Our harrowing hosts Ethan “Bloodlust” Brehm and Nate “Entrails” Evans are your personal guides for this shocking smorgasbord of four shlocky horrors scraped direct from cinema's bottom-barrel that prove you don't need blockbuster budgets to have a good time. Also: listen for a special intro from none other than horror legend Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead and one of the films listed below). Happy Halloween! The Movies: Shlock Til You Drop First up is 1986's Troll (the original and not the “best worst movie”), directed by effects guru John Carl Buechler (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College) that epitomizes the “high-concept / low-budget” genre of horror/comedy that ruled the 1980s home video circuit. Next is 1987's Street Trash, directed by Steadicam master J. Michael Muro (a favorite of James Cameron) and one of the most celebrated of all “melt movie” classics. Third is 1996's Leprechaun 4: In Space, directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith (one of Quentin Tarantino's favorites, apparently). It's not just the best of the Warwick Davis-starring franchise but among the most bat$h!t crazy concepts ever stitched together. Last is 1989's Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge, a reworking of the Phantom mythos directed by Richard Friedman where the real star is the mall itself (RIP) and not an early appearance by Pauly Shore.

What Were They Thinking?

Schlocktober concludes with a discussion of the absolutely pointless capper to the Ring trilogy... well... Rings. Could Vincent D'Onofrio give less of a damn? It's the third week of Schlocktober and we're getting creepy with three 1960's gothic horrors from American International Pictures starring the King of Halloween, Vincent Price! Up first, Price plays a mysterious and afflicted man living in a cursed castle with his sister, but when the sister's lover comes calling all hell breaks loose in House of Usher from 1960, based on the story by Edgar Allan Poe.Then, AIP combines mythology from H.P. Lovecraft and Poe in The Haunted Palace from 1963 about a man who inherits an old mansion from his long deceased relative, not knowing the secrets it and the town around it possess. And finally, Price teams up with Peter Lorre as a couple of down on their luck funeral men who have to create customers, if you know what I mean, in the slapstick Comedy of Terrors from 1963, also starring Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone. All this plus some brief Vegas chat, we announce the winner of the Kevin Moth statue, Sean dives even deeper in Vincent Price, hot Halloween records for your party, Terrifier 2 chat, some hot blu-rays to keep you entertained and so much more!LISTE NOW:MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. Schlocktober can't be stopped! And this week it extends its spooky grip far beyond this mortal world and into the creepy universe of Universal Horror! Join us as we party Halloween-style with all the werewolfs, mummy's, and old-timey comedians that we can squeeze into our living room. Up first! We turn back the clocks to a simpler time when nobody had ever seen a werewolf movie before, with 1935's Werewolf of London, which served as inspiration over the years for countless things, including that time those dudes went to Trader Vic's or whatever. This one's got Henry Hull playing the werewolf, but don't worry if you ain't heard of the dude. He's still got fangs and claws in all the right places. Next up! We head on over to Egypt and crack open a casket or two with The Mummy's Tomb, (from 1942) one of those non-Karloff, Chaney-starring Mummy flicks, wherein a dead man in bandages walks again! And science can scarecly explain it! Finally! Of course, it's 1949's Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff, partially because we seem to be picking these movies in seven year intervals, partially because it's The Year of Karloff, and partially because Sean's fallen in love with grandpa comedians. Hey, it's got a cool cavern scene. All this plus mysteriously upgraded audio quality, the Las Vegas pre-party report, how we get Halloweened, Sweetman's bathtub bonanza, the Munsters is beloved by Bowman, no sneezes, spooky snacks & silly cereals, no burps, Jerry's friendly follow-up, The Fallen One's flick picks, no gleeks, the big boobs up in the sky, s'what's a swami anyhow?, nerd news and even more! Holy Celestials, Batman! What? The wrong comic distributor? Psh. We don't care, the more surprising fact is that Dixon picked a Marvel movie for the Underground Table to watch. He must be in the pocket of big Disney, right? Or maybe he's just a glutton for punishment (and here we thought John was the only one suffering with Schlocktober and all). Regardless the motivation, here we are and we want you to join us. Join Dixon, John, and Ryan at the table as we discuss Marvel's Eternals. Ever feel like ya wanna escape the walking hellscape we currently inhabit in modern times in the western world, but it's still Schlocktober and ya gotta get Halloween-y? Good news, beleaguered Junk Food Junkies! You can take a trip with us to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away: East Asia, circa 1980 through 