Two boys with short attention spans, talk Movies, TV, & Video Games
This week the boys talk about the first half of the surprisingly strong Amazon series Fallout. Like seriously, this was SO much better than we expected, it's honestly as shocking as the USSR pumping a ton of nukes our way. What's that? Oh yeah, the USSR is still around in the Fallout series, just like black and white TV's and other 1950's things.... yeah it's a whole thing and we DEFINITELY cover it all in the most graceful way imaginable. Plus we have a full episodes worth of news! There's a new trailer for Joker: Foilé a Deux, they are making a Last Ronin movie (and game which we apparently already talked about on a previous episode) and emulators are now available on the Apple App Store (officially) for the first time! Finally, another place to play old Pokémon games! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week Jake and Ryan jump back into the late 90's to look at this fantastic Disney + sequel series, X-Men '97! They also have a jam-packed week of news, from a supposed Happy Gilmore sequel being developed on Netflix, to a new trailer for Colin Farrell's Penguin, to how music and tv kinda sucks in the modern age. Hey, we do it all on this show. And we're getting older and we like to complain sometimes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We have another bumper episode of news, with some new trailers for the Star Wars Acolyte series, The Crow, & announcements that The Batman 2 is being delayed, a second season of Peacemaker is coming.... sometime... they're making another animated Cat in the Hat movie... in 2026... and that Blade movie is never coming out. Like seriously. Point being, new movies will come out eventually! And rest assured, when they do, Almost Accurate will be here watching them. But in the meantime, we sit and speculate. So why not relax and have some speculating time with us, won't you? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Wow that was a long title. I've had to put my thumbs on ice from all of the typing I've just done. Anyways, I guess it's time to write an episode description unless you all think that title is long enough. You know what? I'll say it again. This is about playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and we talk about watching Midsummer and the movie Thanksgiving (the movie, not the holiday. Our review of the holiday of Thanksgiving is like, way different). Also there's some news. Anything we miss?? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The boys have been sick but the news doesn't stop! Jake snagged an Analogue Pocket (IYKYK) which is pretty rad, Madam Web has been a huge 'effing flop for Marvel & Sony, Star Wars is releasing a collection of Battlefront games, and SO SO many more things! Strap in y'all, 3 weeks is a lot of time for news to accumulate and the boys do their dardnest to plow through all this packed in winter news. Lord help us. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We're joining the 20-million something players that are checking out Palworld! Is it innovative and new and unlike anything that's ever been seen before? Come on now, you know we were joking about that part. The boys also talk Jon Stewart returning to the Daily Show, that INSANE looking Death Stranding 2 trailer, and more in this week's episode! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Almost Accurate has hit 200 episodes and it's a milestone for the podcast. How do the boys celebrate? They lightly talk briefly about Saltburn and mostly get sentimental about everything that's changed in their lives over these past 5 plus years and 200 episodes! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Well well well, it's that time of year again.... it's the first week of January, so naturally for Almost Accurate we're going to review the year that was in 2023 in all of the formats of media that were (as long as those formats are movies, TV shows and videos that is). It's an annual tradition for us (except of course for last year when the podcast was paused for some obvious reasons) and we're happy to be back doing it again. We had so much fun recording this one we didn't even bother to try and write any jokes or snarky comments or anything like that, just happy to be here and talk about things that made us happy in the year that was, so pull up a seat, and spin it around like a cool teacher and listen to us review that year that was 2023! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's the most wonderful time, IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME FOR THE GAME AWARDSSSSSSSS!That's right folks, it's December once again, and it's time to both watch and recap a 3 and a half-hour commercial for video games and we are happy to once again do it. We've got new DLC for God of War Ragnarok, they're making a new Blade game for the Xbox, Sean Murray got onstage and overpromised once again as Hello Games are making an entirely new PLANET. There's so much to talk about! And we're here for it, once again. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ryan has survived a second bout of Covid and the boys have returned with a BUMPER episode this week. Has some news happened in the 3 weeks that we've been off the air? You bet it has. We're talking leaks, rumors, the new GTA VI trailer (that apparently some people on twitter... excuse us, x.com are upset about) and SO MUCH MORE.Also, have y'all been watching Netflix's new version of Squid Game? We kinda hate that it exists but we also hate that we love it. Squid Game: The Challenge is so well done on almost every level that we're hard pressed to not recommend that you at least watch it, because we sure have. So strap in! We've had a couple of weeks off but we're back and clearly have missed each other and hope that you guys enjoy the ride. