Happy May 2Legs Fans! Andy and Tom are back this week to discuss what our "Desert Island Discs" would be. Following the format of Paul's appearance on the BBC Radio programme from his appearance on the show from January 1982 with BBC Presenter Roy Plomley. We chose 5 Paul/Wings Songs and 5 non-Paul/Beatles songs as well as one book and a luxury item like Paul did! If you've never heard the whole show - the link for the (audio) is below. The only video to surface from this appearance is the famous one where Paul is visibly shaken while listening to 'Beautiful Boy' - A touching moment; and a rare glimpse of Paul so honest. What would your 5 Paul songs to take away with you? Let us know! See you soon! Andy and Tom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6kmDI-mw-Q https:// www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p009ml01

Hi 2Legs Faithful! A long one in the making! Joining us for E279 is Author/Researcher/Journalist/Musician Keith Badman. Keith penned a trio of 3 Beatles "Bibles" in the early 00s. The first being After The Breakup 1970-2000 which was one of the first texts to compile Solo Beatles activity in a Day By Day format (Like Lewisohn). Andy quickly snapped up the book upon seeing on the shelves (RIP Borders!) circa 2001-02. His copy is well worn (as you'll see in the show). He brought it to Tom's attention shortly after joining the show. Keith did some work for The Beatles Anthology via a mutual friend Chips Chiperfield. He tells us about that and how he came to write the book. He followed up "After The Breakup" with two subsequent volumes titled "Off The Record" which collected quotes from Beatles and Associates. Hello 2Legs Faithful! We finally were able to record a proper episode again after a few hectic weeks post-Fest and Venus and Mars 50th Anniversary. This week on 2Legs Andy and Tom talk Macca Remixes! There are plenty of Macca Remixes out there; most of them coming during the Maxi-Single era of the 1980s. Special Thanks to Susan Gagne for this topic! The most recent one would be the remixes of 'Hope For The Future' that came out on that EP. "Thrash", "Beatsession", "Jaded" and "Mirwais" (2014). We give 5 selections (and play some samples of all the songs!) and list an honourable mention. It many cases sometimes the remix of a particular song worked out better than the official album version! What are some of your favourite Macca remixes he's released over the years? This was a lot of fun and our BEST Fest panel yet! We'd like to thank all the Fest attendees who elected to watch this live. Some people left because the room was full and we apologise for that but we hope you enjoy this video recording of the discussion! We'd also like to especially thank Allan Kozinn and Adrian Sinclair for their time and their work on these books. Our first proper episode in a few weeks! Welcome back 2Legs Faithful! For E274 we were honoured to have the esteemed Jeff Slate, a New York City based musician and journalist join us! In this episode we cover a lot of ground! Dylan and Macca's late career albums from 1997 on (Time Out Of Mind & Flaming Pie) being the re-launch for a renaissance for both elder statesmen of rock at the time. "A Complete Unknown", The Beatles solo careers, Wings, Dylan/McCartney's approaches to their archival releases; the standards albums that both have done. Dylan's relationship with George/John and the non-existent one with Macca. We even touch on a little bit of The Who! We dish on how they both sound live currently (double standard ?) and the legacy that both will leave behind. Jeff Slate wrote the liner notes to the 50th Anniversary boxset to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2017) as well as the Dylan Bootleg Series Volume 14: More Blood; More Tracks (2018). He has collaborated with Pete Townshend on several projects. He co-wrote a biography on Roy Orbison with Roy's sons. He has also interviewed Bob himself! If this wasn't enough he has his own solo career and he's just recently released his 4th Solo album The Last Day of Summer which features Dave Stewart and Earl Slick. Jeff is known for some controversial "hot takes" and you may hear 1 or 2 in this episode! We love and appreciate honesty here on 2Legs! Bonus: New Book | "Wings: The Story Of A Band On The Run"

