Kiran Nistala, Chief Medical Officer and head of development at Zura Bio, describes how their novel molecules target multiple pathways to provide more effective treatments for patients with autoimmune diseases. This is particularly necessary for those with complex, heterogeneous manifestations not well addressed by current therapies. Zura Bio's novel molecules target rare diseases such as systemic sclerosis and hidradenitis suppurativa and show potential for use in combination with existing approaches.   Kiran, "Developing bispecifics is a known, but it's quite a technical skill, and I think there are lots of reasons—first, bioengineering to get the right molecule. Secondly, you must also know how to design studies to show that both sides are doing what you expect of that molecule. So both pathways are being affected. And I guess you must also choose the right disease where you think those pathways are super important. So, we've been incredibly thoughtful in our approach- we haven't just jumped in, and some of that time we've taken is really to speak to patients and physicians and learn and hopefully overcome some of the mistakes we've seen from other competitors." "Your point about heterogeneity speaks to why we're stuck and don't have enough medicines that are changing the boundaries. If I give you a specific example, scleroderma, I talked a bit about it. One of the points is that there's no treatment for the whole of this disease -there's just treatment for the lung. And maybe the lungs are a bit simpler, but what you want to treat is every organ, the whole of disease. That issue is probably more varied between patients. The same is true for our second disease of interest: hidradenitis suppurativa. There's been some great progress, and molecules are out there now that are licensed to treat it. But unfortunately, the same thing occurs. So, more than half of patients in recent studies are still not getting good or very good responses. My guest on this episode of the DiepCJourney podcast is a young woman who during the height of the COVID pandemic, at only 33 years old, became diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Her Journey was not easy but, it is truly inspiring and motivating. She has a strong family history of distinct types of cancer. The resilience she practiced doing chemotherapy alone during the pandemic translated into the grit and determination discovering her current work. Rori is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Subsequently, she became a certified Cancer Exercise Specialist with the Cancer Exercise Training Institute. Her message is clear. Studies have shown that exercise can reduce the side effects of breast cancer treatment, reduce risk factors, and minimize the risk of recurrence. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we hear the story of another amazing survivor, Rori Zura. She shares how her family history of cancer lead her to be a fierce advocate for her health and shares her perspective on the role of fitness in her treatment and recovery journey.Rori Zura currently lives in Commack, NY with her amazing husband and 2 Frenchie furbabies. She is 35 years old, an avid athlete, and just finished her battle against Breast Cancer. She's always been an active person, her mom used to say that when she was a baby, she learned to run before she could even crawl - she has been on the go ever since.After graduating from high school, she ventured out to the wild wild west and attended Arizona State University with the intention of graduating in the design field. Rori ended up graduating with a BA of Design Studies and came back to New York during the 2009 recession. In this moving story that celebrates cultural diversity, a shy girl brings her West African grandmother–whose face bears traditional tribal markings–to meet her classmates. It is Grandparents Day at Zura's elementary school, and the students are excited to introduce their grandparents and share what makes them special. Aleja's grandfather is a fisherman. Bisou's grandmother is a dentist. But Zura's Nana, who is her favorite person in the world, looks a little different from other grandmas. Nana Akua was raised in Ghana, and, following an old West African tradition, has tribal markings on her face. Worried that her classmates will be scared of Nana–or worse, make fun of her–Zura is hesitant to bring her to school. Nana Akua knows what to do, though. With a quilt of traditional African symbols and a bit of face paint, Nana Akua is able to explain what makes her special, and to make all of Zura's classmates feel special, too.

The librarian Zura escorts Arthas past a hall of portraits and into an older section of the library. As the pair scan tomes and scrolls for information on Giant-kin, Arthas comes across what appears to be a text depicting cultural aspects of his people, though not necessarily obtained through honest means.The further he digs, the more he learns that some of the Aerir's teachings may have been false. He also comes across some interesting information regarding the being that allegedly caused his deity's death. In order to complete his quest, Arthas learns that there are dangerous steps ahead.Zura tells Arthas that all knowledge is worth having, even if it comes at a cost.
