Our first proper episode in a few weeks! Welcome back 2Legs Faithful! For E274 we were honoured to have the esteemed Jeff Slate, a New York City based musician and journalist join us! In this episode we cover a lot of ground! Dylan and Macca's late career albums from 1997 on (Time Out Of Mind & Flaming Pie) being the re-launch for a renaissance for both elder statesmen of rock at the time. "A Complete Unknown", The Beatles solo careers, Wings, Dylan/McCartney's approaches to their archival releases; the standards albums that both have done. Dylan's relationship with George/John and the non-existent one with Macca. We even touch on a little bit of The Who! We dish on how they both sound live currently (double standard ?) and the legacy that both will leave behind. Jeff Slate wrote the liner notes to the 50th Anniversary boxset to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2017) as well as the Dylan Bootleg Series Volume 14: More Blood; More Tracks (2018). He has collaborated with Pete Townshend on several projects. He co-wrote a biography on Roy Orbison with Roy's sons. He has also interviewed Bob himself! If this wasn't enough he has his own solo career and he's just recently released his 4th Solo album The Last Day of Summer which features Dave Stewart and Earl Slick. Jeff is known for some controversial "hot takes" and you may hear 1 or 2 in this episode! We love and appreciate honesty here on 2Legs! To keep up with all of Jeff's activity please visit his website: Also, please consider joining our Patreon to get early access to shows, merch and our Discord server!

Hello All! Another Guest Author Interview! This week Tom and Andy were joined by Dr. Richard Driver, Author of the new book That Was Me: Paul McCartney's Career and Legacy Of The Beatles. Richard's book analyses The Beatles' impact culturally in America, and then Paul's trajectory throughout the 60s. The majority of his book is all about Paul Solo (which we all love since so many books are not written that way). We contextualise some of the Beatles impact during the 60s during our discussion which was quite fun. ("Popular Than Jesus"/"Two Virgins"/Drugs etc). Paul and his workaholic lifestyle as a coping mechanism. And of course discussion on Paul/Wings and the like. All fun stuff. Richard is a 2nd generation fan who caught the Macca bug circa the Flaming Pie era. It was a very fun discussion and we really look forward to having Richard on again! ¡Hola!
McCARTNEY IN THE NINETIES: 1995-1997 yet another virtual slumber party with Brian Jacobs and Craig Smith Join Brian Jacobs and Craig Smith once again for the third of four installments in the latest four-part trilogy covering Paul McCartney's nineties output. This podcast is presented by the Pods & Sods Network. You can hear us getting up and grabbing a chair at podsodcast.com (yeeeeeaaaaaah!!!)
So after dinner the boys dived head long into side 2. Some say it's better than Dark Side of the Moon & sparked rumours of it inspiring McCartney to release “Flaming Pie”. We'll let you decide
We're celebrating what we think is Paul's finest hour as a solo artist; Flaming Pie. With a title inspired by John Lennon and coming off the Beatles Anthology releases, we can't help but hear the influences of reuniting with his old band mates, and the inspiration and energy he put into the recording of this fine album.Follow us: Instagram Facebook Watch us on YouTube!

The first half of 1960 turned out to be a significant one for John, Paul, and George as they find a new bandmate, a manager, and even a new name for their band. Before They Were Beatles - Episode 12 - A Man On A Flaming Pie This is the story of how one of the thousands of amateur British schoolboy skiffle bands in the mid-1950s evolved into the beginnings of the greatest band in popular history. It's a story of hope, creativity, and exploring musical boundaries. It's also a story of tragedy, coincidence, and at times just sheer luck. It is a story of beginnings, the story of John, Paul, George, and Ringo - Before They Were Beatles. ************** The music heard in this episode included: The Quarrymen - In Spite of All The Danger Eddie Cochran - Come On Everybody The Crickets - I Fought The Law The Beatles (with Stuart Sutcliffe) - Hallelujah I Lover Her So / You'll Be Mine / Cayenne You can find full versions of the music heard in this episode in the dedicated Before They Were Beatles Podcast YouTube channel - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP0CDQdLe-G141LlqyBu8rC8ap6voBhZe . Hey everyone, we are back with part 2/3 of our look at 1997's Flaming Pie. Though, the difference this week is that ALL of the content is actually about the album in question! In this episode we will talk about everyone everyone involved in the album, its production, promotion, sales and reception. You might say that it's heaven on a Sunday... The reason this is in 3 parts in because there have been more notes than any episode previously, and I wanted to make sure I still got something out for you to listen to. Though, I think you will agree with me (by the end) that this split is justified. Please enjoy. Tropic Island Hum. And a lots of lovely Linda happenings... We're having another big slice of Paul McCartney's Flaming Pie in this bonus episode. In it, we reveal our own personal cuts of the album. It will not be a shock that Paul Murphy omitted the title track! Paul also responds to listener feedback on his album review. We talk about seeing Macca live. On one occasion, this involved us jogging through Glasgow on a Friday night & standing in vomit for 40 minutes on a train! Hear the full story in the pod. Paul M's Mum was lucky enough to see Wings live in 1975. Hear what stories she relayed to Paul from that (birthday cake for Linda & Paul's gangster shoes!). Stephen explains why he'd love to hear an acoustic McCartney album. We discuss Macca latterly getting the respect/credit he deserves for his music. And we debate whether albums have a future in the streaming world. Have a ‘Great Day'! Thanks for listening. Like the podcast? In it, we take our scissors to one of our musical heroes, Paul McCartney, and his highly regarded 1997 album - Flaming Pie. What songs will survive the cull as we attempt to make it shorter for a better listening experience. Hear Paul Murphy's hate for the title track; what was entertaining the UK in 1997 (Spice Girls & Teletubbies); Heather Mills jokes; thoughts on McCartney III; and surprising sales figures. In the summer of 1995 Paul hosted his own radio show titled "Oobu Joobu"which was syndicated across the USA. The show was a mixed bag of influential music from his & the Beatles past, reggae music, interview clips, a section on Linda's cooking the aptly titled "Cook of the House". Most importantly it contained the first commercial airing of many McCartney demos/outtakes and soundchecks. This week on 2Legs Tom and Andy are joined by their in-house artist Ethan Alexanian as they discuss their favorite portions of the show as they re-cap the 15 episodes. They also discuss the frankenstein aspect of how the series is represented on the Flaming Pie singles from 1997. Ethan and Andy also discuss the start of their new show "Anything But The Beatles". Did you listen to the show originally in 1995? Was it as good as you remembered? Worth a revisit? or nah? Tell us below!

Let It Be - box?