Paul McCartney certainly knows how to stay busy! 2 weeks ago Paul "Rocked The Bowery Ballroom" and closed out the 50th Anniversary of SNL!  Today, 26th February 2025 he announced the forthcoming release of his OWN book titled: "Wings: The Story of a Band On The Run."   The press release: As the Sixties came to a close, Paul was faced with the daunting prospect of being a solo artist for the first time. Wings' ascension to the top of the charts with classic albums including Band on the Run, Venus and Mars and At the Speed of Sound, along with the band's stadium-filling live shows would prove to critics and fans that not all great acts are impossible to follow. Wings:The Story of a Band on the Run is a rousing, stereophonic celebration of the songs, collaborations and performances that would shape the soundtrack of the late 20th century. Drawn from over 500,000 words, based on dozens of hours of interviews with Paul and numerous key players in the band's orbit, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run weaves together the improbable trajectory of Paul McCartney and his newly formed band (featuring co-founding members Linda McCartney and Denny Laine) across the technicolor 1970s until their dissolution in 1981.  Edited by the prize-winning historian Ted Widmer and organized around nine Wings albums, the oral history sheds new light on the immediate aftermath of the seismic global impact of The Beatles' break-up, as the musical landscape and tastes began to splinter and diverge along with societal views. The narrative follows the various incarnations of the band as they survive a mugging in Nigeria, appear unannounced at UK university halls, tour in a sheared-off school bus with their children, while producing some of the most indelible and acclaimed music of the decade, including: “Mull of Kintyre,” “Live and Let Die,” “Band on the Run,” “My Love,” “Jet,” “With a Little Luck,” “Silly Love Songs,” “Let ‘Em In,” “Junior's Farm” and more.  With more than 100 black-and-white and color photographs, many never seen before, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run is part of a larger reexamination and appreciation of the group and their catalog, including the 2024 theatrical release of the rare Wings live-in-studio performance film One Hand Clapping and its accompanying album; 50th anniversary editions of the Wings albums Band on the Run (released February 2024) and Venus and Mars (releasing March 2025); and a forthcoming documentary on Paul McCartney's solo and Wings-related musical work of the 1970s from Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Morgan Neville. 2025 is shaping up to be a FANTASTIC year for all of us Macca-diehards!

Welcome To November 2Legs Listeners! For our first new show of the month we revisit a series we did a few weeks back called "Divided Albums." This time we chose that oft-neglected and overlooked Spring 1976 LP Wings at The Speed of Sound. This album routinely ranks pretty low in the Macca/Wings canon by most fans/critics because of its paint by numbers democratic approach. Despite having two huge hit singles in 'Silly Love Songs' (US #1) and 'Let 'Em In' (US #3). Which makes the album kind of an anomaly in his career. We both think it's a fine album but in the career of Paul McCartney some albums will naturally outshine others. Does it divide the fanbase? Probably. How do you rank the tracks and the album overall? Discuss reasons why it gets the bad rap it has received 23 years on since it's release. 'Freedom', 9/11, The Heather factor. Too long of a record. All these points and more are discussed! It was an album that we (Andy & Tom) were majorly excited for in 2001 when it came out. But it hasn't aged well with later day epics such as Chaos and Creation In The Backyard, Memory Almost Full, Electric Arguments and New. Dino also gives us a background into his super Macca fandom. There are personal stories included here, the Heather Mills era covered quite extensively. A very detailed approach on the tours during this era particularly the European gigs. Among other things, Ian chronicles public appearances Paul made, a very nice chronology to open each year. Paul had made appearances on Wogan in the past, (1986) and made future appearances in 1989 and 1990. The purpose of this visit was to continue to the heavy promotional blitz he was doing at the time to promote All The Best! which was already certified platinum in the UK by this time. You'll see Terry present him with a gift of it. We also discuss the recent additions to the GOT BACK tour and overall shows for the fall. Exciting times for Macca fans! We hope you're all doing well. Summer is here! Did you watch this episode live when it premiered? Let us know! Peace Andy & Tom

We are very happy to have one of the distinguished authors/researchers/film editor Adrian Sinclair back on 2Legs this week. Adrian is the co-author of the celebrated The McCartney Legacy Volume 1 1969-73, along with Allan Kozinn. Adrian joins Andy and Tom as he gives an overview of this period in Wings history. Starting with the seeds of the era in during the infamous trip to Nashville in the Summer of 1974, then Geoff Britton and Jimmy McCulloch joining before heading back to London and Abbey Road where One Hand Clapping was planned to be filmed and released. The film was directed by David Litchfield but has remained on the shelf but snippets have been officially released most recently on the Archive Edition of Band On The Run (Nov. 2010). Adrian tells us about meeting David Litchfield and we are also happy to include a short soundbite of an interview he conducted with Litchfield during 2018. All this on the heels of One Hand Clapping the soundtrack album which is due out next week on the 14th June. We hope this episode gears you up even more for the release. Volume 2 of the McCartney Legacy is expected to be released on 10th December 2024. We thank Adrian for his time and hope you enjoy it! Andy and Tom

