In their discussion of the struggle with the passions and in particular those associated with the bodily appetites and what we experienced through the senses, the fathers do not neglect to show us the effect that our thoughts and our lack of watchfulness can have upon the unconscious. Certain images and ideas will emerge from our dreams and often take on a form that can be agitating or of a subject matter that is disturbing spiritually. The fathers want us to understand that we are not morally culpable for what arises during the night in our dreams nor can the Evil One directly influence what happens because of our dreams such as nocturnal emissions. Yet, are not to ruminate upon the meaning or the content of these dreams during the day. To do so is to open ourselves “daydreaming”, where we openly allow ourselves to think about images thoughts and ideas that came to mind during the night. Such rumination then can be a source of temptation for us. It is best to set such thoughts aside and focus on fostering temperance and love. As long as we are focused upon God then what arises out of the unconscious will eventually be healed as well. However, if we are slothful or worse prideful we become more subject to the effects of such a dreams or their frequency will become more prominent in our life because of our lack of spiritual discipline. In Hypothesis XXXII, our attention is drawn toward the work of contrition. Saint Gregory tells us that contrition manifest itself in many forms of spiritual beauty. This is striking if only because of the negative connotation that the word contrition sometimes holds. Saint Gregory tells us that ultimately it is a path to beauty, goodness and love. When a soul first seeks after God at the outset it feels contrition out of fear. It is humbled by the depths of its poverty and how contrary this is to that which is good and to our essential dignity. Tears begin to flow and as they do the soul begins to develop a certain courage in the spiritual life and is warmed by a desire for heavenly joy. The soul which shortly before wept from the fear that it might be condemned, eventually weeps bitterly simply because of how far it perceives itself from the kingdom of heaven. As the soul is cleansed, however, it clearly beholds before it what the choirs of angels are and the splendor that belongs to these blessed spirits. Ultimately, the soul begins to behold the vision of God himself. One then weeps for joy as it waits to experience this vision in its fullness. When perfect contrition emerges then the soul's thirst for God is satiated; tears now turning in to the living waters of the kingdom. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:11:02 Lorraine Green: Fr., can you take a Mass request? This week, we cover a relatively early Alfred Hitchcock thriller, Young and Innocent (also known by The Girl was Young. A young man finds himself accused of a crime he didn't commit, and in his efforts to clear his name, he finds an unlikely ally in the constable's daughter. ***SPOILER ALERT*** We do talk about this movie in its entirety, so if you plan on watching it, we suggest you watch it before listening to our takes. Starring Nova Pilbeam, Derrick De Marney, Percey Marmont, John Longden, Edward Rigby, and Mary Clare. Cinematography by Bernard Knowles. Ranking: 30 out of 52. We aggregated over 70 ranked lists from critics, fans, and magazines Young and Innocent got 1,341 ranking points.
In this episode of the Play Therapy Podcast, I answer a question from Mary Clare in Illinois, who is working with a 10-year-old client and feeling unsure if child-centered play therapy (CCPT) is the right approach for him. I address her concerns about the child's resistance, performative play, social challenges, and low self-esteem. I explain how these behaviors align perfectly with what CCPT is designed to address, particularly for children struggling with anxiety and emotional avoidance. I also discuss the healing power of CCPT, emphasizing that “just playing” allows children to self-actualize and work through their issues in ways they might not consciously realize. By continuing to provide the right relationship, environment, tools, and time, Mary Clare is giving her client exactly what he needs to grow. This episode serves as a reminder that CCPT is the right approach for any child under 14, as long as we stay consistent and trust the process. Mary Clare Hallman serves as the Diocesan Secretary for Parish Life in the Diocese of Scranton, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to fostering vibrant parish communities. With a background rooted in both pastoral ministry and organizational leadership, Mary Clare oversees a wide range of initiatives designed to support parish vitality, enhance liturgical and sacramental life, and strengthen ministries within the diocese. excerpt