Welcome to the Courage & Doll Podcast, where we talk about everything from movies, TV, and YouTube. Sometimes we get candid, have some critiques, and often times confused. Random podcasts may be thrown in when we’re often confused. Every other week we have movie and tv reviews that we either love or…
"We might not have a Rolex, but we do have pens and a laundry folding invention." Oops. Spoilers. First and foremost, we must apologize for the delayed start of Spirit Month. You're hurt. We're hurt. It's a tragedy that we can chalk up to technical difficulties. Never fear. We did manage to salvage the intro. from the shoulda-coulda-woulda been episode, so that you can have the visual description of our festive fits. This week, we decided to do as the gentleman (and the occasional women) do, and share the coveted essentials that keep the inflatable raft that is C&D Headquarters afloat. Goodbye Summer. Hello Fall. This week, we're letting loose and seamlessly spilling the juice on all things Spirit Month. We're talking Connecticut characters, boppy boy bands, trading places and so much more. No spending. Only closet pieces and DIY-able items allowed. Don't go, boo. Well, are you? Look, feeling resentment of your stepchildren, spouse or in-laws does automatically make you the Billie Eilish Bag Guy™️, but you might be if you abide by Christmas card terms. This week, we took a little dive into the AITA subreddit to answer one question and one question alone. We are back with our sixth installment of the Writers' Room! If there's one thing we can't stand in teen television is the absence or complete lack of parental figures. We're all about independence, but somebody's gotta be paying these bills. This week we picked some mamas, papas, meemaws, and peepaws to keep our Vermontonian youth in line. As per usual, we had to incorporate our signature generators to get the creativity train chugging along. We generated names, occupations, education levels, and general relationships. Stay tuned for ritzy backstories, twins overcoming jealousy, and moms making the bread. We gave our characters fictional parents. Now, it's time we got some of our own. "It is a game piece. It is communal." This week, we watched the final installment of . . . well, you know. We waited all this time just to have Molly Ringwald give the advice that we've been screaming for two movies. "Do what's right for you, bestie." Just a mom to the motherless doing her daily duties. Hello there, Courageous Dollies! (Do you like this? Is this okay?) This week's episode takes us back to the good old days. You know, when we would have a review that started off on track and it would just ever so slowly veer off the rails. Yes, we're back and more spontaneous than ever. We watched "Spontaneous" starring Katherine Langford and Charlie Plummer. It's been awhile since we've seen Katherine on the screen, but she has made her return to playing a ~quirky~ girl who's just trying to graduate without combusting. Literally. We never get an answer as to why the senior class is exploding, but you get a few answers of our least favorite things: words, articles of clothing, and comedy shows that can't get with the times. I know you don't care, but I want to talk about my hyper-specific interest that you know nothing about. This is a phrase that is commonly tossed around in the audio messages, and it's our absolute pleasure to bring to the pod. We want to like him so bad . . . but we don't . . . know him? If you've been following the pod for a while, you might know that we have some pretty unpopular opinions of Shawn Mendes. NEVER HATE. Just . . . strong criticism. We really want to see him step out of the box he's in and take more risks. This brings us to this week's episode. We're kicking off the holiday season with a second installment of our Thanksgiving Jam Sesh series and a fresh, new playlist for the inevitable turkey trauma that is likely to ensue. "She doesn't want LensCrafters when she has Hot Topic." We really thought the viewing experience for this movie would be different, but alas, pandemic safety concerns made us reconsider reuniting for an Anna Todd adaptation-filled afternoon. No private theater viewings for us. Just two $6.99 (plus that gorgeous Tennessee sales tax) digital rentals. This week we had the absolute self-indulgent pleasure of watching the highly-anticipated sequel to the Wattpad delicacy that is "After." That's right, Tessa and Hardin are back in "After We Collided." Ohhhh the toxicity. Who needs to talk about your relationship (Can we call it that?) issues when you have hot yoga, steamy shower sex, and impromptu babysitting calls? Don't clock out . . . we've got unrealistic internship benefits, a blip in continuity, and a petition to delete the word "conquest" in all future fanfic adaptations. What in the Wattpad? I guess we can take the heat because this week we are definitely in the kitchen. We cooked up some love with a new addition to our Mandy Moore series, and things we're . . . interesting? There's late night bites, carbless keto recipes, and the trendiest foods of all time. Stick around because things get pre(tty)-heated with a debate on the restaurant status of Waffle House, hypothetical merch cancellations, and positive presidential news. Fine Dining and Wheezing. “The Vine Star has to go first." Happy Hallovember? We knew this week’s podcast would be uploaded on the first of November, but it was recorded on Halloween. In the a.m. no less. What a concept. In this week's edition of C&D midday, we had to get our final spooky ooky fix of the season with Netflix's The Babysitter. In this campy horror flick, little Cole "Colonoscopy" Johnson, at his undisclosed age, needs a his babysitter Bee to help navigate the world of older bullies, next-door love interests, and, of course, human sacrifice? Just typical parents-are-outta-town scenarios. Thankfully, our screens were graced with several familiar faces: former Disney dancing queen Bella Thorne, ex-Viner King Bach, and an always shirtless Robbie Amell. No need to request for backup. We've got you covered with the blue print for Dakota Johnson's green cabinets, a pre-murderous pep talk, an intergalactic betrayal. It's all about the spirit. What's your Halloween aesthetic? “She’s meeting up with both of the Ds. Delia, and