Are you rich? While our default answer likely focuses on the way in which we currently evaluate our financial situation, is money what makes us rich? Is it possible to effectively address realistic short and long-term financial goals without sacrificing our health, relationships, ethics or other elements that are important to living a full life? Or are we stuck having to choose between our money and our life?Welcome to the latest episode of the Health, Wellness & Performance Catalyst. Today's guest is Dr. Shannon Hayes, author of the thought-provoking book Redefining Rich, which I expected to be filled with the typical blah blah blah generic advice we've all heard a hundred times. Instead, I was left considering a new way for Suzanna and I approach that choice between our money and our lives. Dr. Hayes and her husband walked away from their career paths and chose to forge a life on her family's frost-plagued mountain farm, starting up a small café in town. They built a business – and a life – from which we can all glean valuable guidance, regardless of our current setting, career path, or business start-up status. And, along the way, you might just discover a secret or two that brings true living back to this thing we call life. Because the laundry, chores, soccer practice, meal planning, and litter box scooping? That's not WHO you are; that's not your identity. Those are the things you HAVE TO do. Welcome to the mindful fire podcast where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond.  I'm your host, Adam Coelho and I'm so glad you're here.If you're new to the mindful fire podcast and you haven't yet checked out the other parts of our 3-part series with Julia, you can find the full series at mindfulfire.org/julia.On today's episode of the podcast, we dive into part three of our three part series with Julia Li. This series has followed Julia's journey of making a huge life in career change of leaving Google after six years to pivot into the field of sustainability. What I really love about this series with Julia is just how relatable and actionable it is for me and for anyone who listens to it. Many of us want to start this new year with more intention and alignment with our values and our purpose. These conversations with Julia provide not only inspiration, but also practices like journaling reflection and envisioning that we can use to get clear on what we really want and to begin walking down that path. I hope you've enjoyed this series with Julia as much as I have and I would love to hear what it's inspired you to do in your own life. You can reach out to me on Instagram @themindfulFIREpodcast and drop me a DM and let me know what you're planning for 2022. I really would love to hear it. Today on part three of my conversation with Julia,  we dive into the final chapter of her pivot out of Google and into the field of sustainability after taking three months off to rest and reflect. In today's conversation, Julia shares her mindset and practical approach to identifying which area of sustainability she wanted to work in.  She then shares how she went about identifying potential companies and ultimately connected with those companies to begin the interview process. There's a ton of practical advice Julia shares that can be applied to any career moves you've been thinking about making in 2022. And finally Julia shares with me how her entire relationship with money has changed over the last year since we recorded our first conversation together, before she left Google. In that conversation, I recommended a book to Julia called The Simple Path To Wealth, which you've probably heard me talk about numerous times on the podcast. The Simple Path To Wealth by JL Collins is really my go-to recommendation for anyone looking to understand their money better or improve their financial situation and certainly to anyone looking to get on the path to financial independence. Julia shares, how reading this book and another one called Your Money Or Your Life by Vicki Robin, changed her mindset and relationship with money. Her new insights about money. Really got me thinking about my own relationship with money and I think they'll do the same for you. No one knows when the financial independence retire early or FIRE movement actually started. Some say it was with the publication of Vicki Robins book Your Money Or Your Life in 1992. Others point to Jacob Lund-Fisker's blog Early retirement Extreme in 2010 or the advent of Mr. Money Mustache in 2011. Either way, mainstream media discovered the movement in 2018 and the community and philosophy have grown quite a bit in just the last three years. Or have they? Today on Earn and Invest we ask a simple question. Has the FIRE Movement evolved? Our panelists for the most part discovered financial independence in the early 2000’s and have collectively reached millions of listeners and readers. JL Collins is widely known as the Godfather of the financial independence movement and wrote the ever popular and best selling book The simple path to wealth. He blogs at jlcollinsnh where his stock series has been credited as one of the best resources for new investors. Brad Barrett is a recovering certified public accountant as well as the calm and cool voice of arguably the most listened to fire podcast out there, ChooseFI. And Jillian Johnsrud paid off all our debt, traveled to 27 counties, lived abroad for 4 years, and took 5 mini-retirements, all while bringing up 6 kids. She is a progress coach and the host and creator of the Everyday Courage Podcast.

