This film was done so beautifully for such a hard subject matter to discuss. Play Date was a film that I am glad I got to watch for HollyShorts, but so glad I was able to interview Amberlee Colson and Laura Campbell to dive deeper into the film. According to their website (playdate-film.com), the short film is about two estranged mothers reunite to make sense of their daughter's last play date. I hope that you can check it out sometime and I hope this film reaches so many people. “Play Date is an attempt to comprehend not only the depth of loss incurred by the parents of school shooting victims, but also the mental contortions the rest of us have to perform in order to keep living in a world where a day at school or a night at the movies can mean the end of the world as we know it.” - Gavin Broady Writer's Statement Sazerac Dream Cocktail: Ingredients Absinthe, to rinse 1 sugar cube 1/2 teaspoon cold water 4 dashes Peychaud's bitters 2 1/2 ounces rye whiskey Garnish: lemon peel Directions Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe, discarding any excess, and set aside. In a mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube, water and the Peychaud's bitters. Add the rye whiskey, fill the mixing glass with ice and stir 15–20 seconds, until well-chilled. Strain into the prepared glass. Twist the lemon peel over the drink's surface to express the peel's oils, then garnish with the peel. Tetris Cocktail (adultbar.com.au): Ingredients 30ml of Curaçao Red Senior Co 30ml of Curaçao Green Senior Co 30ml of Curaçao Blue Senior Co 150ml of Lemon Soda Directions (served room temperature) Add water into glass. Use three shot glasses. Place each curaçao into shot glasses. Pour the lemon soda into short glass. Drink each curaçao at a time with the soda. Beguiling. Grilled Cheese Martini (thrillest.com): Ingredients 4 cups vodka 2 cups tomato juice 1 bunch basil, removed from stems 1 handful orange cherry tomatoes 6 slices white bread 6 slice cheddar cheese Balsamic glaze 3 slices prosciutto Ice Coffee filters Directions On a griddle, butter one side of 6 pieces of toast and place them butter-side down. Allow them to crisp up, but not fully brown, and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each un-buttered side of toast. Allow cheese to melt slightly and flip sandwiches together to make 3 separate grilled cheese sandwiches. Continue to flip the sandwiches until they form a nice golden crust. Slice each sandwich in quarters and stuff into a mason jar. Fill the mason jar entirely with vodka. Allow grilled cheese and vodka to infuse overnight. Fill an ice cube tray with tomato juice and stick into the the freezer overnight. Strain out the vodka by placing 2 coffee filters into a strainer. Pour the vodka through carefully, assuring the filters are straining out any lipids. You can also fish out the sandwiches and squeeze the liquid soaked up by the bread. Set vodka aside. On a griddle, crisp up the prosciutto and break into small bits and place on a small plate. On another plate, pour a layer of balsamic glaze. Rim your glass first with the balsamic glaze and then with the prosciutto bits. Set aside. In a shaker, muddle the basil and cherry tomatoes. Pour in 4 oz of the vodka and ice and shake vigorously. Strain and pour the drink into the glass over a single tomato ice cube. Top with two mini grilled cheeses on a skewer and serve. Entrepreneur. Whole person and Mum of 2. Consultant. Side-gigger. Love the way Laura Campbell described herself for this episode. She's this an a whole lot more! I had the pleasure of meeting Laura through Mums and Co., and I have been truly inspired by her remarkable journey. Based on the Gold Coast with her family, Laura has designed a groundbreaking baby carrier called the HipSurfer Hip Seat. This innovative product, the first of its kind in Australia, is aimed at alleviating the challenges of parenthood. Inspired by her own experiences managing symptoms of arthritis and carpal tunnel while raising her children in the Australian climate, Laura embarked on a journey to create a solution. After eight prototypes, she successfully launched this amazing product just a few months ago. I personally own one, and let me tell you, it's a GAME CHANGER! The HipSurfer Hip Seat has garnered recognition from various media outlets, including Nine News, Seven News, ABC Radio, Kidspot, and Honey. As a passionate advocate for women and mothers in business, Laura is also a business growth consultant and mentor. Her dedication to championing the success of fellow women entrepreneurs is truly commendable, and I feel honoured to be part of her journey. In this episode, we dive into what it's like to invent a product and navigate the challenges of being a mother, an entrepreneur, and a woman. Join us as Laura shares her insights, experiences, and the valuable lessons she has learned along the way. So, sit back, relax, and let's dive into this inspiring conversation.