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Y'all see Showtime's The Curse yet? It's a slow burn in the first episode for a bit but then it suddenly goes 100 MILES PER HOUR AND YOU WON'T KNOW LITERALLY WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO YOU. AM I TYPING WITH MY CAPS LOCK ON FOR DRAMATIC EFFECT OR IS THIS AN ACCIDENT??! The boys also have a TON (see I did it again) of news to get through this week, from rumors that Pedro Pascal is set to join the MCU, The Marvels has done a big 'ole flop at the box office, and Insomniac seemingly confirming that Miles Morales will be the primary Spider-Man going forward, and even more! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Just what the title says. How on earth do Jake and Ryan combine the adapted works of Edgar Allan Poe and Sony's latest PS5 exclusive into one episode? How does that even work? Does it sound as disjointed and potentially all over the place as that title sounds? Yes. Well kinda. Both of these are great though so why not put them into one episode together, dontchathink? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
An extra late night recording session has led to an extra silly episode so apologies in advance everyone! The boys have watched the opening two episodes of Loki Season 2 and so far it's off to a great start! Sony has slimmed down the PS5 and fattened up the price tag on extras they want to charge you for, Netflix is apparently trying to start up their own Dave & Busters, Taylor Swift is holding the entire economy together single-handedly, and Ezra Miller isn't going to be the Flash anymore. Wow. No way. Strap in folks and have fun with this one! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's officially SPOOKY SEASON and the boys down at Almost Accurate HQ have been hard at work curating a list of all (or at least 34) of our favorite horror movies and horror movie recommendations for this October. How'd we do? Well Ryan went all out in his list, so if you want to hear us talking about Cabin in the Woods, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, Japanese horror movies and EVEN MORE then stick around for this special episode! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Jake has been diving into the Starfield via Microsoft's magical Xcloud, and Ryan has been watching some GEMS of horror movies. That's right, we're talking about The Gate, we're talking about My Bloody Valentine, we're talking about Evil Dead Rise, we're talking Joe Dirt and Joe Dirt 2 (wait maybe those last ones aren't in the same genre). So sit back, and relax as we take you to some far away places and realties in this episode! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ryan has been on a TEAR lately and he's got to tell you all about the Meg 2 and even more importantly (and insanely) They Cloned Tyrone- a Netflix Original Movie which is somehow flying under the radar... but hopefully after this episode, that will no longer be the case! RIP Bob Barker and Jimmy Buffet Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Whew.... my hands are tired from the sheer length of this episodes title, but don't you listener's worry, it's quite dirty with content as well. Jake is a sucker that bought that Read Dead Redemption Re-Release, and also went to see Oppenheimer (which rules btw) Ryan went to see Disney's Haunted Mansion and is bucking the trend of critics who say it sucks (because he thought it was actually a fun and enjoyable movie). So yeah. There's that. You got something to say about that? That King of the Hill reboot can't come soon enough. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Fresh off a summer vacation, Jake and Ryan are back and they have been BUSY. The boys check in on their summer reading, including the newly billion dollar earning Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Mutant Mayhem, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning (Part 1) and, just because Ryan was feeling nostalgic, rewatching the original Fast and the Furious. Ahhh... what a simpler time it was when it was only about family, Corona's, cars, and occasionally stealing some DVD players. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week the boys have a Nintendo Direct to get through, E3 is canceled for the next two years (and let's be honest, probably for the rest of forever) and more!HBO's The Righteous Gemstones is back for a two-episode Season 3 premiere and it is excellent as always, and the boys have also watched Flamin' Hot, the story of the creation of flaming hot Cheeto's which is either a wholesome family movie that tells a great story (if you're a normal person) or it's woke propaganda gone mad (you know... if you're a lunatic). Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's time for a colorful and eye-catching swing across the Spider-Verse folks! Also teeing up in the news, Apple is finally realizing that there is money to be made in gaming, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 FINALLY has a release date, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been delayed (kinda) until 2024, and Will Smith is starring in what looks like a bad open-world zombie game with an even worse title! (It's called Undawn... like what is is that, C'mon.....) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Just like in Tears of the Kingdom, Jake and Ryan are picking up a lot of disparate news stories, awkwardly rotating them around and then fusing them all together to create yet another episode of Almost Accurate. SPOILER ALERT: Tears of the Kingdom is REALLY good. Another spoiler alert: Sony's Spider-Man 2 looks epic, and that weird handheld doesn't seem like it's going to be the most useful thing. Still might buy it though. We'll see...... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's 2023 and there's another writers strike, and we at Almost Accurate are going to take the very bold position that if you do work for someone, you should get paid fairly for that! Again, don't want to be too controversial, that's just how we feel. We've got a big episode full of news this fortnight and of course the writer's strike is the biggest one of all and is affecting most of our news stories with all of the productions that are now halted, but we do still have a few morsels that are still floating around out there. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is releasing imminently, Eva Longoria has made a movie about the true story of the creation of Flaming Hot Cheetos, Disney + and Hulu are planning on merging (sort of... well kinda) Hollow Knight Silksong has been delayed, and Beetlejuice 2 is finally, FINALLY going to come out in the fall of 2024. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Podcasting every two weeks means there is PLENTY of news to catch up on! People are review-bombing the new Horizon DLC for the dumbest reason possible, The Guardians of the Galaxy are getting edgy and swearing now (lol) and Ryan talks about watching Renfield! Jake has been playing the new Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC (which is excellent) and both of your boys watched Apple TV's Tetris movie (which goes in multiple insane directions). Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Jake & Ryan are bros and these bros are now back with a new podcast every other week and MAMMA MIA if that isn't something to be excited about! Why did we say MAMMA MIA?? Well I think you all can guess where this is going. It's time to talk about the Super Mario Bros. movie and man.... that sure does qualify as a movie doesn't it?Plus we've got Star Wars Celebration news to catch up on, a slew of animated series from Scott Pilgrim to Stranger Things are coming to Netflix, plus some new recommendations from the boys! Check out Wolf Cop, Poker Face and the new Netflix hit, Beef! BEEF. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The boys have a lot of news this week. Is all of it relevant? Who's to say. But man they sure do love some Jersey Shore and that spinoff podcast will surely come to fruition someday. But Jake and Ryan are back to cover the finale of HBO's The Last of Us. Is it a truly satisfying conclusion to this post apocalyptic journey we've been on for two months? Or does it leave us wanting more? (it does, this show is great). Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this extra EXTRA long episode of Almost Accurate Jake and Ryan talk about HBO's latest series that has taken the world by infected storm, The Last of US. A brutal, harrowing experience to watch, The Last of Us shows that there actually ARE some video games that have good stories and this turns out to be a faithful adaptation that adds enough new elements that allow it to stand apart from the source material in a way that feels natural, confident, and carries a high degree of polish. This series is so good I didn't even feel like typing any of our normal dumb jokes into here. No need. Seriously, it's that good. We break down each episode (well.... episodes 1-7 at least) and we'll cover the conclusion on our next podcast! Clearly we're over two hours here, we had to call time at some point. If you haven't watched the show yet we couldn't possibly recommend it more! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Hey Guys! We don't have a new episode this week unfortunately but in light of that and being excited for the new season of The Mandalorian, we decided to have a look back at when we first met Mando all the way back in the fall of 2019 and it is a delight to revisit what we thought of this all when it was new! Also- quite of a bit of Death Stranding talk because that was another new and weird thing (and turned out to be a very accurate depiction of what the world would look like just a few months after these episodes originally went up). So enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Mando Mando Mando, you sure are back aren't ya? Oh ya wanna go back home and take a bath? You wanna fight a big ole crab man and take a bath? Looks like that little green dude is back too it seems. Yeah Jake and Ryan have watched the opening episode of The Mandalorian season 3 and it turns out... pretty good so far! The boys are back on Discord and are ready to talk about Mando and the week in news. What a week it was! Well... maybe not that many news items....Metroid Fusion is coming to Nintendo Switch Online, Nicolas Cage says he doesn't need to be in the MCU (even though he WAS Ghostrider technically), TMNT has a gorgeous new trailer, animation style and a star-studded cast and much much more this week! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Is the new Ant-Man really that bad? The boys discuss. But as always with Almost Accurate you know that's not the only thing that we're talking about. There's news and tons of it! Metroid Prime Remastered physical copies are sold out and people are scalping them for ridiculous prices on eBay, Walter White's eighty-whities are selling for big money, Umbrella Academy season 4 just picked up some decent new faces and much much more! Also the movie Smile can suck it. Bad movie. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