from the Diocese of Scranton website: The Catholic Church dedicates the month of October to the Holy Rosary. This year, this month takes on added significance because parishes in the Diocese of Scranton are participating in a Rosary Crusade, leading up to a large Rosary Rally that will take place on Nov. 16, 2024, at the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Scranton. The Rosary Crusade, which is now underway, will look different in each parish. Some will celebrate Mass or schedule a special Holy Hour for the intention of an increase in family prayer. Others will have parishioners gather more often to recite the rosary – or ask families to sign a pledge card to recite the rosary as a family.... The Rosary Rally planned for Nov. 16 is being held to commemorate the first Rosary Rally held by Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., in the United States seventy-five years ago. That 1949 rally was held in Scranton and brought together 50,000 people. Father Peyton devoted his priestly life to spreading devotion to Mary and encouraging family prayer, especially the rosary. He used radio, television, and film, and 540 Rosary Rallies worldwide to accomplish his mission. Mary Clare Green, wife of Navy Commander Robert Green, joins the podcast today! In our discussion with Mary Clare, we talk about how her family of nine handled the Covid rules, how she supported Rob in his resistance to the mandates, and we hear her thoughts on the environment of freedom in homeschooling communities. Rob attributes his great courage to Mary Clare, who at one point called him a "coward." Rob Green has been one of the most outspoken military officers regarding the military's unconstitutional actions over the past four years. Mary Clare Green was raised in Steubenville, Ohio the fourth of nine children. After graduating from Franciscan University, she married her college sweetheart, Naval Academy grad, Robert Green. Together, they have seven children... one of whom she gave birth to in the car. When the world was first reacting to Covid-19, shutting down NBA games and public schools, Mary Clare took a different approach. She took it upon herself to protect her family by focusing on tried and true principles of health like proper eating, exercise, fresh air, and freedom, rather than the world's regimen of fear and pharmaceuticals. Refusing to ever wear a mask, she trusted in the Lord and boldly stood in the face of mainstream fear. To this day, Mary Clare remains vigilant in the fight for freedom. Hello and welcome to Women Taking the Lead. I'm going to start us off by reading a quote I read not too long ago of my guest today. “As leaders in an increasingly polarized society, it's crucial that we recognize the talent within our organizations. Incredible talents are often overlooked, underutilized, or placed in situations that are bound to fail. The consequence of this is stagnant teams and underperforming businesses because our people feel disconnected. However, it's not the people who are broken; it's our organizational systems that require fixing.” That is a bold statement made by Dr. Mary-Clare Race, the President of Talking Talent. Meet Mary-Clare Race Dr. Mary-Clare Race is recognized for her remarkable career spanning four continents. She has played a pivotal role in facilitating business improvement for globally renowned organizations, including Barclays, Goldman Sachs, GSK, Unilever, Coca-Cola, and Estee Lauder Companies, as well as governmental organizations including the British Government, Cabinet Office, and the UK National Health Service. With this episode we begin our fourth season. Our very first episode of How it Looks from Here went live September of 2020. The pandemic was just getting going. We were being asked to work from home, to keep our distance from each other. A huge cost of this distance was that we wouldn't be hearing how other people were making sense of Covid in their lives. How were people coping? How could we learn from each other with so little face-to-face contact? How did the world look to the people we weren't seeing on the street, at work, in the grocery? Our first season was dedicated to hearing from people across the country and in many different roles about how they were navigating life in the time of Covid.By September of 2021, we began extending our focus, keeping an eye on the pandemic, and looking to see what more we could learn from each other for living well in the time of climate change. