Twelve becomes the president of the church. Daniel: Exactly, Yep. As Alice judges the denizens of Brutal Planet and Dragontown (that means YOU, if you didn’t figure that out), so too does he get judged by your clean-living and morally-upright Coopercast team of Bobby Hazzard, the lovely Ms. Hazzard, Nashville’s physician of fright Dr. Gangrene, and Troy Guinn of the Naschycast. Join us as we wade through this musical metaphorical morass to get to the heart of that most theological of all questions: “Does it ROCK?” Leave us a comment and you just might win a Phil X signature “Ass” model guitar too!