KEY TAKEAWAYS In the UK market there is a large problem with the advice gap, caused by the lack of trust in financial institutions. Surveys show that this image is changing slowly, but there is still work to do. Products are designed to manage wealth, run it, or reserve it, but no product can create It’s the client who creates wealth. We can aid them by creating a plan. It is here that we add the most value. The financial industry has, for the longest time, been designed around the industry taking a cut of your earnings, holding it, and returning what’s left at the end of your life. This system does not work. 95% of retirees have less than 100k when they retire. First we must plan goals and actions with our clients. Goals must affect each element of life including mind and body, heart and spirit. Action plans are project plans, looking at money and the financial architecture required in order to support the life plan. Today we’re finally tackling the topic that we suspect some of you initially came to The Fairer Cents expecting to hear about: early retirement, financial independence and the FIRE movement or community. But because it’s us, we’re not just going to say “here’s how to retire early, now go buy some Vanguard funds and off you go.” Instead, we’re talking about how to broaden the conversation around FIRE, namely how to diversify it so more people feel welcome. Because it’s not just white tech bros here, and talking about it that way sells the whole movement short. Our guests today include Vicki Robin, the New York Times bestselling co-author of Your Money Or Your Life, and a panel of diverse voices from across the FIRE community who are all working to break down those stereotypes about who can achieve FIRE. In today's episode, Cody and Justin bring you an awesome episode full of philosophical discussion to go along with the background of Grant Sabatier who went from $2.26 in his checking account to $1.25M in 5 years! Our main hope is you come away with a little more insight into Grant's brain as we tackle some interesting questions like Do people optimize too much? Can a journey to FI be harmful? Does someone need to know their why? Is becoming an entrepreneur the answer? If you enjoyed this episode or want to get to know more about Grant, we encourage you to pick up his new book Financial Freedom today! Episode Summary Graduated with philosophy degree Bounced around 4 jobs after college Was laid off twice Spent what money he had going on a big trip to Africa Ended up back at his parents with $2.26 at age 24 He was also carrying credit card debt His parents gave him a 3 month time limit to figure things out This was during 2010 He started googling for books about money and landed on Your Money Or Your Life as well as Automatic Millionaire Grant realized if he was going to be trading life for money, he became focused on how he could make as much as possible He sat a goal to make $1M and retire as soon as possible A few weeks later he discovered Google Mobile Ads as well as a free certification course He was immediately hired upon completion He started making $50k It was until 2.5 years later that he found others on the path to financial independence at a young age He working extremely hard working 7 days a week most of the time He started building websites plus flipping VW vans and mopeds, and flipping domains Today he still has over 800 domains He began to gain a lot of traction with his main job of managing Google campaigns He attributes this to understanding how he's perceived, knowing what value he brings, and understanding what his clients need to do to impress their boss One tactic he had was actually writing messages for the client to express how this deal would be good for them Then he talks about how easy it is to see the difference between someone just putting in a lot of hours and those they put out quality work The discussion then swaps to skills which Grant refers to as the future currency Also to make sure that you learn skills that may not tie together at surface level like analytics, sales, and coding Great quote I don't know how to do that is no longer an excuse in this digital age He talks about how at 18 when graduating from high school, you simply don't know what you want to be so a structured plan can be tough but you have a huge opportunity to take risks He argues that too much personality finance writing is about cutting out things that we enjoy or being too afraid of debt To worry more about making more money vs stressing about something like student loans He talks about knowing where you want to go and then focusing on how much you need to make to get there instead of settling on what you think you're worth Grant talks about knowing where you want to go and then focusing on how much you need to make to get there instead of settling on what you think you're worth He also talks about the risks of climbing the corporate ladder and what that can do to your life and family Then we talk about over optimizing our lives and our budgets This ties into how much of our life we miss by not living in the moment and how Americans struggle with this more than some countries He also admits that he gave up to much life and experiences by being so hyoerfocused on retiring You can be just as addicted to saving money as someone who is addicted to spending it and both are dangerous His wish is that everyone who finds themselves in a job they didn't love would take 6 months off without a concrete plan to discov...

Conducono: Carlo: @pedroTFP Tommaso: @tdebenetti Andrea: @incassaforte

Aired 02/10/09 I bought this book when it originally came out in 1992. Much of it made profound sense then, at the dawn of the high-tech, Clinton era boom: Notice what really matters. Learn to say enough. Simplify. Choose. Today as we descend into the deepest financial crisis in over 60 years, its message is no longer a lifestyle choice. For most of us - and ideally for the entire American culture - it is a necessity. YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE shows readers how to gain control of their money and finally begin to make a life, rather than just make a living. The new edition contains updated resources and anecdotes and examples particularly relevant today. It tells you how to: · get out of debt and develop savings · reorder material priorities and live well for less · resolve inner conflicts between values and lifestyle · save the planet while saving money ...and more www.yourmoneyoryourlife.org http://victoriaroserobin.blogspot.com/