Laura has worked with some of the worlds' largest companies in a creative manner, and after moving back to Australia with her young family, she realised there was a massive gap in the market for a strap free and stylish hip-style seat for our kids. We chat about Laura's invention, but more than that, we talk about the working mama juggle. The good bits, the tricky bits, and the ones that make you thankful that you have a supportive partner to lean on too. This podcast had be shopifying from the first cha-ching! Laura Campbell joins me today to chat all things switching her sitch from a corporate creative to creating an e-commerce product, Hackerlily and launching online. Laura and I were introduced through the Mums & Co. Community as 2 business owners solving potentially hazardous problems in the child safety space (her with Hackerlily and myself with Buckle Bandage). Laura and I share the journey of creating a product from scratch, with no previous product design or manufacturing experience. We chew the logistics on what can right and what can go wrong with materials and supply. We also discuss the beauty of having no commercial rental space and launching purely online. Both Laura and I have completely bootstrapped our products ourselves with no external funding and not having to mortgage our family homes! This is a must listen for anyone who is thinking of, or is in the midst of growing an e-commerce business. This is especially important for those who want to self fund and minimise financial risk.

Award winning actress and playwright Laura Campbell drops by the green room to discuss her plays Eminent Domain and Worms, and her most current stage role as Tracy in Sweat at the Omaha Community Playhouse.
I’m so happy to introduce you to Laura Campbell this week. I wanted to have her on the podcast not so much because of the work she does (although that is incredible too!) but because of who Laura is in her life and the way she shows up in the world. I think she is an inspiration. It’s not just the steps she has taken, but also the way she goes all in. Laura shares with us her journey from a marriage that was a good relationship but wasn’t the relationship she knew was meant for her. She talks about the moment she knew it was time to leave and so lovingly reminds us that knowing a truth and then taking action on it doesn’t all have to happen at the same time. Change and waking up to your soul’s voice can happen incrementally. She describes her inner knowing so well and I hope it helps you to turn inward and connect with your own inner knowing. We also talk about her recent move across the country and the reimagining of herself once again. “You can trust yourself because you are trustworthy.” ~ Laura Campbell It can be so hard to say yes to that next chapter and a new beginning. But remember that you can trust yourself because you are trustworthy. I hope this conversation and her story gives you the courage to take that next first step for yourself. I’d love to hear what you think of this conversation. Be sure to comment below or connect with me on Instagram to tell me all about it. Guest pastor Rev. Laura Campbell preaches on Ephesians 2:10. Rev. Campbell served at Clear Lake UMC from 2014-2016 in many roles but lastly as associate pastor. She currently serves at Lufkin UMC but will soon be taking voluntary leave to "explore the gripping need of the church to engage the world around them through 'fresh expressions.'" Campbell also serves as executive director helping to launch the non-profit Light for the Zulu nation. "The rich foundation and in-pouring of Clear Lake continued to take rampant growth within me and the ministry trusted to me in East Texas. While I have changed significantly since my time at Clear Lake UMC, I think one of the greatest and most recent influences is that I’m a foster mom for the second time and can testify to Gods undeniable grace and growth in me through these incredible baby girls! Remember in the 90s when electronic music was poised to take over the world? Groups like Portishead, Chemical Brothers, and Olive were doing something so innovative it seemed techno and trip-hop would become the new norm. Well, it didn't really work out that way. Among some of these innovative artists was a duo from Liverpool called Mulu made up of producer Alan Edmunds and singer Laura Campbell. The two only released one album called Smiles Like a Shark in 1997 that featured excellent singles like "Desire," "Filmstar," and one of the greatest singles of the 90s, "Pussycat." Unfortunately, they never got a chance to release that second album. Today they lead pretty normal lives, but occasionally pursue their musical urges, thankfully. This conversation is fun because we start out trying to tell the Mulu story, but mostly end up talking about our favorite music and the many artists they met during their time in the game. We hope you discover some new songs to make you happy and check out the link below to go deeper. https://soundcloud.com/mulu-uk-official?fbclid=IwAR3TTWu04TrdkenjuG-n6-xUKxPetFhfIw86Xzh7NuASUHqtUtDIZrmt1Ak