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to speak with poets and dancers, with wildfire experts, ranchers and reproductive health advocates from all walks of life. The archives are live and worth diving into to learn from this wide range of perspectives. That brings us to today - to launch this fourth season. In this episode, I speak with Gary Ferguson, a highly acclaimed nature writer, co-creator of Full Ecology, and my life partner. Only recently have we realized that, in January of 2024, we'll have been developing and learning from Full Ecology for 10 years. It only seemed right to begin this season with a conversation on what Full Ecology has taught us - and what it continues to teach.Gary is the author of 27 books in which he renders science in story. In this podcast, we revisit the origins of Full Ecology and make our way to speaking about the impact Full Ecology has had on Gary's work as a writer and mine supporting organizations committed to healthy work culture. To learn more about Full Ecology visit the Full Ecology website. Drop us a line at connect@fullecology.com and we'll get your name on the list for the monthly newsletter. DescriptionThere may have been an era in the history of the Church when Catholic teachers and preachers didn't need to share anything really at all from their own lives in their talks. This is not that era. With all of the Church's teachings available free of charge on that smart phone in your pocket, knowledge and information isn't where we are lacking. But there is one thing that I can't access on the internet - your story, your experience, and your struggles to live as a disciple of Jesus. In my conversation today with Matt Regitz we went deep into the how and why of this paradigm, the irreplaceable importance of vulnerability - of presenting not just Catholic truths in your talks, but granting brave access to how you are actually bringing those truths to every aspect of your life. After graduating from Texas A&M and pursuing an oilfield sales career Matt Regitz took a leap of faith and became the youth minster at his parish in Houston, Texas. The mission has grown to include parishes around the world as he serves as a global leadership coach with Divine Renovation Ministries. Matt and bride, Stephanie, started Survive and Thrive Ministries to share their story of healing and hope with other families. The rest of the Regitz clan, including their four kids at home and a daughter in heaven, Mary Clare, love soccer games, barbeques, minivan road trips, and the communal life. DAY FOUR of the 2023 Nevada Desert Experience Sacred Peace Walk – Why Do We Walk? For the fourth day of our walk towards tMercury -- the entrance to the Nevada Nuclear Test Site -- would cover the miles we skipped the day before when we escaped the brutal desert wind and snow. After the morning bonfire gathering, the Peace Walkers were driven back to Lee Canyon for a walk back to the Sekhmet Goddess Temple. We passed a couple of maximum security prisons and the Creech Air Force Base. The next day -- Wednesday -- the Peace Walkers would return to the U. S. military drone base to block the entrance and get arrested. Tuesday we walked -- 17 miles. At the end of the day we gathered in Mary Clare's living room and as she served up cookies and coffee we talked about the human relationship with the Atom Bomb. The soul is fine, it's the human that is suffering. With her first spiritual experience as a young girl, Mary Clare knew she was a little different. While there was support from her “hippie' family, general society was not so embracing. To cope with expectations she built an outward personality to fit in. Eventually this masking led to self-destructive behaviors. An official diagnosis of bipolar-disorder, as well as the anchors of faith and yoga were critical to her evolution. In 2010 she opened Lotus House of Yoga in Omaha, NE where she shares these gifts and tools with others so they, too, can work their way to a full and joy filled life. This is an incredibly powerful and empowering conversation. In this episode, we have a conversation with YouTuber Mary Clare Kunkel, whose channel “Faith Evolving” (not to be confused with the Evolving Faith Conference!) has A+ content for Christians seeking faith in their evolving contexts. Mary Clare talks about her ecumenical faith background in the United Methodist, Catholic, and Lutheran churches, and what she's learned about spirituality through them (she also touches on the few times she's had brushes with evangelical culture), and how she came to terms with her queerness. We nerd out about the Bible, talk about how faith is found in the asking of questions, not in the certainty of answers, and we discuss how Tumblr actually introduced all of us to a lot of things re: gender, sexuality, and social justice! Mary Clare also shares about her seminary experience, particularly from her perspective as someone who doesn't feel called to ordained/pastor ministry. You can find Mary Clare on her YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/FaithEvolving and her merch here: https://www.bonfire.com/store/faith-evolving-store/. Sounds like a great coupla of weeks. There is