After a four month break the boys are BACK! There's been plenty of changes in their personal lives but Jake and Ryan are back and are catching up on everything that's happened! Not like anything big or important has happened in the world of movies, tv & video games... right? Right? The boys talk about the freshly released Metroid Prime Remastered, God of War Ragnarok, Ghostwire Tokyo, Wakanda Forever, Amsterdam and much much more! Turns out taking four months away from a podcast really does give you plenty to talk about! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ryan is on baby watch so the boys are back on Zoom! Jake breaks down Andor (which is surprisngly good) and Ryan talks about the Devil in Ohio (which…. well just listen to what he has to say aobut it. It's not pretty. It's not good either). CD Projekt Red has announced SEVERAL new Witcher and Cyberpunk games that they're working on (that should keep them busy for the next 60-70 years it would seem), Bruce Willis reportledly sold his rights to a company that specializes in deepfakes, only for us to learn that that apparnelty did NOT happen, and more in this week's episode of Almost Accurate! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Jake had quite the dytpotian weekend. Home alone and it was time to watch some movies set in a rather depressing futuristic setting. How does Blade Runner stack up as a movie watching experience in 2022? Answer- not super well it turns out! Surely the seuqel Blade Runner 2049 improves upon that well established formula right? Well… it sort of does, but it also sort've does certain things much much worse as it turns out. But it's not all glowing neon gloom and doom! CyberPunk Edgerunners is out on Netflix and it turns out to actually be a really, really solid and well made anime. MUCH of an improvmenet over that mess of a game that CD Projket Red put out a few years ago (yes I know they've patched it a bunch, it's just not very fun to play). As it turns out, well -written characters that you care about and performances from people that don't sound like they've just been woken up from a mid-morning nap (looking at you Keanu Reeves) makes for an interesting formula! WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT THAT????!!Also the boys talk about Tom Hanks saying he's only been in 4 good movies (and what they think they are…. let's face it, it's gotta be Turner and Hooch), James Earl Jones is officially retiring from acting…. kind of….. and more! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Listen up y'all- some real life shit is going on in the boys life. Ryan is about to have a kid at literally any moment and Jake is getting married in the extremely near future so, our upload schedule is going to be a bit hit and miss for the time being.Does that mean that we're skipping on the quality of our podcast? Well if you have a listen to this episode I think that the answer to that will be extremely obvious that it's exactly in line where it's been pretty much this entire time. Does that mean that some of the news items that we're talking about will probably be 1-2 old by the time that we're getting around to talking about them? You bet your ass they are. Disney, Nintendo, and Sony all had some pretty big press conferences about their future plans. Yes- literally all of this is old news at this point. If you're really tuned into this kind of stuff, you've probably already seen what they have on offer. But we try and recap most of it! Ryan also had a special request that we just couldn't refuse this week. Willy's Wonderland was his #1 movie of 2021 and we've finally got around to dedicating an entire episode to it- turns out it is VERY much worth it. If you haven't watched it before- give it a shot! It's dumb as hell, but man oh man is it a good time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Fresh from a week off, Jake and Ryan are back and they've been watching some horror movies... mostly the horrors of being Elvis Pressley in Baz Luhrman's universe. We shudder to think what that would actually be like. Ryan has been watching The Perfection, the boys have both watched that horrible looking Winnie the Pooh horror movie trailer and much much more as they catch up on this week's episode of Almost Accurate! Sadly no new episode this week folks.... looks like we're going to have to repackage the some old stuff and change a few things slightly and pass it off as an entirely new thing. But no one would ever try and do that. No gigantic company that has a mouse for a mascot would even dare to spend billions of dollars on a beloved franchise, try and change a few characters names and genders and attempt to recapture the magic of days gone past and produce something that people really enjoyed until they started to give it some critical thought and realize that they've seen something like that before. NAY! Nor would same gigantic corporate then take same beloved franchise that they gave what some people would call "a soft reboot" of old material and made a new thing, and then to follow it up actually make something that is new and interesting! That second attempt surely wouldn't turn out to be perhaps the best entry in beloved franchise that has been around for a while, but makes some angry people on the internet upset would they? Nor would said gigantic corporation then actually make the foolish mistake of listening to angry people on the internet and then follow up a great idea with a bunch of terrible bad ideas, fire multiple film directors, bring back the first director and then scour Reddit for some weird fan theories, throw all of that in a blender and make a third installment in a trilogy. NO ONE WOULD BE CRAZY ENOUGH TO DO THAT RIGHT?Anyways, sorry there's no new episode this week and we couldn't think of a good analogy so we just cut together our reviews of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. Hope you guys enjoy! Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Visit acast.com/privacy for more information.
