This includes your business name, logo, and overall aesthetic. Your brand should communicate your business's overall mission and appeal to your target market. Marketing and Sales Strategy: How will you attract and retain customers? Define your marketing and sales strategies. This could include a website, social media, advertising, networking, etc. Hiring: If your business is not a one-person operation, you'll need to hire staff. Consider what roles you need to fill, and start the recruitment and hiring process. Financial Management: Implement systems for managing your finances. This includes accounting, invoicing, managing payroll, monitoring expenses, etc. Customer Service: Establish a system for excellent customer service. Your relationship with your customers can make or break your business. Insurance: Protect your business from risks with the appropriate insurance policies. This might include general liability insurance, workers' compensation insurance, property insurance, etc. Growth Plan: Lastly, always look forward. Have a growth plan in place. This includes plans for scaling up operations, expanding the product or service line, entering new markets, etc.   Checklist for starting a business Evaluate Your Business Idea: Understand the feasibility, potential market, and profitability. Market Research: Study your potential customers and competition to validate the need for your business idea. Business Plan: Create a detailed business plan outlining your business model, strategies for marketing, operations, financial projections, etc. Business Structure: Decide on your business's legal structure (sole proprietorship, LLC, corporation, etc.). Business Name: Choose a unique, catchy, and appropriate name for your business. Register Your Business: Depending on your location, register your business with local, state, and federal authorities. Tax IDs: Apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) or the equivalent in your country, and understand your tax responsibilities. Permits and Licenses: Find out which permits and licenses you need to operate legally, and apply for them. Business Location: Choose a suitable location for your business. Consider zoning laws, target market, accessibility, and cost. Business Insurance: Evaluate what kind of insurance your business needs (general liability, workers' compensation, property, etc.) and get covered. Finances: Set up a business bank account, consider a business credit card, set up accounting software, and plan how you will finance your startup costs. Build a Team: If you're not going it alone, you'll need to hire employees or bring on partners. Make sure you understand employment laws and regulations. Brand Identity: Create a logo, choose your business's color scheme, and start building your brand's overall visual identity. Website: Build a professional website. Even if your business is offline, an online presence is crucial in the modern business environment. Sales and Marketing Strategy: Determine how you will attract and retain customers. This includes social media marketing, email marketing, SEO, advertising, etc. Set Up Your Workspace: This could be a retail location, an office, a co-working space, or your home, depending on your business type. Business Operations: Establish your day-to-day operations. This could include sourcing suppliers, setting up your store (physical or online), etc. Customer Service Policies: Establish policies for customer interaction, returns, support, etc. Growth Plan: Have a clear plan for the future of your business. How will you scale, and what are your goals for the next 5 years? Launch: Plan and execute a launch strategy to create buzz and bring in customers.   The Business Model Canvas is a strategic management and lean startup template for developing new or documenting existing business models. It is divided into nine segments: Value Proposition Customer Segments Channels Customer Relationships Revenue Streams Key Resources Key Activities Key Partnerships Cost Structure According to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the reasons small businesses often fail due to the following reasons: Lack of Capital: Many small businesses underestimate the amount of money they need to start and keep the business running. When they run out of capital, they can't sustain operations. Poor Planning: Many businesses fail due to lack of a proper business plan. A good plan includes financial projections, market analysis, marketing and sales strategies, among other things. Insufficient Market Demand: If there isn't enough demand for the product or service, a business can't generate sufficient revenue. This is why market research is crucial before starting a business. Bad Location: For businesses that rely on foot traffic, a poor location can doom the enterprise from the start. Online businesses can also suffer if their digital presence is weak or hard to find. Poor Management: Ineffective leadership and poor decision making can lead to business failure. This could include bad hiring decisions, poor financial management, or inadequate customer service. Competition: A saturated market or competition from larger, established companies can make it difficult for a small business to succeed. Lack of Online Presence: In today's digital age, not having an online presence or having a poorly managed one can severely affect a business. It's essential for businesses to effectively use online platforms for marketing and sales. Not Adapting to Market Changes: Businesses that fail to evolve with market trends, consumer behavior, or new technologies can quickly become obsolete. Lack of Business Knowledge or Experience: Running a business requires knowledge in many areas, like finance, management, marketing, and industry-specific knowledge. A lack of experience or knowledge in these areas can be detrimental. Poor Financial Management: Businesses need to have proper financial management, including cash flow management, cost management, and financial planning and analysis. If a business spends too much, doesn't track expenses, or doesn't plan for future financial needs, it may fail. Overexpansion: Growing too fast can be just as detrimental as not growing at all. Overexpansion often leads to weakened operations and quality, and potential financial problems.