a varied mix of celebratory and solemn events coming up, for sure, each deserving of our attention. So, make plan, if you can. AND remember: Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened! No Regerts! This morning, we buried my sister Noreen. To our listeners, thank you for all if the hugs, well wishes, shared stories and friendship. At her passing, she was surrounded by all of her kids, grandkids, siblings and our parents. She said several times as we all prayed together, that she was at peace, and I believe that she is. We each told of what will always remind her of us, of how we know she is near when we see it, and she smiled as best she could. She could hear our conversation, tho her oxygen assisted breath was labored. “I am fine, I am fine” she said. We cannot do justice to her heart, her fight, her grace, her faith, her smile, her active support of so many, and her deep love for God. This is Noreen's Alliteration I see you in the water, when you wouldn't let me drown I see you in the in the music, as opposed to watching The Crown I see you on the ice, and a fistfight with the male bully I got your glasses safe; the lessons I absorbed, fully I see you singing at Erieview High, in Annie Get Your Gun impressions I see you in your young Annie, the motions and facial expressions I hear you in my head, with gentle little nudges Cape Cod –trying to teach me to smile, we wept over the judges The green crash and Roger Fallon, the IA at West 93rd Camogie, The Jerk, the front porch, the sounds I never heard At times we had like-minded magic, at times we had Dairy Queen And of course, we had St. Patrick's Day, laughing over everything, so obnoxiously green The stories of Mike, the depths of love, the hope running ever eternal Watching you raise your kids, trying not to laugh, while eyes seemed fire infernal Instilling the love, of God & country, and the one across the pond The door always open; the kettle always boiling, of this we are inordinately fond I see you in the church, and the bishop embracing The love of God rising by day, so many trials head on facing I see you Irish dancing, and thinking, Hell NO Why did you have to leave us, with so many joys still to go? I bid you farewell; watch over your kids and theirs too There's nothing stronger than a mother's love, for what else can a mother do? Tho you fret, though you worried, you will always be adored Rest in peace, Dear Noni, in the gentle arms of our Lord *** Noreen's obituary reads: Noreen O'Brien Beardmore April 28, 1961 - June 13, 2021 Noreen Theresa (O'Brien) Beardmore passed away on Sunday, June 13 at home, surrounded by her family. Her last hours were filled with faith, praying rosaries with friends the night before her passing and with her family the morning of. Noreen fought a vigorous battle with cancer and her family considers the battle won as her whole life is a miracle. Noreen was born in Montreal, Canada to Irish immigrant parents on April 28, 1961 and was the oldest of four children. As a devout Catholic family, the O'Brien's never missed Mass. When they moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1963, their home melded the best of Irish-American culture, including a beloved Irish festival that the whole family participated in running. Noreen graduated from the all-girls Catholic high school St. Joseph's Academy in Cleveland, Ohio in 1979 and was class president. Cleveland served as the highly social platform for her upbringing as she attended dances, organized fundraisers, and navigated the city working various jobs to earn money for school. Noreen attended Duquesne University to study nursing. While at Duquesne, she was awarded the Heinz scholarship for women in global leadership which allowed her to travel to many different countries. When asked during the interview process about which quality defined her most, she said, "I am, above all things, a Catholic." Noreen was truly a very devout woman. She hungered to know the teachings of the faith and to love Jesus more and more. She spent time volunteering at St. Boniface Parish, the Lafayette Catholic Schools System, and to personal prayer and growth in faith. As a nurse, Noreen was the first person in Ohio to be accepted by the Amish community to give immunizations. She was tender with patients and loved her career as pediatric nurse. It is how she met her husband, pediatrician Mike Beardmore. Noreen married Mike in 1990 and they moved to Lafayette, Indiana. Their marriage was one of deep love, hard work, and beautifully shared values. Together they raised 8 children and sent them all through Catholic schools. Noreen and Mike built a family that was centered on humor, music, quality time, and faith. They too ensured that Mass was never missed, and family dinner was central to their lives together. Noreen served as a member of the Governance