What's up people! This week Almost Accurate is back to compare and contract two EXTREMELY different series. Couldn't guess? Well no worries, it's She Hulk and Only Murders in the Building! One is a well-established series that is concuding its second series on Hulu, and another is just barely getting underway on Disney +. Turns out, they couldn't be more different and Jake and Ryan have PLENTY to say about how they turn out. It sure looks like a giant corporate like Disney sure can have different ways of approaching a series, don't they? Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Well well well.. if the boys haven't found themselves a room and if it isn't time to apparently talk about what the streets are saying is apparently the most WOKE movie of all time apparently, that's right, it's time to talk about Prey. Which in case you want to peer through all the right wing bullshit about this being a woke movie because it dares to depict a semi-accurate view of life in the early 1700's before English settlers had conquered what would become the United States, it's actually an interesting, fun take on what a Predator movie in the early 1700's would actually be like. Spoiler alert: it's fun. It's a wonderful, well- acted and well scripted movie and we are actually quite happy to have partaken in it. Apparent 'woeness" and all, Prey is a solid and fun action horror movie, and we honestly couldn't be happier to recommend it to you all! Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Well the boys are back on Google Meet and if the world wasn't already a mess, so is DC. Seriously... what are they DOING over there? Batgirl is DONE. DC is going around to everyone's house and erasing their hard drives, everyone got fired, and no one is legally allowed to even say the word Batgirl anymore. That 10 year plan they're talking about? Don't hold your breath. Anyhow... enough about Warner Brothers suddenly merging with Discovery out of the blue, it's time for a spoiler chat on the excellent third season of The Umbrella Academy. Man what a show. Jake and Ryan break down the entire season, so enjoy our full-spoiler review of this treat. Hopefully back to in-person podcasting next week! We'll be talking Prey and hope we see all there
Happy Shark week! We don't talk about Shark Week on this episode whatsoever, we just are trying to get into the spirit of the season. But good lord are there a bunch of new things to talk about! We've still been playing Stray and that game is incredible, and wraps things up witha delightful little ending. Sometimes it's great to just kick back and pretend to be a cat for an afternoon. Makes for some great stories. And you'll make a lot of robot friends in the process too! Umbrella Academy realeased their season 3 something like 14 years ago it feels like, and we're finally getting around to watching it and talking about it! What an upward trajectroy this show has been on from that absolutely drab and lackluter first season to now! If you haven't watched this show, don't sleep on it. It's amazing and season 3 is the best one yet! Marvel also detailed their upcoming Phase 5 and 6 and they will NEVER EVER stop releasing new content. We break down the entire list and nearly lose our voices in the process. Yeah, there was a lot to get through on this week's episode. It's a shame to still be over Zoom but that's just the way it goes nowadasys folks. We hope to be back to some in person recording soon! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
After a much needed break, Jake is back from France and he's brought home a lovely souvenir. That's right, it's Covid! So apologies in advance for both a) the audio quality of this episode and b) the overall horrible sound of one of the hosts voice, and their general overall grumpy demeanor
On this episode Jake and Ryan dive head first (and perhaps other parts of the body first) into some more of The Boys Season 3, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale. Both of which are great, and man oh man is it a relief to finally be talking about things that are GOOD. No joke, we literally are in a golden age of good stuff coming out in the TV format and we are so lucky to be able to finally have new stuff that is good and new and man, what a great time to have a podcast. Nintendo had a mini-direct where they announced stuffed that we've already played like Persona and Mega-Man but if YOU haven't played them yet you really should (because they've awesome games and come on... you really got something better to do right now?) But once again, strap in, and buckle up because we've got some hot takes and we're just happy to have you all along for the ride this week on Almost Accurate! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week the boys return with a new episode full of NEWS! How much new stuff are we talking about??! Well since we missed last week we have some content to catch up on, but there's plenty (a few) new things to talk about this week. How about that Lyle Lyle Crocodile trailer that just dropped? Looks good doesn't it (not really) How about how one or both of us thought it might actually be a continuation of the Loki extended universe and not a property in the public domain that Sony decided to appropriate and turn into a new musical franchise? But.... even with that potential disappointment, there are still plenty of new stuff to talk about! Square Enix is really trying to squeeze all they can out of the Final Fantasy 7 franchise by finally releasing a few scant details about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and offering an entirely different (and new) take on a Final Fantasy 7 remake, with Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis! Hey, we wanted a mobile version that's kind've a cross between the remake and the original right....? That's what we asked for... right?? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Well.... no new episode this week guys, but keeping with our recent Star Wars theme, lets turn back the pages and take a look at the original Star Wars Trilogy! FYI- the only reason we covered this two years ago during the very height of COVID was because there was literally NOTHING new coming out, and Star Wars is comfort food. SPOILER ALERT- all of these are good movies. But are they overall still the best in the franchise? (Yes). Here's looking to be back soon with some more new episodes! In the meantime, sink back into the nice and warm bath that is original Star Wars in all of it's nostalgic goodness. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Jake and Ryan might be a day later than usual, but that's only because it's taken a literal act of God to get this episode in this week. It's time for us to talk about our favorite all time folk band, it's Obi-Wan & The Boys!3 episodes into each TV show, Jake and Ryan give the rundown on what are two excellent shows, that are hitting the ground running in just about every conceivable way. Yeah. We have two good shows and what a relief that is for new content! We also have more news than perhaps we've ever seen, Sony had a new State of Play and announced a few things, we have a new trailer for Jordan Peele's Nope, Rob Zombie's Munsters reboot has a trailer and so SO much more! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
It's another week, but Jake and Ryan are still on the highway to the DANGER ZONE. That's right, it's time to talk about the (excellent) Top Gun seuqel, Top Gun Maverick! No spoilers, but this is one of the most fun, popcorn movies you can see in theaters right now. It's seriously so much fun. Go see it! We're also breaking down reactions to Star Wars Celebration 2022, the newly announced Skeleton Crew series, and that Cassian Andor trailer! Sony is also balling out with spinoffs for all of it's video game franchises. Seriously, they're pulling an Oprah it seems. Horizon- you get a spinoff series on Netflix. God of War- you get a spinoff series on Amazon. Gran Turismo??! HELL YEAH Gran Turismo you're somehow getting a spinoff series on a yet to be announced platform as well. (Seriously, how are they going to make a Gran Turismo show… I literally… yeah okay I guess we'll just have to wait and see….) It's time for Jake and Ryan to ride into the DANGER ZONE for the very first time (or at least the first time since they were very young kids) as they take a look back on the original Top Gun in anticipation for this week's Top Gun Maverick. How does this nearly 40 year old movie stand up to our lofty modern standards? Are there certain parts of it that haven't necessarily aged very well? Yes, yes there certainly are (looking at you Tom Cruise being a mega creep and following Kelly McGillis into that bathroom and being all like hey what's up, you tryna do this or what?) Are there certain practical effects that involve airplanes that absolutely have stood the test of time and still look absolutely amazing? Yeah, there certainly are (and man those fighter jets still do look incredible even now). It's a not so complex movie that has a more complex than needed impact that it's made on modern pop-culture, but Top Gun is still a movie that is deserving of a watch in 2022 if you haven't seen it before (and you're interested in seeing that long anticipated sequel). So give it a watch! Let us know what you think, if