(As the album finally shot to #1 in the US in the Summer of 1974). Luca explains why a singular text on Band on The Run is needed, (and more McCartney albums, as you will hear/see. Contexualising the period from whence it came, we discuss the Lagos trip, conditions, the crucial role Assistant Engineer Pete Sweetenham (Geoff Emerick's assistant) plays in the development of some areas of research. Contemporary reviews, polyphonic art forms, we cover it all here and more. Thanks Luca. We can't wait to see what else is coming down the road from you!  Luca was also consulted by MPL for research on the 2022 release The 7" Singles Box.   Luca's New Book on Band On The Run.  Peace, Andy & Tom

It's been a hectic April! New Ringo EP, One Hand Clapping announced this past week, RSD and now finally a "new" Beatles related text has been published. All You Need Is Love: The Beatles In Their Own Words is a new book of interview transcripts conducted by long time Beatles associate Peter Brown and his co-author Steven Gaines. These interviews were conducted between 1979 and 1981 with all then surviving members of the Beatles and their entourage which formed the basis for their 1983 controversial "tell all" book The Love You Make: An Insider's Story on The Beatles. One of the more significant interviews is the one that Paul gave for the book. Which we think took place sometime in 1980 (There are no dates given for the interviews but it was certainly before December 1980 as he refers to John in the present. Much of the interview questions centered around the breakup and his relationships with Brian, John, Yoko and Linda. Have you picked it up yet? Thoughts? Let us know! Peace Andy & Tom

Calling all Bootleg Fans! It's like Christmas in April! Recent boots have surfaced (don't ask us where to find them!), stemming from the Geoff Emerick Estate sale which includes many Rough Mixes of BOTR material as well as later Wings material. These are on the Misterclaudel and HMC labels. We have only heard the Misterclaudel as of this recording. We would also like to give a special shout out to Hoffman/Beatles forum member "mikecarrea" who always has the inside scoop on this stuff and has painstakingly broken down the differences between the two.  His analysis can be found here.  We discuss the potential use of AI on some of these tracks. In favour of it or not? Have you heard any of these yet? Peace, Andy & Tom (PS - We do not condone the purchasing of bootlegs whatsoever).

We are very proud to announce the start of a recurring monthly series (which will be a regular episode) titled Iconic Song Series.  We will pick one Classic McCartney solo track and once a month we will be joined by Allan Kozinn and (eventually) Adrian Sinclair.  Co-Authors of the celebrated The McCartney Legacy. By now all followers of our show and McCartney fans in general know that Volume 2 of their book has been announced and scheduled for a 10 December release with pre-orders available now on Amazon.   We were beyond happy that Allan and Adrian were willing to join us for a recurring show on 2Legs.  And this topic lends itself well.  For the first installment we chose 1970's 'Maybe I'm Amazed' from Paul's first solo album McCartney. We discuss historical significance, where Paul was at the time (personally and professionally), lyrical meaning, track by track (analysis). (As in number of tracks used to make the record.). It's well known that Paul recorded much of McCartney at home over on Cavendish Avenue.  But for what is essentially one of if not his best known solo song Paul recorded this at E.M.I.   These and all the other tiny details we all love to learn about are included in this episode! We thank Allan and Adrian for joining us for this series and we look forward to doing more! Suggestions?  Let us know or email us! All The Best!  Andy and Tom

Hello 2Legs Faithful! This week we chose to analyse (in real time) another vintage Paul interview. As we have done in the past, (1986's Paul McCartney Special) etc. This time around we opted to view the rare 1980 Interview conducted by Tim Rice of all people which was recorded in May 1980 and later released that August. This was a promotional piece to promote McCartney II which had just been released. We like to focus on interviews pre-1989/90 when Paul's interviews became more formulaic with his answers. And certainly any interview pre-December 1980 are valuable. We find that to be the case with this one. And would a video interview about a new solo album in 1980 have happened without the events that happened in January of that year? We discuss all this and more. How do you feel about Paul's interviews over the years? Let us know in the comments! See ya next time  Andy & Tom

Hi Everyone! Fresh and Rested from the FEST, Episode 238 finds Andy and Tom discussing the second compilation hits package from Paul, All The Best! from 1987 and it's UK vs US configurations and our earliest memories with it. We think it holds up rather well and a brilliant marketing and promotional campaign ensured the album sold well in the homeland (#2) while not doing as well in the US (#62). It was a pretty pivotal moment in Macca's career coming after some bad critical reviews with Give My Regards To Broad Street (84) and Press To Play (86). (Even tho we still love them). He was also pushing a new single at the time with 'Once Upon A Long Ago.' We discuss this and ponder other potential tracks that could've gone on it. Ta Ra, All The Best! :) Andy and Tom