Board of the Catholic Schools and started a Catholic moms group called "What Would Mary Do?" Unofficially, she was known for seeking out new moms in the parking lot or recognizing when young moms were having a tough time. Noreen loved to connect people with new friends or opportunities that used their gifts. Later in life she worked as the Health & Safety coordinator for the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana. When Noreen was diagnosed with cancer, the family committed fervently to family rosaries and she brought many others into the fold. A weekly zoom rosary was started for friends from around the country and in Ireland to pray together for healing. These friends say it was an inspiring group to be part of, par for the course for a friendship with Noreen. Recently Noreen was given the "He Leads, I Follow" Award from St. Boniface Principal Sr. Lenore and former pastor Fr. Tim Alkire. Noreen was presented a statue of Blessed Mother Maria Theresia Bonzel for the goodness and humanity she has shown to so many people. Noreen wasn't perfect. She wasn't good at cooking eggs until her later years. She frequently told her children that she couldn't hear herself think. And she kept far too many Martha Stewart magazines with very little intention of ever reading them again. But those closest to her say that she always knew the right thing to say. She was everyone's shoulder to cry on. And her children would have rathered had a short amount of time with her as a mother than a lifetime with any other. There was always room at the table with Noreen and her magazine-worthy garden doesn't compare to the blooms of friendships she cultivated and kept around the world. Her family is certain that she will work even harder from Heaven for her friends and family and encouraged everyone to reach out in prayer to Noreen throughout their lives. Noreen is survived by her loving husband, Mike and her eight children: Caitie, Tommy (fiancé Natasha), Brian, John & Casey, Will, Michael, Annie & Caroline. She has two grandchildren: Henry & Peter. She is also survived by her parents; John & Eileen O'Brien of Cleveland, her sisters Cathy (John Lang)of Cincinnati and Patricia (Philip Parente) and brother, John, Jr. of Cleveland. She has 11 nieces and nephews who have always meant so much to her. Proceeding her in death is her infant daughter, Mary Clare, who the family knows greeted her excitedly in Heaven. Although Noreen loved flowers, what would mean most to her would be the Catholic education of more children. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Lafayette Catholic School System. *** I need time. I can't look back, over the pain. How does life go on, when death quakes our earth? It's easy to feel overwhelmed in the face of global climate breakdown. So how might we develop the inner resolve to confront it? Full Ecology, a collaboration between social-cultural psychologist Mary Clare and longtime science writer Gary Ferguson, suggests a path forward. Breaking the modern impulse to see humans as separate from nature, Clare and Ferguson encourage us to learn from the “supremely methodical and highly improvisational” natural systems that touch our lives. True change, they argue, begins with us stopping and questioning assumptions about our place in the world.

"It doesn't matter how much time has passed." This was the conclusion that Mary Clare Kellett reached after finding herself in the role of Washington State Grassroots Leader for 2020 Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg. Despite her long career pause, Mary Clare definitely still knew how to build teams and get things done! In this interview, Mary Clare shares how she landed this role - without any political campaign experience - and where she went from there. With the pandemic just beginning, her marriage ending, and facing some health issues, Mary Clare took the opposite route of a lot of people looking for a job. In fact, she didn't even look. Tune in to hear what she did instead - and how the perfect job found her.
A conversation with Dr. Mary Claire and Gary Ferguson authors of the book Full Ecology. Their book is about the connection between nature and humans. https://www.fullecology.com
Mary Clare Rodwell is the current High Sheriff of Somerset. After living in Somerset for nearly 30 years, her longstanding contribution to the community here resulted in being selected for the role, which dates back to at least the 11th century. However, days after she was officially appointed by the Queen, the country was put into lockdown, meaning that her time as Sheriff has been a truly unique opportunity to look at how the county has responded and adapted to the challenges of 2020. We met a few days before Christmas to reflect on a huge variety of topics, from the history of the area, to mental health in Somerset.
