Harrison Homer-Guy (First Black Grand Marshal Houston Pride) -- Stages LGBT plays -- Naughty poetry reading Aaron Coleman Aaron Coleman speaks with Harrison Homer-Guy about his life and two events he has coming up for Black Pride. Guy was born in La Marque, Texas, in 1976. He has two sisters and two brothers, and his young mother's parents adopted and raised Guy and his older sister. “They were incredible parents,” Guy says. “I wouldn't change a thing.” Guy attended La Marque public schools from kindergarten through his senior year. “School, for me, was about creative things. I was involved in numerous performance activities—theater, choir, marching band,” he recalls. He played the trumpet and tuba in the band, and admits that he would love to join Houston's Pride Band. “But I'm so busy as it is.” Guest: Harrison Homer-Guyhttps://www.outsmartmagazine.com/2019/06/pride-houstons-2019-male-grand-marshal-harrison-guy/Deborah Moncrief Bell talks with Michael Greco, associate artistic director, about two plays taking place at Stages Theater. The first is "The Legend of Georgia McBride", Casey is desperate to be the best Elvis impersonator, complete with his flashy sequin jumpsuit. But just like that, his audiences lose interest and his act is replaced by the new drag show in town. With rent overdue and a baby on the way, “The King” takes the plunge and transforms into an all-out queen with the help of his new friends who teach Casey what it's like to walk in someone else's heels. But how will he reveal his newfound love of drag to his wife? With snappy zingers and dance-worthy numbers, this wildly entertaining story challenges our perceptions of identity and classic gender roles with extraordinary humor and depth. The second play is "Drag Wonderettes". You know and love The Marvelous Wonderettes—now it's time for a new twist! Re-imagined as a high drag performance, you'll hear the same 50s and 60s songs like “Stupid Cupid,” “Lollipop,” and “It's My Party,” and get a whole new view of how friendship can be truly marvelous. These queens are bringing a whole new level of fabulous to the stage!Guest: Michael Grecohttps://stageshouston.comFinally we have some naughty poetry. Aaron Coleman and Deborah Moncrief Bell read some selections. Be sure to check out these poems.Guest: Aaron Colemanhttp://www.outsmartmagazine.com/2011/07/return-to-love/

Welcome to the 117th Episode of the Ministry of Dice – the UK based, bi-weekly best in Dice Masters podcast chat. There has been quite a lot going on over the last couple of weeks since we were last recording, so there's a bit of ground to cover in the updates & news kinda thing we do at the start of the podcast. The least of which is reporting that Andy hasn't won a game against Chris since Christmas. There's been preview drafts, online tournaments, and even more Dark Phoenix Saga momentum going on to report on. Then its on to a classic MoD “Pick of The Week”. We take a closer look at the new reveals from the Dark Phoenix Saga draft from the Gaming with Sidekicks crew and give a hot-take pick each from the new cards. This set is looking GOOD, and the new Dark Phoenix Saga spoilers have got us really excited. (Or is Dark Phoenix Saga passé? LOL) To finish up, it is Valentines, so we do a segment for the lovers. Which famous comic book couples are well served by the game of Dice Masters? Or not so famous, because Andy literally had no idea a few of these were an item. Anyway – do they combo in a way that acknowledges their status as a couple, or is their famous love of the ages just blindly ignored? All this… and let's see how many people make a comment about that card before the end of the episode… If you enjoyed the podcast, then we'd love you forever if you could take a minute to go and give us a 5 star rating and maybe a short review. It really helps us get the word out to new listeners and is encouraging to Andy. Show Notes & Other Stuff Interested in the MoDTube videos we mention? SUPPORT THE SHOW AT ko-fi.com/prollyshoulda Be true to yourself. You don't need to be popular to be happy. Power and prestige isn't everything. These are all great messages for a child to see in movies, but in 2001 Garry Marshall directed a hit family comedy that said the opposite of all of those things. Nadia and Tony work through some stuff as they realize that delightful performances from Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are papering over some very unsettling messages. Also Larry Miller plays a caricature of an Italian stylist, so we get back on our bullshit very quickly. Have you ever been in a situation so ridiculous that you started looking around for hidden cameras? Well my guest on this episode, actor Sarah Randall Hunt, had so many over the top horrible first dates (admittedly several of which were her fault), that she turned them into a very sweet rom-com web series called Stupid Cupid. As the co-creator, star and producer of the series, Sarah was forced to relive a lot of bad decision-making on camera. Part therapy and part cautionary tale, this is a show that anyone who’s ever been single can relate to quite well. The first season of Stupid Cupid is available on YouTube here. Also, you can follow Sarah and all of her hilarious adventures on Instagram @sarahrandallhunt. For the video version, click here: https://youtu.be/B9qgXf96Qgc In 1958, Cashbox, Billboard and the Jukebox Operators of America named Connie Francis as the #1 Female Vocalist. She was named Top Female Vocalist by all the trades for six consecutive years – a record never surpassed. As well, England’s prestigious New Musical Express also named her the World’s #1 Female Vocalist. She earned two gold records for Who’s Sorry Now? and Stupid Cupid. On a global scale, Connie Francis was the top-selling female vocalist of the Sixties and, despite the sensational advent of Madonna, the longevity of Diana Ross and the multi-format generations of the 80's and 90's, she remains the most commercially successful female singer of all time with an estimated world-wide sales figure well in excess of two hundred million. Today, Connie Francis is widely involved in some very interesting and diverse projects. Of greatest importance and passion is that of helping returning American Veterans of war. Connie Francis is the national spokeswoman for Mental Health America’s S.T.A.R.Campaign (Stress, Trauma, Awareness and Recovery) an important national campaign to raise awareness of what veterans are facing every day of their lives. Another long-awaited autobiography “Among My Souvenirs, The Real Story” will be officially released 2017. This is a celebration of Connie NOW with a look back.

On Today’s episode of The World In My Eyes we’re talking love – ah yes, L’amour. Everybody needs love and life is so much richer when you have love. And every year, the fourteenth day of February has millions across the world presenting their loved ones with candy, flowers, chocolates and other lovely gifts. In many countries, restaurants and eateries are seen to be filled with couples who are eager to celebrate their relationship and the joy of their togetherness through delicious cuisines. There hardly seems to be a young man or woman who is not keen to make the most of the day. The reason behind all of this is a kindly cleric named Valentine who died more than a thousand years ago. So attention must be paid, that’s right my lovelies, we’re talking about the real history of Valentine’s Day. And, surprisingly, it’s not just a greeting card and candy holiday! Now it is not exactly known why the 14th of February is known as Valentine's Day or if the noble Valentine really had any relation to this day. The history of Valentine's Day is impossible to be obtained from any archive and the veil of centuries gone by has made the origin behind this day even more difficult to trace. But we do have some legends that are our source for the history of Valentine's Day, so take aim at that Stupid Cupid and let’s jump in. The modern St. Valentine's Day celebrations are said to have been derived from both ancient Christian and Roman tradition. As per one legend, the holiday has originated from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalis/Lupercalia, a fertility celebration that used to be observed annually on February 15. But the rise of Christianity in Europe saw many pagan holidays being renamed for and dedicated to the early Christian martyrs. Lupercalia was no exception. In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius turned Lupercalia into a Christian feast day and set its observance a day earlier, on February 14. He proclaimed February 14 to be the feast day in honor of Saint Valentine, a Roman martyr who lived in the 3rd century. It is this St. Valentine whom the modern Valentine's Day honors.