Don't assume that your website will look good on a mobile platform.  Always test it out on actual tablets and phones during the build and before the launch! And if you've hired a designer, still test it out.  It could look really wonky and awful on a tablet and phone view and that's no bueno. Having a wonky website can cause high bounce rates and affect SEO.  Make sure your website is clean, structured, and easy to navigate on desktops, tablets and phones. Real Estate Lead Generation is constantly evolving.  Of course we are always discussing the importance of focusing on your Sphere of Influence since they already know, like & trust you.  It will always cost you a lot more time & money to gain a new client than someone who already knows you. As you think about creative ways to get more leads, you must think about your why and what type of person you LOVE to work with!  Whether it is the first time home buyer, empty nesters, or other family situations like divorce, probate, etc.  It is a lot easier to find the right lead source for you if you know what you love about selling real estate or working with buyers or sellers!Here are some ideas for lead generation for real estate agents:Google Pay per Click (PPC) - Drive traffic to your website or specific landing pages,  You control the monthly amount of $$ you want to spend!  Tip: Create a couple different ads if it is your first time... maybe have a small budget for each, track using google analytics so you know which ad performs the best and increase that ad!  Seller Leads from Market Leader: Market leader runs one of the largest home valuation sites online.  Divorce Leads - If you are serious about working these leads, get your RCS-D (Real Estate Collaboration Specialist – Divorce) designation and reach out to Divorce Attorneys to let them know this is your specialty! Bold Leads for Buyer & Seller Leads - Bold Lead claims to offer agents a 5x's return on their investment.  If you have a system in place to help cultivate leads, this may be a great option!Circle Prospecting - A great way to get your name out, especially for your farming areas.  You can buy a list of homeowners' cell numbers, cross check the DNC list.  You can use an app like Slydial broadcast to leave homeowners voicemails for your next Open House in the area!Smart CRM's -  Using software like Zurple or First.IO, let artifical intelligence help you reach out to someone who is most likely to buy or sell!Send letter's to Absentee Owners - With the market being hot, these owners are a great resource for listings!  Maybe they have been renting their property or using as a second home.  With the home values and equity being high right now, it may be the perfect time for them to sell!Garage Sales: Yes, we just said garage sales! We love the neighborhood Garage Sale days, especially if it is in your farming area!  Wear your brand swag, go shopping and spark up conversations!  You are out shopping for items to help stage your listings because you work hard for your Seller's!Website - Build out your website and make it a hub of information about the area!  The more content, photos & videos you have, the more likely you will be found on a search.  Use these landing pages to share on social to help drive traffic to your website!Social Media - The world is your oyster with social! Website: melbourneseoservices.com Website Build Overall ProcessSales Team When a new client is ready to start a website build, the Sales Team should “handover” the lead’s billing details to the Accounts Team for invoicing. The Sales Team CC in both the client and the Accounts Team in this email. Accounts Team 1. Taking the information from the “handover” email, the Accounts Team will prepare the initial deposit invoice for the client. 2. Once the invoice has been created, the Accounts Team will “reply all” to the sales person’s email (to ensure the client is included) – and paste in the project’s questionnaire link and further information. 3. The Accounts Team will then set up the Client Workspace in our Project Management Platform (we use Asana) by duplicating our workspace template – this includes the client’s business name, contact name, URL, and account notes, as appropriate. 4. Once that’s done, the Master Website Build Task Template gets duplicated and dragged it to the Client’s Workspace you set up in #3 above. 5. Once the payment is received and the questionnaire completed, the Accounts Team will set up a Dropbox Client Folder Template in the appropriate section for additional information and files that won’t be stored in the Project Management Platform – such as the PDF of the client’s completed questionnaire. 6. The Accounts Team will now assign the Website Build Task to the Operations Team Project Manager and make a comment letting them know the project is ready to begin. Operations Team – Project Manager 1. The Project Manager will now review the client’s questionnaire and any further information then assign out the first of many sub-tasks from the Website Build Task thread.  2. The Project Manager will then get the Client Support Team to email the client – either clarification questions or an official “Start Date” – using the Questions or Info + Start Date Email Template. 3. The Project Manager then adds a “Target Completion Date” for themselves to oversee the project. Operations Team 1. The Operations Team will now execute the following tasks, in accordance with the systems provided and due dates are given.     a. Theme Research     b. Create a Staging Site & Initial Customisation     c. Round 1 Client Feedback – this is assigned once the client provides their first round of feedback from the initial customisation.     d. Round 2 Review Minor Review – this is assigned once the client provides their second round of feedback after Round 1  feedback has been implemented.                                                                                    e. Round 3 Review Finishing Touches – this is assigned once the client provides their last round of feedback after Round 2 feedback has been implemented.                                                                                            f. Quality Check 2. Once all feedback rounds are completed by the team, the Operations Team alert the Project Manager that the site is ready to go live.         Operations Team – Project Manager At this point, the Project Manager will get the Client Support Team to email the client with the “Staging Site – Ready to Go Live” Email Template and CC in the Accounts Team. Accounts Team 1. Once CC’d into the email that a staging site is ready to go live, the Accounts Team will invoice the 50% Balance invoice. 