then Duke” How on Earth have we gone FOUR months without posting an update on our future Emmy-nominated series centered around teen pregnancy? P is for procrastination, apparently. Welcome to the second installment of our Writer's Room saga. Last time we introduced youth our main and supporting characters and established how they're connected to one another. This week we wanted to take the time to create a rough timeline of season one with the help of a random setting generator, a list of television tropes, and a 7-page Google Doc. The creative juices were really flowing. Stick around for a new name, defending intellectual property, and pre-planned episode titles. P is for Pregnancy Personalities. We're back with another round of self-induced torture. Netflix said, "Season two of The Society? You can't have it." Spike said, “Season two of The Mist? You can’t have it either.” We LOVE when our spooky ooky mystery series get cancelled after one season. So many questions unanswered, so many plots unexplored. Guess we'll just have to browse the threads. This week we watched the short-lived adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist via Netflix, and it was a ride . . . through Maine in a military-grade Jeep. Bumpy, but not bad? Stay tuned for a talk on Old Navy costume design, outdated gender roles, and another Monty plot line that we just can't escape. We've all got our vices. What's yours? It's all pain and no main . . . plot that is. This week we're back with a review of the highly-anticipated sequel fo The Kissing Booth, starring overly playful "platonic" besties and an impossibly high Dance Dance Mania step accuracy. Elle Evans is navigating her way through her final year at Los Angeles Country Day School while trying to maintain a long distance relationship with her Harvard man. Does she continue to abide by a list of rules that no longer serve her or take the advice of dopey-smiled Noah Centineo lookalike? She's finally forced to make big decisions in love and life after high school, and we had a lot to say about. We endured two hours of montages and poorly fleshed-out subplots so you don't have to. Pull on your dancing shoes, and stick around for a discussion of suspected cheating, clingy marshmallows, and a disservice to the LGBT community's representation in film. "Burritos are not even pretty enough to be in KHLO-C-D." This week we're giving all of our energy to the decidedly low-quality lunches we scarfed down in elementary / middle school. For the most part, we were both lunch box ladies, but Katie's brief introduction to steak fingers made this a necessary point of discussion. Ranking has made a comeback, minus the hideous garage echo of early quarantine and the Jonas™ scale. This time around, we're relying on another iconic set of celebrity siblings to guide us through this cafeteria chaos. Thank you Kardashian-Jenners for being of service. "The herpes and the Abreva meant something to people." This week, we're back with a new addition to our growing fanfic-to book- to screen adaptation review list. Katie's been pushing for a viewing of "The Kissing Booth" for well over a year, and we finally came to the agreement that it fits the brand. Do we have a new C&D Classic on our hands? TBD. With the warmer months slipping away, we felt that a quick trip to the Flynn mansion in Los Angeles was necessary. We've got Joey King living up to the best friend's brother stereotype, Jacob Elordi in desperate need of anger management, and Molly Ringwald as . . . Molly Ringwald? Simmer down and pucker up for a discussion of terribly toxic friendship dynamics, a potential Ivy League admissions scandal, and smooches from too many angles. You already know the drill. We can't believe our penultimate Seamless & Themeless Episode of the year is already upon us. We finally hit triple digits baby! In honor of our 100th episode, we had no choice but to walk the halls of Liberty High School one last time. Thirteen Reasons Why is more than a guilty pleasure show. It's one of the few remaining C&D Classics (Thank You Miss Rona and Miss Netflix). This week we rewatched season 1 to see if our perspectives had changed for the often dramatic, sometimes problematic, live and in stereo queen herself. That's right, Hannah Baker welcome to your episode. We went through each culprit's tape and discussed their reactions to their wrongdoings and gave a final verdict on whether or not they deserved to be a part of Hannah's final collection of cassettes. We sympathize and criticize to form a worst - to ehhh list of the reasons that led Hannah to her demise. Thanks for sticking with us! Which fictional high school do you belong to? This week's episode was inspired by a tapestry. We all know that we have a thing for traipsing in on territory that's well established . . . just like our favorite anarchist teens from the sky. This week we watched the first season of a long-running CW classic "The 100." We broke away from our usual style of T.V. recap & discussion to raise a few unanswered questions. Where are the different accents? Is this intergalactic age-gap relationship predatory? What does it truly mean to "Go float yourself?" Stay tethered and stick around for lonely cheaters, poor line delivery, and girl-obsessed gun boys. Which dystopian universe do you belong in? Who would've thought we'd be releasing episodes with decimals? As promised, we're back with the third and FINAL installment of our Taylor Swift saga. This time around, we hit the highs and lows of Reputation, Lover, and Folklore. Are you ready for it? Stay tuned for a running tally of alcohol-fueled lyrics, women being kings, and a debatably inaccurate rank of all the albums. We sorta kinda maybe broke our own rule for devoting 10 minutes of time to each each album, BUT we hope that you'll stay stay stay for an unexpected part three to our Taylor Swift saga. This week we dove into all the track on TS3 and TS4, better known as Red and 1989. It works out great because if you listened to our last Taylor-centric pod (LINKED BELOW!), you'd know that these are the albums Buzzfeed matched us with. There's strong album openers, stolen scarves, and distant green-eyed aquarians lurking in the track list. Call off your getaway car and stick around for our thoughts on entering a new genre.