In this episode, Mary Clare speaks with healer, activist, and artist Sara Mapelli about her life in Oregon and her work with bees. Through it all, Sara maintains her wellbeing in unique ways. As parents face a second wave of large scale lockdowns and school closures, it's more important than ever to follow the facts. Teachers unions are pushing for public schools to close, private schools are fighting to stay open, and parents are growing increasingly frustrated with politicians who don't seem to prioritize education. When this is all over, will the public school system be able to regain the trust of American families? Inez Stepman, senior policy analyst at the Independent Women's Forum and contributor to The Federalist, joins Mary Clare today to discuss this unique moment in American education. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Americans are working through what the 2020 election will mean for the future of our country. But education, thankfully, is primarily a state and local issue. What impact will state policy have on the future of school choice? Mary Clare sits down the Jason Bedrick of EdChoice to discuss. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Identity politics and "woke culture" have taken over our schools. How did this start? Where is it going? And what can we do to stop this? Mary Clare is joined by The Manhattan Institute's Max Eden and The Heritage Foundation's Mike Gonzalez to discuss these tough issues. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Let's talk about real solutions. What can be done to fix our broken education system and offer real options to American families? On this episode Mary Clare is joined by Congressman Ted Budd (NC-13) to discuss the Republican Study Committee's new report, "Reclaiming the American Dream: Proposals to Empower the Workers of Today and Tomorrow." Then Mary Clare talks to The Heritage Foundation's Jonathan Butcher about the issue of disparate impact in our schools. Jonathan poses an important question: should public policy be based on political narratives or facts? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Natalia defines faithfulness and how she lives it out as a missionary, wife, and mother. Fr. Anthony also gives practical examples of living a faith-filled life for Jesus. They discuss the idea of how to love Jesus more than others and how the vows of ordination/marriage deepen their faith. The Lord calls each of us, in a unique way, to a specific vocation. It is through that vocation that we learn, deepen and grow in faithfulness. Shout-outs: 02:09 Tony Federico, Fr. Every so often we get to interview people who are our heroes, who make us feel like fangirls and fanboys, and for me that person was Mary Clare Fischer, who is the wellness editor of Philly Mag and the editor of Be Well Philly. Be Well Philly is one of my favorite ways that I have been able to navigate the wellness scene in the Philly area. Receiving their magazine felt like I was getting in on all the secret tips, spots, and news. I found my workout classes, wellness community, and many healthy restaurants through Be Well Philly, not to mention that they named us a top podcast for wellness (holla!). As you can imagine, it’s no surprise that we welcomed Mary Clare with open arms when we were approached about having her on the podcast. Mary Clare Fischer is a: health and wellness editor at Philly mag, the regional magazine in the Philadelphia area University of Maryland alumna with degrees in journalism, government, and politics Michigan native with a penchant for college football, vacations “up north” pescatarian, cookbook collector, book lover, occasional runner, human rights advocate, wide-eyed learner, overall nerd, and frequent abuser of caps lock But most of all, she is a writer. I pushed passed the fear and then enlisted my own advice, which is detailed out in Goal Magic’s Getting Unstuck Program, and I can tell you honestly and with complete sincerity that this stuff works, folks! I now have 3 signed contracts and more inquiries about my work than I can manage in any given day. In this episode, I welcome back once again Matt Whipkey. Matt is releasing a new record called "Underwater" and stops by to share some tunes. We talk about putting records out on vinyl, songwriting, and his legendary hair. Matt Whipkey online Whipkey on facebook Opening song: "You Are Strong" by Ryleigh Welsh Bio tetx: Very real people live at the heart of Matt Whipkey’s new LP, “Underwater”. Unlike 2013’s historical fiction character study, “Penny Park…” Whipkey turns his songwriter’s eye onto individuals in his own life. While this exploration of lost love, friendship, death and indulgence is personal in nature, its meditation on emotional struggle is definitively universal. Throughout "Underwater”, Whipkey realizes we all have a Maryclare, Hunter B. , Gary Flanagan, Kathleen and Sam in our own story. They live with us, guide us, challenge us, elate us and let us down. They occupy our daily lives, memories and dreams. Matt Whipkey invites you to not only meet these men and women of his world, but to let them mirror the many who shape yours. Over the past three years, few songwriters rival Whipkey’s creative output. On the heels of the rock and roll collection “Two Truths” and the award winning double LP, “Penny Park: Omaha, NE: Summer 1989”, Whipkey releases, "Underwater”, his third full length in as many years. For Whipkey, each release informs and challenges the next. Benefiting from this self imposed game of musical one-upsmanship, “Underwater” presents his strongest set to date. Quotes: Keep the lazy i one and strike the other two, Add this one from Rock NYC Matt Whipkey is the future of rock and roll. He is a storyteller and a song spinner, his songs winking at the mythic. He has an intellectual intelligence about him, a sense of the tick tock of a thinker. Matt Whipkey is Omaha’s best export since Conor Oberst.