2. Once the balance invoice is paid, the Accounts Team will alert the Project Manager so they can proceed. Operations Team – Project Manager The Project Manager now assigns the series of sub-tasks in the “Site Goes Live section of the Website Build Task template. Operations Team 1. The Operations Team will now execute the following tasks, in accordance with the systems provided and due dates are given.     a. Review website and email hosting (if applicable)     b. Create a backup of the old live site     c. Staging Site Migration to Live Server         i. For site re-build, create 301 redirects and ensure existing SEO is transferred (if applicable)     d. Set-up the site on Search Console (if applicable)     e. Set-up Google Analytics (if applicable) 2. Once the staging site is live and working, the Operations Team alert the Project Manager to perform a QA Review. Operations Team – Project Manager 1. The Project Manager will now assign out the Site Quality Control Review task to either themselves or a relevant team member to run a “Quality Assurance” review over the new live site.            i. Any QA issues will be fed back to the web team, if necessary, by simply re-assigning the Site Quality Control Review task to the appropriate team member.           2. Once QA is done, the Project Manager will get the Client Support team to email the client with all their relevant new login details, and further information, as necessary.               3. The Project Manager will also assign the Onpage SEO task to the SEO Manager to execute, as per their systems. Operations Team – SEO Manager 1. The SEO Manager will assign out and supervise all the relevant on-page SEO work for this last component of the site build. 2. Once all the Onpage SEO work is done, the SEO Manager will use the pre-made Offboarding subtask and assign to the Client Support team to advise the client that the project is now finished.           3. At the same time, the SEO Manager will then assign the pre-made Sales Follow-up subtask in the client comms thread and assign it to the appropriate Sales Team Member.                Operations Team – Project Manager Once all work is totally completed, the Project Manager can archive the project in Asana. Sales Team Once assigned a Follow-up task to touch base with the client 1-week after offboarding, then set up the lead in your lead software (we use Nutshell) and follow your normal sales process. So I'm three months in at this point and that means the first quarter is done and my approach to business and my approach to everything online is really a fire ready aim. It's all about getting into emotion. It's all about taking action starting as the most difficult part. And so many people stay stuck in research mode and they'll just research forever. They won't take any action and of course they're never going to make any money. So I just pulled the trigger and bought a site to get things going. And now at month three we are just stuck in the aim phase so we are just aim, aim, aim. We're still dealing with the backlash from a poor decision on my part to buy 12 posts from one content team. Now I've used this first content team for other types of content projects and it worked. This affiliate site is a different type of content. Review content is simply different. So I bought a batch of 12 posts from them a months ago and they came out terrible. They did not work, they, they missed the boat. So the big key is when you're testing new teams and when you're testing new service providers, start with small projects. I think next time I do a site like this, I'll be able to condense the first three months down into one month because I kind of get an idea of what the mistakes I made and this is why the fire ready, aim approach works is I didn't know how to build this or do this from where I was three months ago. Right? I now know hindsight, looking back based off the mistakes that I've made, I now have a really clear understanding of a better way to do it. I didn't learn the better way before I started. I learned the better way by trying the best and giving it my best and looking back and thinking, oh man, if I would've done that and then that and then that and then that we probably would already be a lot farther along than we are. This is how we actually learn! We had some HR issues, some challenges with some teammates I had brought on individual who has a lot of domain knowledge in the space of the niche of this website and he was doing our reviews for us. He wasn't writing the reviews, but he was going through and choosing all of the different products because he knew these products and he was able to compare which ones were best and which ones was the best budget option, which one was the second best, third best, et cetera. He disappeared, right? He's busy. He had a couple of jobs. This was the extra side thing and he just has not kept up to pace at this point. So we're yet again, building another system around how do we get the actual reviews? Because this is the value I or you as an affiliate offer your audience is really taking the time to actually do a quality review. It's not good enough to just go choose five random things and say, cool. Here they are. There should be actually some helpful information and insight for your audience member because that's what they want, right? Your income is a byproduct of helping other people get what they want. So our goal is not just to publish reviews on anything. We actually do want to know what's good and what's not, and we want to help steer our audience in the right direction. So that's another challenge, right? And you probably have noticed me as someone who's leveraging my money and my income from my other businesses to build this right? This is an investment for me. There's all kinds of HR challenges left and right. If you're doing all of the work yourself, you buy press that 100% and that's what my wife and I did in the beginning.

Let me tell you a not so little secret, in order to really get ahead in your business, you MUST be persistent. You must connect with people, send emails, and put yourself into uncomfortable positions-- These are the things that will get you ahead and help your business grow. Uncomfortable situations are scary, and so many people avoid them, but it is probably one of the best ways to meet new people and get your name out there. For example, at Emily’s very first trade show, she took samples of her products and went into other’s booths, asking multiple questions, which led to some of Emily’s current clients. Emily also discusses how important it is to reach out and connect regularly with your clients. You want them to know how much you value their business and how seriously you take their work.