2001! It's our SPOOKY ASIA theme show! First up, we follow up the fun we had way back when with Mr. Vampire (1985) by digging even deeper into the Chinese Hopping Vampire well by watching the trend-setting early Hong Kong horror/comedy, Encounters of the Spooky Kind (aka Spooky Encounters), from 1980! Everybody's favorite, fattest dragon, Sammo Hung wages war against hopping vampires and marital infidelities in this prototypical Jiangshi flick, but what's the the situation with the optically printed special effects? Are they plentiful?Next up! Y'all remember taking vacations, and what that was like? Well, hopefully none of your vacations involved getting on the bad side of an evil wizard from Thailand, or else your life might resemble the plot of The Eternal Evil of Asia, from 1995! Your first indication might be that your head has turned into a penis, as is common with these sort of enchantments. However, will ONE of your charming hosts decide this film is TOO PROBLEMATIC for 2020?! Maybe/sorta. It was a different time/continent.Finally! It's a third movie! But is it a half-Freado?! Just exactly how much spookiness and how much Asia is there to be seen in the well-regarded J-Horror flick from way back 'round the turn of the century, if most of it is just people talking about the internet or looking at muddy pixels? Will one of us call this movie 'Lynchian?' All these questions answered and more, this week only, in our exclusive and 100% free-to-donloyd review of Pulse (aka Kairo, from 2001)!All this plus suntory whiskey, the first cinematic universe in cinema history, is moleman a pejorative?, 遇见甲虫, the profundity of mashed potatoes, disneymongering, alien parties versus familytime, the last cinematic year in cinematic history?, topsy turvy top ten tabulation, wizard sleeves a-gogo, overlong international excursions into the general area of musicality, do they even shoot pictures anymore?, all of the promised Garfield/CAT-III jokes landed on the cutting room floor, safety tips from the scary police, 'wow', the time Sammo Hung fought David Arquette in Parker Bowman's living room in the future, some special Halloween sacks and scraps of cloth, our weekly news plus blu-ray picks and even more! This week, we're getting spooked & scared & sleepy (???), all courtesy of our pals from the Dom Deluise Patreon Club. We've let these fine folks choose three Schlocktober features for us to chat about, and we deliver on that promise!Up first! Y'all remember the La Casa series of horror films, right? Not so much an actual series of films but instead a marketing ploy that involved selling unrelated fright flicks to an unwitting Italian public, the series includes entries from the Evil Dead and House franchises at various points in time. Our feature this week, Witchery (aka La Casa 4: Witchcraft) from 1988, has no actual relation to those franchises, but does feature a scary house in Scituate, MA. It's also got Linda Blair, David Hasselhoff, and a witch! Next up! Way back in 1988, New World Pictures tried to sneak a hyper-violent zombie horror/comedy past our noses by burying it inside a buddy-cop film called Dead Heat, with Joe Piscopo and Treat "Gotta Eat" Williams in the lead roles. But will this odd concoction go down smoothly? The answer will surprise you. Finally! It's a third film: Leprechaun Returns, the SyFy Original sequel to the original Leprechaun which ignores all of the other sequels and starts a new fork in the canon. Nobody's expecting this to be good, right? Will we be surprised by the mischievous little gold-chaser? Donloyd now to find out. Schlocktober is finally here and we're spending time with America's favorite family with a Frankenstein patriarch. It's Munster Week. First, the Munsters hit the big screen after leaving TV in "Munster, Go Home!" from 1966. Herman gets weird that an English relative died, so the family heads to the UK to collect. Next, the gang returns in a 1981 Halloween special. In this one, Herman and Grandpa are framed for a crime by evil robot versions of themselves. And Sid Caesar shows up. Finally, it's a total reboot! The Munsters are recast and coming to America! An evil politician wants the Munsters (and all other immigrants deported). It's "Here Come the Munsters." All this plus surfing chat, DVDs, Nerd News, Junk Mails, and in-depth talk about Dom Deluise status and so much more! Direct Donloyd

If you go down in the woods today, you may get a big surprise. You may in fact be surprised that this week's movie exists in the first place. But obscure is the tree from which Junkfood Cinema falls and as Schlocktober continues, Brian and Cargill taking a camping trip with The Final Terror. From the director of The Fugitive comes possibly the most anti-slasher-movie slasher movie of all time. From its sensible characters, killer cast, and satisfyingly shocking ending, The Final Terror is the last thing you'd expect. Also in this episode, rusty trombones, Where's Waldo gets murdered repeatedly, and we probably definitely get sued by The Movie Crypt. Like the show? Consider supporting us on Patreon! For as little as $4/mo, you can get access to all our bonus content, and you ensure we can keep doing Junkfood Cinema long after the end of the world!