we're just being a goose about our critique of this movie, or maybe if we're indeed a couple of mavericks actually, we'd love to hear what you think! It's been a deep... dark descent into the depths of looking for new content this week, but the boys have ascended from the darkness and pulled out a mostly formed gem. It's time to talk about the new game, Trek to Yomi! If you're a fan of classic samurai cinema, then this is a game that absolutely nails the theme and visual presentation that it's going for, so much more so than other games in its genre. If you're looking for a side scrolling version of Ghost of Tsushima however.... yeah you're going to want to look a bit further than this one. It's a great experience for sure (especially with those PlayStation Pulse 3D headsets) but as far as the combat goes it does get a bit repetitive. Speaking of repetitive... We've got more news this week! Well... same as every week we suppose but still.... we have some big TV shows that are returning soon! The Boys and Only Murders in the Building will both be back this June, Hocus Pocus 2 has finally dropped a release date (guess what, it's close to Halloween, who would've guessed that) and She Hulk has a new trailer and it's coming to Disney + in August! There's literally SO MUCH NEW STUFF that's coming out soon! Can't wait to revisit the 36 year old Top Gun next week... Anyways, bit of a shorter one for us this week, but Trek to Yomi is fun (ish) and there are a lot of things to be excited about coming soon, so GET HYPE. Well it's time to finally enter the multiverse of madness. Is it as multi-verseal or as maddening as we perviously though that it would be? Well... probably not. Is it an endless cavalcade of fan-castings and excepting celebrity cameos from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Well, let's be honest it isn't that either. Is it a good, solid, stand-alone Marvel movie with a compelling man character, antagonist and an interesting side character that will most likely get her own Disney + spinoff show? Well it definitely is that! That's not all that the boys tackle this week. They've also got Hasbro promising to release newly updated versions of their original Star Wars toys, & Avatar has a new trailer! Bold of them to assume that we remember the original, although Pandora's Flight at Disney's Animal Kingdom is an all time banger though, this much cannot be argued.... Jake and Ryan are back with a NEW episode this week. OOOOOOHHH. Justin Lin is out as the director of the new Fast and Furious movie, and we play that weird and awkward video Vin Diesel shot with him about a week before he decided to step down (was fired for fighting with Vin Diesel). But we have so many new things to talk about and so many news stories to get through. Switch Sports is out and it's insane that Nintendo has waited this long to put this collection of games out. How does it stack up to the original on the Wii? Well.... it's a game alright, and it's fun! How does Moon Knight stick the Egyptian landing? It's also well worth the wait, and nice to see Marvel taking a bit of a risk with something a little off kilter for once as well. We're glad to be back in the same room and glad to have some NEW stuff to talk about! Well.... it's a second week of no new content for us, but you know what? We were able to find a rather clever loophole if we do say so ourselves. It turns out that Avengers Endgame released 3 YEARS ago this week, so that was the perfect opportunity to reach back into the Almost Accurate vault, and pull out our movie reviews from episodes 27 and 28 of our podcast. We hope to be back soon with some new episodes, but for now, let's go back in time to 2019 when things were a bit simpler, the world was still kinda shit but not as shit as it got a few months after that, and enjoy talking about when Avengers movies were still in theaters! No new episode this week folks, but that's not to say that there isn't time to take a look back into the past.... and realize how thankful we should be that there are actually GOOD things that are currently coming out now. The boys thought it would be fun to take a look back at movies that fill the infamous podium of the 3 worst movies they've had to suffer through during the course of this podcast, and it just so happens that these 3 gems from 2019 have yet to be bested (you're off the hook for this one Morbius). So sit back, and enjoy the reviews of Hellboy (2019), The Man who Killed Hitler and then the Bigfoot, and Men in Black: International- the true Mount Rushmore of awful movies that we thought would be kind've funny to laugh at but actually just took a few years off our lives.
